The first of many ESPN mock drafts
thewildrabbit replied to buffaloaggie's topic in College Football
I'll bet 3 go in the first as teams always reach for a QB's As for getting Te'o, the Bills pick 11th? So no way are they gonna draft a kid ranked 5th overall. Especially considering only 2 LBers are ranked in the top 17. Tyler Wilson? -
Where were you guys years ago when I was saying this stuff about this moron of a coach & GM? Now, I'm just trying to be patient, and wait for some change or another...

Chan NOT the man for the job going forward.
thewildrabbit replied to BuffaloBillsForever's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This might come down to a Jauron like syndrome as the man could be afraid if he hires somebody very competent at play calling, game planning this person could quickly replace him as HC. Another reason is the man just refuses to stop calling pass plays and utilize his better weapons in the backfield....the RB's To him the running game must seem like some antiquated form of football and passing it is the only real way to play the modern game as he only uses the running game as a diversion. Take a hard look at the draft for the last 3 years and tell me besides the first round draft pick who of those players is even starting? Fred Jackson a Jauron / Levy player is STILL starting at RB when healthy. 5th round Kyle Williams at DT a Jauron / Levy player is a way better player then #3 overall in Marcell Dareus. The only player from that first 2010 draft that has made any impact is CJ Spiller, and the man who drafted him refuses to use him full time. One of 9 drafted players is not very good in my view, especially for a team supposedly devoid of talent. The Bills didn't improve that first year because of the incompetence of the GM & HC No franchise QB, no RT, no LT, NO PASS RUSHER, and the team was in dire need of all four. The result of that draft and free agency 4-10 For 2011 At 4-10 the Bills were able to procure the #3 overall, and while I'm not totally upset at the DT pick at #3. Still, #4 WR AJ Green is probably the best / second best WR in the game today. #5 CB Patrick Peterson is another awesome player. #6 Julio Jones great WR. #7 LB Aldon Smith (talk about a rush LBer the Bills have been so desperate for) #11 DE JJ Watt (wow another whiff for a dominate pass rusher) The team could have saved 100 million by drafting either player. Some current players starting from that draft wouldn't be starting on other teams #2 pick Aaron Williams & #3 pick Kelvin Sheppard as both stink. Again, one out of 9, not very good results for a team desperate for help at many positions. That 2011 draft shows me Nix doesn't know the difference between a top player, and his elbow. STILL NO PASS RUSHER. No franchise QB, No RT, No LT 2012 Finally a LT in the 2nd, a WR in the 3rd, and another #1 on defense in Stephon Gilmore. STILL NO PASS RUSHER, no franchise QB, no RT The bottom line, Nix hired Gailey who has married himself to a broken QB in Ryan Fitzpatrick, and all three need to go. Nix stinks as GM. His choice for a HC stinks, his HC's choice for DC's allowed stinks even worse. His choice of draft picks stink. But then look who hired Buddy Nix. Ralph Wilson must have been thinking he has hired the man who built those awesome Charger teams with LT, Brees, Merriman, et al. Now we are all finding out it wasn't Nix or AJ Smith but rather the late John Butler. I can only wonder how this owner will justify retaining both Nix and Gailey to the fans. -
Chan NOT the man for the job going forward.
