In all seriousness, Buffalo wouldn't be doing their team or their fans due diligence without asking what the price might be for Cutler. He's more talented than Edwards and quarterbacks like Cutler are not an every day commodity. Also, Evans likes the deep ball and T.O. likes his touches. Cutler has the mentality to go deep and truly is a "pass happy" type quarterback. Yes, is he whiny? Sure. Is he talented? Sure. Is he a head case? Sure, a little bit. Can he better Buffalo's roster? Absolutely. We did the same thing to get T.O. The only difference is quarterback is more of a vital position, Cutler is younger, and he definitely carries minimal baggage compared to T.O. and even Mr. Marshawn Lynch. Buffalo should ask if Cutler could be had for three needs Denver has, a quarterback in return, a special teams ace, and a high draft pick. Denver would have to consider leaping at a Trent Edwards, Roscoe Parrish, and 2nd round draft pick for Cutler. Cutler matched up with Evans and Owens makes for a nasty passing game. Add in Lynch, Reed, and Jackson into the mix and the passing game opens up the running game and more opportunities for Reed in the slot. Then, take the rest of our draft picks on the OL/DL and Buffalo actually has the makings of a playoff team. Buffalo should consider it...seriously!!!

Buffalo trades Roscoe Parrish, and their 5th round round pick for LG Brian Waters. K.C. benefits by getting a top level returner in Parrish. The Chiefs had one of the worst special team units last year. Buffalo benefits filling a top 5 need by geting a solid LG and getting rid of Parrish's 2 million dollar salary. Buffalo trades James Hardy (WR) and Ashton Youboty (CB), and their 6th round pick for DT Brandon Mebane of Seattle. Seattle gets Hardy who could use solid coaching and could experience the growing pains necessary to help a Seattle franchise who is a few years away from competing for a playoff spot again. Youboty gives them a young talented corner who should compete opposite of Trufant for a cornerback spot. According to Lindy's Draft magazine, Wide Receiver and Corner are two of Seattle's most pressing needs. Buffalo gets Mebane a talented DT who would fill opposite of Stroud. Buffalo then gets to focus their first two picks on a C and DE not having to worry about a DT spot.

What could be more important than the draft?
Nightcrawler replied to LGB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yikes! That's a nasty schedule. Pray for a miracle. Even with T.O. it will be hard to be 7-9 against opponents that all are playoff caliber teams minus Cleveland and Kansas City. Yes, I know injuries and some teams will be worse than their record from last year may indicate, but the Bills are in for a tough schedule this season. Based on the paper schedule alone, I see a Bills team winning 7-8 games. 9 wins will be very tough with our division and will require at least two serious upsets. -
Compensatory picks are out
Nightcrawler replied to DanInSouthBuffalo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wow! That was a deep comment. Thanks for your contribution to the board. -
Sure, the T.O. pick up made for great media and one-year excitement for Buffalo fans such as myself. And, for that, I'm happy; otherwise, Buffalo really hasn't done anything this offseason. I do like Hangartner for his versatility but only as a backup or short-term spot starter on the offensive line. Sure, Fitzpatrick is an upgrade over Losman, but Fitzpatrick does not bring any competition or veteran leadership/playoff experience to the quarterback spot. Before, T.O. was picked up by Buffalo, Jeff Garcia or Byron Leftwich would have been better pickups at QB. Lastly, the Florence signing was a little pricey for a nickel corner. And, I'm not sure why Buffalo management gets excited that they have the greatest depth of all-time for either backup or practice squad/special team linebackers such as Ellison, Buggs, (now, Thomas) Constanzo, etc. The offseason will be good when Buffalo signs a quality linebacker such as Keiaho or June as a starter and also picks up a starting caliber OG to a 2 year contract such as Goff from San Diego to temporarily take over Dockery's spot until a young guard can be groomed into the role. Then, draft only OL/DL/TE/S; otherwise, don't touch any other positions.

