Gailey's talent assessment???
thewildrabbit replied to Dragonborn10's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I did say FILM and preseason. Gailey had more then enough film on both Edwards and Green to know they both sucked. This isn't rocket science, its can... they ....play! Man you guys sure can defend a HC you happen to like! But as one poster put it, hapless Dick Jauron did better ....even with inferior QB's. I'm pulling for Gailey to even field a winning team, so far its not looking good. -
Gailey's talent assessment???
thewildrabbit replied to Dragonborn10's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Top head coaches don't need to watch a player in 2-5 regular season games to know if they can play at the NFL level or not. All it should take is some film and preseason. Case in point. Both Trent Edwards and Cornell Green in Gaileys first year. It took 5 games before this staff figured out Green was useless, 2 games before they figured out Edwards was useless. I'm pretty certain that Green had a lot to do with how effective Edwards was in those first two games considering he couldn't hold a block for 2 seconds. The Bills started that 2010 season 0-8. The entire preseason and training camp wasted on giving Edwards first string reps is probably a big reason why it took so long to win a game. Not to mention finding a RT off the street to fill in for Green who was cut after 5 games. Most the fans posting here knew after 3 games that Cornell Green was the worst FA RT this team has even brought in, and for 2 mill a season. The fans knew in the offseason that Edwards was done, Gailey didn't! The Bills DC Perry Fewell knew that Edwards was done the year before, its why he benched him over Fitz. Gailey is in his 3rd year and still no top rookie QB!! My guess is all this talk of him being a Megamind and QB guru is a bunch of hogwash. Recall that Fitz stated that until THIS off season with QB coach David Lee he hadn't been taught proper mechanics. So that means in his 2 years previous with Gailey he was on his own, just like Edwards / Losman with Schonert and AVP. If Gailey knew how good Fred Jackson was you think he would have wasted his very first #1 draft pick on a RB? This HC was the best Buddy Nix could find to take the job back in 2010, and so far it looks like he needs at least 5 years to get things working correctly. I can only think that next year will be the year Nix / Gailey finally decide to draft a rookie QB. So the 3 year plan turned into a 5 year plan and that turned into a 7 year plan. I don't think RW is gonna make it to see this staff get his team into the playoffs. -
One thing worth noting from tonight's scrimmage
thewildrabbit replied to Simon's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
naa, he hated Marv IMO fans should be concerned over those first two preseason games, not about the final scores or how the 2nd,3rd string players looked. The Bills looked very badly in many areas they were supposed to improve in. I'll wait until the first REGULAR SEASON game before making to much of it tho -
Dont ya like the way Bills fans can make excuses The Bills wanted to run the ball more effectively this week against the Vikes in verious formatations, they didn't! In fact they looked downright pathitic in trying to run the ball. Many times being tackled for a loss. The passing offense was just as bad in that Fitz didn't have much time to throw and nobody was open very often. Now the defense has got me wondering if Wannstache is gonna try and tank the defense to get the HCing job. How many first round picks on that defense? Not very much to be excited about so far this preseason, VY to TJ was a bright spot. FJ as usual. Nelson might actually step up to be a decent #2 Here is hoping they get some of this fixed before the opening game at the Jets. Let's not forget that first game against the Jets last year, that game really took a toll on the Bills in so many ways. Injuries, morale... the team was just not the same after that game.

I attended every game home game and all the home playoff games from 1989 thru 1995 including all 4 SB's. I did miss some away regular season and some away playoff games tho. Went to the 88 AFC championship game in Cincy, The Bills beat the Oilers in the previous playoff game at Buffalo 17-10. Went to the Cleveland playoff game(Ronnie Harmon drop) in 89. TT had 150 yards receiving, and 2 TDs, what a great performace! One of the games I missed was the 92 AFC champ game in Miami, I had tickets for the game but something came up and I couldn't go. Beating Dan Marino in Miami would have been one I would have loved to have watched in person PS. My favorite game of all time is probably obscure to most Bills fans now. Nov 20th,1988 Jets at Bills 6-9 OT final score as the Bills won the division in week 12. We watched the game in a driving rainstorm, cold and very windy. I believe the Bills set an NFL record for fastest division win. The fans rushed down the aisles and onto the field, then the goal posts came down and then went up into the stands. The entire field was filled with fans going nuts. That was THE "Fan-demonium" game as the Buffalo news sported that headline the next day.

Like I said, Gailey has more to prove then anyone, including the QB. Lets not forget that Gailey chose Trent Edwards to start the 2010 season, and hasn't even attempted to draft a QB high enough to be of any use since he was hired. Putting the entire blame on the QB is not unusual. But in this case I think the blame needs to fall squarely on the head coach. Fitz still doesn't have a top O line as that right side is still very questionable. Nor does Fitz have a top 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th WR when Gailey starts calling for those 5 WR empty backfield sets. There is basically nobody past Stevie Johnson, ranked 19th. Nelson was # 61, the next best WR Naaman Roosevelt was next at 167th. So the 3rd best WR was ranked 167, that is pathetic. How do you constantly run a 4-5 WR sets with only one good WR?