thewildrabbit replied to BuffaloBillsForever's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There was a reason why Billick was fired in Baltimore as he had lost the team, and the world saw that. He also put all his chips in for Kyle Boller, and that was a huge mistake. For a guy who was supposedly a brilliant offensive mind he didn't know a good QB from a bad one...kinda like Chan. Jim Haslett is a decent DC but not a great DC, and he was a Jauron like HC at New Orleans (6 years) 45-51 and interim HC at St Louis where he went 12-2. Personally I'd rather see Denver DC Jack Del Rio get hired over those two. OTOH you have people like SF DC Vic Fangio who has been the DC with the Panthers, Colts, Texans and now the 49ers. That 49er defense in currently ranked #2 in the NFL . This man might actually know how to best utilize that 100 Million dollar DE, along with all those top draft picks. U of Oregon HC Chip Kelly would make a great offensive choice. But I think he will be in Philly next year as HC of the Eagles. Also, Mike McCoy the OC of the Denver Bronco's would be a terrific choice IMHO, this man was able to get Tim Tebow to play like a super star! Shoot, Tebow even won a playoff game against the Steelers. Now McCoy has QB Peyton Manning and rebuilt the offense to suit him -
Ravens fire Cam Cameron (O Coordinator)
thewildrabbit replied to NoSaint's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I honestly don't think that was the reason. My take is Cameron has had a falling out with QB Joe Flacco who was never a winner or great college QB. He just was the prototype statue pocket passer. Flacco wanted Jim Zorn his QB coach as his OC instead of Cameron, and ultimately the Ravens fired Zorn last Jan....not sure why exactly The Ravens have never had a great receiver corps and Cameron wants to run more and the HC / GM wants him to turn Flacco into Tom Brady, and throw more. I'm a fan of Cameron who has built some terrific running teams. He has had a difficult time with Flacco and his development. Everyone forgets that 2009 Ravens- Patriots playoff game in NE that the Ravens won 33-14 with 234 yards rushing. Joe Flacco was 4-10 for 34 yards no TD's, one INT yet Flacco gets credit for that playoff win In a league that is moving more and more away from pocket passers, and moving more towards RG3, Cam Newton types. I can only wonder about a QB's worth that needs a wall to throw behind. Anyway, It should be fun to watch Jim Caldwell try and turn Joe Flacco into Peyton Manning The real rumor is that the Ravens covet Norv Turner and when he is fired as the Chargers HC the Ravens will hire him as their new OC. -
yep, sounds very familiar ..

Trade for Phillip Rivers?
thewildrabbit replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What is it with Bills fans that think that just by trading for a player will magically make all their faults go away? Drew Bledsoe is a good comparison to Rivers, and if given all day to throw and a fleet of good receivers they guy might make a comback. As it is he is a broken QB I'm pretty certain that most Bills fans don't watch Rivers as much as Charger fans do, and the majority of Charger fans think he sucks. He had the very best talent in the NFL around him for years and couldn't get to the SB!! First, Rivers is 6'5" but his release point is not of someone who is 6'5''. Its been documented he has more then average balls deflected on him. Rivers' unorthodox mechanics were one of the questions people had about him before the 2004 NFL Draft. His low delivery potentially leaves him more vulnerable to getting passes knocked down at the line. Second, speaking of mechanics, the man doesn't always step into his throws and his arm isn't as strong as everyone here thinks it is. Third, Rivers is strictly a pocket passer and needs a very strong O line to enable him to make his throws. The Bills have Fitz who OTOH is very mobile, and gets the ball out in 3 seconds or under and still gets hit way to often. In a perfect world with no injuries the Bills line might be better then the Chargers. Then again, looking at the injuries that hit this line every year I highly doubt the Bills line is currently anywhere near as good as the Chargers line. The result would be the very same thing that killed Bledsoe in Buffalo. Fourth, where are the decent receivers on the Bills that would even compare to the Chargers receiver corps? The Bills have ONE decent WR in SJ and the rest are sub par. Comparing Chadler to Gates is a joke, Gates is way better but often triple covered and opposing teams defenses work to take him away. The last thing this team needs is a statue at QB that needs 4-5 seconds to make throws http://profootballta...p-rivers-flaws/ -
Fitz was outstanding.. for all you haters
thewildrabbit replied to 8-8 Forever?'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Fitz was brilliant...all the way up until the game ending pick. -
Would you take this if there were no other option?
