Jason Cole rips Wanny on Howard Simon show
thewildrabbit replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This has been the primary problem with the team for the past 3 years. Every game Chan comes out passing like he has Tom Brady behind center instead of a backup who has never been a winner. Fitz could get the job done if supported by a power running game to build his confidence like the 49ers / Ravens et al. I honestly have a difficult time believing that Dave Wannstedt could field a defense this bad with the talent he has on the roster. This defense should be kicking arse instead of taking it in the arse just about every stinking game. This regime has me longing for the 7-9 Jauron seasons. Better talent then Jauron had and yet a worse record....unbelievably bad defense -

Just look at the last 3 years of drafts. The players they let walk. The free agents signed and how they are performing. Buddy Nix is nothing more then a glorified scout, and some of his choices have been very questionable. So many defensive players drafted and yet the worst defense in the league. Chan Gailey would make a great OC if guided by someone like Jeff Fisher-Tom Coughlin who would direct him to run the ball more instead of trying to force a backup QB to try and win games. Both those men wouldn't settle for Fitz as the starter, not performing like he has been at times this year. Look at the Titans game. All they needed was a field goal to win and had the ball on their own 20 with a 1:03 to go. With almost any good QB against that crappy Titan defense this would have been a win. Instead it was 4 passes and a turnover on downs. The Bills didn't even make a first down. All the Bills had to do was drive down the field 60 yards, and the couldn't even get a first down. It was ugly, and sad. the first pass underneath for 6 yards, the 2nd pass underneath for 2 yards, next two passes incomplete. WTF It looked like Trent Edwards behind center. Where were the runs? Fred Jackson getting almost 8 yards per carry and the Titans defense laying back in dime coverage...Fitz choked...Gailey choked. Both losers! A good head coach wouldn't have allowed that. Its time for some changes! -
You are simply making excuses for Buddy Nix / Chan Gailey and this regime. I'm not sure why either because at 13-26 this might be the worst GM / HC in franchise history. Even the 2-14 1984-85 Buffalo Bills never fielded a defense as bad as the current one. Considering the majority of the last 3 drafts have been for the defensive side. The Bills never even made an attempt at Manning or any rookie QB (besides 2010 7th round Brown) the last 3 years, thus furthering my point. A point was, if Nix is so astute at recognizing QB talent, then why didn't he even make an attempt at Andy Dalton, Russell Wilson, Ryan Tannehill? All three teams have a better record then the Bills, and 2 of them are rookies!! Plus any or all 3 could develop into an elite QB, you don't know. All I know is they are winning. Another point here is Nix isn't very astute at recognizing any talent, much less the QB position. The ONLY QB I know they would have taken the last 3 years was Cam Newton, and how is he doing in his second year? How are the drafts and free agent signings the last 3 years and how is that equating to wins? 100 Million to Mr invisible.

Like you pointed out, the Bills let some good players leave and tried to replace them with inferior, albeit cheaper players! The Bills had some good LBers, they chose to let them walk and bring in free agent / draft bums. Paying 100 million to a guy that has been invisible for the most part. Nobody here is stating Ralph has necessarily been cheap in paying players, its a matter of being smart with the money. Looking at the how the current defense is performing I'd say his money is not well spent. I can for certain say that RW is sure as heck is the stingiest bastage on the face of the earth when it comes to paying head coaches, and GM's just look who he hired for the last 12 years. Like I stated earlier, after the Jauron firing the FO told the media that they would be willing to spend 10 million to hire the right head coach. Well that for sure didn't happen, and I can only conclude that 10 million was NEVER offered. Trust me, nothing even close to10 mill was ever offered as it would have gotten either Mike Shanahan and Bill Cowher as HC in Buffalo. I read somewhere Chan Gailey is making peanuts compared to his peers, just the way Ralph Wilson likes it. Bill Belichick $7.5 million Mike Shanahan $7 million Doc Rivers $7 million Jeff Fisher $7 million Pete Carroll $7 million Gregg Popovich $6 million Lovie Smith $6 million Ken Whisenhunt $5.8 million Mike Tomlin $5.8 million Andy Reid $5.5 million http://espn.go.com/blog/playbook/dollars/post/_/id/719/bill-belichick-highest-paid-coach-again -

