  1. Buddy Nix would need to smoke that much crack to take Hill at the 10 spot Seriously, the guy is a project mostly because he doesn't know the complete route tree. The kid can block so he would be a plus for a running team that wants to develop him If Hill had been in a top passing offense and put up good numbers he would be a top ten pick. Some team will still take the guy in the mid to late first round simply because his numbers are so good. 6'4'' 4.3 40
  2. I think you guys are way off base on this one. Matt Kalil is an instant starter and upgrade over most of the LT's in the league. Riley Reiff played at Iowa..."One of the things about Iowa football is that the players who come here are well-coached," Crennel said. "They're technique-sound, they play hard, try hard, they're competitive, and we know that. Last year there were a few more defensive guys coming out, this year a few more offensive guys are coming out. We know that you're going to get fundamentally-sound guys who are very competitive and who give you a good day's work." - The Sports Xchange The guy wouldn't be ranked in the top 10-15 if scouts didn't think he was a starter. My take is he would be an upgrade over Hairston. Jonathan Martin played LT at Standford, on a very potent pro style offense. Martin turned down the opportunity to be the first fourth-generation African-American Harvard student in history to become a scholar-athlete at Stanford. So for the last three years his parents, both Harvard grads, watched him do something he only could have done at Stanford -- protect the blind side of quarterback Andrew Luck. And there is still a chance he will attend Harvard some day, to get a legal degree. This guys draft stock is falling a bit because of missing the combine due to an illness and a poor pro day showing. Now he has stated he will pass on attending the NFL draft. This kid can do anything he wants in life. If he chooses to play LT in the NFL, I just don't see him failing at that. His size and nasty streak are two things that have many intrigued and should help him come off the board in the top 15-20 picks. http://www.cbssports...jonathan-martin http://nwe.scout.com/2/1167574.html
  3. I just don't get the dislike for Martin, he was a solid LT on a very potent offense. If anything he was only a tad weak against speed rushers. I highly doubt he makes it out of the mid first round, just not the 10th pick. Good OT's are almost as sought after as QB's I have G David DeCastro rated ahead of Glenn, and only slightly behind OT Reiff. Glenn looks more like a RT then a LT particularly if he can't get that 345 weight down, he won't be able to handle speed rushers in the NFL on that left side. So it looks like Reiff to me, unless Nix grows a pair and moves up to take Kalil....which is what I'm holding out hope for
  4. The ONLY guy I look at in this entire draft and see a future HoFer and can't miss player is Matt kalil, mostly due to his bloodlines, genetics. Money isn't going to be an issue, something that has happened to many young men once they get that fat contract, either are off the field problems. NFL scouts believe he is as close to perfect as they can expect and one of the most complete offensive tackles to come out of college since USC's Tony Boselli, who was the second player selected in the 1995 draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Not a relative, but a highly-regarded alumn. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1631888
  5. No he isn't, You honestly think Manning is that stupid to jeopardize his future away from football to play a few more years. If you watched the NFL network they had a doctor on that has performed hundreds of those neck surgeries over his 25 year career and stated That Manning's neck won't be any more susceptible to further injury then any other NFL player. Also, according to the Bronco's WR's Manning's arm strength is 100%. Like I said, Irsay was a fool to let Manning walk as the man was the face of his Colt franchise. Yea they swapped first rounders, 2 extra #1's in 2013, 2014 and an extra #2 pick this year He is a chip off the old block, his father Robert was the biggest !@#$ owner in the league. He gave his QB Bert Jones a house as a bonus when he signed with the Colts. But Bert didn't read the fine print because when he left the team Irsay took the house back, needless to say Jones was stunned he lost his home. This was one of the reasons John Elway refused to play for the Colts. I kinda feel bad for Andrew Luck as he doesn't have Bill Polian to build the team around him. At this point I'm kinda surprised Jim Irsay hasn't made himself the GM like Cowboys owner Jerry Jones
  6. Teams get desperate this time of the year for what they perceive to be the "franchise" QB they have been looking for, they literally talk themselves into it. Mike Mayock states the guy isn't an immediate starter and will need time to develop, like a year. On another note, Jim Irsay is such a tool IMO. The man had Peyton Manning, and let him walk. If the Rams can get 3 #1's for RG3, I gotta wonder what the Colts could have gotten for the #1 overall? Keep Manning and rebuild the team almost instantly. Instead of that #1 in 2014 get extra #2, #3 this year and next. Draft Kalil and solidify that LT spot for the next ten years.
