  1. Luck would be the only one. I have this feeling that Rodgers doesn't play as well on another team. No evidence, just a feeling.
  2. This is called playing scared. It won't work for long or against anyone good. If you want to burn clock, fine, but getting a first down more than once a quarter really helps.
  3. The whole season so far is not the game at hand. With a one-score lead (or two), you need to get first downs to control the ball. When your opponent knows what you are going to do and CAN stop you, you need to do something different. Very few teams are going to give you the ball 6 times and plead with you to score on them.
  4. Sigh... I thought we lived in a world of multi-tasking. Cannot one not enjoy a win and a defensive smack down and ALSO rightly note that had that smackdown not occurred, the football team from Buffalo would have been in a very tight game with a crappy team. How many times do I have to say "yay, we win" before moving on to more detailed conversations about football? BTW I'm not convinced that we have bad O-linemen. They are being given an impossible task in the modern NFL. I see low-level college blocking patterns that you can do when you are not seeing any DL stunts or masked blitzes. I feel for those guys.
  5. Love me a Bills win anytime, and I don't mind trying to establish a running identity, but when you aren't getting any first downs, you are giving the other team too many chances to come back. The Jets didn't take advantage, but I don't buy that Hackett predicted the D would shut them down completely. They were certainly having a tough time of it in the 2nd quarter. Up by 13 is not the time to be happy with 3 and outs.
  6. Yeah, I'm happy for a W, but the joy is a bit tainted with how lousy they looked all day. I give Boobie big props. When he was fresh, he was ripping off good runs up the middle. We need someone to spell him, who hopefully can block blitzers. Late in the game, the OL was just kicked around by the Minn blitzes. That needs to be fixed. Sadly it will take a new OL coach and OC... Two nailbiters in one weekend has me a bit jumpy. Go Noles and Bills!
  7. An interesting measure of talent. Why even make a post like this? You say "Bills fans" as if you are not one of them. This board is for Bills fans, last I heard. In any case, how on earth do stats measure a situation where good talent is being misused by the coaching staff? Finally, I wouldn't trade Fred Jackson for any running back in the NFL for a lot of reasons.
  8. +1 Schwartz was playing scared. Yes, KW was a bit gimpy, but if Brady is going to hit his receivers anyway, go after him and make it a bit harder. That's how you help a lame secondary.
  9. Folks we have a flawed football team, but it's headed in a good direction. We have some playmakers, but still enough dead wood to hold us back. It really sucks to get handled by the Pats again, but for once I don't have the sense that it needs to be blown up. A good OC will make use of these tools and we still need a couple of good coverage LBs and depth at safety. I thought the run looked decent today for as long as they could keep it up.
  10. I'm shocked that CJ had a better YPC than Fred. That just shows how useless that stat is and must be skewed by one good run. Fred made the plays that needed to be made. A low run-yards total was only because we got so far behind. When the game was close the Bills were running it really well with Fred and Boobie. Too bad they had to give up on it. Our "horrible" OL looked pretty darn good there during that TD drive. That tells me that Spiller is just too slow to the LOS. Maybe someone else can use him, but he's not much use to us. Orton looked like Orton. He's a stopgap and might just get lucky enough to win a playoff game if the D holds up. I feel for those guys. After the half, NE went to a quicker pass game and picked on our LBs and Safeties. We have to fix that.
  11. It's definitely huge. If the Bills fancy themselves as a playoff team, they can show it by beating a beatable team at home. That said, all bets are off when dealing with the Patriots, a team that knows how to win when it needs to. Not sure what happened in the Bengals game but I suspect Cincinnati was not as good as advertised even though they beat some good teams. In the NFL everything usually rights itself by the halfway point. The surprise teams get figured out and talent and good coaching end up winning out as usual. So, we will see if we have either on Sunday.
  12. Best way to stop a bad thread is to stop replying.... oops.
  13. Great win today! - Johnson was on the field only a decoy and sadly it worked a few times. - I was amazed at how quickly Orton realized what he needed to do. I'm convinced he ignored the calls on the sideline numerous times - Boy that Lions kicker was bad. Hope he finds fulfillment in life some day. He has to be disappointed that it didn't work out as an NFL kicker. - Teams win games in many different ways. Got a few breaks today for sure. Stole a game from a good team (when they find a kicker) - Lions OL must be even worse than ours
  14. I saw EJ his whole college career. Every game... Inconsistent is the best word. He succeeded when he burned teams by running. Covered a lot of ground in a hurry. Kept them honest and let him throw a few passes to some really good receivers (Hello, Mr Benjamin!). The Bills messed this kid up and now they are paying for it. They didn't use him for what he does best.
  15. EJ was very frustrating to watch while in college. I had hoped that he might develop in a different system, but I see a lot of the same issues. At FSU, his success came from his threat to run on any play. They don't let him do that here (another reason to fire these amateur offensive coaches) so he'd handicapped. He is NOT going to pass you to a win usually. They should have drafted Benjamin, a guy he knew well. I think this was the right move unless the staff was prepared to sacrifice the season to seeing if EJ could rise above his limitations. I'd rather watch them win games. I just went back and looked at Orton videos. Doesn't remind me of Jim Kelly, but he's efficient and seems to see the field well. Nice spiral on the ball and pretty darn accurate. He will not lose you games unless you ask him to win in the last minutes.
  16. HD over the air here in the West Palm Beach, FL area. I only get to see the Bills twice a year in my home since I told Comcast what they could do with their crappy over-priced product. BTW true HD can only be viewed over the air. Both satellite and cable compress the signal, with noticeable loss of quality. On another note, no one in the local Walmart was pleased to see me in my Bills shirt!
  17. Yeah, how did Miami not get several false start calls from both OTs? Great game!
  18. If you never Bruce, Darryl and Biscuit. This was what it was like.
  19. In the end, ain't it cool to have the Bills and Fish playing a really meaningful game? Just like the old days! Hope Kelly is there there to get them going and share stories of how intense this rivalry is.
  20. I'm heading over to Miller's Jupiter Ale House in Jupiter, FL to join the rest of the local Bills Backers! Hey the guy in Delray and Boynton should get together! Go Bills!
  21. Turning it off now. Like most seasons, they stink up the preseason but will come out swinging in the first few games. The challenge will be to see if they can adapt when everyone figures them out. Eh.. we'll see. All the momentum of new coaches and new QB is pretty much shot, though. They might play better this year, but they still don't have the horses to make the playoffs. Gonna need another QB, TE, and very tall WR. Should have drafted Benjamin. He and EJ worked well together at FSU.
  22. Again, they are really using EJ wrong. The success he had at FSU (I watched all the games, good and bad) was when there was a chance he would run. I thought they drafted him for this weapon. It's a limited one in the NFL but they really should use it or get someone more suited to the strategy they want to use. I had hopes for this coaching staff even with my reservations about their experience. Probably time to put Schwartz in charge and move on.
  23. Best draft pick of the century for us was Bruce Smith.
  24. Yeah, I watched him all last year and my strongest memory is him loping to the QB, seeing no hole and bouncing outside to lose 2 yards. I'm not sure why everyone wants to keep him so badly. We should all know not to trust our eyes in preseason anymore. In fact, everyone should just stop watching the 1st quarter. Everything changes once the regular season starts.