Thanks, i was going to respond and you saved me the trouble. I suppose some fans simply want to delude themselves from whats really happening -
That is an easy excuse as they haven't even tried to draft a QB to develop. The only QB this regime has drafted was a 7th rounder in 2010, Levi Brown. They haven't even tried to make an effort to bring in a top free agent QB. You are right tho, just look at the last 3 drafts, they don't know what it takes. I say the real reason is this regime wouldn't know a top rookie QB even if he came up and kicked them in their collective arses. Jake Locker- Christen Ponder- Andy Dalton-Blane Gabbert- RG3- Brandon Weeden- Ryan Tannehill- Russell Wilson all 8 QB's starting and the bolded are doing well. Not even going to list Matthew Stafford ( meant Sam Bradford) or Cam Newton, and Andrew Luck. How did Buddy Nix miss on Andy Dalton, Russell Wilson? If he actually knew what he was doing he could have traded up for Ryan Tannehill . But then I suppose its better to have a another 1st round DB on the worst defense in the NFL.

At this point Bill Cowher might be about the only man who could probably save this drowning franchise. The big problem is this owner doesn't see things the same way the fans do. He is perfectly content as long as his stadium is filled and he is making a profit. That last point wasn't mine, it was from the 2010 Peter King article I quoted. Tho you are right, 13-26 sucks, and proves he is a loser. yep, it certainly is depressing reading it. I have that tagline so fans will remember just how bad this years team really is. Most fans delude themselves into thinking the Bills will win the next game or its not so bad. Bills fans have been so hammered the last 12 years that they quickly forget what actually happened during the season. That the head coach is totally clueless about what to do. That DB (Bills fans) mentality only works well for DB's in games -
You guys can think what you want about how brilliant so called megamind Chan Gailey is... The facts are Gailey has had some of the best RB's in the league for 3 years and yet he continuously tries to force a back up QB to carry the team. The Titans game Gailey finally gave more touches to Spiller and Jackson throughout the game and yet he reverted back to his old pass happy self in the last series. Fitz will NEVER be an elite QB, and yet Gailey call plays like he is. It has taken 3 years to build a decent O line, and yet they can't stay healthy, the depth is also questionable. The Bills still haven't drafted the franchise QB because they have been busy drafting defensive players so they can have the worst defense in the league. 100 million to a DE that is wasted because neither the DC nor the HC know how to run a 4-3. Read what Peter King had to say about his hire here... http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/writers/peter_king/01/19/mailbag/index.html Last point: I can guarantee you one of the things that the Bills loved was Gailey's attitude about how you can win without stars in the NFL. In fact, that's the kind of team he prefers. More than once in his career, he's told coaches he worked with: "You can win the World Series without Babe Ruth.'' In Buffalo, he's going to get that chance. Which is a complete and utter horsecrap statement to make as its the stars that make the league. But I now can see why he has stuck with Fitz after reading that paragraph. You need an elite franchise QB to win, top offensive & defensive players, and great coaching...Is it any wonder why the Bills aren't winning

You are kidding right? Tell me that Drew Brees is a bad QB? Look at the NO Saints this year, putting up 25+ pts almost every game and still losing because they just might have a worse defense then the Buffalo Bills this year. The QB can effect the defense somewhat, but not to the extent you are making out of it. Loss 40-32, 339 yards passing Loss 35-27, 325 yards passing Loss 27-24, 240 yards passing Loss 28-27, 446 yards passing win 31-24, 370 yards passing win 35-28, 377 yards passing Loss 34-14, 213 yards passing What this shows is sometimes you can have a great QB that throws a ton,and that doesn't always equate to wins! The Bills are losing because they have a bad coaching staff. Yea, they could use a better QB, but like shown above even Drew Brees can't do it all by himself. Trust me, this years Bills defense is the worst defense this franchise has ever fielded. All because of a bad defensive coordinator. http://audio.wgr550....d-as-of-now.htm -