  7. You are welcome Kalil has the bloodlines to be not only a great LT, but a future HoFer. To all the Floyd lovers out there, has he made a visit to the Buffalo Bills? If not I kinda doubt the Bills have interest.
  8. Charles Romes and Mario Clark, the Bills were one of the best pass defense teams in the NFL....too bad they were one of the worst against the run
  9. To give some insight on this LT, here is what scout.com thinks: Based on family history, Matt Kalil was destined to be an outstanding physical specimen. His father was a pro football player, his brother is a starter in the NFL and his mother was Miss California. Now pro scouts say he soon may be regarded as the best in the family, not counting mom of course, although Matt was recognized by Playboy Magazine himself - as a 2011 Preseason All American. "Genetics are obviously a huge part," acknowledged Pittsburgh Steelers General Manager Kevin Colbert, who considered Kalil's situation similar to that of the NFL's famous Mathews family, which begat current Green Bay Packers linebacker, Clay, and tracks back three generations to grandfather Clay (49ers in 1950s) and includes uncle Bruce (Houston Oilers/Tennessee Titans 1983-2001; Pro Football Hall of Fame). Matt's father, Frank, was drafted by the Buffalo Bills and played for the USFL's Arizona Wranglers and Houston Gamblers. Matt's older brother Ryan was a star center at USC (2003-2006) and after being drafted in the second round by the Carolina Panthers has become one of the best centers in the NFL. Vikings General Manager Rick Spielman says Kalil is not only the best tackle the draft, but he has a nasty temperament to go with his physical abilities that could make him one of the best in the NFL and, oh yes, possible best in the family. Matt credits his father for instilling him with work ethic and technique to enhance his bloodlines. "Hours on end of going to the park and working on technique," Kalil said when asked what he remembered about getting help from his father. "Watching film in high school and coming home on weekends during college and going over film with my dad. That's what he taught us, there's always something you can improve. You strive for perfection, but you never get there." NFL scouts believe he is as close to perfect as they can expect and one of the most complete offensive tackles to come out of college since USC's Tony Boselli, who was the second player selected in the 1995 draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Not a relative, but a highly-regarded alumn. http://www.cbssports...players/1631888 From everything I've read, if teams weren't so desperate for QB's, Kalil would be the #1 overall. So yea, I'd say he is worth moving up for! The problem is, since the Vikings saw the Redskins give up 3 #1's for that #2 spot to get RG3, they might want the farm for that #3 spot. Now, should the Dolphins trade up with the Vikes to get Tannehill and the Browns already having a top LT , things could come down to a trade with Tampa Bay for the #5 spot, which might actually work with a #1 at 10 and #2 at 41. Then the problem arises that every other team in the NFL already knows how good Kalil is and if they need a LT they will also be trying to trade up. Like the Vikings who covet him
  10. Yea man:thumbsup: Kalil is easily good enough to be the #3 overall pick in the draft.
  11. we agree at last The Bills still need to upgrade that O line or nothing changes for this up coming year, even if everyone healthy Fitz doesn't always have time to throw the deep passing plays. Its why Chan Gailey setup that short quick passing game. That game plan was merely a band aid as are some of the current starters on that O line. Players that were picked up off the waiver wire and are not really top talent at their positions. These players will show their deficiencies once Gailey starts opening up the play book for more 5-7 step drop back passes. I hope the Bills draft OT-G-WR-TE this year, it seem unlikely. But again, all I can do is hope the Bills go mostly offense this draft as Fitz needs better protection and more then one good WR.
  12. Look at the teams the poor guy has had to deal with thru out his career. Even this regime has tried building the line with waiver wire players so far. The only real top talent on the line were drafted by Jauron, and too little, too late I might add. Think about what the guy could do with a line that has better talent, one that can stay healthy. Plus a top WR that doesn't drop a lot of balls, or a TE that can stay healthy all year. P.S. should the Bills finally add some top talent to the O line in a new OT, then try and open up the playbook for deeper passes they will see that 2 other positions also need upgrading on that line. Plus real depth at center in case Wood goes on IR for the 3rd straight year. This team will never win with band aids.
