  1. Yea, I liked the part about "I imagine Manuel will be considered as a player available somewhere in the late-second to fourth round." I like the player, just not where he was picked.
  2. Yeah right, all the teams wanted the 5th rated QB in the draft... Seriously, I like the player, just not where he was picked. This team still has way to many holes to be selecting a developmental QB in the first round. EJ just might need to sit for a year.
  3. Guys, what are you going off the deep end for? NFN if the Bills hadn't drafted EJ he still might be on the board with Barkley, and Nassib for round 4 A rookie QB that needs loads of developmental time, and it could take more then a year before he even starts to develop as an NFL pocket passer. Then the rookie QB may develop properly if given proper protection and a solid run game. The O line is still a huge concern to me with Eric Wood ending up on IR the last 3 years and losing their best OG. Then not replacing Levitre in the draft when they had ample opportunities. The game is, and always will be won in the trenches! So far only WR Robert Woods stands out to me as a great pick! LB Kiko Alonso could be a starter, we will see. the 3rd round WR is a TJ Graham clone, faster only with less production. One solid starting WR and perhaps another starting LBer, 2 for 4 doesn't get me that excited.
  4. Really? Did they even take a QB thru rounds 3. No! I can see why the Bills wanted EJ, I just happen to think they drafted him way to early considering nassib and barkley are STILL on the board at round 4.jeez Its tough to fight panic when you get old
  5. EJ Manuel @16 has Buddy Nix written all over it. Cam Newton light was WAAAAAAY too early. Another TJ Graham in Marquise Goodwin in the 3rd.
  6. The read option is in vogue right now in the NFL, and EJ is another Cam Newton only without the bad history and short amount of college playing time. This kid is squeaky clean, has his mom right next to him on the podium and looks to have a strong family values. So he is NOT a Cam Newton, Vince Young, JaMarcus Russell type. That said, EJ is not ready to be a Fitz type pocket QB as he has so much to learn. The NFL nomenclature, reading NFL defenses, setting line protections. It might take a year or more of development before he sits in the pocket and goes thru his progressions without running after the first read is not there. IMO The Bills will setup a read option for EJ and let him work that style of offense while he learns the NFL pro style. BTW, No other team but the Jets took a QB in the 2nd or 3rd rounds except Mike Glennon to the Buc's. Not Arizona, Oakland, Philly, Jacksonville, Cleveland. So taking EJ at #16.... "Manuel needs lots of time to grow into a quarterback. Right now, he's an athlete playing quarterback. He needs to go to a team with a stable front office and coaching situation where he can develop at a slower pace. He can't run a NFL offense right now without significantly watering down the offense, or tailoring the offense the way Fisher did at Florida State. While Manuel is ultra-smart, there's a difference between studying and making decisions at NFL speeds, and Manuel needs help with the latter. A team that takes Manuel needs to have a long-term development plan. A team that does so could have a quarterback like Colin Kaepernick... or, if they rush him to the field, Tim Tebow." http://www.buffalorumblings.com/2013/4/21/4234106/ej-manuel-2013-nfl-draft-scouting-report
  7. Believe it or not! "Manuel's father Erik is close friends with Bruce Smith. The Bills' Hall of Fame defensive end, who coincidentally is EJ Manuel's godfather, gave him some pointers on the team and the city of Buffalo before his visit with the team." http://www.cbssports...-with-16th-pick
  8. The thing is with scouts, and evaluating players, you can't always look into a players heart and see what their true ambition really is. With Russell it was getting paid and doing codeine. OTOH EJ cried on the podium and stated he was so proud to be a Buffalo Bill. I think the Bills view him as a Cam Newton without the bad baggage. It will just take some time to develop this kid into a top pocket passer IMO
  9. Jacksonville, Philly, Arizona, Jets, and Tenn all pick before the Bills in the 2nd round. I think Philly coveted him because Chip Kelly tried to recruit him in college. So the Bills would have most likely missed on EJ if they had waited till the 2nd round. However, I also think the Bills took him too early and could have traded back some more, to the top of the first round perhaps, as they have so many other holes to fill.
