Chan's plan for training camp
Buffalonian-at-Heart replied to AxelRipper's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
While I understand these are concerns, but they have a addressed many of these positions. For the areas they haven't addressed they believe they will benefit from the other moves. You can't fix everything in one off season, especially when you're not sure if it was the player - scheme - how he was coached - etc. -
Hangartner did not hold his own. He got handled in the pass game. I'll agree we saw an upgrade over Fowler and Preston in the run game, but in the pass game Hangartner got destroyed.
-
I didn't say we don't need depth, but this team is far from looking at depth when it doesn't have decided starters at key positions. But if you think interior line depth is our biggest concern, what can I say.
-
I assure you interior line depth is not this teams biggest need of concern. Pick any of these before interior line depth; Which OLB is capable of creating a pass rush. NT in the 3-4 is being played by an undersized Williams / a Rookie Who is going to catch the ball? starting Left Tackle starting Right Tackle starting Center - Hangartner cannot handle the NT's in our division and is average at best Players learning new systems Can our DB's who thrived in a zone style Tampa 2, now become cover corners?

Jamaal Brown to the Redskins

Not that your point doesn't have some validity, but the overwhelming majority of teams have their LT as it's obviously one of the most important positions on the field. -

You are offering good debate and I'm not trying to debunk everything you say. But first of all what the Bills have done with the offensive line up until this past off season has nothing to do with the current regime, unless you're one of those Ralph Wilson won't let anyone build a winning team guys. Second, even if you did want to go that route, the Bills have worked on building the line every single year. So if we work on the line every single off season, what's the issue, why isn't our line tops in the league? Because our FO and coaching staffs the past 10 years sucked. I'm just saying give this group a fresh start, that's really the only option. -

Look I'm not saying its insane to trade for Brown. I'm just saying there's enough legitimate debate against trading for him to at the very least defend the competency of our FO in year one of their rebuild. -

Would you rather have Gaither or Brown? -

Fair enough point, but I disagree, I think giving up a 3rd is a bad deal. I think it sets us back. You get a guy that you have to give up picks for, that you have to sign to a lucrative extension, to only have that investment really mean anything a couple of years from now. Then he'd be that much closer to the downside of his career even if the chance you took on a player coming of season ending surgeries is healthy. -

Don't get me wrong its hard to stay positive with the frustration this team has brought its fans the last 10 years, but the focus has to be on that the new regime has nothing to do with the last 10 years. I know its difficult, but we as fans have to start over with them. It really is possible that Nix, Gailey, and company may know how to turn this team into a winner. I for one have been on board with just about everything they've done or for that matter haven't done. They clearly laid out tidbits of their plan to the fan base and so far have stayed absolutely true to it. They distinctly said they will not be cavalier with trading draft picks, they said they would only sign depth type players in free agency, they believe very strongly in competition at every position, and will build this team through the draft. Right, wrong, or indifferent they are sticking to the plan. I am on board with the plan, I understand their philosophy, and am approaching everything from what I think is their point of view. So I am trying to think like they might even in the Jamaal Brown situation. -

You have to. I come on here in hopes of chatting with guys like you (that get it) and have to weed through the fans that just react emotionally after every occurrence or non occurrence. So I find that commonality after all, it's just not with everybody, but we still have it. -

And you think the Bills are a 30 year old Lineman that is going to want a huge contract, coming off season ending surgery, that we have to mortgage a portion of our future to trade for, away from ........ (fill in the blank)? -

Well just look at it this way Pilsner. Common has more than one meaning, one is as you meant it occurring frequently or habitually. The other is commonalty or something shared equally by two or more. All we need is two or more to agree to have commonality, we're there. -

I know, which is all the more reason you can't add any risk to the equation, or at least as much as you can. Drafting a LT is one thing, trading to get one and giving up picks for one is another. Add in the injury risk and man I run for the hills on this one. Look at what the Redskins are risking by hoping this move works. -

Guys just consider this. Our new FO has a philosophy - stack players on top of players. You can't do that by trading your draft picks for 30 year old players. You do like the Saints did, put yourself in a position to trade a LT, because you got one ready to step up behind him. We have to be patient, Nix knows what he's doing. It's going to take time, which I know is difficult to do because that's all we've done as Bills fans, but I truly believe this regime is different. -

The only thing hurt is Brown. "Brown, a two-time Pro Bowl selection and the man responsible for protecting quarterback Drew Brees' blindside, underwent surgical procedures to repair a sports hernia and a hip injury last month and will miss the entire season, the Saints' release said." I'm not giving up a 3rd round pick, have to sign him to a huge long term deal, for a 30 year old LT coming off season ending multiple surgeries. -
8 in the box will still trouble Bill's Offense
Buffalonian-at-Heart replied to Chuckknox's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The line has to block. Every pass can't be a pre snap read. That's a little pie in the sky. All I'm saying is we had a poor line last year, even before the injuries and we haven't done a whole lot to address it. I agree that all of our opinions are conjecture at this point because we haven't seen the team play, but I think its a safe assumption the line is going to present issues for us this year. -

Buffalonian-at-Heart replied to Chuckknox's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I honestly think we are going to struggle offensively. I think in lieu of hiring an offensive head coach, the defense is going to be pretty good. That in turn will give the offense more opportunity and keep us in games. In saying that I think we will be much improved offensively or should I say organized. I think we are going to see good drives (imagine that) during games and throughout the season. We'll see a game plan. I think we will see flashes of an offense that could be consistent. But I don't think we will be consistent because of our overall lack of talent on the line and possibly QB play. Gailey is a talented play caller and he knows how to read and setup defenses. So we are going to see some cool stuff. I don't have a good read on our QB situation. I think our best chance is if Edwards emerges and if he does we may see even more consistency as I mentioned. But guys I'm here to tell you our O line is not good. And there's only so much you can do to overcome that. A lot of questions will be answered this year about going forward, and I think that's a positive, we will finally move forward. -
