  1. Draft position goes hand in hand with his upside and potential. Thats why he was drafted where he was, bc he has a good chance to be great. So far he is showing some signs of that but taking his lumps just like all great QBs once did.
  2. especially when they smoke almost every team they play, then run a prevent style defense thereafter allowing teams to rack up yards.
  3. i think your post is a little inconsistent internally, if im reading it the way you meant it. You acknowledge that pretty much only a first round QB will get you to the super bowl but we wont go anywhere until we do other stuff? I think the arguments on this board are 1) get a premier QB vs 2) draft lineman first -- both are fair arguments to be sure. The problem seems to be the people in camp 2) especially believe doing only that will solve the majority of our problems. The Bills in the 90's had a lot of different lineman (yes not the best example) but always had Kelly, you can be very successful with a OK line and great QB much more than the other way around.
  4. They arent apples to apples though are they, one is a guy from a scrub football school in his 6th year, and he's had flashes of course. But its unlikely at this point that fitz gets much better hes near 30 and been around a while. The difference is Bradford was a top QB in a top program, hes a rookie starting QB taking his lumps. He has way more upside than Fitz and looks like he wont be a bust at this point. so yeah he is getting love because hes improving and has a lot of potential. Im not trying to say Bradford is having a great year, but he is certainly getting better though.
  5. I didnt mention bradford. However his numbers arent great he is showing flashes, hes a rookie afterall. Our guy is in his 6th year and 3rd getting regular playing time so i dont see why one would compare the two numbers wise. I was commenting on your statement that Fitz was playing at a very high level. That statement really doesnt make sense when you step back and look at his performances.
  6. Fitz ranks 20th in yards hes 21st in ypc hes 18th in yds/game hes 11th in tds hes thrown the 8th most INTs hes 21st in QB rating. his numbers are less than average. How is that performing at a very high level?? He's played well, but not well enough to win close games.
  7. McShay is always blasted by NFL GM's for not having a clue.
  8. Why? i want this team to win the super bowl and be competitive for years... something reminiscent of the 90s. History shows you need a top flight QB to do that; and that those types of QBs are found almost exclusively in the first round. Whether or not that QB is there in this years draft is another story.
  9. 3 out of the 7 1st rounders were lineman with a TE thrown in there. the bills picked two lineman in that same time frame so whats your point. The Bills also picked two lineman in the first round in 2009. so what? BTW they also have the best QB in the league and about half of those guys dont play there anymore. Notice how you need a top QB first or it doesnt matter how many lineman you draft. Notice how brady was already in place when they made all of those picks?
  10. Yea bc if Luck came in and posted those same numbers in his rookie season; its a lot more impressive than a 6th year journeyman QB
  11. I can assure you they are all 1st rounders with the exception on two years. You do see a lot of the same names, that's true, but that's kinda the point. The best dominate the rest try to emulate. I didn't mean to sound like i was disagreeing with your post. It is really hard to find a franchise QB and very few of them exist. I think history shows they are found in the 1st round with the occasional diamond in the rough. There are some promising young QBs out there, see Bradford, who arent winning yet but really look like they are headed in the right direction. Fitz has been around for a while, and Bills fans are ecstatic bc he has avg stats and bc its better than we've had in forever so he looks like the second coming.
  12. Yes you can cherry pick Brady and Warner. But look at the list of super bowl QBs http://football.about.com/cs/superbowl/a/sbquarterbacks.htm see the pattern of first round QBs ? why? because thats where the best QBs are found. Yes they can be found elsewhere in the draft, but unlikely. Since 1984 there have been only 2 super bowls that didn't have a first round QB playing. That is why people want a first round QB. That is why teams continue to draft QBs in round 1 despite all the busts that you can name off the top of your head.
  13. Agreed. QB is the most importany position. Im not sure theres gonna be one available when the bills pick. All of the best franchises in the league take the best player available, they dont reach to fill needs. This year it looks like when the bills pick one the needs will be one of the best available. Maybe its just me but its hard for me to get excited about drafting a LB.
  14. You can win a super bowl with that kind of QB play, but those teams have not been back to the super bowl since, and are anomalies in the history of champions. I really dont think hes in the class of Flacco, Romo, Cutler, Schaub, and Palmer, hes the next class. I mean Jon Kitna has been putting up better numbers than Fitzmagic. Fitz isnt in the top 10 in any meangingful category despite being in a pass happy offense. I agree with your point that he is fine for the time being.
  15. Yea everyone is entitled to bad days, but this isnt his first bad game this year by any means. Its his 6th year in the league and he started half the season last year and 12 games the year before. Thats some decent playing time. Fitz is what he's gonna be. He will put up some decent numbers and play hard, but hes a 2nd tier QB.
  16. Haha. Assuming, even if based on your own logic, isnt knowing.
  17. Not really a great comparison now is it. In todays NFL there are currently 23 QBs over 60%. In 1990 for example Kelly completed 63.3 % of his passes good enough for 2nd in the league. THe eras are different and the raw numbers cant be compared. Kelly was one of the best of his time, his numbers are some of the best of his time. The bills were routinely near the top of the league in that dept. Fitz plays in a different league now where completion %s are much higher, thing is, his isnt. He really a mediocre QB who is only a band aid until we have something better and more consistent.
  18. If a QB is there and the team believes he is a franchise caliber player you take him and forgot defense until the next round. Successful teams dont draft for needs, they take the best player available. A stud QB is worth more than a stud at any other position. Fitz isnt the answer, he far too inconsistent, always has been which is why he's always been a backup until coming to the lowly Bills. The question for the front office will be what player grades out to be worthy of a top 5 pick. Btw to those suggesting we just trade down should take a look and see how hard it is to trade those picks. The pats trade much higher picks bc well its easier too.
  19. And losing just as much. Our offense is horrible, statistically its one of the worst. Yes this team almost beat some good teams and we have lost a few sqeekers, but we did the same thing under Dickie boy. I think this team could be headed in the right direction and we will find out real fast next year if thats the case. I also think this roster does no favors to the coaching staff. Im not sure we had one player on either side of the ball that would be a starter on the Pats. This team is not as good as many think. And losing just as much. 20. http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/40814666/ns/sports-player_news/ all King said was the Harbaugh didnt think so. King isnt privy to inside knowledge that a decision has been made.
  21. Whoa whoa whoaaa. 4.2 career avg. In his prime he was 4.8 and 4.9 and gaining 2000 all purpose yards in one of the best offenses ever. Fred is playing behind a bad oline but this isnt a case of him being an all pro RB hampered by a bad oline. He's 30 years old and isnt going to get any better. CJ might not be the answer but Fred isnt either. He's average.
  22. i think poz gets lost in coverage too often. I dont see him as a long term #1 ILB. Funny how he's near the top of the league in tackles but he never gets any press. Tackles arent a great stat and he's not a dynamic LB. If he can be resigned to something like steam said i think he is a serviceable LB.
  23. Well i wouldnt call 58 yards a game and only 2 TDs in your rookie season that outstanding. Those are his numbers. You might remember it differently but he didn't have the numbers to say he had a good year. He sure did blossom after that though.
  24. in 3 seasons fred has 10 td's and avg 54 yards per game. You might consider sitting that guy. He is an average NFL RB and wont be anything more than that.
