Thats right, because without Fitz Gailey wouldn't have won any games IMO. Remember Gailey was so stupid he gave all the first sting reps in 2010 pre season to a QB he would cut after 2 regular season games. Then there wasn't any other QB on his roster the last 3 years that Gailey would trust to run his offense besides Fitz. Particularly when Fitz had cracked ribs in 2011 and should have been benched. . Not Trent Edwards, Not Brian Brohm, Not Tyler Thigpen, Not Levi Brown, Not Brad Smith, Not Vince Young, Not Tavaris Jackson who they gave up a 7th round pick for. Chan Gailey was a moron, and was extremely lucky Fitz was there. Even then I'll bet you don't recall Fitz literally running for his life most of 2010, and his YPC rush average as good as Michael Vick that year. 40 attempts for 269 yards 6.7 yards/A. The Bills went 0 for 8 in 2010, ending with 4-12. Just like Gailey who had most of the stars already on the Bills roster when he got there. Who exactly did Wisenhunt bring in that got him to a SB? Where did those stars come from? Dennis Green was 97-62, .610 in his 10 years as Minnesota's HC. While he was only 16-32 at Arizona he knows how to build a team, and was doing so until his meltdown after a MNF game after losing a 20 point lead in that game. Through his first two years with the team, tho Green only totaled 11 wins with the Cardinals, The Cards still sent players to the Pro bowl and finishing 3rd and 2nd in the NFC West, an improvement over predecessor Dave McGinnis. Wisenhunt hasn't done anything worthy the last 3 years since Warner retired, where are the pro bowlers from his 2012 team? Where are all the superstars he drafted? Where are the great QB's he drafted or brought in? The man lost his last 11 of 12 games, and finished 45-51 in a crappy division.
-
Oh man, I really hope not . the more things change, the more they stay the same. The best KW's Cards ever did in the crappy NFC West was 9-7 / 10-6. For the love of god that won't even win the division in the AFC East. Only this org would hire a man with a worse record last season then Chan Gailey had. Even if Wisenhunt were to hire the best OC & DC out there I still don't trust his judgment on QB's. Just like Gailey was with with Fitz, Wiz was lucky that Kurt Warner was already on the team when he got there. The Bills had no interest in Andy Reid, the best "recently fired" candidate. The ONLY way I'd want to see Ken Wisenhunt on the bills sideline next season is as OC to Bill Cowher. If Rus Brandon really hires KW as his next HC I can't wait to see the spin on this to sell more season seats. I mean what rookie QB or free agent QB could they possibility get to facilitate the hiring of a 5-11 coach?
-
Perry Fewell should have been given the HCIng job after they fired Jauron. Even Frazier would have been a better choice then a man who had been fired at his previous job as an assistant. Frazier has his team 10-6 in his 3rd year So my point being, is it always gonna be some inferior white guy as HC for this franchise? Right now Love Smith looks to be the best hire out there. IDGAF if he is green and from planet Mars as long as he can win in the NFL. Whomever the HC is, gotta hire a top OC, DC and find a freakin QB.