After Wilson fired Jauron there was big smack talk coming from somewhere in OBD that the team was willing to pay 10 million a year for a top coach. This is the sole reason the Buffalo Bills managed to even get Shanahan & Cowher to interview with the Buffalo Bills for the head coaching job. Both men left without a contract and the Bills end up hiring the man Bill Cowher stated he would hire as his OC. Now between you and me I'm 100% positive that the powers in the FO / RW low balled (money wise) those two coaches that could have really improved the team. Gailey came soooo much cheaper then 10 mill, so did Nix for that matter. Then look at who is still the president of the Buffalo Bills. The Baltimore Ravens have Ozzie Newsome as president (who learned under Bill Belichick) The Indy Colts had Bill Polian as president. The Bills are in even worse shape then the Dallas Cowboys because Ralph Wilson is president and he sits in his home in Detroit and sees nothing for himself, at least JJ is there in person to watch practices, participate in player meetings and is a real hands on owner. BTW how is that working out for JJ vs the Ravens? Now, the question is....is this owner finally ready to pony up the dough to hire Bill Cowher after this season? Or will they stay with the status quo and draft a rookie QB to keep the stadium filled? I gotta admit the Buffalo Bills have one of the very best marketing machines in the world to keep the stadium filled year after year with such a poor product on the field. I suppose it does help to have all that fear that the team will relocate if the fans stop buying tickets hanging over their heads. I find it truly remarkable that so many devoted Bills fans keep buying tickets to an inferior product ...even in a deep recession. It really is a darn shame that devotion hasn't been reciprocated enough to hire a top head coach like Cowher Oh well, guess we will just have to wait for the inevitable to happen and the team changes ownership. I can only hope the team stays in Buffalo, and we get an owner who doesn't depend on the team for his income P.S. Last point: I can guarantee you one of the things that the Bills loved was Gailey's attitude about how you can win without stars in the NFL. In fact, that's the kind of team he prefers. Marv was very hands on, particularly with the special teams. A big reason why the Bills special teams was so good. He also had input into the offense. If you notice the Bills started out in 1986 with Jim Ringo as the Bills OC (1985-1988) who was the OC under Hank Bullough. Ringo stayed with the team from 86-87-88. Now under Bullough / Ringo in 86 the Bills threw more then they ran 499-419. After Bullough was fired and Levy took over the team in 87 they went 516-465 pass vs run. Then in 88 with the addition of Thurman Thomas the Bills went 454-528 pass vs run they finished at 12-4 with Jim Ringo as the OC. After the 88 season Jim Ringo retired and Marv hired ex Colt HC Ted Marchibroda in 89! This was a pure balls move IMO because Marv had wherewithal to hire someone more knowledgeable then himself about the offense, and perhaps even running the entire team. Under Marchibroda Jim Kelly learned to call his own plays, the Bills refined the K-gun and no huddle to an art form while rolling up some of the best offensive numbers the NFL had ever seen. I was in attendance at the 1988 AFC Championship game in Cincy where the Bills first started using the "no huddle" offense against the same team that started it all. It was Marv's idea to use the no huddle which Jim Kelly and Co. would make famous in later years. I don't suppose anyone else remembers the Bills driving late in the game into Bengal territory and suddenly the game clock went out. So the refs kept the time on the field. Great way for the Cincy fans to screw with Buffalo's ability to run the no huddle. Anyway, don't compare an utter craphead Chan Gailey (13-26) to HoF HC Marv levy 112-70 while with Buffalo, and 11-8 in the playoffs. Marv was a supreme motivator, offense, defense and special teams...just ask his ex players P.S. Chan Gailey has the RB's to build a dominate running team into a winner! Instead its just a shame the last 3 years all Gailey has wanted to do was try and magically transform a backup QB into Tom Brady. Then running 4-5 WR spread shotgun empty backfield sets with only one decent WR on the field -

