They're Using Spiller Correctly...
thewildrabbit replied to The Voice of Truth's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Against the 5th ranked Miami rush defense...the less Ryan Fitzpatrick throws the more chances the Bills have to actually win a game. The end of the Miami game the Bills ran it 3 times and didn't get a first down, But they also didn't throw an INT like they did last week. I'm done arguing this point as Spiller himself proved he can handle the load, 22 rushes 91 yards against a top 5 run defense. The head coach himself stated both backs should get 30-40 touches a game! What don't some of you get about that statement? The HC even acknowledged that he should give Spiller more touches. When the Bills don't go pass happy all game they tend to win. -
Chan should be shown the door

Carries? against the 5th ranked defense against the run? 25 touches I'm ok with, just don't think its gonna be smart to try and pound it on the Dolphins when they have the 26 ranked pass defense. In this one instance Gailey will look good having Fitz throw. Unless that Dolphin pass rush gets to him. -

I don't have inside Info on either players bodies as I've not seen either player naked so I can't attest to their bodies types. I know some players look thicker because of the types of pads / padding they wear. I do know that Spiller ran a 4.27-4.37 which is lightning fast. I think Thurman was 4.4 or something. Barry Sanders 5'8' 203 4.37...Emmitt Smith 5'9'', 210 4.49. Anyway, they all look like they have about the same build to me. If anything I think Spiller has been under utilized so far in his career. From what I've read from statements made by Spiller he has stated he is quietly waiting for his chance to start full time. Even he wants more touches! -
The Bills still wouldn't have beaten the 49ers or Texans, not with 3 pts & 9 pts on offense or would they? Perhaps with a top 10 defense the bills would get more turnovers and score with those turnovers. The score might have been 3 to 0 and 9-6, who really knows. The way Gailey runs his offense like he has Tom Brady or Drew Brees behind center doesn't really complement the actual talent on the team. The best talent is at the RB position, not WR, not QB. The Bills would be much better suited to build a team like the 49ers,Ravens, Texans and just have Fitz throw to manage the game instead of forcing him to try and win by passing. Chan Gailey is the intangible that we can't count on to make the team win with a better defense as he will always be pass happy with an average QB. JMHO

CJ Spiller Height 5'11 weight 200 Thurman Thomas 13 seasons, 182 games played, 12,074 yards career rushing, 4458 yards receiving...Height 5'10" weight 199 Thurman in his heyday was 75% of the Bills offense, and the Bills ran more then they threw most years 88, 89, 90, 92, 93. almost 300 carries every year, and 50+ receptions CJ2k 5'11'' 191 Jamaal Charles 5'11 199 -

There is no doubt Choice will get his touches with Fred Jackson out, almost the same way that Jackson and Spiller complemented each other. Although, I will expect Spiller to be the feature back in this game and get the majority of the touches. Hopefully along the lines of something like 25 touches to the tune of 15+ rushes 5-10 receptions. Depending of course on how he holds up against a decent Dolphin defense against the run. Miami is ranked 5th in the NFL against the run so it could be a very tough outing for both Choice and Spiller. Meanwhile the Dolphins suck worse then the Bills in pass defense like 26th for Miami vs 20th for Buffalo. The one constant about Chan Gailey has is you can always count on him to be pass happy in every game, and considering the Dolphins defense against the pass I don't see that changing this game. I suppose how Fitz and the O line holds up against a decent Dolphin pass rush should be very telling as to how good the Bills line genuinely is as the phins did sack the Cards Kevin Kolb 8 times. welcome Yeah there is no question that Spiller is the bigger play maker at this point, and you want the ball in the best players hands. -
Fitz is a tough as nails guy, no question. He played with broken ribs last year when he should have been sitting. Unfortunately the Bills don't have a very good back up so Gailey kept him starting The thing is, Gailey should have never put a rookie WR is that situation with the game on the line Fitz could do better if he had an OC who would rein him in rather then let him go. First off, TJ Graham as the primary WR on the play was just wrong as he is a rookie. Second, Stevie Johnson also mentioned that even he thought is was a mistake to put a rookie in that situation. Particularly someone who had never run that play in practice. "So it's no blame on T.J. at all, because he's never run that route in practice http://espn.go.com/n...-loss-patriotse Yea, gotta love the guy, even when he screams like a little girl...

