  1. I'm at this stage now...only 4 would need to go. The man who drafted Kelvin Shepperd / Aaron Williams first Nobody this owner hires as GM-HC will ever replicate those super bowl years of winning. Because nobody worth a crap wants to work for the man. Buddy Nix was a retired head scout, not an ex GM, Gailey was fired from his previous job as OC. Wannstedt has been the worse DC in the history of the Buffalo Bills, he set NFL records for being bad with some of the very best talent. I might change my opinion of Wilson if he fired all three losers and hired Bill Cowher away from CBS. Or hired Bill Polian to be president, or both. Then promised to never call or bother either of them. P,S. Shoot, Cowher might even choose to keep Fitz and turn him into a viable playoff QB ...like he did with so many QB scrubs he took to the playoffs in Pittsburgh. That is, while he waits to draft another Big Ben
  2. Exactly, who really cares where a player is picked in the draft vs if he can actually play at the NFL level. Mayock is an ex NFL player, and announces for both NFL & college games. He has been a paid talent evaluator for the actual NFL, NFL network . I'd take his opinion on a players ability to be able to play at the NFL level over any other offering their opinion to the public, that includes many ex NFL GM's. BTW, Mayock has been offered jobs from several NFL teams to run their scouting departments and turned them all down.
  3. So glad I could amuse the Bills fan base with McShay's worthless opinion. If Mike Mayock had posted one I'd prefer his over anyone at ESPN. The sad fact is, what he states is true as there currently is no RG3 or Andrew Luck in this years draft to trade up for! Although, I'm pretty certain a bunch of teams will reach to obtain a QB who isn't graded as elite.
  4. Good to know Buddy Nix and Chan Gailey finally want to draft a QB after 3 years of a backup elevated to starter According to Todd McShay there is no elite franchise QB in the upcoming draft http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/page/hotread-2013-nfl-draft/nfl-hot-read-10-things-know-2013-draft
  5. Just before Jauron was fired halfway thru 09 he had started scuttling his own ship In the preseason. He announced he wanted to use the no huddle offense, then cut he cut Langston Walker so the team had no viable RT. RG Brad Butler retired to go into politics He cut LG Derrick Dockery, and he allowed the FO to trade away LT Jason Peters in the off season. That O line was screwed from the start of 09. He fired his OC two weeks before the season started and then promoted the QB coach to OC, That 09 season was a disaster waiting to happen. Going 6-10 was a miracle due to Perry Fewell taking over and benching Trent Edwards for Fitz. Although Chan Gailey hasn't outright cut any of his players he still refuses to utilize his best players (RB's) to their potential and keeps making the backup QB throw 30-40 times a game. Perhaps this is his way of saying I'm done, fire me please so I can sit back, do nothing, and still get paid.
  6. What most of you guys don't get is the bottom line to the Bills owner is NOT winning, and never has been. His bottom line is profit, and always has been. He isn't dedicated to winning like Robert Kraft or Eddie DeBartolo, or even Jerry Jones. I can recall Wilson complaining about how much it cost him to send the Bills staff, cheerleaders, and front office personnel to a super bowl. He did that once with the first SB, after that a lot needed to pay their own way. This owner has shown Bills fans over and over, year after year that if his stadium is filled he is content to go with the status quo. Once the fan base starts to falter he WILL make changes depending on how much the fan base is damaged. God forbid the Bills fan base even grows a brain and stops buying season tickets, that might force Wilson to finally hire a Bill Cowher / Mike Holmgren winning type to coach his team. I highly doubt Wilson would ever move the team as he KNOWS he has a city full of suckers right in Buffalo. I'm not holding my breath waiting for a HCing change...just trying to be patient and wait for ownership to change hands.
