  1. Actually what he said was... Draft Analysis: Mayock's take: "I call him Clark Kent, and he can turn into Superman on Saturdays and Sundays. He's one of the cleanest players in this draft. His instincts and his pass-coverage ability might be the best of any linebacker I've seen come out of the draft." Kuechly had one of the most productive careers, in terms of tackles, in recent memory for a collegiate linebacker. Twelve tackles for loss is a testament to his overall ability and instincts to get in the backfield. He is more of an athlete than given credit for and has simply been a machine throughout his college career. Kuechly has all the tools to be an immediate starter in the NFL and shore up the middle of a defense. Mayock has him listed as an inside LBer, Nix stated he could play any LB position for the Bills. Like I said, there is a reason he went at #9. and talent like that you won't find in round 2 is what I was stating to Rico
  2. Each team grades players differently, I realize that. I didn't get those results from joe schmoes website. I quoted draftscout.com(15th), scout.com (27th) and Mike Mayock( 8th) all highly reputable scouting graders Gil Brandt also had the kid ranked at the 20th best player in the draft, PFW ranked him at 25. So looking at the majority of the boards and knowing that he moved up on most boards recently, picking at 10 it looks like a reach to me. Like I said, it looked like the Bills went BPA on their board. I just happen to think they had more pressing needs at other positions then CB.
  3. Mayock ranked him as the best cover LB he has ever seen, and went on to state that because the Bills biggest rival is currently the NE Patriots, and with their stable of big tight ends that the Bills would have been wise to take a LB that is actually able to drop back and cover them properly. I highly doubt you will find talent like that in round two or later, or they wouldn't be in round two. There is a reason why he went in the top ten, and probably why the Panthers took him right before the Bills selected.
  4. No he isn't, I've seen grades on him from the 27th to 15th to 8th and more, but nothing that says he should be a top 5 pick, NEVER! . a blue chipper is a top 5 pick, instant starter and impact player, pro bowler and believed to be on the roster for 8-10 years. This player moved up on draft boards recently. Who knows if this kid will even be a starting CB this year. Your opinion is equally meaningless to me, I'm rather used to you whining at me when I don't agree what everything that transpires at OBD The Bills still need to stop the run, which was worse then their pass rush the last two years...tough to believe I know. Blackmon- Kalil- Claiborne would be instant big impact starters as would be the LB. JMO
  5. What you see with Buddy Nix is what you get. Like I stated in other threads Buddy Nix covets his draft picks like he does his children and doesn't want to part with them. So get used to it, it isn't going to ever change with him as GM. .Clearly the Bills looked at the board at 10 and went BPA. My only thought is the Bills had bigger needs at other positions then CB. Nix was probably horrified by what he saw in his secondary from the last two years. The biggest problem with the last two years was a lack of pass rush and letting your DB's hang out to dry for 60 min. With the addition of super Mario, Anderson and a healthy Merriman it should change the complexion of that secondary almost completely. Super Mario is to the defense what Fitz is to the offense. One gives the opposing QB so much less time to throw, the other gets the ball out so quickly it negates the pass rush against him. The problem with the current Bills offense is it is very limited in what it can do with only one decent WR, one decent TE and a patchwork O line. I'm more disappointed in the fact that Nix doesn't have the balls or the vision to trade up and get a Blackmon- a Kuechly - a Kalil, or even Claiborne. Ya gotta pound the table for the blue chippers in this league. The thing is with the NFL draft is the further you go into it, the bigger percentage for failure you have. Its like guy at 5-7 are long shots to develop into anything, so why not trade those picks? Even Nix has a history of not finding the late round gems the last two years.
