  1. Both those O lines were built by previous regimes. It was Eric Mangini who drafted DaBrick, and Mangold in 2006, (and in 2007 he drafted Revis, just sayin). That 2008 line (before Rex)also had Damien Woody, Alan Faneca. In 2010 Singletary drafted Anthony Davis, Mike Iupati, and that line was loaded with #1's & #2 picks before Harbaugh / Roman even got there. The Jets started out to be a dominate run team with a strong defense when Rex got to NY with Brian Schottenheimer as OC, and for some reason moved away from that as the years went by. I honestly don't know what to expect from the 2015 offense, and everything will depend on those OG acquisitions. The Bills need serious upgrades on 3 of the 5 line spots, unless they can coach up some of those young players.
  2. I just hope that the Bills FO gets it together to build a top O line for Roman, and his offense.
  3. Yea, you never know. I'll be happy as long as they get someone in that FO who will build an O line like the 49ers have. Stealing away Mike Iupati would be a start
  4. Whats up Kirby, your thoughts?
  5. Yea, I mentioned that the QB play had fallen off in SF. I'm thinking all those running QB's are no longer doing as well as they did in their first few years, except Russell Wilson. It will be interesting this year, and all I can say is I'm happy as hell that Hackett is history He needs to go back to the college game where be belongs.
  6. I gotta admit one of the highlights of this season was to shut big mouth Rex up after he stated his team would play 1000 times better in the second game against Buffalo. Then watching his jaw drop to the ground as the Bills pounded his hapless team 38-3. Dunno why so many fans are forgetting that Ryan just went 4-12 in 2014. Yet somehow now that he is the new Bills HC he will magically take the Bills to the playoffs. I remain somewhat skeptical, and hope for the best.
  7. The 49ers fans have displaced anger over that high priced QB that wants to run more then he should, and can't settle down to be a pocket QB. Granted the offense wasn't all that good this year, and I can only think Kaepernick was more the problem then anything else as he regressed trying to throw from the pocket. With Greg Roman as OC the 49ers ran the ball more then they threw it his entire time in SF, and that's with Alex Smith at QB. . He built a solid ground game with Frank Gore. in 2014 SF was the #4 rushing team In 2013 SF was the #3 rushing team in 2012 SF was the #4 rushing team in 2011 SF was the #8 rushing team. Time will tell if this was a smart move, and we should know quickly in the 2015 season.
  8. Well, I'm still hoping the Pegula's make a Bill Polian like hire to run the football side, and he fixes the offensive scouting dept. The only way this will all work out is if the Bills offensive scouts remove their heads from their backsides over the O line acquisitions.
  9. Same here! Hope Roman takes the OC job too.
  10. Trestman didn't get Cutler to work out very well, as his offense was very pass happy in a Mike Martz sort of way. 609 passing attempts vs 355 rushing attempts in Chicago in 2014. Matt Forte barely broke 1k yards rushing last year, and a lousy 3.9 yard per carry average. I'm very happy Trestman isn't the Bills new OC, as he isn't much better then Hackett IMO
  11. The team says they have every intention of keeping Schwartz as DC, and Greg Roman as OC would be a plus over Trestman. Roman has built a power run game in San Fran, and more rushes then passes the last three years
  12. Please don't talk up Rex Ryan as someone who owns the Patriots, as he is 1-7 the last four years against Belichick. Then 3-9 against New England since he has been the HC of the Jets.
  13. From the Buffalo News a team source says they will keep Schwartz, and look to hire Greg Roman as OC. OK feeling better as Roman has built a power run game in SF http://bills.buffalonews.com/2015/01/11/reports-bills-hire-rex-ryan-next-coach/ "Additionally, a high-ranking Bills source told the News that the team has "every intention of keeping" defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz. Multiple media outlets have reported that Ryan intended to hire Dennis Thurman, his defensive coordinator with the Jets, to replace Schwartz. That would seemingly make more sense considering that Ryan, a former DC, runs a 3-4 base scheme and Schwartz, in his first year with the Bills last season, guided one of the best defenses in the NFL using a 4-3 base."
  14. I'm not ready for this either ....
  15. .... ... ... ... wow, dismantled the #4 defense already.... switching from a 4-3 to a 3-4 now? I don't get this hire at all.
  16. Allow me to reiterate. For the life of me I have no idea why so many here are willing to accept a defensive HC that just ended the season at 4-12. Its was back in 2010 in Chan Gailey's first season since the Bills were nearly that bad at 4-12, and even Gailey managed to get better. Ryan's teams in 2011, 8-8. In 2012, 6-10. In 2013, 8-8. In 2014, 4-12. Then look at his defense the last few years in terms of yards allowed, and points allowed. 24-6, 19-11, 20-8, 20-5, and the last time the Jets fielded a really good all around defense was back in 2010 when they were 6th in points allowed, 4th in yards allowed. While stats wise the Jets looked good in overall total defense from 2011 to 2014 they gave up far to many points every year being at around 20th every year. The Bills just destroyed Rex's teams this season, and made his QB's look unbelievably incompetent. Jeez, let the Falcons have him. I'm just a bit taken aback that more Bills fans aren't as concerned about him getting a second look.