  7. What you guys fail to realize is that upon his hiring Chan Gailey stated to the Buffalo Bills / Ralph Wilson that he doesn't need superstars to win! He is damned defiant and determined to prove that true. From Peter King after Gailey was first hired. "Last point: I can guarantee you one of the things that the Bills loved was Gailey's attitude about how you can win without stars in the NFL. In fact, that's the kind of team he prefers. More than once in his career, he's told coaches he worked with: "You can win the World Series without Babe Ruth.'' In Buffalo, he's going to get that chance." http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/writers/peter_king/01/19/mailbag/index.html What an utterly moronic statement to make! Clearly Gailey is a moron of biblical proportions to state he can win without stars! Its the stars that make up the league and without them the teams are nothing. This might be the sole reason as to why Gailey refuses to give both Fred Jackson and CJ Spiller more touches. The reason Gailey picked Fitz and stuck with him trying to make him look like Tom Brady...but without Brady's surrounding cast of excellent receivers, without the Patriots O line, scheme, game plan. Chan Gailey prefers a team filled minor or non stars, suppose they come cheaper then real stars? This owner has been getting away with this for over an entire decade, and laughing all the way to the bank. The fans keep blaming the players and coaches when the real problem is the man who signs those paychecks. Nothing changes until ownership changes!
  8. I think Ralph Wilson cares...about his profit margin!! Much like Jerry Jones, the Bills owner is very involved in every decision. He is just not as "hands on" as Jones. Jones is a classic example of what NOT to do if you own an NFL team. There have been many like him tho, Bill Bidwell who used to sit down and sign each and every player. Robert Irsay who had his nose in everything involved with the team. So many other owners hire great football men and sit back and watch. Robert Kraft comes to mind as does Edward J DeBartolo Jr. Jerry Jones should hire a GM and president and let them do their jobs, because he sucks at it.
  9. Marcel was graded as the best player in that draft by many many people, and he should be such a dominate force if given the right coaching. Not to mention losing his brother had an impact no matter how little time he missed. If you think Gailey is inept and in over his head...what about Dave Wannstedt? Now think about how much ole Dave has screwed one of the NFL's best D lines into the ground this season.
  10. Yea, agree. The Bills are not there just yet. Some people gushing about how good this O line currently is need to wait to see another QB play behind it to understand what Fitz brings to the team. They need to realize there is a reason Gailey keeps Fitz starting, and Thigpen sitting and Tavaris Jackson inactive. There is a reason this line can't make a first down on 3rd and short to save their lives. This young line has a bunch of potential to be very good, just not yet. Wood is a pro bowler in my view and makes the players around him look very good. While Levitre is good he is just not quite at a pro bowl level yet. The Bills are currently ranked 7th in rushing behind the 49ers, Redskins, Minnesota, KC, Houston and New England. Now, if the current Bills setup the spread offensive set like those 90's Bills did with good fullbacks, blocking TE's, and learned to run out of a closed set they would be easily contending for that #1 rushing spot. Lord knows Spiller and Jackson are better then any other RB tandem in the NFL.
  11. No worries Bills fans, they will F* this up before the season ends. They will finish 6-10 or 7-9 and draft 15th or something
  12. Bill Belichick beat the Bills 2x the year Brady went on IR after one game. He did that with a QB that never started in college and hadn't started a game since high school in Matt Cassell. Brady is only a cog in the Belichick machine
  13. Think about 100 million for a DE free agent, and another 12 million for the other DE free agent. then think about all the draft picks for the defense the last 3 years. Yet, nearly worst in the league. Think about the LACK of key injuries this year!! This years team is mostly healthy and doesn't have the excuses Jauron had when 10 starters went down every year. The talent is there on the field in the two very best RB's in the NFL that this head coach uses sparingly because he wants his PoS QB to throw all game to a #2 WR as the team has no real #1 WR. Think of all those 5 WR empty backfield sets with a backup QB throwing to a cast of nobodys. Think about how bad the Dolphins and Jets are this season and how easy it would be to get a wildcard if they only won all the games against mediocre teams. I was there for the back to back 2-14 season and there was no hope because they had no players. Even Bill Polian made a statement that those teams won 2 games on merit because they had no talent. Kinda why he was able to change 20 starters in 2 years
