Yea, he is only averaging 7.4 YPC.... keep him on the bench in the 4th and limit his touches to 15

[I suggest a trade for] Alex Smith
thewildrabbit replied to djsabres's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
C'mon guys..too many gray cells flooded with alcohol? Alex Smith was considered a huge #1 bust until Jim Harbaugh took over as HC. Smith works in that SF offense because its a heavy run first, stout defense type team. Kinda funny how 2nd year QB Colin Kaepernick looked awesome last week in the same system. Alex Smith would be about equal to Tyler Thigpen in Chan Gaileys offense... If somehow Smith did become a Buffalo Bill what on earth make you think he could assimilate the Bills offense when so many others have failed. -
And the reason we lost to the Colts was.....
thewildrabbit replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Think of the missed opportunities this season if the Bills defense / QB started out playing well this year. Not to mention Chan Gailey has the balls to openly state his two super star RB's should be getting 40 touches a game and then gives them only 21..Spiller 14 carries when the Kid is another Barry Sanders averaging 7.6 yards per carry. The next Bills HC will be very thankful that Gailey saved Spiller for him by not over using him -
I'll tell you what will happen...the Bills will win a few of the next 5 games 3 of 5 are at home, and finish then 6-10 or 7-9 and everyone will be back on the bandwagon for next year Buying up season tickets because the bills will draft a QB. It won't matter tho, same crap different year with this staff of losers Gailey has 2 more years

Three years in, worse result than before, now what???
thewildrabbit replied to San-O's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Some delusional fan recently made a thread comparing Buddy Nix and his draft picks to what Bill Polian drafted during his time in Buffalo. Trying to make the point that even Polian made mistakes every year. What that poster missed was the fact that Polian completely turned over the roster in the first two years leaving only 4 players. That Polian found his franchise QB and head coach in his first year began to win in the playoffs by his 3rd year. That 3rd year the Bills started out 11-1. The Bills went to the AFC Championship game. Now it is conceivable the Buffalo Bills could make a 6 game winning run,and make the playoffs at 10-6. If that should happen Nix, Gailey and Fitz could redeem themselves from that abysmal 14-28 record. BUT!The reality dictates that this years team is historically bad on defense with a very good supporting cast and bad coaching. That the offense is ranked 16th in total offense, 24th in passing, 7th in rushing ...with a head coach who constantly calls for shotgun passing plays while the starting QB is a perennial backup who has never been a winner. The two brilliant RB's on the roster in Spiller and Jackson could both be in the pro bowl under a running coach with either of the Harbaugh's, Gary Kubiak or Marty Schottenheimer. The Bills could easily be winning games and have the #1 run game in the NFL with the talent they have at the RB position if the Bills had a different HC and DC... OR, if Gailey and Wannstedt suddenly obtain more gray cells. -

It does suck worse then the current team...but that appears to be the only alternative here. Wait until the notoriously cantankerous curmudgeon passes and then we all need to hope the team is sold to someone wanting to keep it in upstate NY. As lucrative as being an NFL head coach is... most HCing /GM candidates don't want anything to do with the Buffalo Bills given current situation with this owner and his micromanaging tendencies. About the only thing that could save this franchise before the demise of its owner would be to hire a Mike Holmgren type to coach the Bills. The problem is at this point in time I highly doubt this owner is going to change his ways and spend outrageously to hire a Bill Cowher and then give him autonomy. Then step back and allow him to do his job without interfering. So we wait.... . -
What is going to shock you is how bad that so called "above average offensive line" looks with someone other then Fitz throwing. That line can't even get 2 yards running on 3rd and short against any team. Although I wouldn't trade any of my body parts for a singular player. I sure would take him over any current Bills player, save Kyle Williams.

Tallywhacker hit that proverbial college wall, he played what? 9+ games at the most in college so he is not used to the NFL 16 game season. The Dolphins would have been smarter to sit a slightly injured Talleywhacker and play Matt Moore, but then they wouldn't be the phins now would they... The Bills have just a good a shot at making the playoffs as the Jets or Dolphins do at this point, maybe even a better shot if the phins continue to play Talleywhacker and the Jets Sanchez as both are sucking worse then Fitz. Speaking of Fitz, it all depends on which Fitz shows up for the last 6 games, the good Fitz or bad Fitz. Along with what Gailey wants to do in game planning / play calling. If Gailey ever gets around to giving Fred Jackson and Spiller 40 touches while limiting Fitz's throwing AND the defense steps it up the Bills could easily win all 6 games, and finish 10-6. But then we are counting on both Gailey and Wannstedt to change their ways and do things that make sense...like run the ball and blitz more often