Lindy's Pro Football Magazine agrees with you that Follett is a 3rd-4th round guy. I wouldn't mind him as our fourth round pick if we get a DE, C/G, and a TE with our first three picks. I still think Freddy Keiaho or Cato June are a better solution than drafting a LB unless the Bills are absolutely sold on Cushing, Melaleuga in the 1st round. According to Lindy's, here are some strengths and weaknesses of Follett's game Strengths good at taking on blocks, plays aggressive, reads quarterbacks eye well, can play 4-3 and 3-4 Weaknesses stiff in pass coverage, makes false steps because of his aggressive style, limited technique, tackles too often with his head

I know Lee Evans and Terrell Owens would like that. Cutler has the type of arm and mentality to not play the dink and dunk game that Edwards does; however, I'm sure teams such as Cleveland, Detroit, and the Vikings have more to offer than we do. If the animosity between Cutler and Broncos mgmt. is as bad as is portrayed in the media, then Edwards and two second round picks over the next two seasons is very high value for the Broncos to consider.

Yep, Not one person has agreed with you. Sorry, Harvin in the 1st Round? Just another "tweener" who will not be more than an adequate to solid #3 in the NFL. He has speed and is good for special teams, but those needs have already been met with Reed and Parrish on offense and McKelvin and McGee on defense.

Maybin betters his forty time at pro day
Nightcrawler replied to firstngoal's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Amen...one year wonder. A talented "situational" pass rusher. Buffalo needs a 3 down player that can start immediately at DE...not Maybin. -
Amen. Weight and size was not the issue on Buffalo's line last year. It was skill, consistency, and heart. Let's not get all excited because a guy weighs near 400 lbs. We had one last year. His last name was Dockery.

The Detroit deal works. But, trust me, Philly is not so desperate for a LT that they would give up two first round picks and a third round pick. If we were foolish enough to get rid of Peters, then, maybe, Philly gives us a 1st and 3rd. No way they would give up 3 of their first 4 picks in this year's draft.

The best TE available won't be in the league until 2010, Jermaine Gresham. Yes, TE is a need, but Edwards has more than enough weapons between Evans, Owens, Lynch, Jackson, and even Josh Reed. Owens biggest concern is getting the ball enough. Drafting a TE now in the 1st or 2nd round isn't necessary. If Buffalo wants a TE, draft one in Rounds 1-2 next year after Owens either establishes a long-term deal with Buffalo, or, the more likely situation, after Owens leaves after one year. The Bills really just need to sign a LB (Keiaho, Peterson, June, or resign, Crowell.) Otherwise, the draft should be spent improving both lines and the SS spot. With Owens signing, I believe the needs change a bit in Buffalo for drafting. If Buffalo can, I would trade back in round one with Philadelphia. Buffalo could pick up an extra 2nd round pick. I would then draft accordingly: Buffalo 1st round (#21 Philadelphia) C Alex Mack or Mack Unger Buffalo 2nd round (#42) DE/DT Evander Ziggy Hood Buffalo 2nd round (#53 G (Duke Robinson/Herman Johnson/Kraig Urbik) Buffalo 3rd round SS, Chip Vaughn, Wake Forest) Buffalo 4th round DE, Jarron Gilbert San Jose State Round 5 OG, Andy Kemp, Wisconsin Round 6 OLB, Corey Smith, Cinn, or Kaluka Maiva, USC (both have experience in Cover 2 and played special teams in college) Round 7 QB (Cullen Harper, Curtis Painter, or Graham Harrell likely available. Great possibility to challenge for #3 QB spot)