For over a decade everyone is complaining about the talent on the roster, yet the team changes coaches, GM's and still keeps losing. Its not the players, its the coaches, the schemes, the GM. The Bills continue to hire cheap cast offs that no other team would even consider hiring, then this team promotes them and gives them a bunch of money C'mon guys, Gailey was fired as OC at KC so suddenly he is head coaching material? Buddy Nix retires as chief scout so suddenly he is GM material? You get what you pay for in this life! Think about one point for a sec, gailey / nix came in 2010 and changed 8 nobody's on the roster from the Jauron era and yet the team went 4-12., it got worse Jauron at least got them to 7-9 for 3 years So far Gailey is much worse then Jauron. This failure will not stop until the fans make a stand and say they are not going to buy into a sub par product....then the Bills draft a rookie QB and the stands are filled again ( RW laughing all the way to the bank) -
The thing is...Vick started to look great as a pocket passer his first year in Philly, and he was getting the ball down field A LOT! Then he started taking a beating trying to throw all those 5-7 step drop back passes, and everyone knows he is going to pass. Great point, and probably the biggest reason this HC didn't want a rookie QB behind center the last 3 years. I can't see any QB lasting behind that line until they fix the RT-RG positions. Hairston might be the solution at RT Yea I agree! Somewhere along the line Reid forgets to run the ball effectively to set up the pass. He did the same thing with McNabb, and he is killing his QB's in the process. The whole entire idea behind the WCO is to dink and dunk until the LB's / DB's move up and then throw over them. While Reid just wants to air it out deep every play now. If your not gonna D&D then you need to run the ball.
-
Andy Reid has become a passing fool (kinda like someone else we all know) and he forgets that he should be protecting Vick with a strong running attack. If Reid and OC Marty Mornhinweg had Vick hand off to LeSean McCoy 25 times and set it up for him to catch another 10 passes then the Eagles would win. Instead they continuously Hang the entire game on Vick and thus set him up to hang out to dry game after game. Vick continues to take a beat down week after week, he needs to sit so Reid can see his mistake. But hey, this same stuff was happening with another team & QB we all know up until last week. Then during the last series the HC / OC reverted back to his old self and called nothing but 4 pass plays

Change is coming somewhere in the NFL
thewildrabbit replied to thewildrabbit's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
yea, that 2-14 team managed to draft Andrew Luck...who is rated to be the next Manning, Brady, Brees type who is a future HoFer ...I think he had a plan! In my view Polian is a pro football genius in every sense of that word. I just highly doubt he end up in Buffalo ever again. I recall him needing to fight with Littmann just to sign normal free agents, then he needed to fight with the owner to get stadium improvements (big screen & sound system) and to sign star players and star free agents. Polian no longer needed to fight with anyone once he was in Carolina or Indy. I also highly doubt Ralph Wilson would step down as president or pay Polian what he would need to in order to hire him as president. Bottom line, if there is one sole person in the NFL that could rebuild the Buffalo Bills into a contender again it would be Bill Polian without question. It won't happen tho...unless the team is sold before this season ends. -

Jeez, really? The man built winners in Buffalo, Carolina, and Indy! Not just playoff teams, but super bowl teams. It would be nice to see the bills field a winning team once again. (Peyton Manning sure fire future HoF QB among others on the Colts) ( Kelly, Levy, TThomas, Bruce Smith all in the HoF) Really, not that good? Really, Scott Poili -