  6. Can anyone tell me what happens to the defensive secondary when a team has a bad defense with virtually no pass rush all game long? Was this position that great a need when the team took DB Aaron Williams with a #2 last year? Anyway, Mike Mayock did have the kid ranked as his #8 out of his top 100 players. So lets see what happens the next few days
  7. He looked like un-happy Gilmore when he heard he was a BB
  8. This is not what you initially stated.. Anyway, Nix came in thinking he could trust the judgement of the scouts because he didn't change anything until after 2010. How he could come to that assumption is beyond me simply because the past decade of ineptitude. Nothing in the franchise was in "shambles" as most of all the same personnel were retained. From what I recall only Modrak and Guy were replaced. There is no excuse for bringing in a total crap player like Cornell Green. Remember the wisecrack Nix made about getting some sleep as free agency opened in 2010? Cornell Green and other useless free agents was the result of Buddy Nix getting some sleep for the 2010 free agency period. The Bills DC was responsible for fielding the worst defense against the run in the 50 year history of the franchise in 2010... so Nix kept him for 2011. Even with all the defensive players brought in for free agency and the draft for 2011 the defense was still horrible save for the turnovers. I'm not obsessed with the Spiller pick, I'm obsessed with the stupidity that selected a guy that basically was a backup for 2 years on a team desperate for so many starters at so many positions. It didn't need to be Bulaga, it could have been OT Anthony Davis who the 49ers took 2 players after Spiller, oh yeah what a reach. all pro Maurkice Pouncey or all pro DE Jason Pierre- Paul ( lord only knows how desperate the Bills were for a pass rush) or a dozen other players taken in the first round of 2010 that became instant starters and impact players! Remember the line by Chan Gailey. "Spiller will make the line block better" what an utterly ridiculous statement. Nix might be a very good talent evaluator out in the field, but prior to 2011 he stinks as a GM. Gailey started out grooming Trent Edwards, so that shows what he knows about QB's. Then look at the play calls the second half of last season. That said, Nix finally fixed the pass rush after 2 horrifically bad defensive years. But, there is still some doubt about the run defense. So far the offense hasn't changed one thing in free agency, and it needs more help then the defense at this point. OL-WR-TE Like I said, we shall see.
  9. I've been reading excuses like this for 2 years now, and its complete BS. The core starters on the Bills 2010-2011 years team are almost the exact same starters Jauron had. QB-RB-WR-G-C were all on the team from the Jauron era. Nix didn't stabilize anything, he scrood the pooch and then made up for it with band-aids all over the team. In 2010 the team was desperate for a RT and instead of drafting an OT, they drafted Spiller who has been a backup RB for 2 years now. Nix brought in RT Cornell Green for 2 mil. Green was cut after a few weeks of stinking so bad at RT it was laughable. Then Nix needed to pull guys off the street to help at RT & G. This team still has loads of band-aids all over it. The reason why the Bills went 4-12 in 2010 were all the rookie assistant coaches Gailey hired from his days at GT, yea they were college coaches. Plus the failure to solidify that O line RT-G-C in the draft of free agency. Starting center Geoff Hangartner played with a bad back all 2010. Gailey started Trent Edwards remember? Gailey was exceedingly lucky he had a decent backup QB in Ryan Fitzpatrick. IMO it was Fitz's play that made Gailey look like a genius. I think it was more of Fitz reading the defense, setting protections and finding the open WR and getting the football out in under 2 seconds more then Gailey setting up anything. I think most fans give this GM and HC way to much credit. Marcel Darius fell to them at #3. Lots of defensive players drafted the last two years and still the Bills fielded a bad defense in 2011. This year will be the make or break year. If they fail to build that line properly again this year. I can almost guarantee that short passing game with one decent WR isn't going to win many games. The Bills had a top defense in 2002 and went nowhere because of a bad offense. Watching Gailey calling pass play after pass play after week 9 tells me he has no plan B. 2 more days, we shall see.
  10. ...and he wants a guy with a history of drug problems....a statue who has stone legs... who knows if he can read pro defenses.... If I'm not mistaken he was also pushing for Brian Brohm...
