  1. It's John Harbaugh.... and the problem was and is for any team that they did not know in sufficient time who was an eligible receiver and who was not. It is deceptive when a running back is in the slot or outside and is not eligible but the TE who looks like an extra lineman is. Harbaugh's issue was his defense was not finding out who was eligible in time for them to cover that person. They were covering the outside man who was ineligible. That's a trick and not a trick play. It may have been within the rules in a concrete sense but there is no way it met any "spirit of fair play". The Patriots under Belichek have always operated under the premise that they will stretch the rules until they are told no or get caught. They pretty much bully the NFL. There's sufficient evidence to back it up Also, look at how they use picks or rubs, it's a judgement call so they do it alot and see if anyone calls it. It's the same way with how their DB's used to constantly hold Colts receivers until Polian complained so much.
  2. exactly...and I am not sure how building consensus is lying. Organizations have to have dissenting opinions. It is healthy to do so. This is really outside the fan's circle of control and to make assumptions without being privy to the organization doesn't make sense.
  3. at the time... Baltimore, Miami and Jets had similar white helmets with logo on the side
  4. 3/5 of the line was part of what was considered a high level offensive line 3 years ago. They were bad this year but I feel like the scheme didn't help them much either
  5. actually his new deal takes up an additional million next year. His deal has no impact on cap space.
  6. I don't believe this to be true... Marrone took less when he came to the Bills( Browns offered more)... Ralph's health wasn't good and anybody coming to Buffalo signing a 4 yr. deal would want some reassurances etc.. It was just a necessity that needed to be included b/c of the circumstance.
  7. I brought this up after the game Sunday.. various members of the media, specifically those at WGR were jerks, Marrone did not trust them after the injury with EJ stuff last year, his 110% comment was wrong and they just ripped him for it. I believe Marrone was never over friendly after that point. That being said... those at WGR then became overly critical of him because it became personal. They went crazy on the 4th down thing. In his first yaer Marrone was approachable and down right funny in his appearances on the Howard Simon show. Last season's big thing that they harped on was the QB sneak on 4th down and he even came on and talked about it and said he would look at their stats. Howard Simon said he didn't want him back 7 weeks ago on the pregame show. I'm not excusing Marrone because he could have killed them with kindness etc...and taken the high road but I believe it was hard for him to take criticism from guys that have never been coaches or leaders etc... Some of their points may have had merit but others were down right stupid. There was also way too much criticism after wins etc.
  8. Really... today Schoop said that he idn't like the way Marrone used his words... and that he communicated poorly with the media. that was his criticsm. Again... today he used the terms causal effect and correlation to make himself sound smarter. These are terms that are used in the writings of a thesis or dissertation by people that actually do research. Schoop gets tired of fans that don't "understand" his point of view. Today he went off b/c Marrone insists on trying to be safe and stay away from plays that may lead to a turnover. He busts out with" I don't believe there is any correlation to this and winning" Really... I have always seen stats that suggest plus/minus in turnovers does have a positive or negative effect on wins/losses. BTW..this is an analytic.... any time you are using accumulated data to inform and help guide decisions can be seen as analytics. To say that the Bills don't use analytics is just flat out wrong. Marrone said himself that the data doesn't totally drive the decision but is taken into account. Schoop talks out both sides of his butt and tries to make the listener feel like they aren't as smart as he is. He use this term analytics like only he, Joe Buscaglia and Sorcerers and Witches have any idea what they mean and how they could be applied to football. Finally, he is a jerk who is not nice to people that call in. It's hard to repect a guy who is that mean and rude to others.
  9. Context of the comment was that if they couldn't beat a NE team with Brady, Gronk etc.. then he much rather would have had them "annihilitated" . Also stated a majority of his callers had the same feeling. This sort of thing on a post game show after a win. I really couldn't believe that he was saying that there was no positive data on if you win the last game and it having a positive effect(wins) on the following season. He's probably right on the wins but 9-7 changes mindset, outside perceptions and starts making people believe. It also is more attractive for free agents who used to balk at comingto Buffalo, the NFL may actually give us a home Monday or Sunday night game. The perception will be the team is on the rise when next season starts. There are no hollow victories for this franchise. Progress is progress...just because the progress doesn't match your individual thoughts and how you statistically evaluate progress doesn't mean it's not progress. My guess is the reason that many of the people at WGR wanted the Bills to lose or aren't happy with the victory is because if they lost to a watered down Patriot team the media could start ripping Marrone more and more. I appreciate whoever started this thread and the thoughtful responses. I do not live in WNY anymore so I don't tune in to Schoop and the Bulldog unless something big is happening. This post game show thing has bothered me since WGR became the flagship station. Thankfully Sal Capaccio joined b/c he is a fan but can be critical and professional. My feeling is the official post game show of the Buffalo Bills is that it is an extension of the game day experience.
