  1. I think he is best suited for the nickel corner position.
  2. He is not an every down player. He struggles in coveage and doesn't have the range needed to be a sideline to sideline tackler. He could ban an ok 3/4 middle linebacker.
  3. The difference between winning and losing is usually very small. Flacco on the bills could be all it takes for the bills to make the playoffs. As for the post about Flacco not being worth the most lucrative contract in NFL history, the NFL is all about timing. He is a free agent entering the prime of his career. He will become close to the highest paid QB ever this year, but several other QBs will get paid more over the life of his contract. That is how it works.
  4. According to Peter King, the bills would have no problem parting with two first round picks to get Flacco. How he Knows, I have no idea.
  5. Levitre, Byrd, and wood all in one draft. Imagine if all of our drafts were that good. Imagine if they didn't take Maybin in the first that year.
  6. Long time cap specialist and contract negotiator for the Packers Adrew Brandt was on Sirius NFL radio this morning. He said that he would be suprised if the Ravens used the exclusive rights franchise tag on Flacco since it results in the tag number being higher. He said the that the Ravens would probably be safe using the normal franchise tag, then matching if they needed to. If the Ravens do this, I think the bills should offer Flacco a huge contract loaded with the "poison pills" that are still legal. The bills could for example, front load the contract since the Raven are in bad shape with their salary cap when you consider the other players they need to re-sign. I would not miss the two first round picks the bills would have to give up at all. Sure, the next two April's would not be that exciting, but every Sunday would be much better.
  7. No it's not. If San Francisco knew he was that good they would have taken him in the first. Don't get me wrong, they deserve some credit, they did trade up for him.
  8. shhhhhhh. Don't let the other 31 on teams know.
  9. I must be missing something. Isn't the 1983 draft the best in bill's history? That draft gave the bills the franchise QB who led them to 4 consecutive super bowls.
  10. Pat Kirwain of Sirius NFL Radio said he will not get released as his value went up with the poor performance of the QBs at the Senior Bowl. I have no idea however, what would be fair compensation.
  11. I don't think his stock went way up since the regular season ended. Entering the playoffs he was viewed as a top 10 QB entering the prime of his career. As of right now he is considered to be a top 10 QB entering the prime of his career. So what is the price tag on that, about $20 million a year sounds right. He is not going to hit the market, but the bills would be crazy not to offer him $20 million a year if he became available.
  12. He also was good with the patriots. Several 100 yard games and great special teams play.
  13. Ok, so let's say the Ravens decide not to pay him 20 million per season. They would then place the franchise tag on him, but what franchise tag would they use? Both guarantee Flacco around 15 million a year. With one franchise tag Flacco cannot sign anywhere else. With the other, the Ravens could either match another teams offer or let him walk for 2 first round picks. Most teams use the later, the saints last year with Brees being one of the few exceptions. If the Ravens don't use the exclusive rights tag the bills should consider giving up 2 first round picks for him. They would have to structure the deal so that the Ravens could not match. There are still a few ways to plant a "poison pill" into the contract. If the Ravens do use the exclusive right tag I could see Flacco holding out. Yes, it is hard to turn down $15 million. He would have some leverage in my opinion, as the Ravens would probably take a major step back without him. It should be interesting.
  14. I agree ganesh, if he was an unrestricted free agent I would pay him that in a blink of an eye.
  15. I think Fitz is kind of like Jake Delhomme. If you build a great roster around him you can win some games. I feel that if you trade Fitz for Aaron Rodgers, the bills would have been as good as the Packers were this year and the Packers would have been as bad as the bills were this year. So in summary, getting a good QB is the best way to fix the bills problems.
  16. It is frustrating that the bills don't end up in positions like the colts and steelers. The colts have Manning for years, then the first year they are bad Andrew Luck is there for them. As for the steelers, there has been one year in the past decade when we have been better then them. That year of course they took took Roethlisberger who Tom Donahoe loved but was unable to trade up for. You can be critical of the bills for not drafting guys like Wilson, but everyone was wrong on Wilson or he wouldn't have lasted until the thrid. Drafting QBs after round 1 is like playing roulette , and you usually will lose. The bills have made several mistakes, but they have also been unlucky. When they are bad there is not is never a Luck or RGIII available. When they are good enough to win 6-7 games they are not in a position to draft the 1-3 talented QBs in the draft.
  17. Thanks for adding the link.
  18. I just read something scary in Peter King's Monday Morning QB article today. He talks about how San Fransicco was trying to trade up to get Colin Kaepernick, but apparently they knew that Buffalo was not going to take him or Dalton in round 2. Shouldn't our draft intentions be secret? If teams know who we like and don't like they can maneveur around us. I hope the niners were just quessing and didn't really know.
  19. No one thought Wilson would be a franchise QB, and that includes Seattle. There is no way they wait until the 3rd round to select him if they thought he was a franchise QB. Heck, even the packers and patriots would have drafted him in the 2nd if they knew how good he is. Some people were real high on Kapernick prior to the draft. I know it is going to seem like I am an employee of Sirius NFL radio, but Pat Kirwain and Tim Ryan talked endlessly about Kaepernick beginning with the first practice of the Senior Bowl.
  20. Yeah, it is a nice place to live. The only down side is the 2 1/2 hour drive to bills games. I wouldn't be opposed to the bills using back to back first rounders on QBs as long as they truly believe that both guys have franchise QB ability. I have the feeling that the best player available this year will be a defensive lineman.
  21. No problem. As bills fans we have been sharing our opinions about what the bills should do for weeks. I just thought it would be nice to tell you guys what one of the best GMs ever thought about our QB situation. The one thing I didn't mention was how much respect Polian has for Buffalo. I could tell he has a lot of fond memories of Buffalo. If the patriots knew what Tom Brady would become they would not have waited until the 6th round to get him. They got pretty lucky.
  22. On the plus side, he loves the Marrone hire. Polian may have a bias however, as he and Marrone both attended the same high school. He also thinks that Pettine was a good hire, and mentioned that Dareus is best suited for the 3-4 defense. He didn't say anything about Hackett, but no one has said much about Hackett. Pat Kirwain last week had a lot of nice things to say about his dad. I think this year bills fans need to hope for the best but need to be prepared for the worst.
  23. I was listening to Sirius NFL radio today, and much to my delight Bill Polian was discussing the Buffalo Bills. The conversation began when a caller asked what Polian would do about the Bills' QB position. So here is the summary. -Ryan Fitzpatrick is not good enough. He likes the guy, just like most of us, but the Bills need better play out of the QB position. -Matt Flynn because of his height and arm strength can only succeed in the West Coast Offense, so unless we run that he is not an option. -He thought that Alex Smith was sub-par. -Then the final kicker, Bill Polian does not believe there is a franchise QB in this years draft. This reminds of a "chose your own adventure" book, except that no matter what decision you chose you end up losing. Maybe Polian is wrong. We can only hope. Unfortunately for the Bills, he had a long career as a GM because he was right a lot more often then he was wrong.
  24. If you go through the list of starting LTs it can certainly be argued that Glenn is in the bottom 7. Keep in mind that LT is the most important position on the line, so many first round picks have been used on the position. Now given time, I think Glenn could develop into an average LT and a very good overall lineman, but right now there are a lot of LTs who are better.