  11. If its WR Michael Floyd, I just don't get the attraction.I honestly don't get the love for Floyd. The kid has some issues and baggage. Can he get off press? He gets moved and rerouted a lot off the line. Watching both Blackmon vs Floyd against Stanford. Floyd had 8 catches for 92 yards and one TD. Blackmon had 8 catches for 182 and 3 TD's. Floyd against top 25 teams this past year, one TD and 23 catches in 4 games is really abysmal. Quinton Coples might be a bigger bust then Aaron Maybin. Mike Mayock says he wouldn't take the guy until the 3rd round. His 2010 tape makes him look like a top ten pick. His 2011 tape make him look like a bad pick in the first round. I think there are still overwhelming holes at WR- O line- TE- LB. Eric Wood at center, I love the guy. but will he last the season or end up on IR for the third straight year? Will the rookie LT make it thru a full season this year? No real back up at LT-C make this team extremely thin. Stevie Johnson at WR is great, but one WR is easily covered. Two great WRs its much tougher and so on. 3-5 great targets make it almost imposable for any secondary to cover. Just ask the Packers, the Patriots, the Saints et al. The Bills need a dominate second wide out, a top slot WR now that Parrish is a Charger, moving Spiller to full time WR might be the answer there, or splitting time with Fred Jackson in the slot and at RB. a top TE that can stay healthy. Will the Bills be able to stop the run this year? You need better LBers to do that. They didn't get much better at stopping the run last season with the players on the roster. I just hope the Bills make a smart choice for a player that can make an impact this year on offense as Fitz needs some better players around him
  12. Matt Kalil will most likely be gone at #3 overall to the Vikings and if not he won't make it out of the top 8. I can't tell you how overwhelmingly disappointed I'd be if the Bills didn't select the very best OT in this draft at #10
  13. I wouldn't be against it if they really think about letting him sit for a year and not listen to the fans...the guy needs some time to develop. As for developing QB's, lets not forget that Gailey groomed Trent Edwards to be the starter over Fitz. What happened with Edwards, Brohn, Brown? I don't see Gailey having enough time to develop any QB if he is devoting all his time to setting up the game plans, calling plays. Just being an NFL head coach can put some serious bags under the eyes. It wouldn't be the first time the Bills had a 1st round selection ride the bench for awhile..
  14. Not only that, looking back at least season the Bills were sorta openly amendment about how much they liked Von Miller and Cam Newton.... so look what happened there. Not that they are unhappy with MD, just think they wanted Newton and Miller more. I think they aren't going to show any interest in any of the top ten players hoping to get the guy they covet., or hoping that one of the top 5 players falls to them
  15. I wasn't trying to throw Stevie under the bus either, just pointing out that the guy wasn't a top draft pick, and he still has good games and bad. And that all QB's throw errant passes now and again, even Brady and Brees Yea I agree, the ENTIRE offense fell on its face after week 9 when Eric Wood went down and ended up on IR. Until that point both Fitz and the offense was playing pretty well, and had won a bunch of games. I suppose what Irks me the most is that some point at the QB and blame him for everything. some fans don't generally acknowledge that this current team is so limited for what it can do in the passing game because they only have one decent WR. A sort of scrub TE picked off the waiver wire. Some scrubs on that O line, and very little depth all around. Johnson barely broke the top 20 as a WR last year. Fitz is also currently in that 20 range category as a top QB. I believe both players could improve greatly by the addition of some quality help at WR-TE-O line. Lets hope they get that help this weekend NFL QB's don't play in a vacuum tube, they play on a team and most of the time they are only as good as the team around them. The world can see Fitz for what he has done in the past on bad teams, so that is how they judge him. I look at him and see a QB that has developed into a survivor. A journeyman QB that has learned how to survive on some of the worst teams I've ever witnessed. I honestly don't see how anyone can judge the caliber of a QB without looking at the team around him, makes no sense to me. I would compare Fitz right now to Rich Gannon. Gannon didn't fully develop until the late stages of his career while he was with the Raiders. He managed to play 17 years in the NFL and only becoming a top QB in Jon Grudens WCO in his 12th year.
