  1. I disagree, I think Wannstooge is stupid and the worst DC the Bills have ever had. Either that or he is tanking the defense on purpose. Its tough to believe he can be this bad with all his NFL experience as DC. Did you happen to watch the Tampa Bay - Viking game Thurs night? The Buc's run a 4-3 and they were constantly sending LBers, safeties and CB's to blitz the QB. The Vikes QB was under constant duress and was forced to throw the ball away down after down. Needless to say the TB defense won that game for them hands down. At the end of the game when the score was 36-17 the Buc's stopped blitzing and rushed only 4, and dropped into coverage. The Vikings were finally able to move the ball somewhat. The Bucs, who became just the second visiting team to win on a Thursday night in seven games this season, revived their struggling pass rush with three sacks and flustered Christian Ponder with a heavy dose of blitzes. Ponder finished 19 for 35 for 251 yards, one touchdown and a late interception at the end of a desperation drive. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/gametracker/recap/NFL_20121025_TB@MIN Wannstooges idea is to rush 4, from the same position and no blitzes. Drop into coverage and defend. The Bills are currently 31st in total defense, last against the run. Guess what? His defense sucks moose dangle, and so does he.
  2. Are you blind, can't watch the games ? The Bills have a much worse defense then when those two were in Bills Uni's. Whitner was there to make all the tackles missed by the front 7, so yeah I'd say they miss him. Poz was better then anyone the Bills currently have at MLB Currently the Bills are 31st in total defense and last against the run
  3. Talk to Chan and tell him, friend or no friend, Dave Wannstedt needs to go! If you refuse to to fire him, then I'll fire the both of you! Defenses are usually the first to learn all their plays, get them down and own the offense long before everything is learned on the O side of the ball. This defense isn't going to get better! As the season wears on other teams will have plenty of film to break down and it can only get worse from here. Should Gailey fire Wannstedt then tell him to promote Bob Sanders to DC as interim. Then after the season look for the best DC I can find to hire because clearly Gailey is clueless about how to find a proper DC. Tell Sanders I want to see the players on line moving around to maximize strengths vs weakness. Kyle Williams is a monster and you need to find the weakest position and move Williams there. The Bills need 3 more Kyle Williams! Have the line players run stunts to confuse who is rushing and who is in contain. I want to see more pressure on the QB, so if a safety blitz is needed, feel free to send a CB or safety. Take some notes on the Seahawks hybrid defensive scheme and copy them http://www.nfl.com/n...nfls-best-units Should Chan refuse to fire Wannstedt then promote Special Teams coach Bruce DeHaven to HC and Bob Sanders to DC, Curtis Modkins to run the offense. Tell Gailey / Modkins I want most of the same plays Gailey calls to be used, only limit the offensive plays to around 25 of the ones Fitz doesn't screw up and throw an INT in. Go thru all the offensive plays this season and find the passing plays Fitz has difficulty with and don't use them. Also, direct the OC to have a more balanced attack in almost equal running plays vs passing plays. No more shotgun empty backfield sets as Spiller and Jackson are to valuable to the offense to not be on the the field or in the backfield. Keep running the spread offense and shotgun as the defense allows, but utilize play action more often. Utilize Scott Chandler as more of a pass receiver even if it means using 2-3 TE's in passing plays. Instead of scouting I should be watching each game and breaking down film along with the coaches. If players are constantly screwing up, and or not being disciplined enough... then bench them. (Like Justin Rodgers) Look around on the waiver wire for replacements. There is a time for scouting and the regular NFL season is not it! This off season evaluate the staff, If Gailey has a losing record he is gone. If Sanders didn't improve the defense to at least top 15 he is demoted to LBers coach or gone. Hire a new DC / HC as needed. Bill Cowher is my first choice, SF DC Vic Fangio would be my second choice. a franchise QB, LB, #2 WR would be priorities in the draft and free agency, not 3 years from now either! 13-26 says Nix / Gailey .342 / Jauron 24-33 .421 / Tom Donahoe 31-48 .392 So both Jauron & Donahoe were better. Jauron and his Tampon 2, along with JP Losman & Trent Edwards at QB
  4. Tim Tebow has something Fitz and Tavaris Jackson don't have, a natural burning desire to win, and will accept nothing else. Tebow is a winner! The Jets are afraid to use him right now for fear they might hurt Mark Sanchez's vagina. I don't shiv two gits if the guy throws it backwards between his legs as long as he hits the receiver. Tebow even won a playoff game against the Steelers!! In 2011 He took over a 2-5 Denver team and went 7-4 getting them into the playoffs I highly doubt Nix is even awake at this time of year tho, or Wannstooge would have been fired already
  5. Another theory could be that Wannstedt could be purposely tanking the defense to get the HCing job... after all, Its so very difficult to believe someone with as much experience running a 4-3 could be this bad Remember guys this is the DC of the Dallas Cowboys that beat the Bills 2x in the super bowl. Perhaps without Jimmy Johnson at HC this man is a nothing. What he doesn't realize tho, is that after this season not only will he not have the HCing job, he will never be hired in the NFL again.