Dunno about those others but both Dalton and Kaepernick were 2nd rounders and the Bills had a shot at both, and overlooked both. It sucks that Buffalo had a shot at WR AJ Green and went defense instead, and passed on both QB Dalton, and QB Kaepernick in the 2nd. But then I question this (Nix) scouting departments ability to judge talent at any position, along with Nix's judgment on drafting the right player at the right time. Nix would have drafted Cam Newton, but would gailey have given up on him because he couldn't pick up his spastic passing scheme or changed the entire offense to fit Newton like Carolina did. But then again now that college scheme isn't working as well this year. I realize that after 2 years Spiller has finally emerged as a top 5 back... that Gailey refuses to work full time, I still say a LT- RT would have been the better choice to improve the team, and would have made an instant improvement instead of a part time player after 3 years. Not like the bills are winning game after game because of CJ. But DT Torell Troup over TE Rob Gronkowski in the 2nd round makes me want to kick something. Alex Carrington in the 3rd and thats where the Saints drafted TE Jimmy Graham. Gee, a brilliant starting TE or a backup DT...decisions decisions? This regime has scrood the pooch every year so I'm not very dazzled when Nix & Gailey state that they will finally draft a QB this next draft. I'm thinking they will screw that up just like previous years

To all the fans bashing Fitz...just like Buddy Nix himself stated...If they had put a rookie in the lineup the last 3 years he would have literally gotten killed. It's also is worrisome to think what some rookie will look like behind the current line in 2013. Fitz has some great survivability traits that few experienced QB's possess. Those are, he can usually get the ball to the open receiver in 3 seconds or under. He has some amazing running ability and very much like Mike Vick-esque so when flushed from the pocket he can make yardage running. That quick passing ability plus the escape ability make that O line look so much better then it is, or was. Fitz has never been anything more then a journeyman back up QB that can win games if given the proper offense around him to support him, kinda like Alex Smith in SF. The problems I see are HC Chan Gailey trying to make a silk purse out of a sows ear in forcing that perennial backup QB to try and become Tom Brady. The last 3 years Gailey sets up his offense like he has Brady behind center, like he has that Patriot O line and receiver corps. He doesn't have those support players that Brady has, so Fitz is basically set up to fail! What Gailey has had is a patchwork O line, one decent top 20 WR out of 6, and one of those is also a back up QB. A sort of decent TE that Gailey rarely uses as the primary receiver despite the fact that, that TE drops fewer balls then any other receiver on the team, and is a huge target at 6'7''. The Bills could easily emulate the Ravens, 49ers, Texans by making the Bills a dominate run first to support the QB as they now have a pretty decent line with Hairston at RT Glenn at LT rather then forcing the QB to try and shoulder the game mostly by himself. Even this year when Gailey has been running much more often he still has Fitz throw way more then he should. Setting the tempo with the passing game when he should be utilizing Fred Jackson and Spiller much more then he has been. Gailey himself even stated he should be giving his two RB's 40 touches a game, he hasn't yet accomplished that. 2012 stats 324 passing attempts vs 273 rushing attempts. Not a huge disparity like the previous 2 years but when the Bills are 6th in the league in rushing, and 24th in passing they clearly should be relying on the run game more then the passing game. Lastly, the most atrocious weakness I've noticed from this team is when they need 2 yards for a first down and try to run by utilizing an elephant formation with multiple TE's in a closed set. They get stuffed and pushed back... As big as this line is they should be dominating that line in every aspect. Its almost shameful the Bills can't get a first down on 3rd and short by running. Glenn 6'5'' 343 Levitre 6'2'' 305 Wood 6'4'' 310 Urbik 6'5'' 324 Hairston 6'6'' 330 The Bills need more tackles converted to blocking tight ends or something. A 260lb TE isn't going to move a 300lb+ DE or DT. But then the Bills haven't been very committed to running the ball under Gailey.