  10. Hi...here's what I can't stand about the post game show with those guys and quite a few of the people at WGR (besides Sal).... #1.... They are anti-homers meaning that they try really hard to not be fans... I think it's nice when we have people on the radio that are happy about the win once in a while. WGR tries really hard to be the exact opposite. So much so, I find it hard to believe they are the flagship station. You can tell that Murph and Kelso get tired of their act. #2.... They always operate out of the negative. It is easy to understand why they do this...2/3 of the most emotional words in the dictionary are negative. People tend to be negative ... human nature sometimes allows people to not want good things to happen too others or to enjoy it when others suffer or lose. WGR and these guys prey on this component of human nature. It's tiresome to listen to.. the constant negativity is brutal. #3... As radio hosts go they kind of just suck...They are not friendly...when you question them they berate you and hang up on you and then talk about you afterwards when you are no longer around to bring up a counter point. A few weeks ago they hung up and made fun of a guy who was basically saying that he was glad that Van Miller showed Murph how to be so passionate during his play by play calls. They are pretty rude most of the time. #4.... They try to talk above you ( especially Schoop) and act like they are much smarter than you. Schoop goes out of his way to try and sound smarter than the average listener. Today I heard him talking about a lack of cause and effect data on the carry over of a week 17 win and the beginning of the 2015 season. Like people are doing doctoral disserations on this. Culture and attitude are not measured like that. Schoop actually said that he would have much rather had the Bills get annihilated then to win with Brady on the Bench in the second half. Then he said that most of his listeners called in and said the same. #5 ..... Schoop acts like he is so cutting edge because of his professed love of analytics. Again, he tries to put the listener in a situation where the listener feels like they are not as smart as him. He often comes up with great stats and data. Most people know that stats and data can be manipulated to fit and support many points of view and arguments. Many of his arguments take his stats out of the context of the game. Some things aren't measured in sports, like the emotional impact impact of specific plays. Schoop himself has never had to make a football decision or be responsible for one as a coach. I have no problems with analytics only how smug and easy he thinks decisions are when he doesn't have to make them or be responsible. #6...... Joe Buscaglia.... I am absolutely tired of this guy too. Like Schoop comes off as smug and a know- it -all. Doesn't like the Bills (Packers fan) and goes way over the top in trying to not be perceived as a fan of the team or if they win. I often get the feeling that he is glad they lose. In closing... I think one of the biggest complaints is that people want to celebrate the wins when they listen to the post game. When Brent Axe and others used to do the post game you could celebrate and it was fun. WGR and these guys have sucked the life out of any sort of positivity after a game again preying on the negativity. They try way to hard to be objective and in turn are actually the opposite. Just my thoughts.
  11. The HOF role of contributor does not have a "reset" . Polian could take any job in a front office and it would not have impact on his chance for HOF this year. The fact that Florio did not know this when he posted story leads me to believe this is very much a rumor. Although Polian has never been a huge fan of the media and his denial ouldn't make him a liar if he did take a job. BTW the PFT article now has an updateabout the role of contributor.
  12. Polian inherited the rights to BUT actually signed Kelly.
  13. The media...specifically WGR (Howard Simon) has been writing a narrative that marrone should be or may be fired almost all season. I heard him 5 weeks ago say "he was done and thinks he should go" Even when they win the negative always has to be pointed out. Unfortunately, their tone almost seems personal towards the coach and the players that the media has decided underperformed. Personally I'm tired of people that don't have to make decisions on game day criticizing others. We are fans and we have the right to get pissed and emotional about decisions but in the end if you look at this team and organization the culture has changed. Marrone may not always be articulate but he's a tough, hard working SOB, who brings it every day. People can also evolve as coaches and get better. The media in Buffalo are idiots and WGR goes overboard in being critical so they are not accused of being homers. Sal Capaccio is the only one I have respect for. I love that brandon stuck up for Marrone. The team is tougher, deeper and better off than two years ago. BTW the record is better too.