  16. I'm thinking you didn't read thru this entire thread, because on page 3 I listed the Bills WR's and their rating along with receptions vs targets. I also posted a you tube video of that dropped pass by Stevie Johnson in the end zone against the Steelers. You know, the one that would have won them the game in OT. If you watch it the announcers make a comment that Johnson had dropped 5 passes that day. I was merely pointing to the Fitz haters that Stevie Johnson wasn't some super star WR early round draft pick. He was a 7th round pick that came into his own because Fitz kept throwing to him. Johnson only caught 2 passes in all of 2009. So it was in 2010 that once Fitz became the full time starter did Johnson emerge as a standout WR. "You could levy the same charge against Steve Johnson of Buffalo, who was capable of looking the real deal one game, and then dropping five passes the next. Consistency and concentration are key attributes of guys who finish highly in these rankings, and it would be fair to say both men could do with working on those attributes to take their already impressive games to the next level." Johnson was in the bottom 15 drop percentage in 2010. I believe Johnson was around 57% last year for his catch rate http://www.profootba...rop-percentage/ NFN, But I wouldn't call one sentence a rant..... your post however
  17. My point to you is... how do you know Fitz is incapable of becoming a better QB with a better cast of players around him. Look at what he has accomplished with mostly cast offs and scrubs. Imagine a first round WR, or LT The Bills have been drafting mostly for the defense the last few years. Spiller was a moronic pick considering the lack of talent on that O line at the start of 2010, and the lack of talent at WR-TE Spiller was a waste at one, Easly was a waste at 4, Wang was a waste at 5. The Bills took Hairston with their 2nd 4th round pick in 2011, and good freaking thing they did or they would have needed to pull guys off the street again, like they did in 2010 for RT. Kinda wasting your time with this, some people are so myopic they only see the QB. They think Brady -Rodgers- Brees or even that second tier would have taken this same team to the playoffs the last two years. I've been tying to explain and most fans just don't get it. Weeks 10-16 of the 2011 season was a recap of the entire 2010 season. Lets not forget that the 2010 team was even worse then the 2011 team and mostly horrific. Stevie Johnson in 2009 had 2 receptions for 10 yards, it was TO, Evans and Parrish as the main WR's. In 2010 they didn't resign TO and Parrish only played in the first 8 games. Lee Evans played in 13 games The starting TE in 2010 was David Martin who had 7 catches for 43 yards. So Fitz was sorta forced into finding someone who he could get the ball to very quickly, and thus Bills fans fell in love with WR Stevie Johnson. A 7th round WR who drops a ton of balls, it doesn't matter tho....its the QB's fault because he is so inaccurate.
  18. In all honesty I hated the guy prior to the 2010 season and was complaining about the Bills settling for a back up like Fitz even being on the team due to his record as a back up QB. I was rather annoyed at the fans who were enamored with him because he won a few games under Perry Fewell in 2009 after Trent Edwards was benched. Then I watched him play in 2010, with the O line in complete shambles. No RT, a center playing with a bad back. I watched as Fitz literally ran for his life every offensive play in week 4 against the Jets, he was the leading rusher in that game. The Bills line was so bad that they couldn't run, they couldn't throw and Fitz did his best to even survive that game. If I wasn't a Bills fan it would have been downright hilarious to watch Fitz scramble for his life play after play. I did start to admire his escapability tho. In 2010 he had QB rushing stats very similar to Mike Vick with a 6.8 YPC avg. Then I watched him lead his team to OT against the Ravens, Chiefs and Steelers. I keep posting that youtube video of Stevie Johnson dropping that TD pass in the endzone, because if not for that drop, and the WR makes that catch, its a game winner. The Bills won games against Cleveland and Cincy 49-31and almost beat the Steelers and Ravens. Both the Ravens (34-37 OT @ Baltimore) and Steelers are perennial playoff teams, and do not give up wins easily. If Fitz can play like that with a crap O line, a crap