thewildrabbit replied to cmjoyce113's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Continuity of what? Losing? Most of the fan base wanted wannstedt fired weeks ago, now you propose making him the head coach Only Bills fans... Not in my view! Good lord no to Norv, wannstooge, and Gailey Turner wouldn't give Spiller 25 touches as he is another Chan Gailey clone who ignores the run game in favor of passing all game long. Norv took a 14-2 team with some of the very best talent in the NFL and ran them into the ground. Philip Rivers was a top 10 QB and now looks worse then Fitz in some games. Dave Wannstedt is a moron of unspeakable depths. The man has had the best player talent on defense that the Bills have fielded for the last decade and set NFL records for being bad. Talk about a conglomeration of losers....RW could fire this entire staff and it would be the smartest thing he has done in a decade -
Really want an answer to finding a solution this this mess of a franchise? First, fire the current president who does literally nothing for the franchise going forward. Second, hire Thomas Dimitroff, the current GM of the Atlanta Falcons, and make him the president of the football operations. Let Dimitroff find the new GM / HC and let him build the team like he built up the Falcons Looking back at things now I'm not 100% certain Polian was the true talent evaluator that made those awesome 90's SB teams. I'm thinking it might have been more John Butler, who joined the Buffalo Bills in 1987 as the personnel director.

You lose the starting center and best lineman for the year. You lose the backup RT who replaced the starting RT for the year. So logically you want to work the running game hard this week because of the injuries to the O line...right? Oh, that's why this HC gave his scrub, broken QB 33 attempts and his super star RB's 7 & 9 attempts rushing. 22 touches combined and 20 less then last week The stupidity just never ceases.

The Marshawn Lynch trade; three years later
thewildrabbit replied to peterpan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
. In the end who wouldn't want Lynch if he was a dedicated Bill? One thing for sure the Seahags love him. Hairston before his injury seemed to regress this year. Maybe he can find his MoJo again next year. I think they drafted Crdner because of his first name? Has he even been active this year? Buffalo Bills coaches were unable to motivate Lynch to get the best out of him...like so many players over the last decade of losing. The kid was, and still is, a beast at RB! But what RB wants to keep running into O linemen backs all game long because there is no hole. What RB wants to drag three defenders with him every play to make a few yards. As lame as Gailey is about the defense, Jauron was equally lame about the offense. I don't blame any Buffalo Bills player for not wanting to play for the losers this owner keeps hiring as GM's / HC's. Plus, like someone else pointed out, Gailey wouldn't even utilize the kid. 5-10 carries a game under Gailey -
Stockholm syndrome: "Stockholm syndrome, or capture-bonding, is a psychological phenomenon in which hostages express empathy, sympathy and have positive feelings towards their captors, sometimes to the point of defending them." I seriously can't comprehend half the fans on this site that always have a positive attitude towards the team when the Buffalo Bills keep losing game after game, year after year due to ineptitude, and stupidity on the football side of operations. I find it almost insanely maddening that so many fans posting here constantly bitched about what a horrible GM Marv Levy was, and what a horrible HC Dick Jauron was, and yet continuously defend the ineptitude of Gailey / Nix. who have won less games. Bills fans are finding out the hard way that neither Buddy Nix nor AJ Smith were the brains behind that spectacular star studded "best players in the NFL" Charger team. It now appears that looking at both Nix and Smith the last few years it was John Butler who was the man. They are also finding out that the win record of Chan Gailey while the HC of the Dallas Cowboys was the result of inheriting a very talented, albeit older Cowboys team, and not the result of anything Gailey did,10-6 to 8-8 and fired at Dallas. Fired at KC as OC, and sat of of football in 09. Both men are clearly not what was expected by this fan base as both are still learning their jobs as they go.

You were dead wrong in every point you made, and to say otherwise is just plain denial. I'd take anyone of those winning coaches over the loser Chan Gailey, who can't even get his teams to a winning record, much less the playoffs You started this great QB vs HC debate and went off spouting about all those coaches were only good because of their QB's. I pointed out that each and every HC won with different QB's Only you would try and diminish what a "winning" NFL HC has accomplished. I suppose in your mind HoF HC Marv Levy was never a winner because he never won a SB. Like I stated, "I say show me a SB winning QB and I'll show you a great HC / coaching staff behind him" Want to back up YOUR point? Show me different..or go away!

