  1. USA: "The circle is now complete. When we left you, we were but the learners. Now we are the masters." UK: "Only the masters of obesity, Yanks."
  2. The things I absolutely will not skimp on at the grocery store are condiments (including oils and vinegars) and deli meats. Big, recognizable brands only.
  3. His takes can be dumb but for my money he still does some of the best interviews in the game.
  4. That I'm helping to gentrify. Now with breweries!
  5. Took tomorrow off. Golf with beer and cigars followed by more beer at a friend's place. Girl taking me to brunch on Saturday, after that more drinking, not sure where yet. Might take a break on Sunday. Might not. Monday golf with beer and cigars with a BBQ in the afternoon. Then up early Tuesday morning to go to the city for work.
  6. Resurrecting this thread because I found this take on identity politics: While Juror presented his questions without commentary or thesis, there are many who would present those questions with the thesis "it's bad for straight white men to participate in identity politics" outright stated and the idea that it's ok for black folk, LGBT folk, etc. to participate in identity politics implied. My only commentary is this: if straight white men are beginning to act more "tribal," in the sense of voting as a group rather than as individuals and embracing identity politics, look for the Left and the "moderate" Republicans to start decrying identity politics loudly and with great fervor within the next few years.
  7. And that's the case in almost every profession, and reasonable accommodations are made for religious and other affiliations (and disabilities). But the ADA doesn't guarantee a paraplegic a QB1 job, and the First Amendment doesn't guarantee a devout Christian will be able to get paid for a job that requires working on Sunday.
  8. Stop moving the goalposts. Is this a con law or a contract law issue? Pick one and stick to it, don't play silly motte and bailey games. Again, "reasonable accommodation" is the standard. Not working on 15/16 days you're supposed to really show up is not a reasonable accommodation.
  9. It's a "reasonable accommodation" standard. Could he have been compelled? Yes, but who was gonna fire Sandy Koufax?
  10. I'm represented by a union at my job. When our contract runs out we often hold demonstrations. My employer does not allow me to go to these demonstrations on work time. Work time is from the time I leave my home for the start of my shift until the time I get home from work at the end of my shift. If I attend demonstrations on work time, I can be suspended, placed on a lesser duty, and/or charged PTO. These are reasonable limits on my right to assembly. Same goes for NFL players.
  11. You're moving the goalposts again. My point was that the players aren't being forced to be patriotic. They are welcome to sit in the locker room without consequence. Whether it's a hypocritical money grab or not (I don't necessarily disagree with you there) has nothing to do with that one point.
  12. Well educate us already, what do these things say about workplace codes of conduct at private companies?
  13. See but now you've given him ammo to move the goalposts again. It never ends. First it's "muh freedoms" then it's "well they don't do it where you work" soon it will be something else ridiculous to cover up the fact that he believes, in truly mind-numbing fashion, that a private entity having a workplace code of conduct is infringing on 1st Amendment rights.
  14. A Sabres game is a sporting event. 26 is stupid, but he moves the goalposts enough to cover it up pretty well.
  15. I'm genuinely curious, how is allowing players to sit out the anthem completely forcing patriotism on them? And what does a workplace code of conduct have to do with "taking away freedom?"
  16. Saw Deadpool last night. Great film, I wouldn't put it entirely on par with the first but IMO it's very close. Two red band trailers in my screening, one for Happytime Murders and one for Sorry to Bother You.
  17. There's always the China method. Show trial, then drag them out back and cap them over a pit.
  18. I know you're short but I had no idea that would go so far over your head.
  19. Very loosely, I have a "skin in the game" mindset. Landowners, members of the military, registrants for selective service, net taxpayers, some combination of the above, etc. It's not well-formed yet.
  20. A mod who isn't Darin locking a thread?! Outrageous! I am outraged! We the people of PPP demand proof of life! We will have no mod but Darin! -----------------------------------------------E Got my pitchfork! Feel free to copy and paste so you can have one too. FORWARD!
  21. It may well be, and I'm not saying that there is no truth to it. Shurter long ago exposed himself as a fraud in the Franklin Files community and associates with convicted sex offenders.
  22. I suppose I object to your characterization of him as a "survivor." He's a survivor of his own pathological narcissism, nothing more.
  23. Shurter is a known lunatic. And the SRA moral panic was just that, a moral panic. Pedophilia, child prostitution rings, and child abuse are very real. Don't diminish that fact by giving charlatans like Shurter your time or energy.
  24. I have a friend who is a true love-child. Her parents were both married to other people when she was conceived! They each divorced, then married each other, 23 years strong now. She has 8 half siblings and reunions are a blast.
