  1. As a long-time Cubs fan I have to say it's not the same at all. The Cubs finally burnt the house down and rebuilt it with excellent players and a first-rate manager. When the Bills do that, we'll talk.
  2. Any organization that would bring in Rob Ryan is suspect.
  3. That's right. I was trying to remember exactly how we got him. I believe he was in that monumental trade of Greg Bell.
  4. I remember the days before the 90s (current team has nothing on some of those crapfests) and the glory days starting about 1988. We all believe they can be good again, but look around the league. Most teams are in the same boat as us. We just ran into some bad luck over the last decade and barely missed the playoffs a few times when we should have made them. Think about what it took to get those SB teams. 1. Fleecing of the Cowboys in that trade by Polian that got us a lot of good players 2. Taking a chance by drafting Kelly when he wasn't going to the NFL 3. Taking a chance on Thurman Thomas with that bad leg. 4. Chemistry between Marchibroda and Kelly 5. Able to build an OL before free agency came in. The success of the Patriots in light of everything is nothing short of incredible. Yeah there was cheating and probably still is, but they have build a system that seems to work and is not dependent on particular coaches or even personnel. I just hate them.
  5. Even at FSU, he mostly hit stationary targets and missed a lot of guys. His strength was his legs. In college he could always pull it down and get 9 yards.
  6. Enthusiasm is great. You're going to need it. I, however, do not predict a playoff season. The injury bug is already biting and this team can't seem to buy a break there. Also I have almost no confidence in Rex Ryan to make the type of smart decisions that push a pretty good team into the playoffs. On D, he still doesn't have the right players to run that weird scheme of his (outside contain, rush the middle, dropbox LBs). Will watch the games with you fine folks, but not setting myself up.
  7. I like it this pick for its value and the fact that he comes from a winning program. I have the feeling that kid from Dakota is in for a rude awakening.
  8. Umm. What about a guy named Bledsoe?
  9. Better as a one-day marathon with 7 rounds!!
  10. Fortunately I have so much to do right now that I just follow it online. The first and second rounds are quite interesting because there might be a day 1 player, but the other rounds are depth players and practice squad folks.
  11. ^^^^ This. Maybe someone can post the current starters who were 4th round picks.
  12. I don't check so frequently in the offseason, except for draft time, which gets later every year. I drop in tonight and see this? Bill, I respect your decision, but one of the few things that made a Bills loss slightly better was your recap. Yes, others have done this, but not in the same way. Well, all things must pass. I just hope the current coaching regime does so sooner than later. I share your pessimism about next season, but will root them on as always. My very best wishes for continued happiness to you and yours.
  13. Ok. I got the skinny on his name. His niece reminds me that "There was already a Bill Hudson, so they had to go by the shortened version of Richard. My dad was his older brother and Daddy couldn't say Richard (they were born less than a year apart) so he nicknamed him Cowboy Bill. The cowboy part dropped but the Bill stuck. That's why everyone around here knew him as Bill." flmike (Henry Co HS, Paris, TN class of '80)
  14. We knew him as Bill. http://www.parispi.net/news/local_news/article_8be318f2-e16c-11e5-a197-83a7e9316933.html?utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook&utm_campaign=user-share Here is his 1965 Topps card. http://www.remembertheafl.com/1965ToppsBills.htm#DickHudson
  15. Just heard that my former vice principal (Henry Co. High in Paris, TN) Bill Hudson passed away. He was a second-round pick by Chargers out of Memphis State in 1961 and was later traded to the Bills in '63. He was on the AFL championship teams and an AFL Eastern Div. All-Star for 1965. After his stint with the Bills he returned to Paris, TN and served as a football coach and vice principal in the 1970s. My classmate Ross was his son and QB of our team in the late 70s. He was a good man and the mere threat of a paddling from him kept us all in line. RIP "Buffalo Bill" Hudson. flmike
  16. And his younger brother (also a kicker) just early enrolled at FSU along with QB Malik Henry
  17. Have we learned nothing from history? A QB does not learn the game at the pro level. DB, line, maybe others, but QB needs to be a winner and have the basics down. Can't really coach that at the pro level. Remember EJ Manuel?
  18. I would prefer filling the ILB need via free agency as we need a smart, tough guy with experience to run the D. Draft a good extra, though.
  19. Bill, Let me echo the chorus of praises for your post-game comments. I always look forward to them. Take care and Happy New Year. Not sure what to expect next season. The D is a mess. I read that Mario cancelled the play call on that last play, which is why you saw Dareus finally rushing the passer. I hope Rex can find a way to make his system work with a 4-man DL TT looks like he will do until we find that "guy". He might even have enough to get us into the playoffs. Crossman has to go, as does Mr Thurman.
  20. Disappointing, but not unexpected. With a little better luck on the injuries and some better fitting personnel, things might improve. Like most of you, I will watch until it becomes unbearable. I'm curious to see how Brandon sells this turd, though. It will require all his skills. My prediction is that the Pegulas will see that and mostly empty stadium and boxes will lose them more money than cutting Rex loose. Just have to endure one more ugly season. 17 it is! Happy New Year, all. Your conversations make it all worth it.
  21. FSU Seminoles in 93, 99, and 2013. Knicks back in 1970, 73 (although I don't really follow NBA much these days).
  22. Not sure the Giants beat the Jets. They have improved quite a bit. Colts and Steelers is also iffy. Bills have to win, but they will need to run away from Watts all day and not make stupid mistakes on the field or on the sidelines.
  23. Getting a FA top-flight MLB would go a long way to retrieving this defense. Someone who can make others around them better and be a real leader on D. '91 Super Bowl for me. Never should have gotten to the FG attempt. That 3rd and 13 conversion is still etched in my brain.