Trade for Phillip Rivers?
thewildrabbit replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Its the grass is always greener mentality... The fact is Rivers sucks this year, and he could be hitting the wall in his career. The Bills offensive scheme, O line, receiver corps isn't that much of an upgrade over what Rivers plays with now, save at RB which the Bills HC refuses to utilize to their maximum ability's. Instead Gailey would have Rivers throwing as much as he does in SD, if not more. The result would be about the same mess the guy was IN SD. 11 fumbles and 18 TD / 15 INT's. I watched the guy lose game after game this year trying to win the game on his own. So what happens if the Bills LOT suddenly goes down with an injury early next season ...4-8 at week 14? And a wasted top draft pick. Why on gods green earth do the Buffalo Bills want to waste a draft pick on another "broken" QB that nobody at OBD could possibly fix? -
Trade for Phillip Rivers?
thewildrabbit replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
How would you compare the Bills offense to the Chargers? Receiver corps... Malcolm Floyd (22) is ranked better then SJ (30) Tight End, Gates tied with Chandler @ (82) O Line, Bills was better, not anymore with Wood & Hairston on IR coaching, Chargers I'd say the Chargers have been a better team the last 6 years, save this year at 4-8. They still have more talent in every area save RB. Its Phillip Rivers who has screwed the team this season 18TD / 15 INT and has been a turnover machine all year... 11 fumbles! Frankenrivers! -
Trade for Phillip Rivers?
thewildrabbit replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No offense BB but Fitz played better this year, and that that's not saying much., Gailey couldn't fix him. HA, I doubt he picks up Gaileys offense. Phillip Rivers needs a strong offensive minded HC / OC to sit the guy down and fix his issues. Jim Harbaugh would get it done. What draft picks from the Bills would it take to bring in another broken QB?? The Bills still need a young QB to groom, LBers, WR's, desperately. not so desperate, RCB -OC- LOT-TE This team still has enough holes that it doesn't need to waste draft picks on a player that wouldn't be a huge upgrade for the team. Joe Flacco, Matt Schaub and Matt Moore of the Dolphins are all UR FA's. -
Wrong on everything.... Perhaps you should have stated those coaches never won a super bowl without those QB's.I say Its the great head coach that makes a great QB or finds one to make great. Elway was a 3x SB loser before Shanahan got to Denver and installed the west coast offense along with a devastating power running game. I was arguing a point about how free agency and how it has affected teams vs what a good head coach can do to a team. YOU want to start a debate over elite QB's vs head coaches. I say show me a SB winning QB and I'll show you a great HC / coaching staff behind him. Kinda why the super bowl trophy is named after a head coach and not a stadium, owner, QB, team.
-
Yea, John Butler built that awesome charger team with LT & Co. I wouldn't want Norv Turner or AJ Smith in Buffalo. Still clinging to the hope that Marty S gets another shot in the NFL in Buffalo. Phillip Rivers yes, but only if this team fires Gailey / Nix and hires a HC / GM who know what they are doing. Not gonna hold my breath tho

Not only did Jim Harbaugh help resurrect a former #1 draft pick QB in Alex Smith who was regarded as a really bad QB by everyone in the league, and turned a losing QB into a winner. He KNEW what coaches to hire and what schemes to run! Ya see that bolded KNEW part? Harbaugh came in and hired the right OC & DC. The defense ranked 15th in 09 / 13th in 2010 suddenly got a whole lot better to #4 in the NFL in 2011, this season they are #2 in total defense. Harbaugh KNEW to setup a run first offense to help the not so good QB gain confidence, and learn how to win. He did this in a strike shortened off season too. By the same token the moron Gailey came in and took a defense ranked 19th in 2009 and made them so much worse to #24 in 2010, #26 in 2011, now 24th again. but were near last in the league most of this year with a 100 million dollar DE. Read my sig, this defense this year set NFL records for being bad. Made Alex Smith look better then both Steve Young and Joe Montana The key here is knowing what assistant coaches to hire and what players to draft / bring in during free agency to make the team better. The difference between the two coaches is staggering when you consider that Gailey was the HC at Dallas for a winning team and has lots of previous experience as both an NFL OC / HC, and in college. Harbaugh had only coached college but he was clearly the smarter man in knowing how to setup a winning team. The 49ers already had Alex Smith who took them to the NFC Championship game and then he was smart enough to draft a QB in the 2nd round last season...forethought! Lastly, My take is if you gave Chan Gailey that 49ers team in 2011 during a strike shortened off season he would have effed that team up completely. He would have tried to setup a high powered spread offense with a beleaguered QB while ignoring that power run game they have, and screwed the offense up. Then given his choices for DC I'd say they would be in about the same boat as the current Buffalo Bills....bad! You and I seem to agree the Bills have player talent, save at QB. Where we don't agree is just how much of a moron Gailey is, along with Buddy Nix. They both married themselves to a broken QB who was never a winner, and then didn't even try and draft a QB the last 2 years to groom behind Fitz. The 2012 Buffalo Bills are the result of major stupidity by this HC & GM.