  10. Not miserable about the pick. To be honest I like this pick way more then I ever liked Cam Newton, simply because he doesn't have any of the bad history behind him like Newton did. I watched him get drafted on the NFL network, and he was crying, stating he was so proud to be drafted by the Buffalo Bills. Its not the QB choice with me, its where he was picked and "if" he will develop properly in Buffalo given the current state of the surrounding cast on offense.
  11. I'm happy for you that you think all the Buffalo Bills fans prayers for a franchise QB have been answered by this choice.
  12. My fears stem from the fact that Manuel will need some real development in many areas and I just don't see that happening very well with the current state of the team. Now, should the Bills let him sit a year and learn while they build a better offense then perhaps he might just eventually pan out. Lets not forget that this player was getting 3rd & 4th round grades from some scouts pre-Senior Bowl, just sayin.
  13. Don't condescend, Geno Smith got an invitation also what did that do for him?. Hey, you guys want to gloat about this draft choice, feel free. I just think you will all be crying in another year or two.
  14. No man, I think this GM made another mistake by taking a QB at 16 when no other team was even interested in one in the first round. I think there were just so many other positions that could have been filled instead of reaching for a QB that they could have drafted later on. I don't like any of the QB's this year as they are all projects who need development in my view. If anything, I'm just very grateful Nix didn't take Geno Smith. At least this guy stands a chance to develop and actually has an arm, unlike Nassib & Barkley
  15. Who cares? we will see in about two years
  16. My take is this has Buddy Nix written all over it, Nix thinks he got another Cam Newton.
  17. Rated the 40th player in the draft and yet Bills fans are ecstatic because they got him at 16. What I don't get is why pick him at #16, what other team was even contemplating a QB in the first round? The could have moved back even more and still probably have gotten him in the 2nd round. NFL Comparison: Blaine Gabbert http://www.nfl.com/draft/2013/profiles/ej-manuel?id=2539228
  18. Some people love the move, others hate the move. and only time will tell tho. My take, Buddy put the final nail in himself, as it should be.
  19. on the NFL website is states "one mock to rule them all" "The more I thought of Austin and the hole the Bills have at receiver -- with nobody but Stevie Johnson -- the more I said, 'They've got to generate some touches for an explosive playmaker,' and that's who Austin is. Forget 173 pounds. It doesn't matter." http://www.nfl.com/draft/2013/mock-drafts/mike-mayock/171006?pickId=2539336 I know Mayock stated recently "he" thinks the team should go O line. From my perspective Kevin Kolb is another Losman / Edwards waiting to happen, so many sacks. A QB can't get the ball down field if he is on his back or running for his life. True, the BIlls do need a WR or two, a TE,and a QB. Build a better line first darn it.
  20. Oh yea the things is, everything depends on how these young players are developed, and if the offense they are placed in suits them. My favorite in this draft is Tyler Bray. But again it all depends what team drafts him and if he has time to sit, learn, mature, and develop properly
  21. the Steelers are supposedly interested in Bray in the second or third round. w.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000162268/article/are-steelers-ready-to-draft-a-qb-like-tyler-bray I always liked this kid and love his arm. A team like the Steelers will work out his maturity problems and give the kid a year or two to develop sitting behind Big Ben. My take is if there is one franchise 'elite" QB in this years draft its Bray. If given the right time & place to develop. The rest of the QB's are all career backups, if that, JMO.
  22. I don't see it PTR. I think Marrone wants to win and understands what it takes to win in the NFL. A college QB who is not ready isn't about to lead any team to the playoffs. I think he knows that, kinda why they brought in Kevin Kolb. Its probably just me, but I don't see this years team running an up tempo WCO with the current line or having a dominate run game in a closed set with the current players either. Plus the Bills also need two WR's and a TE. With Kolb the Bills are not as desperate as they make themselves out to be, so I can see a QB in the 2nd for certain, just not in the first.
  23. NFN guys but why on gods green earth would the jets take a QB this year? They are still married to Sanchez for a boatload of cash against the cap. Besides they are in full rebuild mode from what I see. In a year thats noted to have a weak QB class why reach for one at all if you don't need to? I can see the Jets going LB/ DE and OL or WR, just not QB
  24. Now the thought of the Jets having two first rounders at #9 and #13 is depressing. Just thinking the Bills will reach for a QB, and be mired in another 3 years of losing. Meanwhile, the Jets are set to possibly grab 2 of those top 6 O linemen, or get a QB and a linemen