  6. I dunno, everything I read on luck had him as the next John Elway. Haven't read that much hype since the last John Elway. On Barkley: His understanding of the USC offense is greatly under-appreciated. While he's not quite Andrew Luck, when breaking down Barkley it is clear he does so many of the "little" things well, like rolling either to his left or right and consistently firing accurate passes on the move or freezing the safeties by looking one direction and passing the other.. Some will knock his size, "average" arm strength or the fact that he has never faced SEC competition. While Barkley is a touch shorter than scouts would prefer, I've had numerous sources who saw him in person at the Manning Passing Academy tell me he showed greater zip than expected, though I'd like to see him improve his accuracy on the deep ball. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1664140 NFLDRAFTSCOUT.com has Geno Smith as the #1 QB and Barkley going between #6 & # 12 ESPN also has Smith going before Barkley NFL.com Barkley entered the season as a potential top-five pick, but his stock has steadily declined due to questions about his height, athleticism and arm strength. Barkley simply lacks the blue-chip physical characteristics associated with most top draft choices, and I don't know if his superior football intellect can compensate for his deficiencies. Granted, other quarterbacks have been able to succeed without having the big arm or ideal physical dimensions, but most were not selected at the top of the first round. This will make it challenging for Barkley to retain a draft slot near the top. (Ben Liebenberg/NFL) http://www.nfl.com/photoessays/0ap1000000083979/top-20-college-players-at-midseason#photo=1 Barkley sounds like a newer version of Fitz...
  7. This team looks like it has more holes then it did 3 years ago. QB was an issue, LB was an issue, pass rush was an issue, all are still an issue. Now, 2nd top WR is now an issue, Safety is now an issue. The Bills are really missing Poz & Whitner, and need a Lee Evans. I never thought the defense could get worse then Jauron's Tampon 2, especially with a 100 million dollar DE...but it did! 3 drafts and no top LB, more importantly no franchise QB.
  8. Nolan just jumped from the Dolphins to the Falcons so I highly doubt he would take a step down to come to Buffalo Forget Nolan, Forget Wade Phillips after what RW did to him, even tho the thought of him as HC would help me forget the last lost decade. Forget Dom Capers as he is DC of the Packers, and like Nolan I don't see him taking a step down. Forget Dick LeBeau of the Steelers 70+ years old. Perhaps someone from Seattle (Gus Bradley) or Chicago.(Rod Marineli) The Bills need a winning coach with some serious ability, Vic Fangio current DC of the 49ers the #1 defense in the NFL last season and this season
  9. Dumped Poz and Whitner and the run defense went completely out the window, those two not looking so bad now, huh!
  10. The sad thing is Buddy Nix looks at the standings and says...Hey! we gotta chance. Which shows you how inept he really is...
  11. Good point, and true enough. Looking at it from a pure standings standpoint they have reasons to keep things the same regardless of how bad the defense has been. I suppose an eternal optimist could look at the standings and think 3-4 could easily become 12-4 should some miracles occur. NVM that the 227 points against is 2nd worst in the NFL second to only the Tennessee Titans (238) who just beat the Bills @ Buffalo. I realize the fans are pissed at the way the team has performed, (particularly on defense) and want to see a change BEFORE the season is lost as usually when an area starts out badly it doesn't improve. Just look at the last two years. Plus the fact that wannstooge refuses to blitz, refuses to change packages or run stunts and move the D linemen around looking for miss matches. While the FO thinks things can get better without making any changes. Clearly most fans don't see things getting better on their own and want to see change to save the season. I suppose I had better adjust my thoughts to strictly think about the up coming draft if there are no coaching changes made. http://www.footballoutsiders.com/any-given-sunday/2012/any-given-sunday-titans-over-bills
  12. When you hire someone / team new to paint your house and when you look to see how much they did the first few weeks... its horrifically bad. The worst paint job you have ever seen in the 50 years you have had your house painted! Now, do you give them some time to see if they can improve or let them finish the job? Should you let them finish and it remains a botch job your going to need to fire them anyway and hire someone else to repaint it. The logical choice in my view would be to fire them asap and then hire someone competent to finish the job. The Bills have a LB coach on the team who has had past experience as a DC, several years experience as a DC in fact, and could replace the worst DC this Buffalo Bills team has seen in its 50 year history. The Bills knew George Edwards was bad his first year, historically bad. Then gave him another year to prove it. Dave Wannstedt has already proven he is a worse DC then George Edwards. Don't forget Wannstedt was hired in 2011 to help Edwards run the defense, how did that turn out?