OK OK we got Owens...whats next??
Nightcrawler replied to SuperBills12's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree with RuffMuff. TO will be good for sales and excitement in Buffalo for one year. If the Bills make the playoffs, Owens will be able to cash in on another 2 year deal with a good team. We do need to improve both lines, but TE is still a major positional need. And, both ladies are very attractive, but I will take the one on the left. -
I'd give up Lynch. (Arizona needs a RB with James wanting out) I'd also give up a 3rd this year and a 3rd next year. Buffalo would then spend it's first round pick on RB Beanie Wells and its 2nd Round pick on a DE.
-
I agree. Yes, Greer was our best cover corner, but he isn't as versatile as McGee and he definitely wasn't worth whatever the Saints paid for him. Greer has had one good year. We got McKelvin for a reason last year. If McGee is resigned, then no big deal. McGee and McKelvin make for two quality starting corners in this league. Elite?....no. Solid...yes. Florence, Youboty and Corner make for great depth and in specific situations. I'd rather see that 6-8 million that Greer wanted per year on a more pressing need...defensive line. I actually support and agree with Buffalo's management on this one. Yikes, maybe the world is ending!

By trading away Marshawn Lynch and drafting Chris "Beanie" Wells in the 1st round, the Buffalo Bills front office should consider the possibility of helping themselves and two other teams that aren't competitors in the AFC...the Detroit Lions and the Seattle Seahawks. Buffalo trades its 1st round #11 pick (trade value 1,250) and its 3rd round #75 pick (trade value 215) to the Detroit Lions for their 1st round #20 pick (trade value 850) and their 2nd round #33 pick (value 580). How does Detroit benefit? Detroit would then have picks #1 and #11. Detroit can likely get their future quarterback in Stafford or Sanchez likely with the #11 pick. Detroit can then use their first round pick on either on a top offensive lineman, linebacker or grab the safest and most talented defensive player in the draft, Aaron Curry. Detroit also would then have two third round picks. This would be a great start for Detroit. Yes, they are the worst run franchise in the NFL, but this would be a great start for a team that has struggled more than Buffalo the last 10 years. How does Buffalo benefit? Buffalo doesn't have to commit #11 pick money to an offensive or defensive position of need at such a high pick. defensive player that isn't worth drafting this high. Buffalo can still pick a competitive player with the 20th pick. And, Buffalo picks up pick #33 which is basically another 1st round pick. Buffalo then has the flexibility of filling positional needs with picks #20, #33 and their own second round pick, pick #42. Buffalo then trades Marshawn Lynch to the Seattle Seahawks for their second round pick, pick #37. How does Seattle benefit? Seattle will become a lot more competitive in a weak division with Marshawn Lynch at RB and with their recent acquisition of T.J. Housmanzadah at WR. Seattle does lose their second round pick, but they need a RB badly and Lynch for a second round pick is of great value to them considering Beanie Wells and Knowshown Moreno will be off the board. Seattle then doesn't have to reach for them with their 1st round pick at #4. Seattle can then pick a top DE or OL to rebuild. Or, they could make their offense even more alive by adding Crabtree to T.J. and Lynch. How does Buffalo benefit Trust me, Lynch will be disciplined by the NFL. There is no way Buffalo brought in Taylor, Jones, and Foster just for the fun of it. Lynch will get some sort of suspension. The guy is a cancer...seriously. Buffalo gets rid of a highly talented player that will either run himself out of the league, will grow tired of playing in Buffalo or maybe he will flourish in a different environment such as Seattle. Buffalo gets another high second round pick at #37. 3 Teams greatly benefit. Detroit needs are met. Seattle's situation improves. Buffalo gets more draft picks to fill holes not filled in Free Agency. Buffalo's 2009 Draft 1st Round #20 from Detroit--Chris "Beanie Wells" (best RB in draft, nice 1-2 punch with Jackson) 2nd Round #33 from Detroit--Alex Mack (top C in draft, allows Buffalo to use Hangartner as backup or as a guard) 2nd Round #37 from Seattle--Robert Ayers (DE, high quality 4-3 player helps out a very weak Defensive Line) 2nd Round #42 Buffalo's pick--Jared Cook (TE, top 3 at his position, fast, can stretch field) Buffalo's top needs of DE/C/TE are met while also ridding Buffalo of Lynch and replacing him with the best RB in the class. Buffalo can then use their 4-7 round picks for depth at guard, safety, and the DT/DE position Thoughts and comments Note: If you disagree, I'm cool with that. But, please come back with some real thought and analysis.