  14. I believe Marrone has changed the culture and is respected by his players. He's a good young coach getting better at his craft. He is a stubborn dude and I don't think if you disrespect him he is particularly forgiving. He obviously doesn't trust the media these days, which is unfortunate but I think warranted. Check out his Monday presser. BTW I too don't always agree wth the decisions but that' part of being a fan.
  15. I'm sure there will be those that so those calls didn't matter but in reality...they killed us. Even if we get field goals on those int returns we have a fighters chance. The refs took control of the game and steered it towards Denver. Those stupid calls changed the game and game plan for us. BTW.... How do you dinitively call Anderson's second touchdown a TD? I was just waiting for Vince McMahon to start calling plays for Denver and Andre the Giant to play OT. Seriously, though this happens enough that it is becoming ridiculous.
  16. uhmmm...mike Williams is out with a calf injury. You just mentioned Carpenter has a groin issue and you would rather have the punter, who hasn't kicked off all year, punt instead of the guy that will be a touchback machine? My question is what player will have a greater impact on the game that you would like to start? This decision off a kick off specialist has actually worked out pretty well.
  17. And they very likely should have lost 2 or 3 of the 5 they won. All in all... we should probably be at 6-4. Chiefs game killed us. I truly blame much of that loss on the fumbles. The play calling and coaching didn't help but without both fumbles we simply win that game.
  18. absolutely stupid post..... very stupid... that commitment to run showed up in play action... TD to Lee Smith who was riduloudly wide open for instance. Go punch a wall or something... Every game has it's own context... The goal is to win not to create style points or earn fantasy points... They just won their third road game of the year. 2 out of three of these places I know we had never won at. We beat a division rival on the road and pounded them by 20 points. How many points did you want to score today? They are 5-3 and learning how to win. They WON and it wan't a fluke or anything. WTF is wrong with you people? Seriously? Just enjoy the win!!!
  19. He's actually my neighbor during the season. ( suburb of kc). Lives about 4 houses away. His house has been on the market since last year. He's a good guy but the Chiefs wanted him to play RT and drafted Fisher to play LT. He probably isn't an elite LT but word was he wanted to be paid as one. Almost got traded to Fins but something happened. He's had some injuries as of late. He could play RT but wants to play and be considered a LT b/c the pay day will likely be more. Probably could find cheaper option for RT.
  20. 2010 Raiders 8-8. 3rd in division. Kansas city was 10-6 and won division. Raiders beat the crap out of them both times.
  21. Pretty sure if you wanted a ticket pretty cheap you could have obtained one. Bills tickets are pretty much the cheapest in the league even at face value. I live in KC and gave my season tickets to my niece who drove from Syracuse to go. Yesterday she was die hard. I think the reason people are mentioning this is because on TV the announcers specifically pointed out the crowd being smaller but loud and game changing. The players mentioned it too. No reason to be angry it's really a testament to our fan base.
  22. This has been going on forever.... The sad part is the last 13 years every time we mention it some jerk says it's sour grapes. No, actually it's true and has happened countless times. Good teams get the calls. Buffalo got the calls in the 90's. Anybody remember playing the Dolphins and getting hosed on calls in the 70's? The refs in the NFL are consistently inconsistent
  23. Doesn't matter who won the game... This is a clear violation of the rules and a penalty should have been called. It happens all the time that coaches go on the field but it isn't called. In this case it obviously changed the play and could have changed the game. It really just reinforces what we know about NFL officiating .... that it is consistently inconsistent.
  24. This is actually humorous. I remember in pre-season seeing threads " Tuel should start" and "Trade EJ". Tuel had a great pre-season and played crappy on short notice for a quarter .5. I don't think they are doomed if Tuel starts. I live in KC and really this is the same team sans Alex Smith that the bills have beat the crap out of the last 2 years. Not saying the Bills are going to win but KC hasn't played many tough road games and most of the games they have played have been close. Think about the role Mike Pettine might have in helping any QB on the team understand KC's defense considering it's similar to the Bills. Probably not as much reason for doom and gloom as one would think.
  25. You are an idiot..... What if you are originally from one of those areas and now live in, say the suburbs of Kansas City, MO, and have season tickets to Bills games and drop another couple hundy on the sunday ticket to watch games? So my opinion doesn't matter you friggin jack wad? We may not all agree with one another but if we are true fans our opinions count. That truly is the stupidest thing I have read here.
