I'm genuinely curious, how is allowing players to sit out the anthem completely forcing patriotism on them? And what does a workplace code of conduct have to do with "taking away freedom?"

Shurter is a known lunatic. And the SRA moral panic was just that, a moral panic. Pedophilia, child prostitution rings, and child abuse are very real. Don't diminish that fact by giving charlatans like Shurter your time or energy.

That may be. But historically the moderation of "political" posts in the regular forum has been less than ideal and many posts that were at the very least dog whistles towards certain political topics went untouched while responses in kind were removed and/or dealt suspensions/warnings for.

They get the notification that they've been quoted. They are more than welcome to attempt to defend their viewpoint here.

I have a friend I met in college who was home-schooled straight through high school. He was involved in some sort of home school "network" of parents and kids who would get together two or three times a week for play and whathaveyou. Then when he reached high school age he was able to play on his district's high school sports teams just the same as everyone else. Not sure how ubiquitous it is but there are options out there.

As with many hot-button political issues, the "save one child" mantra is effective leftist rhetoric here. So the response when someone asks "how many children must suffer/die before we do _____________" is incredibly important. And that response is "all of them."