Chip Kelly HC! (possibly for the Browns)
thewildrabbit replied to 13player's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I hope they get him. The NFL history is filled with great college coaches who fail to make it in the pros The BIlls NEED a proven winner, no more maybes or perhaps people -
Except for the first year against the NY GIants in which they were out coached by Belicheats 4-1-6 defense. The Bills faced many many injuries to their O lines every year. By the end of that Denver AFC Chamionship game TE Pete Metzelaars was playing tackle because the starter and backups were all out injured.
-
Agree, its worrying to hear that Russ Brandon is "fond" of Ken wisenhunt. The last thing this team needs is more friends being hired. Gailey did a bunch of that with his assistant coaches, and it didn't work in any aspect. Wisenhunt a noted OC before being his hired as a HC, like Gailey doesn't know a good QB from a bad one by watching previous film on him. His O line regressed badly to one of the worst in the NFL this season. I mean if a HC who was an ex OC can't build a decent offense, then what good is he? Larry Fitzgerald, one of the very best WR's in the game is languishing in Arizona because Wisenhunt couldn't find a decent QB. That is just lame.
-
Why not, Vince Lombari as HC. Bill Walsh as OC Tom Landry as DC Its almost as lame as Brian Billick HC, Jim fossil in any capacity, Lovie Smith as DC...
-
My take is fans are getting their hopes up to high, after all Love is a winner per his record 81-63.
-
Yea 10-6 sucks so bad.... this franchise is so desperate for a winner 8-8 would look good, to bad only one coach in the last 10 years has surpassed that by one game.
-
Yea, a quantum leap. Like from the pavement to the curb with Gailey, then from the earth to the moon with Lovie
-
I see Wisenhunt as a guy who inherited a team that was on the verge of being a winner under Dennis Green. It was Green who drafted Larry Fitzgerald, Karlos Dansby , Darnell Dockett, brought in QB Kurt Warner, Not Wiz. 8-8, 9-7,10-6 were all 3 years with Kurt Warner at QB. Once Warner retired it was Derek Anderson, Kevin Kolb, John Skelton, Ryan Lindly, Brian Hoyer it was 5-11, 8-8, 5-11 Look at the division the years Wiz did well or made the playoffs 2008 Cards 9-7, 49ers 7-9, Seahawks 4-12, Rams 2-14 2009 Cards 10-6, 49ers at 8-8, Seahawks 5-11, Rams 1-15 The Cards had no competition in the Division those years. That won't happen in the AFC East with Belichick in the division. The Bills need to hire someone better then this man or its another 3 years of Just like Chan Gailey Wiz doesn't know the difference between a bad QB, a good QB and a great QB by watching film and studying them.
-
Wow, excellent news Lovie Smith along with a top DC like Rod Marinelli. then bring in Norv Turner or Cam Cameron as OC. 81-63 .563. Six years out of twelve with a winning record. It just doesn't get much better in people that actually WANT to work here. If I'm Rus Brandon I'd play it like Nix did with Super Mario, and not let him leave until he signs

Some Bills fans just don't get this fact. THIS IS BUFFALO! The majority of the world doesn't move to this city, they move away. To a warmer climate, away from its beleaguered economy and crumbling infrastructure. Buffalo one of the poorest amongst U.S. cities with populations of more than 250,000 people. If this FO wants to change the its history of ineptitude, its loser mentality. They need to hire the very best HC they can find. There are names out there that could change everything for this org. Sorry to say but Ken Wisenhunt with his record of 45-51 isn't the answer. Its not just his overall W/L record either. Look at his team this year, bad QB's, worst O line in the NFL. This man has already proved he doesn't know how to find a top QB. 5-11 for a REASON, worse then the Buffalo Bills. C'mon folks, what are you thinking?

Jim Haslett = Jauron 2.0=

I disagree. I believe the best HC's find the best QB's, or mold them into the best. You guys are forgetting the one year that Brady was knocked out for the season during the opening game in 2008. Remember that year? With no Tom Brady and the Bills starting 5-1 all Bills fans thought this might be the year Instead, Belichick took a kid who had NEVER started a football game since high school at QB and yet managed to get his team to 11-5 with him, and WITHOUT BRADY. The Patriots beat the Bills 2x that year, as usual. Lets not forget Belichick saw that Bledsoe was to slow in processing the speed of the game and traded him away to Buffalo, laughing all the way. if the Patriots didn't have Tom Brady, like Mike Shanahan, Belichick would create his own destiny and find another top QB or mold one. -

I agree Andy Reid made his own bed with Michael Vick as his starting QB, and by allowing a good friend to who was an OC and never coached the defense become his DC, both mistakes. So yea, there are some alarm bells going off here, and your right, it is very Chan-esque. But there is a huge difference between Chan and Andy. Only 3 years ago the Eagles were 11-5, 2 years ago 10-6 and took the division. Sean McDermott as DC those two years after Jim Johnson, and then was fired in Jan 2011. Effing Chan Gailey had 3 years and never made it past 6-10, see the difference! As little as 2010 the Bears were 11-5, won the division and played in the NFC Championship game against the Packers. Plus he was sort of Chan-esque in his approach to OC and running an offense. He had Mike Martz and Mike Tice as OC's, both suck. But what sucks more is when he has very little control over who gets drafted, and the Bears GM's have done a bad job in building that O line to protect the QB. The other problem is the QB, Jay Cutler who threw 19 touchdowns for 3,033 yards this year for the 28th ranked offense. Rex Grossman threw 23 touchdowns for 3,193 yards in 2006 for the 15th ranked offense, his first full season playing. With Cutler as quarterback, the Bears' offense has ranked 23rd, 30th, 24th and 28th in the league. During this time, they've fired two offensive coordinators and a head coach. Effing Chan Gailey had 3 years and never made it past 6-10, see the difference! My take is both the Eagles and Bears have forgotten what it was like without a winning head coach. Kinda like the Buffalo Bills the last 13 years. Both Lovie Smith and Andy Reid have better winning records then Jon Gruden, and are actually currently looking for work. Yet the Bills haven't stated they will interview either of them. They have stated they will interview Chip Kelly and Mike McCoy which is good news. Although I'm more sold on McCoy then Kelly simply because its a different world in college. -

