Soft on crime Democrats - the system is the problem?
LeviF replied to Big Blitz's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Yeah, if I had my druthers, the guy would have been in an asylum long ago if the chatter about his mental health is true. But this is another consequence of the ethos of "care" and "harm reduction" that we seem to have fallen into regarding addicts and the insane. There are absolutely times where you may, under the letter of the law, kill someone, sometimes intentionally! What we do know about Neely is that he was often a threat to people on the train. I'm not sure if this was the case this time, but this case certainly has a higher likelihood of "defense of others" than do other homicide investigations. Now generally I think that the residents of New York City are getting what's coming to them when they have their lives threatened by insane vagrants on public transportation. It's all part of that vibrant city life they've been asking for. The law doesn't quite feel the same way. -
Soft on crime Democrats - the system is the problem?

They have “Dr. Strong” take care of it for them during a crisis. Note that by “intervene” I mean physically insert themselves into the crisis situation rather than extricate themselves. Edit to add: and even if your scenario were both effective and possible (it isn’t) then the same problem exists: response time. The average subway patron is not required to be an orderly in the open air asylum leftists (defund and defang police) and neocons (close the dedicated mental health facilities) have worked hand in hand to create. -

Mental health therapists don’t intervene in this kind of situation *in a mental hospital.* What makes you think they’ll intervene on the street or in a subway? -

In the functioning moderate liberal world, people like Neely would be dealt with by trained professionals. But leftists got mad at the trained professionals so here we are. -

People like Neely would murder you for the 40 bucks in your wallet after being cut a felony appearance ticket for the 35th time with 30 open warrants for no showing his court date and then tell the cops he “didn’t mean to.” Subways are no go zones for about 35% of NYC residents. Unfortunate that this marine didn’t understand this before deleting a magic American and getting the inevitable witch trial from the local Soros DA. -
What is better, no guns, or more guns?

Yeah. In the entire nation, in fact. It’s federal law. -

AK, WY, RI, other small pop states' rates can be thrown off pretty quickly after a couple murders, meaning lots of variance year over year in the per 100k numbers. AK also has a relatively large NA population which also trends high in homicides. -

Alito has a "pretty good idea" who leaked Dobbs opinion.
LeviF replied to BillsFanNC's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Let's go down this road: A lawyer and jurist with decades of experience and degrees from some combination of Princeton, Yale, and Harvard looked at the decision, said "you know, there might be an issue with security once this is released," and instead of quietly increasing security close to decision drop or simply waiting until the justices had cleared the building before dropping it like a bomb as they scooted off for their end-of-term vacation decided to leak the decision, betraying their office, their fellow justices, and the profession they've built their lives around and climbed to the highest pinnacle of, three months in advance? To justify putting a fence up for three months when a week would have been sufficient at the end of the term? And you think this is more likely than some bigmad leftist shrike with all of six months of a clerkship under their belt as their law "practice" experience dropping it to a left-friendly reporter? Big brain stuff indeed. Yeah, as detailed above, that's definitely the simplest answer. This is @ieatcrayonz level occum's shaver type stuff. -

You implied that they needed a leak to get security in place. That is demonstrably false. The big brain logic that leads to thinking like "hmm we need to bolster security, but our press rep who never takes questions and produces about 20 releases a year would face humongous pressure to answer for it! What should we do???" is fairly common in the federal government but unlikely in the one room where the mean IQ is probably somewhere around 135. -

The Supreme Court has their own federal police force which answers to the Court only. Your suspicion is based on a faulty premise. In re Totenberg, she was caught out already, as I described here: -
You can see the socioeconomic factors take hold of their brains in real time.

BS? Gun homicide death rate for white, non-hispanic is 2.1 per 100,000. On par with the rates for Nebraska, Colorado, and Connecticut. Still much larger than the say the European Union as a whole, but with more guns than people in the USA. Does the presence of guns mean more deaths? Absolutely. Is the bulk of the gap between the US and other high income countries attributable to guns only? Clearly not. Consider these two statements and how you literally can't do the second without considering the implications of the first. What will deter people from joining gangs if they can't comprehend the consequences of their actions to begin with? -

As I’ve stated repeatedly, the solutions are there, just not the gumption to implement them. Toss gang members in prison for the max plus the fed gang escalator and you’ll see the gap close. -

Don't bother man. "Mass shootings" include black-initiated gang shootings when they want to pump the numbers up. "Mass shootings" are curtailed and curated to only include white MKULTRA participants who shoot up schools and synagogues when they want to demonize whites. You'll never have an honest conversation with them on the topic. -

Blacks and whites have equal access to guns. Hell, because of felony conviction rates you could argue that blacks have less access to firearms. Yet criminal shootings are mostly a black problem, as we’ve established in the various crime threads. -
For you just walking up to them would work!

You and a few buddies heading out to the bar, great! Bar is crowded, boo! Quickly free up some seats by obnoxiously hitting on women seated at one of the high tops or at the bar.