Thursday Game will dictate the rest of our season

Yes, but the owner called Gailey and let him know he wasn't happy with the losing...after Nix gave him a 2 year endorsement. Who is to say Nix is safe? Yea, Wannstedt should already have been gone at the bye week Most Bills fans just can't grasp how bad the defense is... they are not just 31st or worst in the NFL against the run, which they are. This years defense with supposed better players and a healthy Kyle Williams has already set NFL records for being bad. Dick Jauron or George Edwards at least they had excuses for a lousy defense as they had so many injuries year after year. This is not really the case with Wannstedt, he is simply the worst ever DC in the entire history of the franchise -
Off your subject I know, just making a point here. He might be a top 10 QB in Houston where they have a dominate run game to set up the pass, just like with Joe Flacco, Alex Smith. Those 3 would get killed on a different team, any one that passes first or tries to force the QB to shoulder the game by himself. AKA the Eagles, the Bills Chan Gailey has been slowly giving his RB's more touches week after week, and perhaps by the end of the season they both might finally be getting the 40 touches Gailey stated they should get. Anyway, I think fans here will crap when they see a different QB try and run Chan Gaileys offense the way it is currently run, utter failure will ensue. Even if this regime drafts a rookie I don't see him starting for quite awhile....like a few years.

Its that want you got from that post? ... Apparently you missed the part about the 25th passing offense vs the 6th rushing offense, I'd much rather see the ball in the hands of the two super star RB's the majority of the game then a guy who can be horribly inaccurate at times and does throw that game losing INT now and then. If we can let them touch it between 30 and 40 times a game, I think that’s pretty good for us.” per Chan Gailey http://www.buffalonews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20121024/SPORTS/121029603/1004 READ THIS! http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1403731-cj-spiller-needs-more-touches-for-bills-to-upset-patriots-in-week-10 AND THIS. http://blogs.thescore.com/nfl/2012/11/12/chain-links-c-j-spiller-played-in-less-than-half-of-the-bills-offensive-snaps-yesterday/ With freakish lateral agility and instant acceleration reminiscent of an early-career CJ2K, Spiller is threatening to break Pro Football Focus’ Elusiveness scale. He leads the NFL with an absurd 7.2 YPC average and 4.3 yards after contact per attempt, capable of taking every touch to the house. Since Week 13 of last season (a 13-game stretch), Spiller has 953 rushing yards at a league-leading 6.6 YPC to go with 408 receiving yards on 45 receptions. http://www.rotoworld.com/articles/nfl/41854/57/week-10-rankings Only Bills fans would think Spiller is being used smartly, Its the rest of the world thats wrong -

thewildrabbit replied to The Voice of Truth's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I disagree, as do most fans posting in this forum that I've read. CJ is leading the league in YPC avg and the fact he only gets 9 carries is totally wrong. Look at the stats, the Bills have the 25th ranked passing offense and 6th ranked rushing offense. Letting Fitz throw 40+ times a game is why they LOSE!! The KC game in which they won 36 rushes for 201 yards and 2 TD's. Fitz 10 of 19 for 178 2 TD's. Spiller was the feature back in this game 15 attempts 123 yards, 2 TD's The Browns game in which they won 34 rushes for 138 yards, Fitz 22 of 35 for 208, 3 TD's Choice was the feature back, 20 carries 91 yards. Spiller left with a shoulder injury. The Arizona Game in which they won 33 rushes for 165 yards 2 TD's Fred Jackson was the feature back 16 for 53, 1 TD. Spiller 12 for 88 1 TD. Against the Jets 26 rushes, the Patriots 27 rushes, 49ers 19 rushes, Titans 24 rushes, Texans 15 rushes, Patriots 28 rushes. Which shows that when the Bills rush more then 30 times a game they win. They key to winning here is running more (6th ranked) and Fitz throwing less (25th ranked) Complete and utter horse poop! Spiller has been the feature back in games both this year and last year, and it didn't diminish his ability to make big plays, in fact the opposite is true and it gives him more opportunities to make plays. in 2011 Spiller played in 16 games, had 11 game starts and averaged 5.2 YPC. Which is pretty darn good. To put that in perspective only Jim Brown and Barry Sanders averaged over 5.0 yards per carry in their careers. Chan Gailey is just a moron for being pass happy and letting Fitz throw more then he uses his RB's or for starting Fred Jackson over Spiller. IMO the entire reason the bills are such losers is because Gailey wants Fitz to carry the games by throwing 30- 40+ times when he should be running the ball more to the tune of 35 carries. Spiller is the biggest play maker on the team and should be getting between 20-25 touches a game, every game! The mere fact that Chan Gailey himself stated both RB's should be getting 40 touches a games refutes the OP point of this thread. -