  17. His teams went downhill over time to a record of 4-12. How much better can the defense get, and how much worse can the offense get? The Bills seriously need help in developing EJ, and building a better line, and I just don't see how Trestman or Roman fill those needs. I mean I could see hiring the man if he was 9-3 against the Patriots, or 8-1 the last four games. I'd rather see Schwartz get the job, as he actually earned it.
  18. Sorry, but server is still bad. 7:30 and having extreme difficulty doing anything. Taking forever to load just like it used to do..
  19. The reason some are mentioning Marc Trestman is because CBS sports is reporting that. "According to a report from Pro Football Talk earlier in the week, the Bills are concerned that Ryan won't be interested in taking on a team with an unsettled quarterback situation. If Ryan is offered the gig, he's interested in bringing ex-Bears coach Marc Trestman as his offensive coordinator." http://fantasynews.cbssports.com/fantasyfootball/update/24952685/report-bills-to-bring-rex-ryan-back-for-second-interview
  20. While I can sorta see why the Bills (Pegula's) would want Rex Ryan as one might think he has an edge on beating Tom Brady- Bill Belichick. He doesn't, not at 3-9 overall. Then the last four years he has been 1-8. Forgive me, but I just don't get infatuation with Rex Ryan at all. Not when the Bills defense is already a top 5 unit, and the offense needs so darn much help. This whole thing makes no sense.
  21. Gotta love this game 14-0 Ravens Man, gotta also like what Gary Kubiak has done with that offense, and O line
  22. Is it for the playoffs to end? Because that takes the team past the East-West Shrine game Jan 17th 2015. The Senior Bowl which is Jan 24th 2015. Because of the six teams hiring a new HC, and probably a new coaching staff that could end up being over 100 people in new jobs. Slim pickings if any team waits very long, or until the super bowl is over. Whats crazy is it looks like all six teams are waiting for the playoffs to end so they can tab one of the several still in the playoffs. Does it make sense to anyone else to go after an OC with an "elite" QB? I know I would want to look at how they coached an average joe at QB, and did they make that average QB look brilliant? In this case I think its more Chip Kelly then it ever will be Pat Shurmur. I think its more Russell Wilson then it ever will be Darrell Bevell. Its more Andrew Luck then it ever will be Pep Hamilton. Its more Tom Brady then it ever will be Josh MC Daniel's. OTOH, Adam Gase stopped going pass happy near mid season, and built a power run game to take pressure off that elite QB. Then he managed to do that with a not so very good O line. Was that because RB CJ Anderson is an outstanding player? In any case the Broncos went 5-1 with that run heavy offense. So, what happens when all six teams want Broncos OC Adam Gase? The Bills clearly don't look to be the best option for a young HC just starting out. Bad O line, no vet QB. At this point other choices would be for people with previous successful NFL head coaching experience. An offensive minded coach with a proven tract record of taking that team to the playoffs with an average QB. No need for a defensive minded coach because the team already has a great defensive DC. Only two people on that list fit that description in my view. Ravens OC Gary Kubiak who managed 10-6 & 12-4 with Matt Schaub at QB. Now granted that 12-4 record was in the abysmal AFC south, and that was Andrew Lucks first year. So far the Bills haven't even requested an interview with Kubiak. The final person would be Mike Shanahan who has done it all before on the offensive side, and his failure has been to find a top DC in Denver & Washington. The Bills could give him offensive autonomy to control the offensive side of the ball, and keep Whaley / Schwartz to run the defensive side. JMHO. Or, are the Bills waiting for the playoffs to end so they can hire the football side team president they so desperately need? Then let him select the next HC. Time will tell, because the Pegula's are in hush mode.
  23. No idea why you guys insist on feeding the troll. If you recall it was stated that Marrone asked for an extension and was denied, asked for extensions for his assistants, and was denied. Pegula was in contact with Bill Polian about the president / czar job, and later didn't want the job due to the job becoming more difficult then first thought. Then after Marrone left he burned a bridge with the owner by telling Bill Polian that the Buffalo FO people were slamming him. If that right there isn't enough for some of you then consider that Whaley has now stated he wanted someone to develop EJ, as Marrone, and his staff wasn't able to get that done. There are exactly two ways Doug Marrone returns to the Buffalo Bills as HC, no way, and no how.
  24. The Bills have not formally requested an interview with him at all, and from what I can gather he isn't even on their radar in any sense or it would have been noted. The main reason the Bills have not made any moves is because some of the people they interviewed, and have yet to interview are still in the playoffs. Bevell, Quinn, Gase and McDaniels.