WR corps, and no TE. I came away with the realization that Fitz had experience playing against teams in the NFC North because he was a back up at Cincy and had learned how to play against their respective defenses. I didn't start out liking Fitz because he was now the starter of the Buffalo Bills. I don't consider myself a "homer" by any means. I grew to like him because he was able to get things done with sub par talent around him. Did all those cast off scrub players from other teams magically become good players once they donned a Bills uniform? Actually, they all still mostly suck, Its Fitz that is making them look good. 2 of the 5 current O linemen wouldn't even make other teams rosters, how do I know this? Because that's where they came from, cast offs from other teams. That rookie LT Hairston wasn't ready to be a starter, he was forced into action because of an injury to the starter and did OK because all he needs to do is pass block for 2 seconds. Almost anyone weighing 300 lbs could manage to get in the way of an oncoming defender for at least 2 seconds. What I don't understand is why I need to defend Fitz at all to other Bills fans? Are they all so blind that they don't see how bad some of the players around Fitz really are? The 7th round WR that became good only because Fitz kept throwing to him. No other decent top WR even on the roster. A patchwork O line with only 2 quality players, and one of those two keeps ending his season on IR. A TE that no other team wanted, 3 teams in 3 years says it all. Fitz managed to make the guy look like a viable pass catching TE. Both Chan Gailey and Buddy Nix went on record as stating if Cam Newton had been there at the 3 spot in 2010 he would have become a Buffalo Bill. So clearly this regime thinks that while Fitz is better then those other rookie QB's in the 2010 draft class that might take a few years to develop. Ponder, Locker, Dalton. He isn't better then Newton. This Bills FO must believe that Fitz is more then adequate at QB to lead this team to the playoffs or they would have already replaced him, or at least drafted his eventual replacement. Apparently this FO thinks there are more pressing needs on this team then replacing the QB or even drafting a back up to groom. Even the owner went on record as stating Fitz will be fine, they just need to get him some runners, some WR's and a TE that can stay healthy. They wouldn't have paid Fitz what they paid him if they didn't think he was capable of leading this team to the playoffs. You guys are all taking about winning a super bowl and this team hasn't even had a winning record for 8 years, and the last time they were in the playoffs was 1999. The Ravens used a first round pick on Joe Flacco in 2008 and have been developing the guy for years. They have been in the playoffs almost every year since drafting him and still haven't been to a super bowl. IMO Fitz is better then Flacco and just needs a decent team around him to prove it.
  19. Last season Fitz was looking like a top ten / pro bowl QB when center Eric Wood was healthy, the line playing well and Fred Jackson running hard. Then in week 9 against the Jets the wheels came off when Eric Wood went out. With no reliable back up center, and both LT's Bell, and the rookie Hairston suffering injuries the line went to hell. That is what caused that 7 game losing skid from week 9 to week . Not to mention the game before the Jets game Fitz was hit so hard he suffered cracked / broken ribs. In week 10 Fred Jackson went out with an injury and ended up on IR so the running game went out the window. It didn't seem to matter anyway because the defense was so bad that the team was always playing catch up, and Gailey would call for throw throw throw right into the teeth of the defense. Dallas 44, Bills 7 remember that game? Miami 35, Bill 8. The O line was so bad against the Dolphins the Bills couldn't even get the snap off properly most of that game. Still, Gailey would call pass after pass, and Fitz, the brave soul that he is, stood there and took it... cracked ribs and all. Passing attempts 578, rushing attempts 391....if Fitz is average or below average as most fans here claim he is. Then why is it then, that this HC tries to force the QB to win games instead of running the ball more? The Man did draft a RB with his first pick, still can't figure out why he doesn't work him. I think the team around Fitz could drastically improve more.