  13. Selective memory is fun. WTH good is a deep speed WR if the QB doesn't have the time in the pocket to get him the ball? A wasted draft pick that's what! Last years team really went into the crapper when center Eric Wood went down in that Jets game week 9. Dem Bell was also injured most of last year and had only 6 starts. Between a rookie at LT and the bills struggling to find a fill in for Wood, last years O line was a fiasco. Fans see that the line gave up very few sacks so they think the line is fine.... It is far from fine! Fitz can get rid of the ball in 1.5 seconds and has great escape ability, along with a short passing game is why the line gave up so few sacks. Priority one should be building up that O line so the QB has time to throw all the plays in the play book, and not just the short routes. OT & G Do the Bills need better LB'ers.. You Bet! Do the Bills need a better #2 WR...You Bet! But not as badly as they need to add talent, and depth to the O line
  14. Believe it or not there are LT's out there that actually play a full 16 games, and not play half a season or end up on IR. I hope the Bills finally find one.
  15. I never said Ryan was better at anything. Perhaps you need to stop reading between the lines and read the actual lines ....seriously!
  16. I wouldn't call splitting games with them last year as them being "light years" ahead. Injuries killed the 2011 season for the Bills, and lack of depth. The Patriots defense was actually worse then the Bills. The areas that the Patriots excel at are QB Tom Brady, tight ends, WR in Wes Welker and O line. The Bills could go a long way to helping themselves by drafting a top LT, WR, TE, OLB. Plus free agency isn't over, the plug in of a few good players on offense by the Bills could change the entire shape of the AFC East. The Bills need to protect Fitz better, stay healthy, and add talent / depth to that O line would be my primary concern. Problems at OT, G, and center if Wood can't last a season. The mere fact that when Stevie Johnson was benched and Fitz found unknown WR Derek Hagan 7 times for 89 yards in that last game against the Patriots shows me that Fitz doesn't necessary need a super star WR to get the job done. Tight end is also a concern if Scott Chandler can't stay healthy. It took 3 years to finally get a top pass rush. I hope this year the Bills will also address the O line.
  17. Ok you have got to be the most dense poster I've met on this board... I NEVER SAID FITZ WAS BETTER THEN RYAN, for the last time! Good lord, I said I perfer him as QB of the Bills. The mere fact that after all these posts and you still don't understand this concept shows me what I'm dealing with. Show this point to your friends so they also get a better understanding of you. Remember reading this, or perhaps you don't. From the post above that I highlighted in blue text. When you get over being stunned all Ive ever maintained is I'd take Fitz as the Buffalo Bills QB playing for the Buffalo Bills. I've also maintained Matt Ryan wouldn't have lasted the season behind the Bills O line the last two years!
  18. Yea I know the Nix speak well. I have been pushing for drafting a top LT since the Bills traded away JP. I suppose I just bought into this draft scenario to get Kalil and wanted DeCastro as well. I just see DeCastro as a future all pro guard who would help solidify that line from getting caved in. I still have visions of Jets NT Kris Jenkins being triple teamed by both guards and the center and he still got to the QB. I realize Jenkins is long gone now, but the Patriots still have Wilfork.
  19. You do love Ryan, or else you wouldn't defend him like you do, excuse after excuse. Even with all that talent around him he still folded like a lawn chair under a heavy rush pressure by the Packers. In my view he choked big time. Fitz see's that kinda of pressure almost every single game he plays, because he has played on some really bad teams. Most specifically that 2010 Buffalo Bills team had one of the worst offensive lines ever. I can tell you this right now, Matt Ryan wouldn't have made it thru that first Jets game in 2010 standing up, much less the season. That 13-3 Falcons team didn't get home field thru out because they sucked, they got beaten in the playoffs by a wildcard 9-7 Packer team mostly because they got behind in the score and Matt Ryan couldn't handle the pass rush, even with all those star receivers he still couldn't get them the ball. Bottom line: I've watched both QB's play, and Fitz handles the pressure better then Ryan has done. You missed the entire point in all my threads... because how dare anyone compare Fitz to Ryan. I'm happy for you that you are convinced Ryan is better then Fitz, and Fitz is merely average. I know what I saw in Fitz the first 8 games of last season, Fitz certainly looked above average to me when he had some semblance of a decent team around him. (although no where near the talent level the Falcons have) He must have also looked above average to the Bills FO to sign him to a fat new contract during the season. So I'd have to say the Bills FO takes my point of view.