Yep The question was poised do you expect any more moves this off season, the response ....La Canfora stated after based on talks with many NFL exec's and GM's that sweeping changes are coming. NFN, Bill Polian was the Colts "president" and his son was the GM, so I don't see Polian taking a job as GM again. I mean why should he take a lower job, he proved his worth. So don't forget who the current Buffalo Bills president is.... Wilson did step aside for Tom Donahoe tho -
Jason La Canfora on the NFL today stating "Sweeping changes coming across the league". Its already started in Carolina as they fired their GM and hired a consulting firm to find a new GM. Their first choice as HC might be Denver OC Mike McCoy who did wonders with Tim Tebow, and now Peyton Manning The coach and GM in trouble on many teams, Carolina, Cleveland, Buffalo, San Diego, Jacksonville, Kansas City. Long time executive Bill Polian is looking to get back into the league in 2013 as is ex GM Michael Lombardi, and so is ex Bears GM Jerry Angelo.

A Few Scattered Thoughts, on a bye week.....
thewildrabbit replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is what happens when you hire sub par people, and that is what this franchise has done for over a decade. Its so difficult for me to understand why fans buy* into an inferior product year after year, but they do. Nothing will ever improve until the team is sold. -
Buffalo Is Going To Beat Houston
thewildrabbit replied to BuffaloBaumer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The sad thing is, with the right coaches this team of players might stand a chance. Unfortunately, Dave Wannstooge is still the DC, and Gailey still loves him some Fitz Arian Foster and Ben Tate should have career days in rushing yardage followed up by that Wade Phillips defense owning the Bills offense. The #2 RB in the league against the worst run defense in the league. Even the fact that the Texans could overlook the Bills isn't going to help. -
What Pisses Me Off About Bills "Fans"
thewildrabbit replied to Hater's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was a Rams fan when Knox was HC, then a Bills fan when he became the Bills HC. Went to all the Bills super bowls, and have cheered for them since the 70's....what a blunder to root for a team owned by Ralph Wilson. A man who only cares about filling the stadium so he can make a profit. Bill Polian was the aberration and not the norm. I'm hoping that when the old skinflint passes some New Yorker buys the team, keeps them in Buffalo and they build that huge stadium in downtown Buffalo thus keeping the team in Buffalo forever. The new ownership spends the money to hire a top HC and GM, then the team wins a SB. Nobody will remember Wilson, except for when they see his bust in canton. You know, the one he paid a few million for to get himself inducted. EDIT for P.S. What the boobs in LA & the NFL FO don't realize is that there have been several teams in LA and that city just doesn't give a crap if there is a team there or not. 2nd Largest city in the US with almost 4 mill peeps, and Al Davis tried to fill the 100k seat coliseum and couldn't do it, so he moved back to Oakland. There is just to much to do in and around LA to support a team unless they are in the playoffs every year -
why is another teams backup garbage QB always thought to be better then the current QB... Changing the QB isn't going to fix the defense, which is the big problem with the team. Do I gotta remind everyone, last in the NFL against the run and 31st in total defense
-
If anything this game showed that a mediocre defense (TB ranked 25th )can win by blitzing and putting constant pressure on the opposing QB. Something the Bills DC dave wannstooge fails to comprehend
-
Why is it that Fitz gets all blame?
thewildrabbit replied to UticaBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The reason is the QB is always the focal point of any team as most just watch the QB. The reality is that last weeks game could have been won by a competent QB. The Bills got the ball back with 1:03 to go and start from their 20, all they need is a FG as the game is 34-35. First pass for 6 yards to FJ and he fails to go out of bounds, clock ticking 44 seconds. next play pass complete underneath for 2 yards. 3rd down & 2 with 33 seconds. Pass incomplete over the head of Chandler on a deflection. 4th down 31 seconds left, Fitz throws it away in the face of a blitz I mean WTF! why throw to the outlet RB and he doesn't get out of bounds. Passes should all be to the sideline and NOT over the middle unless its a deep wide open receiver. That whole series scenario was a clusterfuk of stupidity! I look at this and have to think bad coaching as this entire series was just bad play all around. The Bills couldn't even make a first down when the Titan are dropping into coverage! Couldn't complete a pass to the player close enough on the sideline to step out to save time. Its like numbskull's are running this team.
