Yeah, at this point I've aged out of any other marketable skills and the golden handcuffs get tighter every year. If we're on the same wavelength like I assume, I can tell you my region is decent for pay/benefits but tough on the mental health. But I know some guys who lateraled out to other states/regions and are much happier now. Just not an option for me so I'm making the best of what I got.

Well, not everyone.

Work is work. It allows me paid time off and some disposable income to spend with my family. Time with my family is satisfying. That said, my resume is always fresh. I've changed things around a few times. Took interviews, took reassignments within my agency. The way I look at it, as long as I maximize my income potential in my line of work and work isn't making me actively miserable I can pretty much handle whatever.