  20. First off, love this idea. Buts its more of a Bill Polian move then a Buddy Nix move. We all know Buddy Nix covets every draft pick like his own children, so I highly doubt he trades any of his picks. Although, this move would be almost as monumental as acquiring DE Mario Williams as those two O linemen would go a long way to making the Bills line one of the best in the league for years to come. NFN, but the Vikings* will want the farm for that #3 pick, they have seen what the Redskins gave up for the #2 spot and they are jealous as hell 3, #1's picks, 2012, 2013, 2014, oh man....Thats right THREE first round draft picks for RG3 and that #2 spot. The Vikings* think that the Dolphins (who are desperate for a QB) will try and trade up in front of the browns for Tannehill, so the Vikes want some extra first round picks also. So, "IF" this happens before the draft the Bills might actually be in position to trade up without giving up the farm in draft picks to draft Kalil. I all reality I'd rather see the Bills draft David DeCastro with that #10 pick and then trade back up in the second half of the first round for OT Jonathan Martin or OT Mike Adams, or even WR Stephan Hill. Decastro would be an immense help on that line with Wood at Center and Levitre at the other guard position as that middle would be almost impossible cave in. Finally Fitz would have that much needed pocket to step up into on a consistent basis. The Bills just might see Hairston as their full time LT now, who knows The Bills still have many holes to fill and only so many picks to help this year
  21. Can they stop the run? We know the Bills will now have a very good pass rush, but this is a team that has been even worse at stopping the run then rushing the passer the last 6 years. So bad they were the worst run defense in the history of the 50 year franchise in 2010. So, in order to make a stand they will need to stop the run. The Jets are going back to being a run first team with Sparano calling plays and Tebow running the wildcat. The Patriots just signed 2 fullbacks when they didn't even have a fullback on the roster previous to those signings, what does that tell you? How long will it take the Dolphins to build a top running game if they see the Bills still can't stop the run?
  22. Yea, I get you love Matt Ryan. Now I realize I verbally stabbed you when i compared Ryan to Fitz It might appear to you that Ryan throws a much better deep ball simply because he throws deep more often as he has more time to throw in the pocket, plus Ryan can even step up in the pocket to make those deep throws because his line is so much better. The Falcons also have more then one decent receiver on their team I realize YOU don't think the line is much better, but it is. Go watch that first Jets game in 2010, the 14-38 loss. The one where Fitz is the leading rusher with 74 yards rushing. He gained those yards because the line was so bad he was forced to tuck and run it on almost every Bills offensive play. Talk about a jailbreak, Fitz was literally running for his life every play, and this is a QB that can get rid of the ball in under 1.5 seconds. The Jets only managed 3 sacks on Fitz that day which tells you that Fitz has crazy good escape ability, better then most any other QB I've ever watched. If Fitz should ever be in position to play in a playoff game, I'm thinking he wins it... if he has even near the talent on his team the Falcons have had the last 4 years.
  23. Just a side note I heard from a top ex GM on NFL network, one good WR is easy to defend. Two good WR's are much harder to defend. 3 good WR's makes it very difficult to defend. Probably kinda why with Roscoe Parrish healthy the Bills could easily move the ball in the air. The Bills had one half way decent WR toward the end of last season...
  24. IDK, common sense would dictate to me that any QB that doesn't have enough time in the pocket is going to hurry their passes and be inaccurate. The more harried they get the more inaccurate they get. Trent Edwards answer for being Harried was to simply dump the pass to the RB's, which he did quite often. Fitz OTOH would find that open WR and get him the ball, even when the WR wasn't always clearly open...kinda why he gets the nickname gunslinger. But the fact that he takes those chances that Edwards never would and moves the ball down the field is why we love him.
  25. Yea, like I mentioned getting those passes out in 2 seconds and under can be a big factor as to why Fitz isn't setup properly when he throws. I'll bet the majority of the bad passes are usually the result of being hurried so often. A better line can fix that, along with more time in an actual pocket.