  20. I don't believe that bolded part for a second, not one second ! So many Bills fans complain about Fitz's accuracy problems over and over. Yet, look who he has to throw to! His second best WR option at the end of last year was the 3 string QB Brad Smith! Look at the protections he has had during his career as a back up and now starter for the Bills. His ability to get the ball out in 1.5 seconds has been born out of his ability to survive. Same with his ability to scramble as good as Mike Vick at times. Fitz took a 7th round WR and made him his "go to" guy and thus turned him into a viable top WR. When the Bills benched Stevie Johnson in that game against the Patriots Fitz found WR Derek Hagan 8 times for 89 yards...Derek who? Fitz didn't throw to Lee Evans very often because Evans was the Bills deep speed threat. But what good is that type of WR if you can't complete the pass patterns to them because they take to long to develop. What about the lame offense Gailey has setup. That even when his RB's are playing well, he stops using them to constantly throw throw throw ... right into the teeth of the defense. Particularly when the opposing team has the lead, even down by as little as 7 points. Gailey was constantly trying to force Fitz to throw and win the game... which generally leads to INT's when the QB is under constant duress. The Bills defense was so bad that they rarely had a lead, which meant that the Bills were always trying to throw from behind. The opposing defense can then pin their ears back, rush the passer, blitz blitz blitz. Gaileys answer was to throw throw throw! When Brian Brohm, Trent Edwards and Tyler Thigpin were behind center they showed how bad that line really is... with the linemen trying to hold blocks for more then 3 seconds, they couldn't do it. What I do believe is that Fitz is as accurate as his line allows, the better the line, the better his accuracy. The honest answer is Fitz has never had an O line even close to as good as Jim Kelly had, much less a WR corps the likes of Reed, Beebe,Lofton. He does have a Thurman Thomas clone in Freddy Jackson so the Bills can run the ball with authority when Fred is healthy. Until the Bills build that line properly to hold blocks for deeper passing plays. Get a decent WR corps better then the 19th ranked WR, and next best WR was ranked 61st in David Nelson. Fred Jackson was ranked 106, Scott Chandler 120th, CJ Spiller 159th, Naaman Roosevelt 167th,Derek Hagan 171, Brad Smith 177th, Donald Jones 183. Nobody will truly know if Fitz is good enough to be a top QB. Stevie Johnson 76 rec- 135 targets---59 David Nelson 61 rec- 98 targets---37 Fred Jackson 39 rec- 50 targets---11 Scott Chandler 38 rec -46 targets---8 CJ Spiller 39 rec- 53 targets---14 Naaman Roosevelt 16 rec- 26 targets--10 Derek Hagan 24 rec -42 targets---18 Brad Smith 23- 42 targets---17 Donald Jones 23- 46 targets---23 Dunno about what you think, but I'd put CJ or Fred in the slot. always call Chandler as the primary receiver, and find a #1 WR who can actually catch the ball. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHhK2pWZ2dM yep, Fitz is so inaccurate ...
  21. When I read stuff like this...other Bills fans dreaming about a QB with a rocket for an arm to play for the Buffalo Bills.... I need to pause and wonder why? Its not the QB that's the problem on this team in regards to the current lack of a Bills deep passing game. Its the lack of a top WR with the speed to get instant separation off the line. Its the lack of talent on the O line that would allow any Bills QB to take repeated 5-7 step drop backs without getting killed. Its the lack of a true power running attack that would allow play action to work effectively. Ya gotta remember back when Jim Kelly was throwing to Andre Reed, James Lofton and Don Beebe along with that K-gun offense and the "no huddle". The Bills had a very strong viable offensive line, an excellent TE who could also play OT or guard in Pete Metzalaars. The Bills often ran the ball more then they threw it. The Bills actually ran to set up the pass with Thurman Thomas. People forget what ole Ted Marchibroda brought to the Buffalo Bills with that Redskins "counter trey" offensive running game in the spread formation. 1987-516 attempts passing for 2901, 465 attempts rushing for 1840---7-8 Jim Ringo as OC. Ex Colt HC Ted Marchibroda hired in off season to be the new OC 1988-454 attempts passing for 3182, 528 attempts rushing for 2133---12-4 playoffs 1989-478 attempts passing for 3589, 532 attempts rushing for 2264---9-7 playoffs 1990- 425 attempts passing for 3196, 479 attempts rushing for 2080---13-3 super bowl 1991-516 attempts passing for 3871, 505 attempts rushing for 2381 rushing---13-3 super bowl 1992-509 attempts passing for 3457, 549 attempts rushing for 2436 rushing---11-5 super bowl with Tom Bresnahan as OC. Marichibroda was hired away from the Bills by the Colts to be their HC again. LT, Will Wolford also left in free agency. 1993-497 attempts passing for 3317, 550 attempts rushing for 1943 rushing---12-4 super bowl 1994-542 attempts passing for 3413, 483 attempts rushing for 1831 rushing---7-9 All those glory years the Bills ran the ball more then they threw it. They had a very balanced attack with Thurman Thomas dominating as he led the NFL in yards from scrimmage 89-90-91-92 Thomas was a big a threat as a receiver out of the backfield as he was as a RB and basically started the RB that could do everything concept that Marshall Faulk and others later took up on.
