  1. Then you would draft another one next year and the year after, etc? I don't get this rationale.
  2. Yeah, but we are talking about Whitehurst who hasn't thrown a pass in the NFL. So your theory about showing decent in spot relief doesn't apply. If you think they traded for him seeing some pre season action, I would have to disagree. This kind of trade is more of an anomaly. With a team taking a crack at an unproven guy. And in my opinion an unwise, risky move. Drafting a QB every year to just show him in spot action for trade bait, is at the very least irresponsible.
  3. If nothing else, I think this is an indictment on Mitchell's time in Buffalo.
  4. Every year? How often do people get second round picks for their 3rd string QB?
  5. I totally agree, these type of high end talent players aren't on the roster. In other words building block players, where you build your offense or defense around them. I think the new regime knows that and will begin putting those players on our team starting in April. It's going to take some time folks. I get the feeling this front office knows what its doing.
  6. We are kind of agreeing here. I think the Bills and hope they stick with a guy like Edwards versus drafting a project, and wait until next year to address the position if Edwards or Brohm doesn't convince.
  7. Of course I'm not sure either, just a simple fan. But I get a feeling (call it a hunch), that teams won't commit around $35 million to a guy with real question marks.
  8. I agree with you on one point. I think Mitchell's less than disappointing play, might be coming to an end in Buffalo. I believe Davis was brought in to start, Michell will take issue with that, which is why I can see him getting released.
  9. I think its almost a certainty they sign a NT before the draft. As i've stated several times on this board, Nix was very clear about how he was going to handle free agency. He said don't expect any big name players, but more depth type players, and we will build this team through the draft. If nothing else I respect Nix for having a plan, and what appears to be sticking to that plan.
  10. This is my take on our QB situation going into the draft and subsequently into the year. I don't think we will have a shot at Bradford, which I know isn't groundbreaking thought, but just to get it out of the way, he won't be there at pick 9. I think Clauson will be there for us, not only do I think we pass but I think he is this years version of Rodgers and Brady. I think he's going to fall in the draft. Teams like Seattle and San Francisco will look at Clauson with their second 1st round picks at 14 and 17 respectfully, and I can see him possibly sliding all the way down to the Cardinals at 26. For you Tebow supporters (which I am one), I don't see us drafting him #9, again not a groundbreaking thought. But what it does mean is there are far too many suitors for Tebow between that #9 pick and our next pick. I just don't see a scenario working out where we can expect to have a realistic shot at Tebow. That now leaves us with the thought "do the Bills have someone else in mind", in regards to a franchise type QB? And here begins my concern. If the Bills don't have such a player in mind, he will be a project versus this is our "franchise" pick. I think there is a big distinction there for two reasons. The first being you don't all the way commit your franchise to this guy, if not for any other reason, he wasn't drafted high enough to be thought of as a full commitment. Secondly, if he is a project type QB, he will have to wait to play. My fear is that they draft a guy like say Skelton in the 4th or 5th round, that's not exactly a commitment as stated above, but rather we'd like to see if he works into a starter. Meaning you have to wait a couple of years before you know. It just takes these guys a while to develop, because they're usually not NFL ready. Hold on I'm getting to my point. We are then still in QB limbo, you go with what you've got (Edwards, Fitz, or Brohm) this year, but you eventually have to give some level of commitment to your draft pick. This means next year you probably will not draft one with a high pick again. And then before you know it, it's 4 years later before you know anything about the guy you drafted in the middle rounds assuming it takes him a couple years to get in there and play. If he doesn't work out, you start your search all over again. My final thoughts are that I would like the Bills to either make their move for an identified "franchise QB", and if he either isn't attainable in the draft, or you haven't identified one. Don't draft a project guy, and wait until next year. Fire away.
  11. Tebow won't be there in the second for us. There are way too many scenarios that I can think of. San Fran and Seattle have two picks in the first round and are seemingly in need of a QB. I could see Arizona at 26 taking him. In the second round you've got St. Louis there if they don't take Bradford as the #1 pick, Washington - Cleveland - Oakland and then Seattle again ahead of us. In addition, you have all the trade up and back scenarios as possibilities. For those of you who want Tebow (I may be one of you), I really feel like we will have to make a move to get him or just pick him at #9. For those of you who want nothing to do with getting Tebow, the odds are way in your favor as I see it playing out.
  12. Philip Rivers. Remember everyone was critiquing how he held the ball so low and his side arm delivery?
  13. I can't imagine a worse O-line situation than last year and Fred Jackson had over 1400 all purpose yards.
  14. Well that's what makes the Tebow argument so ambiguous. There are two different realms of opinion about him. Those that think he can learn how to throw like an NFL QB because of his determination and because of his leadership will make it in the NFL. And those that think his leadership qualities just won't be enough to make him an NFL QB due to his lack of pure QB skill. I'm of the thought that the leadership and determination is something that can't be taught, and he's not exactly a horrible QB, so he can learn the pro game, and become that franchise QB. But I do however understand the reverse argument, because I can certainly be wrong. Just that we haven't had a leader at that position since Flutie, and I'm desperate for that attitude of strength.
  15. Who let this guy out? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1MMXvU4O9OA
  16. When people make the comment "he's a winner", I don't think they mean it in terms of games won. A better word for what their trying to say is he's a leader. His supporters feel that he's a driven individual that you can't imagine failing.
  17. I think To will wait it out as long as he could before he would consider coming back to Buffalo. I'm sure he told Buffalo after the season that he was not interested in playing here again. My guess is that he did this behind closed doors and in a mature way so that the public wouldn't bash him. People just assume that the Bills told him they didn't want him back because they didn't offer him a contract. We never know the true story about what goes on in the front office. I would though love to have him back...
  18. I understand what you are saying but you need to step back for a minute and not bash Mr. Nix unless you know what goes on behind closed doors. You blame him for not going after free agents but you have KNOW idea how many FA's that the front office actually reached out to. The bottom line is that nobody wants to come to Buffalo. We are every players last resort. We were TO's last resort. You can't blame Nix for the last 10 years. Blame Mr. Wilson for making this organization a place where no one wants to come. Who wants to play for a team that never goes to the playoff; especially if you're a veteran? I mean the weather is awful and the team is even worse. The only way this team gets better is through several good drafts because you can't lure good players here...
  19. You don't sign many free agents in the first year of rebuilding.
  20. You come on a Buffalo Bills site to trash the City of Buffalo? Real mature.
  21. I have to disagree again. He's an inside linebacker and of our linebacker needs the inside is the least of them. We have Mitchell and Poz slated to start with Ellison and some 2nd year players ready to step up and be legitimate backups. Why pay a guy over 8 million a year, when its not of dire need? In addition Dansby is a good linebacker, that got elite money. Its a foolish move unless your a team very close to going deep in the playoffs. Maybe Miami thinks they are, we however are not. Then maybe this investment pays off. But it wouldn't be a prudent signing for the Bills, this would be the type of player the old regime might have signed. I think Buddy and company are too smart for that.
  22. Add another guy to the list of people that "GET IT".