If you re-watch that play it took only 3 seconds from the snap until Fitz threw it. That play happened very quickly, 3 sec is not a lot of time to look off the defense or wait for receivers to break open. From the snap Fitz is looking right side, then Fitz did look to the left, and saw CJ & SJ covered. At the time he saw the primary WR heading in the right direction and let it go. If he had waited another second he would have seen the Safety and CB both went after SJ which left CJ basically wide open underneath. But too late the pass was already thrown. TJ Graham ran the wrong route, rookie mistake that cost them the game. Not really Fitz's fault either. If anyone is to blame it is Gailey for that particular pass play even being used. First I have a problem with TJ (a rookie) as the primary on a critical play like that. Second, I'm not a big fan of pass plays that require a WR to be at a particular spot to catch the ball ...because crap like that happens! This is Chan Gaileys offense that everybody loves, it has flaws! EDIT: Even SJ didn't like TJ as the primary on a play he never ran in practice http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/blog/nfl-rapidreports/20969112/bills-wr-stevie-johnson-questions-critical-decision . . -

*Fixed* The Patriots played a trap game against the bills in that the worst team played the best team and at times the best team doesn't come to play their best. Brady threw some balls at the beginning that should have been intercepted, they weren't. Such is the fact when you have the 31st ranked defense in the league, they are going to suck! BTW, the Bills moved the ball well enough all game, but don't forget the Patriots have the 25th ranked defense The Bills with Fitz getting 40 attempts ( Bills 25th ranked passing game) and Spiller (who leads the league in YPC avg) getting 9 carries is ludicrous as the Bills have the 6 ranked rushing offense. Freddy Jackson got his touches but Spiller should have gotten way more rushing and receiving. Let me ask a question? When Gailey does his 5 WR empty backfield set, who else besides Stevie Johnson and Donald Jones is more valuable the Spiller / Jackson on the field. Oh Oh, let me answer...NOBODY! Gailey in running the ball more 1). would put the ball in the best players on the teams hands, 2) control the clock and give the bills the time on the field advantage, 3) thus keeping the Bills defense fresher, and off the field 4) also keeping the ball away from Tom Brady and the #1 offense in the league. Want someone to blame for the loss? 5 WR empty backfield set. Why Is rookie WR TJ Graham even in the end zone as the primary receiver? Gailey & Fitz got greedy and went for the quick TD when he had Spiller WIDE OPEN at the 12 for a sure first down and possible TD. Fitz had time to throw, but he threw in 3 seconds, and he focused on the primary, it cost them the game. It doesn't matter if the rookie ran the wrong route, why is he the primary in such a critical situation? Bottom line: It sucks to lose a game like that, a game the Bills could have easily won.... losers lose and winners find a way to pull out a win. -
The team is not out of Playoff Hunt

Gotta love Bills fans eternal optimism, never lose it. Currently 3-6 but ending with 9-6, a wild card spot... I'll drink to that -
That bolded part, not according to some. They think this team can run the table and finish 9-6, apparently they haven't been watching the Bills defense set NFL records for being bad. currently ranked 31st Clearly so many fans think Gailey is a successful OC / HC because he can put up points on the 25th ranked Patriots defense, yet he fails to win games. Lets see, what game did the Bills win so far the 1-7 Chiefs, the 2-7 Browns, the 4-5 Cards. They only won that Cardinals game by sheer luck, Arizona has the worst O line in the NFL and the Bills managed to knock out the starting QB. Gailey is responsible for the ENTIRE team and not just the offense. Everyone already forgetting the bad play calls against the Texans or the inability to run the 2 min drill against the Titans and their 29th ranked defense! To the fans comparing Gailey to Kubiak, please don't. they aren't anything alike because Kubiak is run first coach. and Gailey is pass happy. Plus Gailey isn't going to hire Wade Phillips. Look at the last two bozo's he hired to run the defense. The man doesn't know a good DC from his arse. 13-28, .325% in 3 years. Jeez, aren't you people sick of this constant losing?

thewildrabbit replied to The Voice of Truth's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Chan Gailey admitted both Jackson and Spiller should be getting 20 touches a game each, he stated they should be getting 40 touches. So Gailey himself acknowledged he hasn't utilized either back most games to maximum effectiveness! C'mon 9 carries for Spiller against the Patriots and giving Fitz 40 attempts is blatantly wrong. Jackson did get his 20 touches but when Spiller is leading the NFL in yards per carry its just stupid not to have him touch the ball more.Whats crazy is Gailey knows what to do and yet can't bring himself to stop calling empty backfield 4-5 WR set passing plays. Besides Johnson and Jones wtf is worth taking Jackson and Spiller off the field for?.... NOBODY! Even Fitz called for Spiller to get more touches. This game against Miami they will have no choice but to make Spiller the feature back. -
I know who he is, was just commenting he is such a scub it doesn't matter, and couldn't recall his name
-
Yea, and if you listened to the announcers Cutler plays like that game after game and gets better as the game goes on. Also, If you watched the Bears this season you would know this. No doubt Cutler would have won that game for the Bears in the 4th QTR. Without him they are useless, I can't even remember the back up QB's name.