  22. Yea I agree, Jeff George had a great arm, and no brain to help him develop properly. Perhaps the QB with the most powerful arm in the world is available right now for no draft picks, just give JaMarcus Russell's agent a call. Seriously Bill, why would you want a statue for a QB on this current team. Fitz gets rid of the ball faster then most QB's and he still takes a beating every game. He played with broken / cracked ribs most of last year. Plus Fitz has an uncanny ability to scramble about as good as Mike Vick and he needs to now and then. Perhaps the bromance for a strong armed QB to throw those tight spirals into the strong winds during those cold winter games at Rich stadium bring back thoughts of Jim Kelly and Co. Anyway, this current Buffalo Bills offensive line is still patched with band-aids at several positions, and a stone legged pocket passer would get killed behind center in Buffalo. There is a reason that Gailey utilizes a quick short passing scheme.. Not to many 5-7 step drops in his offense, kinda why Lee Evans became expendable. Not to mention ....exactly which one of Buffalo's deep speed WR's would Mallet be throwing to? Lastly, there are two QB's in this draft with outstanding arms in Brock Osweiler and Branden Weeden, and the latter has pretty good mobility for a guy with that good an arm. I'd rather see the Bills draft Weeden and let Gailey develop him before trading away a #3 pick for a statue like Mallet
  23. This GM thinks of his draft picks like they are his children, he isn't going to trade away what he covets. Unless its a deal to good to turn down and the player or players he wants are gone. If any of those top 5 players fall to the 10 spot Buddy wants to be there to tab them. Matt kalil, Trent Richardson, Morris Claiborne, Justin Blackmon, Melvin Ingram. I can envision so many great trades should any of those 5 fall to the Buffalo Bills. Plus, I could see the Bills actually taking Blackmon, Kalil, Claiborne. What most of you guys fail to realize is that, although they aren't saying it, every team behind the Bills would love to have that 10th pick
  24. Now I know most fans will say that the signing of Mario Williams will define this regime. I just don't think it will, and here is why. I look at this team for the past 2 years under Nix / Gailey and see they failed to build a decent defense along with virtually no pass rush, and at this point they became desperate to fix both problems. They must have realized there was no dominate pass rusher in this years draft. So they went and got the best one they could find in free agency. Kudo's to them for finally fixing a problem that has plagued this franchise since Aaron Schobel was injured in 2009. Because not trusting in just one player they went and got another pass rusher in Mark Anderson. Finally fixed Now, after listening to Michael Lombardi on NFL network, he thinks the Bills will go defense or WR with the #10 pick this year. The thinking is either LB Luke Kuechly or WR Michael Floyd. But, I would think everything will depend on what players fall to the Bills at the 10 spot. If Justin Blackmon or Melvin Ingram, Matt Kalil, Morris Claiborne or even Trent Richardson fall to the #10, it could be any of those. It could be Fletcher Cox to help in the DT rotation. It could be a corner. It could be a LB because for the love of god.... the Bills have been worse at stopping the run the last 6 years then they were rushing the passer....if you can believe that! They were so bad in 2010 they set a franchise record for being the worst run defense in the 50 year history of the team. That is a pretty unbelievable statement that nobody at OBD really takes to heart or they would have tabbed LBers in free agency...oh wait, what top LBers were in this years free agent class? If its WR Michael Floyd, I just don't get the attraction.I honestly don't get the love for Floyd. The kid has some issues and baggage. Can he get off press? He gets moved and