Failed Top Draft Picks in the Polian Era
thewildrabbit replied to Packerland Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Polian was also very instrumental in talking QB Jim Kelly into signing and playing for the buffalo Bills, something he wasn't certain he wanted to do after the USFL folded. Polian also got center Kent Hull from the USFL Polian wasn't the GM at the time Bruce Smith was drafted but he was one of the pair that got him signed. Because of that signing owner RW hired him to full time GM. Oh, the Bills have made progress, just backwards progress. Nix made them worse then when he took over. 7-9 beats 6-10 all day long The biggest difference between rosters is that Nix only changed 8 no name non starters from 09 to 2010. All the rest were from Levy / Jauron. Then look at the difference between the 85 roster and the 86 roster, and what Polian managed to do in just one year. QB-changed RB-changed FB -changed WR- changed WR-Andre Reed TE-changed LT-Ken Jones-gone in 87 LG-Jim Richter C-changed RG-changed RT-Joe Devlin Defense De-changed NT-Fred Smerlas DE-Changed LOLB-changed LILB-Eugene Marve-gone in 87 RILB-changed ROLB-Lucious Sanford-gone in 87 LCB-changed RCB-Charles Romes-gone in 87 SS-Steve Freeman-gone in 87 FS-changed That first year only 9 of 22 starters remained with the bills. Then in 87 only 4 starters remained from the previous regime. So you could easiley state that Polian rebuilt the entire starting roster in his 1st two years. Only Jim Richter / Andre Reed stayed thru the SB runs, 2 players. Another huge point someone else already brought up was the draft position after 87 in which Buffalo was drafting very late year after year 84, 2-14 last place 85, 2-14 last place 86, 4-12 4th in division- Bill Polian hired as GM- Fired Hank Bullough after 9 games. Hired Marv levy 87,7-8 3rd in division-8th- at Halloween, Polian traded RB Greg Bell, two #1's and a #2 to the Rams and got Cornelius Bennett. wow, just wow. The Bills got their rush LBer 88,12-4-won division- no first round pick, in 2nd round picked 14th, and still picked up HoF RB Thurman Thomas. AFC championship game 89, 9-7 won division no 1st or 2nd round pick, in 3rd round picked 26th, and still Picked up speedy WR Don Beebe. playoffs 90,13-3 won division-SB 91, 13-3 won division-SB 92-11-5 won division-SB 93-12-4 won division-SB After Polian's 2nd year you knew the Bills were getting drastically better, and by his 3rd year they won the division at 12-4, and went to the AFC Championship game against Cincy. In Polian's 3rd year that 88 season the Bills started 11-1 and set an NFL record for earliest division win Sun Nov 20th against the Jets in OT 9-6. I remember that year as the Bills beat the Dolphins 27-0 on Nov 29th. The Dolphins only crossed the 50 yard line once all game in the 4th QTR after they had benched Dan Marino and Don Strock promptly threw an INT in the end zone Like this poster stated, its just nuts to even try and compare Nix to Polian....what is Nix in his 3rd year at 4-6. -69 point differential. Still no franchise QB -
Not only that, all these fans drinking the kool-aid and wearing the rose colored glasses need to remember one of Buddy Nix's first ever statements as GM. ""I know before I'm asked this, you're going to think I'm crazy, but we're not that far away."" The entire reason he made this statement was because he thought talent wise the Bills were already close to being a playoff team, and he was absolutely correct. So in his mind the team wasn't devoid of talent like most delusional fans want to think. It was after 5 games when he realized that the HC he hired wasn't getting the job done that he changed his tune to "its going to take some time". Buddy Nix did the best job he could as new GM given the circumstances surrounding the hiring of a new HC. Everyone in the world knew the buffalo Bills were getting desperate to hire someone, anyone with the smallest bit of creditability as most all the people Nix wanted to hire were either rejected by the Bills owner or themselves rejected the Job. Someone doesn't agree with your opinion so they are supposed to suddenly change teams, speaking of stupid...

What a crock of crap! Nix / gailey only changed like 8 no name players in 2010 in their first year and then went 4-12 and MADE THE TEAM WORSE!! Jauron 7-9 to gailey 4-12 How and why did they make it worse? Gailey hiring a bunch of his college buddies from GT and then needing to train them to be NFL coaches took some time. Hiring a scrub like George Edwards to run the defense. Gailey hand picked QB Trent Edwards as his starter and wasted an entire pre season and all those 1st string reps on a guy he would cut after two games, utterly moronic! Fitz wasn't even close to ready to start the season with shared back up reps with Brian Brohm, again utterly moronic!! The one thing Jauron did to screw the team in 09 was cut the starting LG and RT. Nix brought in RT Cornell Green in free agency and gave him 2 mill a year. What a complete waste of space Green was at RT and was quietly benched and cut after 5 games. Another reason the team started out 0-8 with Fitz literally running for his life. The 2010-2012 drafts when the team was desperate for a LT-RT-pass rusher- WR- LB and none of those positions were satisfactorily addressed the first 2 years. The team still is desperate for better LBers and a top WR P.S. It was Buddy Nix who decided not to resign Poz and Whitner. These guys suck, 14-28

