  1. Any opportunity to wave their virtue flag around. "Look guys! I don't think beating up women is a good thing! Am I a good boy now???"
  2. Uh, making the allegations?
  3. The Duke lacrosse team is on line 1 for you. And a Mr. Reuben Foster is on line 2.
  4. Shady is not required to do anything except answer to his employer. He doesn't owe us ****, especially if these allegations are as untrue as they seem on their face.
  5. Yep. Welcome to 2018 journalism. Some ho posts a picture accusing a millionaire of something awful and it's automatically news. The press is dead and social media killed it.
  6. In theory, this is true. In practice, this is obviously not the case. As the USSC has become more political, the confirmation process has as well. Candidates rated well by the ABA often sailed through Senate confirmation. Scalia, Kennedy, Souter, and Ginsburg all received 90+ votes at confirmation. As recently as the early 1900's many justices were confirmed by voice vote. This will likely never be the case again.
  7. As it stands the Senate is currently at 51-49. In the unlikely event that Rand Paul and Ted Cruz follow through on their threats to vote no on Kavanaugh, the vote to defeat the filibuster will likely never happen.
  8. It may well be necessary to woo some red state Dem senators over to the "yes" side for this nomination. While I do think the Republicans who claim that they will oppose Kavanaugh are mostly bluster, they have less ground to stand on if Kavanaugh gets a couple of blue dogs on his side.
  9. If she can get a couple more years in on the Circuit to get some more opinions under her belt, tapping her to replace Thomas in, say, two (or three ) years might be the move.
  10. In this case, it eases Dem fears about Roe v. Wade being overturned. I think it's bad precedent. But Kavanaugh's statements about Roe have been couched enough that they might not mean anything at all. We will see.
  11. I started getting the feeling it would be Kavanaugh earlier today. Longer track record as a judge, better pedigree. Time will tell how he does. Not so odd, considering the squawking that Dems have been putting up. Kavanaugh is ostensibly a fan of stare decisis and clerked for Kennedy back in his youth. If I had to bet I'd say his Supreme Court record, compared to current justices, will end up looking most like Alito's.
  12. Working out is essentially my meditation. Runners' high and what have you. I only shower with cold water, and sit underneath it for 10 minutes or so doing a sort of meditation...no mantras or anything just trying to clear my head while simulating some stress and discomfort. Since I started doing that I find that I deal with everyday stresses without really getting stressed at all, and major life events (death in the family/of a close friend, losing a job, moving, etc.) affect me much less than they used to.

  14. It's gonna be "Equalizer 2" and indie flicks for me this month, if any of them look decent.
  15. Always keep two in the kitty. The ability to easily say "next" when a trick is acting up is a cure-all for their ****.
  16. I was on the "just say no" train with regard to Hardiman filling Scalia's seat. My opinion hasn't changed.
  17. You're right, in many cases the impact of the false accusation was much greater than any impact the crime would have had had it actually happened. Good for Gareon. Punch back with everything you got.
  18. I'm not terribly fond of Kethledge. Kavanaugh could go either way. Barrett is as close to a sure thing that conservatives can get with the three "front-runners" named in the article. There are knocks on her: lesser pedigree in ND Law school, member of a fringe ecumenical Christian group, little experience as a judge (which generally means less predictability for future rulings). Clerking for Scalia helps ease worries, as do several writings of hers outside of her time on the bench.
  19. Shhh, don't pre-empt the nerd rage.
  20. Based on his personal behavior, I would go with this one.
  21. And was cancelled because it was a bad show. Fun concept though.
  22. There are several "Anglican" churches that have split off as they disagreed with the slide towards theological liberalism in the Anglican communion. The ACNA, for example, is made up of conservative former members of the Episcopal Church and the Anglican Church of Canada.
  23. The American portion of the Anglican Communion.
  24. Satire that is far too close to reality on occasion. The Episcopalian Church no longer resembles the historic, orthodox faith. Hyperbole aside, that is my point, which I thought was easily recognized.
  25. I have Lawrence v. Texas on line 1 for you. And the Episcopalian Church holding on line 2.
