  1. Almost all picks are mistakes if your evaluation is simply based on who else was available. The year Tom Brady was drafted, Every team made a mistake every round, including the Patriots 5 times. If Watkins ends up playing in multiple Pro Bowls count the trade as a victory. I do think it is a little too soon to decide if the trade was a mistake, but it is fun to speculate.
  2. The Bills are 1 players away from becoming a playoff team, a QB. It was my fear that Orton's play might have convinced the Bills that they didn't need to draft a QB. I think after the two poor performances recently the Bills will realize they need a better QB.
  3. One more loss and the Bills should go back to EJ. I think the coaching staff would lose the locker room if they made the switch now.
  4. I had no problem with the concept of using 4 downs to try to score a touch down, I just didn't like the play calling. It seemed like they could have run the ball once or twice or thrown the ball underneath. The Bills looked like a much better team than KC, this loss was a shame.
  5. I wonder if the Bucs would trade Doug Martin, Vincent Jackson, and Logan Makins for a 2nd round pick. Two of three have been reported to be on the trade block and it looks like they are simply trying to dump salary. I'm not sure if we could absorb their salaries this year. We would be able to cut them at the end of the season with taking a cap hit if needed. I know it will never happen but I bet the Bucs would take it if it was offered.
  6. "Smoking Crack" So childish. Defensive tackle is a very difficult position to evaluate because traditional statistical information doesn't always tell the tale. According to Advanced NFL stats Kyle Williams was the best DT in the league last year. They also have him as the best DT so far this year. Others researchers have similar results. Usually a player who is in the top 1-3 of their position over an extended period of time will get selected for the Hall of Fame. Andre Reed was never the best at his position. Recently, the DTs that have made the Hall of Fame did one thing well, sack the QB. NFL general managers see things differently.
  7. Kyle Williams has been one of the best DTs in the league his entire career. If he puts together 3 more great years he would be deserving of a spot in the Hall of Fame. Unfortunately, playing in Buffalo will keep him out. Obviously other Buffalo players have made it in recently, but they all played on a team that was a perennial winner. Kyle has never played in a playoff game. If coaches voted instead of members of the media he would be a lock. I have a simple question for those who do not believe he belongs in the Hall of Fame. What DT has been consistently better than Kyle the last 5 years? Guys like Suh have had great years but have also had disappointing years. Kyle Williams always plays at a high level.
  8. It looks like we should have some serious cap room once the dead money goes away.
  9. I would say Doomsday started 14 years ago. I understand why Bills fans live in fear of failure. It has been so long since we have had a good team.
  10. The first five years I had season tickets every single game was a good experience. All of my row, the row behind me, and the row ahead of me contained good people. I made the mistake of "improving my seat" years 6 and 7 and had a miserable experience. I don't mind people drinking, but harassment and physical danger is a real possibility if you are in the wrong seat. Some of my friends have had similar experiences. If you find a spot with good people I would recommend staying put. A Bills game can be the best of times or the worst of times. I do not think things have changed with time. The first five years I had season tickets I witnessed plenty of fights and verbal harassment, it just wasn't in close proximity to me.
  11. I'm not familiar with William's contract, but it would seem odd to me if it was fully guaranteed. In general, NFL contracts are not guaranteed, and since the bills did not give him a signing bonus they would have no cap hit if they cut Williams. If he made the opening day roster his salary for the year would be guaranteed.
  12. I could see Williams getting cut. They have invested a lot of draft picks at the position, so if guy like Goodwin emerges Williams would be expendable.
  13. I just read that Golisano is engaged to tennis legend Monica Seles. He is 72 while she is 40. Very strange. If Golisano bought the team Seles would likely be our owner at some point.
  14. Spiller 2 season ago was elite. Last season he was solid. If they Bills find a way to pass the ball more consistently down the field next season you will see things really open up for Spiller. I hope Watkins helps with that goal. As for Hyde, I wish the Bills would have been able to trade up for him. He would have been 3rd string this season, but would probably compliment Spiller in year 2. I do think the Bills should resign Spiller. It would be my guess that he would receive a reasonable salary. RBs have not received big deals recently.
  15. I actually liked how Kiper assigned the grades. Value and need are the only things you can assess at this stage. Know one knows how well these guys will play as pros. I love Watkins, but the Bills paid a lot to get him, so I can understand his value grade.. I do disagree with his needs grade. The Bills potentially filled several needs.
  16. First team All American. First team all SEC. Semifinalist for the Outland trophy. He was the guy I was hoping for after round 1 ended. To get him while picking up a 5th round pick seems like a good move for the bills.
  17. I think the 3.5 sacks is a meaningful stat. I watched Bruce Smith get doubled and tripled blocked for years, and he still got to the QB consistently. I wouldn't take Clowney with the 9th overall pick, let alone the first. As for the contract, he will make millions as a top 3 pick. I think it is probable that his effort will called into question. I think a first round pick needs to have great measurable and productive play. That is not the case with Clowney. I believe the Bills will end up with a better player at 9 than the team that takes Clowney.
  18. The best player in this year's draft only had 3.5 sacks last year. If this is the case I would trade all of this year's picks for picks in future drafts.
  19. I'm sure some of you guys are aware of this, but apparently the signing of released players doesn't count when the NFL determines compensatory picks. Some teams in fact have mastered the art of signing a large number of free agents while still receiving a large quantity of free draft picks. Is this something the Bills have tried? Have the Bills already lost out on the opportunity get a compensatory pick next year even though Byrd was lost?
  20. I don't think building a new stadium would be a good idea. The Bills don't generate a lot of money in comparison to other teams, but they profit more than others because they are not paying a huge mortgage payment on a new stadium. Add more bathrooms to Ralph Wilson stadium and it will be fine.
  21. ESPN had this story on its ticker. Do they usually post gossip, or do they have higher standards, meaning that there could be some truth to the story.
  22. The price to trade up to one would be expensive. I can only see them doing it to obtain a QB.
  23. Moving the Chains on Sirius NFL radio is doing a great job of celebrating the life of Ralf Wilson. Tune in if you can. It is amazing how much Mr. Wilson has done for the others and the NFL. Thank you so much Mr. Wilson.
  24. Who cares what the analysts think, the Saints thought he was worth it and they are a well run franchise.
