Cruz 2016 is actually the best comparison I can find for DeSantis 2024: middle aged guy with a good conservative track record and qualifications with all of the right things *on paper*, but none of the charm, charisma, or timely levity required to sway the hoi polloi on the debate stage or in the primaries.