rerouted a lot off the line. Watching both Blackmon vs Floyd against Stanford. Floyd had 8 catches for 92 yards and one TD. Blackmon had 8 catches for 182 and 3 TD's. Floyd against top 25 teams this past year, one TD and 23 catches in 4 games is really abysmal. I'd take Kendal Wright over Floyd, he doesn't have the height that Floyd does but he has more big play potential IMO. But hey! what do I know. Now the thinking just might be that one WR is just not enough, and that opposing teams can easily cover one WR. So with two top WR's it will make it more difficult to cover both. Well that aspect really works best when you have 3 good WR's and a good TE, it makes it almost impossible to cover 4 receivers well. In my view the Bills currently have one good proven WR. They let slot WR Roscoe Parrish leave in free agency. ( which btw might prove to be a mistake) . The Bills have a ton of WR's on the roster but only one proven top WR in Stevie Johnson. Now, last season when Gailey benched Stevie Johnson in that Patriot game an unknown WR by the name of Derek Hagan stepped up and had 7 receptions for 89 yards, and led the team in receiving that week. So, if Fitz doesn't have his "go to" guy on the field in Johnson will he simply find a different "go to"guy? Now for the real part of this thread. What will define this regime is what they do on the offensive side this year, and not at WR with the #10 pick. What good is an outside tall WR when the QB doesn't have the time to get him the ball? Ask Trent Edwards and TO. Simply look what happened to this team last year when they started getting injuries on the O line. First Bell went out at LT, then Hairston the rookie LT went out with an injury. G Andy Levitre stepped in at LT. But when starting center Eric Wood went on IR the crap really hit the proverbial fan. Does anyone else recall how bad the Bills were against the Dolphins in week 11, they couldn't even get a decent snap off . The Bills tried 3-4 guys at center and finally got a bit of stability when Urbik took over. The line was a mess for the second half of the year and it really caused this team to miss a chance at a winning season. The Bills got by most of last year with a quick, short passing attack. But having a one dimensional offensive passing scheme isn't going to get you to a winning season unless you have Joe Montana at QB. Even Joe M might not survive in this Bills scheme when Fitz gets the ball out in under 1.5 seconds and he still gets whacked a lot. Fitz playing the rest of last season with broken / cracked ribs after that Redskins game in week 8. Then Eric Wood went on IR after week 9. The Fred Jackson went on IR after week 10. As bad as the defense was last year, it was the offense crapping the bed that killed the team. Adding talent and depth at center-OT and guard could help this team become more then a one dimensional passing offense. This is the second year that center Eric Wood end the year on IR. The man might be the best player on that line, but what good is he on IR after 9 games? The Bills need to give Fitz the time and protection in the pocket to throw more then just quick, short passes. Is this the year this regime throws Fitz under the bus by not building that line properly....again? A top ten defense and good running game can't hide that limited passing offense for very long, and when it fails to produce all eyes will fall on the QB. Tyler Thigpin and Brad Smith are not the answer at QB either. This year the Bills need to add talent and depth to that O line OT-C. They need to find a top TE that can stay healthy all year. They need to find another outside WR to complement Johnson and they need to find a good slot WR. They need to get Fitz some serious help all around him. What will define this years team is what this GM & HC do for the offense in the draft this year. Not adding talent and depth after letting starting LT Bell leave in free agency could result in another disastrous season JMHO