You can think to bust on me all you want, but this franchise keeps hiring LOSERS, and has since Wade Phillips. 13 years of losing isn't enough for you? YES, IT IS BLACK AND WHITE. Yes, the Bills are bad by choice, simply because they keep hiring bad coaches. All you need do is find the HC with the best W/L record Marty Schottenheimer wanted the job badly back in 2010, Buddy Nix wanted to hire Marty S, and Ralph Wilson said no. Marty S, 203-127-1 .606 and RW said he didn't feel "comfortable" with him. I'll bet both Shanahan and Cowher turned down the Bills job in 2010 because of having to answer Ralph Wilson for every decision. There was a time when this owner went out and hired a top winning coach in Chuck Knox. The results were amazing and produced a winner. Sine then he has been reluctant to hire a HC with a winning record, for whatever reason. Hire a wannabe like Jauron who had a 35-45 record in Chicago (Oh, but he took a team to the playoffs once) So lets give him 3+ years to prove he sucks. To Chan Gailey who was fired from his job as OC of the 2-12 KC Chiefs, and spent the 09 season out of football all together. a 68-41 in College but never once in 6 years did his GT team ever beat his teams biggest rival the U of Georgia, never went to a BCS bowl, never won more than 9 games, and never finished in the top 25. Ok so he did have two years as HC of a SB team and made them worse, not better. Talk about enormous red flags, bells and alarms going off and yet the Buffalo Bills still hired those bums. I don't know Bill Cowher's status on if he will ever coach again. But If I'm Russ Brandon I'd throw the farm at Cowher rather then letting Buddy Nix throw the farm at some bum of a QB in this years draft. Look at Cowhers win / loss record over the course of his 15 years of being HC of the Steelers. Big Ben was only with the team since 2004. So the other 12 years, with 8 of those years in the playoffs. Cowher had to deal with scrubs and bums at QB like Neil O Donnell, Mike Tomczak, Kordell Stewart, Tommy Maddox and yet... he won a lot of games with bums at QB! So yea, to me it is B&W and it is all about their W/L records. -

Yea, why even bother trying... The Bills need to stop hiring these "maybe", retread, almost a winner coaches and concentrate on hiring the very best HC they can get. It won't be easy or inexpensive to hire the best and get them to come to Buffalo. Ken Wisenhunt...45-51 . 469% why are they even bothering? been to a SB Jon Gruden 95-81 .540 won SB Lovie Smith 81-63 .563 better, been to a SB Andy Reid 130-93 .585 better, been to a SB Bill Cowher 140-90 .623 best won SB, been to SB Tim Graham wrote an article on 4/5/11 on the top 10 NFL coaches 1. Bill Belichick, New England Patriots 2. Mike Tomlin, Pittsburgh Steelers 3. Andy Reid, Philadelphia Eagles- available 4. Mike McCarthy, Green Bay Packers 5. Sean Payton, New Orleans Saints 6. Tom Coughlin, New York Giants 7. Rex Ryan, New York Jets 8. Lovie Smith, Chicago Bears-available 9. Mike Smith, Atlanta Falcons 10. M. Shanahan, Washington Redskins 10. John Harbaugh, Baltimore Ravens Andy Reid put all his faith in QB Michael Vick, and a DC that was trying to make the wide 9 defense work. Lovie Smith was fired after a 10-6 season Imagine what he could do with that Bills D Line and if he could lure Rod Marinelli to Buffalo to coach the defense -
The Buffalo Bills face Bill Belichick teams 2x a year with Tom Brady at QB.The ONLY way to compete against them is to hire an equally good HC and find an equally good QB. Talk about daunting tasks! Is Russ Brandon currently just blowing smoke again, and again like we have seen over the last 13 years? Change the coaching staff from inept to more inept. Bring in TO, Bring in Super Mario...A world class organization with world class people... Now the GM is spouting we will get a QB this draft even if we need to trade up to do so. Oh, you mean like the Redskins did with RG3. So, the Bills finally plan on drafting a QB in a very weak QB class with 6 of the 7 teams in front of them all needing a QB. Its almost comical, if it weren't so sad. Andy Reid is the very best coaching offensive candidate (recently fired) and there is no talk of him coming in to for an interview. Everywhere but Buffalo his name is mentioned. This exact same thing happened with Peyton Manning, he was out there and yet this FO / GM had no interest. Geez, he is only QBing the best team in the AFC this year. No interview with Bill Cowher. No interview with Job Gruden (despite what was reported on this site, they in fact never spoke with Gruden) No interview with Andy Reid. Ken Wisenhunt took a team to the SB, but did it in a division where the Cardinals won the division title with a 9-7 record, and with a retread SB QB. What will 9-7 get you in the AFC East ? In my view about the only man I can think of that could build a team to compete against the Patriots every year is Bill Cowher. Ya wanna beat the best, you had better hire the best. Other then Cowher... Mike McCoy Age: 40 Current job: Offensive coordinator, Denver Broncos McCoy has 13 years of NFL coaching experience, including the past four as the Broncos offensive coordinator. Last season, his reputation around the NFL soared as a result of his handling of the transition from Kyle Orton to Tim Tebow. He completely overhauled his scheme in the middle of the season to accommodate Tebow's specific skill set. The Broncos finished the season with the NFL's No. 1 rushing attack. This season, he has smoothly transitioned his offense to suit Peyton Manning. They are currently ranked fourth in passing. Those rankings highlight McCoy's flexibility and willingness to adapt his scheme to his personnel. If the man can win a division title, and win a playoff game against the Steelers with Tim Tebow at QB.... Or was it the combination of McCoy as OC, John Fox as HC with Jack Del Rio as DC? Still, Tim Tebow? http://www.nfl.com/n...oach-candidates from another thread... http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/01/02/manning-thinks-mccoy-has-what-it-takes-to-be-a-head-coach/