-
To the OP, now go back and look at 2010 & 2011 where if the Bills got down on the scoreboard by as little as 3 points Gailey would shelf the run game and just pass pass pass. Another think to consider is the ranking between the passing offense and rushing offense. The passing offense is currently ranked 26th out of 32. with Fitz as the 22nd ranked QB, right behind Miami rookie QB Tallywhacker. The rushing offense is currently ranked 4th in the NFL. CJ Spiller is the 8th ranked RB and could easily be #1 if Gailey would commit to using him more then 15 touches a game. As others have alluded to, it seems utterly moronic for this HC to keep putting the ball in the hands of the 22nd ranked QB instead of the 8th ranked RB. So yea, the Bills should run more!
-
Naa, all Marty did to get fired was state he was going to hire his sons to coach on the team. Brian was the Jets OC and would have had the same job with the Chargers. I don't see a big deal here anyway because Brian was already the Chargers past QB coach. The rub might have been th other son who was a defensive assistant who Marty may have wanted to be the DC. I don't really see a big problem with this as Marty could train his sons his way. He was a top DC before becoming a HC and knows and understands how important the running game is to an offense. In Norv's case I think that AJ Smith would have proved by firing Norv Turner that he made the wrong move by hiring him in the first place. FWIW looking at the Chargers current roster compared to when Schottenheimer was the HC I gotta wonder how much input Marty had on the draft because AJ has fallen on his face the last few years, and Nix sucks in Buffalo. So who was making all those ungodly choices in the draft during Shotty's time in SD?
-
What you guys are missing is most games this year the Bills pass 30-40 times a game and run 15-25 times. Last week the Bills were ranked 7th,and are currently ranked 4th in the NFL in rushing yardage and could easily be first with the pair of super star RB's on this team. This past week against the Jags the Bills finally gave Spiller and Jackson 42 touches while limiting Fitz to 17 attempts passing. The Bills won 34-18 without passing much. The Bills have the talent in RB's and O line to be a run first team like the 49ers and Texans, instead they prefer to have the sub par QB try and throw throw throw to win the game
-
My take is they want it known NOW because they already have a hire for a new HC in mind. Because they let the world know NOW there won't be any second guessing after the season ends. The Chargers will hire Andy Reid after the season is over as he has a home in San Diego and its already been speculated that has looked over the roster and wants the job in SD. Also Reid might want some of the assistants on the current team so its better just to leave the team alone. Can you imagine how Charger fans feel towards AJ Smith? That moron fired Marty Schottenheimer after a 14-2 season, and hired Norv Turner a known loser as HC. The preceded to let half the talent on the offense walk away. RB Michael Turner- RB Darren Sproles- WR Vincent Jackson- QB Drew Brees. Allowed a OT to hold out during the season and disrupted the continuity of the O line all year Norv Turner took over a 14-2 team with the most talented roster in the NFL, and drove them into the ground. 11-5, 8-8, 13-3, 9-7, 8-8, 4-8. Phillip Rivers was a top 5 QB, now he sucks worse then Fitz this year