Wildcat: I just threw up in my mouth.
thewildrabbit replied to MikeSpeed's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well I can tell you that the Bills didn't run it often last year because of the strike shortened off season as they never really got much time to implemement it. This year with David Lee as QB coach and Brad Smith as the solid #3 QB I think they will utilize it a whole lot more. However, It still remains to be seen if Brad Smith can run the WC effectively in Buffalo! I can see the OP point, will it be wise to try the WC when Fitz is in a rythem and playing well? Will it be wise to substitute a 3rd string QB for the starting QB or RB? My answer is yeah! It should prove very useful in certain situations. Among others, like short yardage when you need 2 yards or a red zone goal line, and a closed formation just won't get it done. Think of it as an option play where the QB is both the RB and QB and can either throw it, run it or toss outside to the RB. This causes verious problems for the defense to maintain containment. Fitz is certinly a very mobile QB but you wouldn't want him to try and run and possiably get seriously injured. Freddy is a great RB but you don't want him as the option QB all the time PS My take on why the Bills signed VY is because he is a bigger, stronger version of BS, and should do worlds better running the WC. VY is the better QB & RB. IMO. Its what he did in college and was a world beater at it. 467 yards of offense in the 06 rose bowl. the #3 overall pick in 2006. if there ever was a QB to build an offense around its this guy. The Bills need to look at how the Panthers were able to get Cam Newton to run that "air Coryell" offense so well. Should Fitz suffer an injury which puts him on the bench, i sure have more faith in VY who was a 2x pro bowler and starter as backup then TT or BS. But then, wth do I know. -
Would You Trade Any 3 Bills Players for Andrew Luck?
thewildrabbit replied to Boludo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The guy looked great in one preseason game... perhaps because it was against the Rams defense ( new staff). Perhaps one HC / owner called another and said I need to sell tix, let my guy look good willya. Its preseason, lets see what he does in week one in the regualr season at Chicago against a good defense. I'm not convinced just yet, one guy goes into his first year and takes a pounding and gets better (Manning-Aikman), another guy takes a pounding and gets worse (David Car-Joey Harrington) Its not just about how good Luck is, its also about how good his coaching staff, and players around him are the next few years, and how they build that team NFN but if ya give them SJ, wth on the team is going to be a receiving threat? The next Bills guy is ranked at #61. OTOH, The guy was worth 3 first rounders before the draft, and the Colts probably wouldn't have even traded him for that... so yea -
Gailey has more to prove then anyone in my view, can this man get a team to the playoffs? We all know he can get an ordinary QB to light it up at times, but can he get them to win games? The running game works great with a spread offense and yet gets stuffed when they go to a closed formatation and need just 2 yards. The passing game looks great against a weak secondary that can barley cover one good WR, but against good teams one good WR isn't going to get it done...not ever! Will that O line allow the QB to throw mid to deep passes on a consistant basis or are the Bills stuck with that one trick pony, short/quick passing scheme? You know, the one that defenses figured out last season and shut it down for 9 games. We are all still waiting to see that proverbial baby, so now we are also waiting to see the light of day.

Likely the first conversation Nix had with Mr. Ralph
thewildrabbit replied to Hplarrm's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You can bet your arse If Cam were there at 3 he would have been a Buffalo Bill, OVER Von Miller and Darius This was stated by NGU before the draft and both Nix and Gailey had stated so after the draft. In fact they both told Ryan Fitzpatrick that if Newton was there at #3 they would have drafted him. So this entire thread is nonsense -
Edwards ran the west coast offense while at college at Stanford. So not having an experienced NFL OC to teach him any different (brain dead Schonert & AVP as OC's) its what he knew. Edwards had it so great In Buffalo, that all pro WR corps and O line.... 5 concussions in 3 years! Bet he still exchanges xmas cards with Jauron I'm just happy the Bills found a QB that can perform with sub par players around him