  13. Some fans just can't understand or comprehend just how bad the Bills defense has been so far this season The Titans have the worst ranked O line in the NFL, and the Bills only got 2 sacks(Kelsay 1- Kyle W.5- Kyle M.5). Plus a RB (CJ2k) that had only averaged 2.5 yards per carry against other teams this year averaged 10.8 against the Bills defense 18 rushes, 195 yards.... un freakin real. A different DC might also be able to light a fire under this defenses backside, get them to overachieve rather then just some lackluster play for a paycheck
  14. Naa, just frustrated a tad. This team could be winning with the talent they currently have on the roster! Old Buddy will be gone along with his good ole boy selection for a HC after this year if he doesn't take control of the situation like a real GM would do. Most GM's don't sit back and let the HC do whatever they want, especially one as mentally defensive limited as this current HC. George Edwards fielded the worst run defense in the history of the 50 year franchise in 2010 and then got another year to prove he was worthless. Dave Wannstedt was hired by Chan Gailey in 2011 to help Edwards run the defense and just look how that turned out for Edwards. Now we discover that Dave Wannstedt is even more ineffective then George Edwards ever was, and he has had 2 new pass rushers from free agency in DE Mark Anderson, the 100 million dollar Super DE Mario Williams. Along with a healthy DT Kyle Williams and the #1 draft pick in CB Stephen Gilmore.
  15. Are you even paying attention to YOUR team? The defensive situation is a mess, it all starts with Mr. I'm not blitzing, Dave Wannsfool FIRE the current DC, promote Bob Sanders and tell him to freaking BLITZ! Tell Chan Gailey YOU want to see a more balanced offensive attack, no more then 5 passes more then runs. If the RB's get 25 touches the QB better not have more then 30 attempts! You are after all the GM, are you not? Then TAKE CONTROL GDI, and tell the coaching staff to start winning or more heads will roll !! P.S. If you hesitate to fire Dave Wannstedt ...I cringe at the thought of what the Texans will do to the Buffalo Bills if they can beat the Ravens 43-13.
  16. Yea I agree BB, saw this coming weeks ago. Just thought that the Titans game would be an easy win tho. Hasselbeck threw a monkey wrench in that plan. You have to wonder if Buddy Nix is even paying attention to the season, the coaching staff, the NFL games....or is he to locked up in scouting to notice whats going on with his team. What gets me tho is this season is still salvageable IF the Bills fire wannstooge and promote a decent DC. Sit Fitz and start TJ even if only to light a fire under Fitz's arse. Then Gailey will need to call plays like he did against the Titans all year. Forget he even has a QB and just run Spiller and Jackson.
  17. Yea, on the field... but not in the coaches booth, and not on the sideline in terms of coaches. Think of what Marty S could do with the Bills RB's or what a coach like Sean Payton could do in finding the right QB. Fitz could very well be the guy, this HC is not teaching him how to win. Fitz stated when he first started working with QB coach David Lee that nobody up until that point had ever helped him with his mechanics or technique
  18. Yep, and at the end put it all back on Fitz's shoulders. I think he should have kept running it. JMO Gailey has been up to the Titans game one pass happy mofo. Its because of the way he ran the ball in that game that gives me hope. But if you look at the last 2 series by the Bills, shotgun run to FJ for 4 yards, shotgun pass, shotgun pass = INT. last series Shotgun pass, shotgun pass, shotgun pass, shotgun pass incomplete and turnover on downs. Kinda why I elected to keep Gailey for the rest of the year but voted to fire the DC.