New ownership= new GM, president, HC. If this new job title for Brandon doesn't involve actually creating, and building a winning franchise. Then I can envision everybody being gone with new ownership. It starts with a finding new 'winning" HC and QB, a very daunting task for even someone who already is a top NFL executive.

How do we use CJ Spiller?
thewildrabbit replied to HerdMenatlity1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No idea why Gailey didn't use Spiller more as a WR considering the lack of talent in the WRs on this team. Imagine the Bills offense with Lynch the main RB (like Seattle), Jackson the 3rd down back like Sproles in NO and Spiller as the option WR. Just move the guy around as WR / RB to drive defenses crazy trying to keep him covered. But give him at least 20+ touches a game. It was almost criminal to watch Gailey only giving Spiller 7 touches a game. -
Another OC that doesn't know the difference between a decent NFL starting QB and a bad one.....great! IMO Wiz inherited a team from Dennis Green, Kurt Warner was already on the team as was Matt Leinert. He hired OC Todd Haley. Wiz kept trying to find that "franchise" QB after Warner retired, but never did. Lets not forget that the year the Cardinals went to the SB they did it with a 9-7-record in a very crappy division. The Bills don't play in a crappy division, they play against the Patriots and arguably the best HC in the NFL 2x a year. They can't afford another crappy HC. http://www.rotoworld.com/headlines/nfl/253301/whisenhunt-emerging-as-favorite-for-bills-job?rw=1

Why Brandon will get the best coach here.
thewildrabbit replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
At first glance this change only looked like a change of a job title for one guy. They did however fire one of the most inept coaching staffs ever, which was good news to most fans Buddy Nix still with the team is a concern because this is the man who didn't draft Andy Dalton, Colin Kaepernick, Russell Wilson, Christian Ponder because they didn't FALL to him in the draft. All 4 are in the playoffs and all 4 should have the been a better choice over Fitz. Thinking about it, its probably a good thing that Gailey, and his staff didn't have a chance to ruin those young men. I mean look at that BB offense, Fitz doesn't have the first clue on how to run a 2 min drill, thats bad coaching. The one great thing about Ralph Wilson stepping away. It means that he will no longer be meddling in day to day affairs of the team. Which now means that options are now open for some of the better coaches to come to the Buffalo Bills who had reservations about joining a club with a notoriously cranky meddling owner. So, before we all jump off the " cliff" howabout we wait until the Bills hire a new HC. I'm still holding out hope its Bill Cowher or even Marty S. who wanted the job, but Wilson didn't feel "comfortable" with hiring.