Would Rivers be an option at QB next year?
thewildrabbit replied to BuffalothruMyVeins's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
After watching Rivers implode game after game this season under Norv Turner why exactly would the Bills want him? They already have a QB who can't win games and implodes almost as much as Rivers Jeez, howabout finding a QB who is a winner! -
I honestly don't get how some fans can be so naive and think this regime has done so much good. 3 years to find a LT, 3 years and 112 million to find a pass rush, 3 years to find a #1 WR, and still nothing, 3 years to find a solid LB core, and still nothing. STILL NO FRANCHISE QB!! The biggest impact to show what losers Nix / Gailey is with the defense. First, starting out trying to implement a 3-4 without the proper players to make it work. That fantasy lasted 2 full years under George Edwards and after the first year the defense set a franchise record for worst defense against the run in the 50+ history of the franchise. So they retained Edwards for another year. Now you would have thought switching to a 4-3, paying 112 million for 2 new pass rushers, finally having a DT healthy Kyle Williams, and placing a noted DC who has run some very successful 4-3 defense in the past at the helm of the defense would have upgraded that part of the team. We all thought wrong...instead of a top 15 defense it was even worse then when George Edwards ran the defense. If that statement can even be believed currently 27th, 31st against the run. Consider that most of the players Nix drafted have been to upgrade the defense, and it is worse then Jauron and his infamously bad Tampa 2. While George Edwards set franchise records for being bad. Wannstedt has set NFL records for being bad. So the HC can get a backup QB to constantly throw the ball up and put up some good mediocre numbers in losing efforts....WHO CARES! Gailey's record of 13-28 in his 3 years so far says it all. Get a freaking grip on reality willyas people

The team is not out of Playoff Hunt
thewildrabbit replied to djp14150's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You are most welcome After all, its not every year that the Bills defense sets NFL records for being bad. -
I had them at 6-4 at this point in the season
thewildrabbit replied to Homey D. Clown's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think anyone expected the Bills defense to be as bad as it has been. Not just bad, but historically bad setting new NFL records for being bad for the first 9 games. They have started to get better the last few games and pulled themselves out of last place for worst run defense. Currently they have the 27th ranked defense 18th against the pass 31st against the run If the defense had at least been top 15, I would think the Bills would now be at least 6-4. -

thewildrabbit replied to djp14150's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ya gotta love the indomitable will to perceive the best in any situation. Bills fans eternal optimism has kept Ralph Wilson rolling in dough even when his team sucks year after year, and for over a decade now. Just like NYS lottery! Hey, you never know! In the voice of Jim Mora...PLAYOFFS!!....PLAYOFFS!!...PLAYOFFS!!...I just hope we can win a game! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=40mhBE5MpbA P.S. So the Bills finish 6-10 and draft in the middle of the pack again because they can't decide to be bad enough to garner a top 5 pick or be good enough to have a winning season. No worries tho, Gailey, Nix, Wannstedt will all be back next year to try again next season. You can bet as long as Ralph Wilson owns the team they will never make the playoffs, or even have a winning season. -
I never understood why the bills wanted him in the first place as Meachem was no better then Jones or Nelson IMO. The Bills needed Vincent Jackson who was a clear top WR, and they still do.
-
You mean Joe "hang my head after every bad pass" Ferguson? Joe,12 years with the Bills, two years at 9-5 in 74-75 and 2nd in the division to Miami. Then finally rode Chuck Knox's coattails to the playoffs again in 80-81. 79-92 just isn't what I'd call "franchise" type numbers Kemp OTOH won Championships, The AFL, but still. League MVP, 7 time all star out of 10 years, played in 5 Championship games and won 2
-
Do you guys really trust Nix / Gailey to draft the right players and then develop them properly, I sure don't! Look at the last 3 drafts... I'll tell you what will happen, the team picking just before the bills will draft ILB Manti Te'o, and the Bills will draft a CB or RB as their history has shown. Then they trade Fred Jackson for a 5th. Perhaps they draft a QB as Matt Barkley looks like a "mini me" version of Fitz. Big brain, average arm, 6' 7/8" tall. Or maybe grab a QB in the 2nd round BTW, that one win against Miami just knocked them from around 5th to up to 7th -18th depending on who wins this Sunday. 4-6 Oh I forgot, many of you have them finishing the season at 10-6 it took this regime 3 years to finally draft a LT...speaking of 3 years... to finally get some pass rush. But they needed to spend 112 million to draft on a pair of pass rushers who have only played well against rookie QB's The team still needs a top WR to compliment SJ who is currently ranked 27th in yards, Jones is 64th. Still needs an ILB after letting Poz go. How many years until Nix / Gailey can actually compete for the division, if ever?
-
Both Byrd And Leodis deserve a game ball. But yea, this is a player the bills had better plan on keeping
-
The Dolphins have one of the very best run defenses in the league, 5th ranked to be exact. BTW whats 3x 4.1 anyway? Thats a pretty darn good rushing avg against a top run defense. Better to have the RB carry then have Fitz throwing. For whatever reason the Bills suck at short yardage situations in an elephant offense. The Bills have got the size needed to dominate that line, I'm thinking its because they mostly use the spread and just don't practice enough in a closed formation. I'd rather see Spiller bang into the middle of the line and get 8 yards at the end of the game then to let Fitz throw and perhaps throw an INT.