  19. I'd be more worried about the RB's If Wilson was willing to spend 100 million on super Mario he just might be persuaded to open up his wallet for Bill Cowher. Just thinking of that old Steeler running game and stout defense has me thinking that along with a new top rookie QB the Bills could finally get a winning season
  20. Did you actually read my first paragraph or just skim over the post and make assumptions? I said: Gailey has a history of calling mostly 4-5 WR shotgun spread sets and forcing the QB to carry the game. This week against the Titans was different for the most part, He called more running plays, except when the game was on the line he reverted back to his pass happy form. Fred Jackson was averaging 7.8 YPC against the Titans, 9 rushes for 71 yards. Both Spiller and Jackson should have gotten more touches running the ball IMO.
  21. Yea, thats what most said about ex Bill DC George Edwards, but new DC Dave Wannstedt is much worse. Even if the Bills make a change at QB it isn't going to fix the defense, which I think most feel is by far the biggest current problem with the team. The Bills scored 34 points and the QB threw for 225 yards, and 3TD's, one INT against the Titans. Which is usually enough points to win in the NFL. but not if your defense gives up 195 yards rushing to a RB who had only been getting 2.9 YPC against other teams. Remember that Seahawks HC Pete Carrol traded away Jackson for a reason. Carrol put Matt Flynn, and Russell Wilson ahead of the 4 million dollar a year TJ, and they paid Matt Flynn 10 million, and are starting Wilson. Anyway, suppose that the Bills do make a change at QB, and start Tavaris Jackson. Then he even plays well, remember that Chan Gailey is going to force the guy to shoulder the games and make the QB win them which is something that Jackson has had trouble with at crunch time. Although Jackson's record with Minnesota and Seattle as a starter was 17-17 in Minn & 7-7 in Seattle. The reason the Seahawks and Vikings gave up on Jackson were his crunch time numbers. Numerous fumbles and INT's all when the game was on the line.
  22. I like Chan Gailey, and after watching the game against the Titans I realize if given a different priority he might just win more games. Gailey did call a much better game this week. He set up some excellent plays, and for the most part all the players did very well on the offensive side. Chan simply doesn't utilize his RB's in the running game enough or his TE in pass catching enough, and when the chips are on the table at the end of the game he reverted to mostly calling pass plays. The problems with this current team are twofold, defense and pass priority. First, the defense has more talent then they are showing on the field. This current DC doesn't blitz at all, and wants only his front 4 to bring pressure. This might have worked 20 years ago, but its not working now. I'd have to say that Gailey's first choice at DC was very bad in trying to switch to a 3-4 without the proper personnel. Now the team added some talent in a 1st round pick at CB, a 100 million dollar DE FA, a healthy Kyle Williams. Yet the defense is playing worse this year with a very experienced 4-3 DC running the show. Second, the Bills have Ryan Fitzpatrick at QB, not Drew Brees, not Tom Brady. Yet Chan Gailey calls pass plays like he has a super star elite QB behind center. The Bills have a backup QB with a losing record starting. The HC needs to realize this and build a game plan around his 2 super star RB's in Spiller and Jackson. A good HC would realize he is not going to win games by putting the game on the shoulders of a QB like Fitz. However, he can win games by letting his star RB's run wild. JMHO Clearly Chan Gailey can do whatever he wants with the team, and this GM doesn't care how Gailey runs the offense or defense. Does something need to change during the bye week or not... Let the status quo stay the same and perhaps win only 5 games total this season, by getting a good setup for great draft position for next year. Then fire everyone after the season? Then promote Whaley to GM, and actually pay that 10 million to Cowher or someone else? Have Nix instruct Gailey to run the ball more and just fire the DC? What do you think?
  23. .... .... Its hard to win in the NFL....err, its hard to fire a friend in the NFL
  24. 34 points would be enough to win against most teams, but not when you give up 7.3 avg yards per rush against a bad team where the star RB had a previous 2.3 YPR. 195 yards to CJ2k All you will see with TJ is primarily a sack fest, and when the game is on the line Tavaris Jackson is one of the biggest screwups in the NFL. Even worse then Fitz. but hey. the grass is always greener.
  25. At this point the HC was doing his best to win, he just keeps reverting to his desire to call shotgun passing plays when the chips are down. Gailey gambled his future on a backup QB, and decided a rookie wouldn't get it done. Nix wants to win as his job is on the line also. i think Tom Donahoe was fired for less wins 31-48, after 4 years. Donahoe was better...Levy / Jauron was better. Gailey has his head up his keester because he doesn't know how to tell a proper DC from his butthole.