  14. The thing is...unless a O linemen is very unique and above average right away it takes time for them to fully develop. I'd put it at about the same as the QB's learning curve to learn the offense in 3-4 years, They need to learn moves, technique on how to handle different players and that line needs to be one solid cohesive unit from tackle to tackle. Both Hairston and Glenn are still young and learning, while Wood and Levitre are solid, and could very well be in the pro bowl if they didn't have youngsters and some less then stellar players around them.JMO To the general consensus that think that line is great, think again. They haven't once been able move the pile on 3rd and short when it really counts running the ball. That is where the great O lines really shine. Mostly they are good at pass defense because Fitz can usually get the ball out in less then 3 seconds so most teams only rush four and have their lineman get their hands in the air simply because opposing DC's realize they won't get to Fitz for a sack. The ground game works so well because its almost always run from the spread offensive set and once the RB breaks a tackle he is gone to the races or if there is an actual hole its up to the DB's to make the tackle 5+ yards down field. If Spiller and Jackson were forced to run from closed sets all game long in play action, with 2 TE and a fullback they would have about a 1.5 YPC average. My take is they suck at it, because they don't work at it !! They have the size, just maybe not great blocking TE's. This Bills team is, and always has been a pass first team under Chan Gailey! Which really blows goats because even Gailey acknowledged his RB's should touch the ball 40 times a game. Yet he simply can't bring himself to stop calling pass plays like he has Tom Brady behind center along with that awesome Patriot receiving corps. He doesn't have Brady, Gronk, Welker!! What he does have is one solid #2 WR in SJ, a half way decent TE he hardly uses, and the best two RB's in the NFL that only get 1/2 the touches per game they should be getting. Lord in heaven I long for a Marty S, Bill Cowher, either Haraugh or Gary Kubiak running this team because those men would build a dedicated run the ball first offense. .Please Mr Wilson, wake up from your coma and fire Chan, Hire Marty S. Damn, where is the white wizard to wake up the old King from this spell...
  15. Chan Gailey has fallen into the same pit as Dick Jauron did only this time it's the opposite way around. Jauron didn't know offense to save his life and hired inexperienced tools to run his offense, while his defense was in capable hands of Perry Fewell. Gailey hired a pair of morons to to run his very talented defense and they both fell on their faces hard. Plus drafting and going crazy in free agency for the defense and they are still one of the worst in the NFL Meanwhile the offense suffers without a true #1 WR, and while the talent at RB might be the best in the NFL Gailey prefers to let the back up QB shoulder the game. Jauron and Gailey both had massive injuries on the team year after year, this year its not nearly as bad and yet they are 4-7 in a bad division. NFN guys but this is what you get when you hire a man that was fired at his last job as OC. Gailey would have made a good choice as OC under Bill Cowher, although I'm certain Cowher would have him using the RB's more often
  16. The Bills were able to actually interview both Shanahan and Cowher only because someone from OBD let the media think the Buffalo Bills would be paying up to 10 million for a top HC, remember that farce? Otherwise I highly doubt either even would have bothered with an interview as both already had jobs waiting for them. Shanahan with the Redskins, Cowher with CBS. I would think Cowher would want complete autonomy to become the head coach of the Buffalo Bills, and that idea was rejected. Nix went thru about 7 people before he hired a HC that was out of football in 09 and was fired as OC of the Chiefs two weeks before the season started in 09. There are at least 5 people that turned down an interview that I know of.I'm pretty certain that some phone calls never made it to the media due to the level of embarrassment that was occurring. The Bills were getting pretty desperate because so many assistant coaches had turned down interviews for the job. Brian Schottenheimer, Ron Rivera, Marc Trestman, Charlie Weiss, Russ Grimm all turned down interviews. Leslie Frazier, Perry Fewell, Mike Shanhan, Bill Cowher all interviewed, and I know for a fact that Marty Schottenheimer wanted the job badly but Ralph Wilson didn't feel comfortable with him Bills owner Ralph Wilson has a reputation for being notoriously cantankerous and micromanaging his coaches / GM. Dick Jauron stated he spent an hour on the phone every day with Wilson. Buddy Nix recently let it be known that he is also on the phone with Wilson every day. This is the real rub as to why no top coach GM wants to work in Buffalo http://espn.go.com/blog/afceast/post/_/id/9243/in-two-months-any-bills-progress
  17. Chan Gailey killed the goose, by allowing Fitz to throw in the first place 33 attempts and giving Spiller only 14 carries, one reception =15 touches. Fred Jackson 6 rushes, one reception = 6 touches 21 touches total when Gailey himself stated his RB's should touch the ball 40 times a game. Gailey killed the goose from the start of the season for not knowing the difference between a good defensive coordinator and Dave Wannstedt. Perhaps you can get excited about the upcoming draft if Nix is still with the Bills. I know I can't
  18. My kids are all grown and have season tickets and attend most games, home and away. The difference between us is, I first bought my season tickets back in 88,and held them up to 95 and took them all to every game with me. So they were all indoctrinated by watching so many winning games in the late 80's, early 90's. We all went to every super bowl the Bills went to, Tampa, Minnesota, Pasadena, Atlanta so the love for the team is deeply ingrained. I try and tell them to not support this owner at this time by buying season tickets because Ralph Wilson has a history of refusing to hire top people GM, HC as long as His stadium is filled. My kids refuse to listen, and I sorta can't blame them as they want to take their children to games just like their dad took them. Buffalo Bills fans do deserve better! I only hope that the people that buy the team after Wilson passes build it into a winner so my children and grand children can experience that thrill of winning an AFC Championship in their own season seats just like I did.