Totally agree. Both of these guys would be upgrades but not at our three-to-four biggest needs: 1. DE 2. TE 3. C 4. DT/Guard Now, if we sign these two guys and pick up a true starting center or DT/Guard, then I feel good knowing that the major holes of DE/TE can be addressed in the first three rounds.
-
Exactly. Yes, Florence could add depth, but there are a lot of question marks on this guy. #1. He lost his starting job #2. He was released by his team #3. He apparently had a bad attitude in San Diego. Just what we need...another high character guy like Lynch & Simpson #4. He is from the same area as Leodis McKelvin. This guy better not bring down McKelvin with a bad attitude/work ethic or off the field lifestyle. Florence should be our #4 corner in nickel and dime situations along with Youboty.

2 former Dolphin D lineman now Free>
Nightcrawler replied to Tonawanda Troy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Taylor wouldn't want to end his likely hall of fame career in Buffalo. As far as Holliday, yes he's old, but he's better than Kelsay or Denney. I wouldn't mind him for depth at all. After all, as far as I'm concerned, Buffalo could use 3 DE's through F.A. and the draft. The only two worth keeping are Schobel (although his salary is too high) and Denney makes for a competent backup. Otherwise, Kelsay can go, we need another backup, and Ellis is still a wildcard as far as how productive he can be. Bring in Holliday. The worst case scenario is a competent backup. The best case is a competent starting stop gap until we get a young DE. -
Thanks for all thoughts. Winning and solid contract offers will change F.A.'s and all players perspective of playing for the Bills. I just want a season where Buffalo makes the playoffs again. I'm at the point where I would settle for a close first round loss. There are no other Bills fan that I'm aware of in Reno, NV. Most of the AFC EAST coverage I get through national news or by west coast/local media outlets only give comments or thoughts like what I heard by Tim Graham. All thoughts both positive and negative for those closer to Orchard Park have been great. Thanks!

He did mention that as well. He said he lived there for 8 years, thus his opinions.

On ESPN RADIO today, Tim Graham mentioned that Buffalo will have a hard time in F.A. and moving out of the cellar of the AFC East. He cites several reasons. I don't live in New York and have never been to Buffalo, so some insight will be helpful. Graham said the following: 1. Buffalo, N.Y. is small. No large hotels, sites, or attractions for free agents. No nightlife for free agents. 2. The stadium is old and run down compared to the newer facilities for the Patriots, Dolphins, and Jets. And, the weather is more attractive, especially for free agents to go to Miami. 3. Bills haven't been to playoffs in 9 years and Buffalo is the cheapest with spending. The only attraction to Buffalo for a free agent would be its more historic past. 4. The Bills have too many holes to fill and so rather than signing 1-2 mid-level to upper-level free agents, Buffalo will buy 5-6 free agents on the cheap. Graham also says that Buffalo playing in Canada may bother potential F.A.'s. 5. The Patriots, Jets, and Dolphins already have gotten significantly better with draft picks (for Cassell) and top of the line F.A. signings such as Scott with the Jets. Graham says Buffalo has already fallen further behind. COMMENTS Welcome! Graham's sad report says don't expect anything better than the Fitzpatrick signing.

Other posts on Coles says he is not a deep threat receiver but he works sideline to sideline and isn't afraid to go over the middle. Trust me, Coles is doing his due diligence, but at this point in his career, he will want to play for a winner. Unless Buffalo significantly offers a contract that overpays for Coles, Coles won't sign in Buffalo. Agree...Simmons is our best shot and a typical Bills signing. A guy with some talent that is a good but not a solid starter/player. Injury history on him and will come on the cheap. He fills a roster spot and is better than Dockery. A signing like this makes us Buffalo fans feel good even though the Bills can't attract the real talent necessary to make us competitive.
