I like Gruden as well and I think that he is a pretty good coach. That being said, I would prefer to have Schotenheimer simply because he has a better track record of getting an offense on track, developing QB's, getting a running game going, and using the TE's. Also, I think he has enough contacts in the business to assemble a good staff - the last good staff we had was Wade Phillips' (with the exception of his drinking buddy that he let run the Special Teams) they could at least put together a game plan and execute it.
Marty has done a great job where ever he has been, but has been plagued by those first round playoff problems. I would love to experience the excitement of actually getting to the playoffs again so why not roll the dice and get rid of dead dick.
