Williams speech/Alton/Philando/Dallas shootings
LeviF replied to Maury Ballstein's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
His question was far more limited in scope than your answer was. You claimed that there are years and years (including currently) of systemic persecution. "Outlook" is often very different from reality. I have no doubt that the children and grandchildren of folks who participated in the civil rights movement received a different lesson on the police than I got as a kid. Whether or not that was appropriate is another matter entirely, and you say it is. I know you have no issue with conspiracy theories, but think of how far up it would have to go in order for there to be a current, systemic attempt at "keeping minorities in check." The laws of the 1950s and 60s were what they were. It was systemic then. The laws of today are what they are. It's a high bar to jump over to get to "systemic" today. I know a lot of that sounds like petty semantics, but I think it's incredibly important to define what we're talking about. Saying that "racism" is the issue driving police misconduct is, I think, highly unproductive and probably even counterproductive. -

Levi and Old Levi will be there. Won't be parking at Hammer's but we'll wander by. -

So this "segment of the population" you were talking about is black septuagenarians? -

LeviF replied to Maury Ballstein's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Perhaps, but none of those images provide evidence of a "systemic" issue. Of course, in fairness to you, proving that it's a "systemic" issue is next to impossible, even if it is system-wide. On the other hand, police misconduct is a complex issue with many facets, and pushing "rayciiiissssss" is like putting a round peg in the middle of a much larger star-shaped hole. Sure, it might be a part of it, conceivably, but claiming that it's what makes up the whole thing is stupid. -
Saw Sir Paul McCartney last night in Philly

You mean you saw Sir Paul McCartney's (RIP) look-alike last night in Philly. -
50% of all fresh produce in America is thrown away
LeviF replied to \GoBillsInDallas/'s topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
The sheer amount of food we throw away is awful. Not just consumers either. I had a client, a homeless guy, once who ate almost exclusively from the dumpsters of local supermarkets. One day he brought some of his haul to show me what he meant: day-old baked goods (I'm talking whole cakes, boxes of cookies, muffins, danish, you name it), slightly bruised fruit (I'm talking cardboard boxes filled with it) as well as whole bags of oranges and apples. He said he's seen whole cartons of eggs and loaves of bread too. One of the grocery stores around here (Hannaford, I think) has started selling the uglier produce at a lower cost. The apple orchard I get cider and donuts from sells half bushels of "second" apples, the ones they don't put out in the regular bags of nice apples, for use in baking/sauces/whatever. I just eat them after cutting out a spot or two, usually. -
8:00am-3:30pm (9:00am-4:30pm when I have to cover later reports) M-F with a half hour lunch that I rarely take. If I catch a report late in the day or have a late home visit scheduled I'll clock some overtime. I'm on call while the office is closed (CPS never sleeps) usually two days in a row once per month. I'll usually clock somewhere between 10 and 20 hours of overtime while on call. 15 minute commute currently, end of the month I'll be moving and will have a 10 minute walk to work.

Careful, you might cut yourself on all that edge.

Good MMQB piece by Injury-Prone Journeyman Shwartz
LeviF replied to Saxum's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Back when the local ESPN affiliate radio station still had a decent afternoon show, Geoff Schwartz was a regular guest. Smart guy and a good candidate to have a nice career in radio or TV after he's retired from the NFL. -
Bless me father, for I have sinned. I've never been to confession before. I took a beer out of the refrigerator at my neighbor's home without putting another one in to chill.

Hey man, you didn't want any advice.

Hell of a career, and one of the last guys who made the NBA watchable.

Any interesting obscure movies since 2013 worth mentioning
LeviF replied to Juror#8's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I saw "The Lobster" in theatres a couple of weeks ago. Kind of a black comedy/science fiction fusion. I enjoyed it quite a bit. If I can think of any others I've seen recently I'll pop back in. -

You know at least as well as I do that you can't reason someone out of an emotional position. And that goes for both "sides" of this ridiculous, weird, black-and-white (no pun intended) argument. -

Get a grip, folks. He's making fun of you. Kirby's post above would have been excellent if he only submitted the first line. -
So you're definitely getting hitched but haven't proposed yet?

The Mizzou/Yale/PC/Free Speech Topic

Eh, I think it's both. But when it comes to boomer resistance to social security reform self-centeredness would be more accurate. -

This. Boomers killed America. Those 20/30-somethings you hate are the natural result of boomer greed, entitlement (yes, entitlement; boomers are by far the worst offenders when it comes to entitlement. See: social security reform), and overall leftist thought. -
Taco Bell has really been upping their game all around the last couple of years. I go maybe once every couple of months and haven't had a bad experience in a very long time.

I like the new unis. That said, I thought the "controversy" over having "NEW YORK" on the old jersey was rather silly. They are the only SUNY school with a FBS team.

Wanted to add this in case anyone forgot: this is yet another sci-fi movie that our resident writer (Greg) was not asked to contribute to.

Chic-Fil-A has reportedly been scouting locations and recruiting possible franchisees for my area (NY capital district) and I'm curious as to how that friendly service will translate up here. Love going there on road trips through the south, but people are generally more pleasant in the south.