QB will be the reason we still can't get it done
thewildrabbit replied to Toshiero's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
TO signed with Seattle after he ran a 4.5 40. Plaxaco is still out there tho At this point I'm more concerned with the Bills WR corps, last season Johnson #19-Nelson #61 and the 3rd WR was Naaman Roosevelt @ # 167, Brad Smith # 177.... which is kinda scary when you think of all of those 4-5 WR sets Gailey called last year -
QB will be the reason we still can't get it done
thewildrabbit replied to Toshiero's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
fair enough, but did you also notice that Stevie didn't catch a ball for the time he was in the game. I think the offense was calling other numbers to see if they could produce or not. Only 3 weeks left to see any of those young WR's are worth a darn -
QB will be the reason we still can't get it done
thewildrabbit replied to Toshiero's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My take on the offense was that Gailey wants to see who he has as a #2, #3, #4 WR on this team and had the QB's throw throw throw. At this point I'm more concerned about who is going to step up and start catching the ball, run the proper route, make the reads at the line then I am about the QB position Big dropoff between Stevie and the rest of the pack... -
NFL RUMOR: Bills close to waiving Vince Young
thewildrabbit replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Exactly why is it doubtful they keep 3 when they have kept 3 the last two years. Considering the injuries that occur each game in the NFL they would be foolish to not keep 3. I just don't see Thigpen as a viable back up tho. Hope Nix is watching that waiver wire -
He wants to much $$$ from what I'm reading or he would have been signed by now Just think Plax might actually catch a ball thrown to him, unlike the current great Bills WR's
-
Mainly because the Bills haven't even fielded a winning team under Nix / Gailey yet, much less a playoff spot. The Dolphins have a new HC and staff, new rookie QB, and will no doubt suffer growing pains. The Jets are already bickering and fighting amongst themselves. The Patriots have the best HC and coaching staff, best QB, and are ranked as the #2 team in the NFL after having just gone to the SB with a 13-3 record (2010, 14-2)(2009, 10-6)( 2008,11-5)( 2007, 16-0) Shoot, the Pats even lose their starting all pro QB Tom Brady for the entire season and still go 11-5 The Bills need to have a winning season before anyone outside of upstate NY takes them seriously

NFL RUMOR: Bills close to waiving Vince Young
thewildrabbit replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yea well, apperantly you missed this article "When you get a guy that's really great at something - and he's a great runner - it makes him exceptional and it makes him more difficult to defend, and it gives you a chance for more big plays," Lee said. "That's what we saw Sunday night. We're not discouraging that. It's something you can't coach." http://www.buffalonews.com/sports/bills-nfl/article977585.ece The Bills have Brad Smith listed as the 4th QB under "other" on their website -
Why did Fitz start the last 3 games?
thewildrabbit replied to Billsrhody's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree with the OP, why not see what the back ups can do? Obviously Gailey didn't think enough of Thigpen to sit Fitz when he was hurt so clearly he doesn't think Thigpen can win games when the games matter. Still why not put him out there if the games no longer matter to see if he is even worthy of the money he is making as a backup. Fitz threw 4 TD's vs 9 INTs in his last 4 games. My presonal take is Thipen would have been destroyed behind that haphazard O line. Gailey calling 5 WR sets with one decent WR... who btw was playing thru a groin injury. -
NFL RUMOR: Bills close to waiving Vince Young
thewildrabbit replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yea, i was thinking this is baloney. I would think the Bills would keep VY over Brad Smith unless of course the Bills want Smith as a WR. Why would it be unheard of to keep 3 QB's on the roster. VY would be a prefect choice to run the WC, and if they keep him it would give him more time to pick up the offense. I don't see him being cut unless the Bills are thinking of picking up Colt McCoy once he is cut -
Concerns rasied about Buffalo's receiving corps
thewildrabbit replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If nobody steps up by the end of preseason to be that #2 or #3 WR the Bills should at least take a look at Plaxico Burress or perhaps pursue a trade for Mike Wallace. The Bills need a top #2 & #3 WR to make that offense more potent. One decent WR isn't going to get it done. -
Concerns rasied about Buffalo's receiving corps
thewildrabbit replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The main problem with the Bills offense was the lack of a mid to deep passing game due to sub par O line. Limited with a one trick pony passing offense with their quick, short passing scheme as it held them back greatly compared to the Patriots. Then the injuries further hampered the offense. Welker is an unbelievable WR and they have two very good tight ends as outlets, the Patriots didn't have the deep passing game they used to have with Randy Moss. Still, they were able to run those shotgun 3-5 WR sets with great success as Brady has much better protection with a better O line then the Bills have. The Patriots not only have a better receiving corps, better O line, better QB, better play caller. It all goes hand in hand, who is to say that if the Bills fielded talent around Fitz like Brady has that Fitz couldn't put up around the same numbers. I think Fitz has done more with so much lesser talent around him. Plus Fitz is a very mobile QB, almost Mike Vickesque. Brady would have been carried out on a stretcher before mid season the last two years IMO. It remains to be seen if the O line has improved this year with Glenn on the roster. It also remains to be seen if any of the promising young wide outs on the roster can even come close to the talent of David Nelson. Kinda sucks the Bills will wait until the bullets start flying before they figure anything out