  19. Hey man, don't knock one of those mysteriously famous WR's in the 5 WR empty backfield spread set Somewhere Thurman Thomas is saying what the is Gailey thinking ....only giving Spiller 14 carries!!
  20. I would have thought that Wilson would have been fed up enough by now that the team is mostly out of the playoffs, apparently there is still some slim glimmer of hope that they are not completely out of it. Only the 1-10 Chiefs are out of it as the 2-9 Jags are still in it also Now that the 4-7 Bills face the 2-9 Jags, the 4-6 Rams, the 6-5 Seahawks, the 5-6 Dolphins, the 4-7 Jets all kinda crappy teams that they can beat and screw their draft chances for a top player or QB. So naturally when the Bills finish 7-9 this year Gailey / Nix will be retained for another year, possibly two
  21. Let's face some facts, Chan Gailey is a loser and he doesn't know how to win at the top college or NFL level. Granted he went to bowl games in his 6 years while at GT, he never once beat the teams biggest rival in the Georgia Bulldogs. Buffalo Bills record under Gailey is an abysmal, 14-28 .333%. Gailey doesn't know the difference between a decent DC, and a horrifically inept one. He should have hired a proper OC to call plays and direct him instead of trying to run the entire offense himself Ryan Fitzpatrick has always played on bad teams, and STILL doesn't have a decent enough supporting cast or a play caller willing to setup an offense to help him win.He has one main option in the passing game in 7th round WR Stevie Johnson. I love SJ but he is currently ranked #26 in yards this year. The Bills passing offense regressed this season with a new QB coach screwing with Fitz's technique and mechanics. Gailey still refuses to get the most out of his best players and limits the touches he gives Spiller and Fred Jackson, when he openly stated he should give the pair 40 touches a game and then gives them half of that amount. I can only wonder how good that Bills offense would have become had the Bills spent all those draft picks on offensive players instead of all the defensive players they drafted the last 3 years. I have to think that the Bills defense has been so bad the last 3 years they set franchise and NFL records for being bad despite all those draft picks. I doubt they could be any worse then they currently are. The QB is usually only as good as his supporting cast, coaches, players scheme, game plan. Fitz isn't the only thing that sucks on this team.
  22. very true, if Ralph Wilson keeps hiring old losers who state openly that they are going to get some sleep when free agency opens, and then that man hires a guy who was fired from his last job as an OC and then promotes him to head coach without merit. Then that loser HC hires a staff of his flunkies / assistants from his days as a college HC, then hires a DC who hasn't been relevant for almost 20 years. Ralph Wilson could have hired Bill Cowher and even was able to get an interview with him because his FO let it be known the Bills would shell out 10 mill for a head coach after they fired Jauron. Then they picked Cowher's brain about who he would hire as assistants, passed on the expensive HC and hired the Kmart version. Remember in life, you always get what you pay for...
  23. As long as Ralph Wilson owns the team and Buddy Nix is the GM, Chan Gailey is the HC for the next two years. Yea, that's right! Until 2014 is over, and its 2015 Face it Bills faithful, we wait....
  24. And by a rookie QB, and by a team that was 2-14 last year, and by a team with the 20th ranked defense....so yea a back up HC beat the Bills Spiller only 14 carries I only wonder If Ralph Wilson watches the games anymore? Is he as livid as most of the Bills fans are about what a crappy coach Gailey and Wannstedt are? I'd look forward to the draft but looking at the last 3 under Nix that will be a failure as well.
