The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19
LeviF replied to Hedge's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
It's important to understand that mis/disinfo doesn't just come from the Chinese government. I'm willing to bet that most of the pictures we are seeing of sick/dead people in China are not from this outbreak. There's a lot of uncertainty thanks to the Chinese constantly lying, but public health interventions most certainly make infection reproduction numbers go down - even in 3rd world conditions. I've seen R numbers for this virus anywhere from 2.5 to 3.8. By comparison, measles is anywhere from 12 to 18. Is it bad? Yeah - but it's mostly bad because the Chinese were more concerned about saving face than they were saving lives. Luckily we don't have the same kinds of issues with our government that the Chinese have. -

Interesting question posed on the Dan Patrick show - whose career would you rather have, Marino's or Eli's? One guy is indisputably one of the greatest passers to ever play the game, but came up short of Super Bowls (one appearance, got blown out). The other guy is remembered for a lot of mediocre seasons and overshadowed by his big brother BUT has two rings and two Super Bowl MVP's with some amazing playoff performances. I'm taking Eli's career in a heartbeat. Dan Patrick wants Marino's and I think that's an all-time hot take. To end up at the very pinnacle of your sport not once, but twice? No way I'm turning that down. Marino may be one of the best to ever throw the football but nothing compares to hardware. I'll blind the haters with the shine from the rings. The $250M doesn't hurt either.

It's amazing what one can find on the internet given a few pieces of information. Before I started showing up to TBD events I figured out who a number of regular posters were. Curiosity I guess. But I never felt the need to share that information with anybody or make threats based on it. Airing someone's dirty laundry, via posts or PMs, no matter how public the record may be, should be a permaban. I fail to see how most of the things we've referenced in this thread have any effect on discourse. You have an ignore list; if you really think that person shouldn't be engaged with you're free to not engage them. -

So let's see if I have this straight: Virginia legislators and governor introduce a ton of gun-grabbing bull####. Citizens of the Commonwealth are like "uh no, and we're voting you all out next chance we get." So the government responds by introducing a bill eliminating voter ID. So the citizens go, well ***** that, we're going to petition your removal from office by collecting the signatures of 10% of the prevailing vote. So they introduce a bill raising the amount of signatures needed from 10% to 25%. The government does whatever it wants and it won't let them vote them out of office or remove them from office, AND takes away their ability to arm a militia to force them out of office. If that's not tyranny, I don't know what is. -
Where former NYS residents move to

Yeah, most states are gonna get theirs one way or another. NYS is criminal though. Top third in everything I believe (median sales tax, median property tax, median income tax). -

Oh nothing. I was wondering why. I imagine climate is completely different depending on what part of the state you're in.

This reminds me of the time OCinWherever "Ok Boomer"ed me before "Ok boomer" was a thing. A man truly ahead of his time. Dude I get making the jump from CA but why Idaho?

Babies from before the smoking ban were a Million Times Tougher and had a Million Times more Testosterone than the Millenial "guys" of Today. This is Settled Science.

The best film directors and trumpet players are heavy smokers. Most people are just not willing to come to Terms with this.

There were far fewer fatties before The Smoking Ban. Something to consider.

Just looking at this year, it seemed like everyone had "the guy" they wanted to hire. For the Cowboys it was McCarthy (interviewed him and Marvin Lewis). For the Panthers (and Giants) it was Rhule. Rivera for Washington (though he is a minority, I think it still goes to the point). The Browns seem to be the only ones who are interviewing a lot of guys and taking some time to do so.

Did you get a termination letter for her? There should be a window to renew still after that termination letter arrives. And anyway, aren't the social workers supposed to help patients take care of that stuff? A kid on one of my open cases got killed by his mom's boyfriend not even 72 hours after I'd last seen them back when I worked for CPS. It's all relative, man. -

The Black Panthers would like to have a word with you. In any case, you're missing the forest for the trees. Armed resistance is what gave us back the right to self-government that had been trampled on via tyranny. -

And what happens when they take away your right to vote? What option do you have left if they've taken your every ability to resist? -

As you point out, voters are influenced by lots of things. It's okay to think that things aren't right with our government on multiple fronts. But let's not pretend that there aren't multiple groups of people out to influence you. The voters (and electors) made Donald Trump president too. It's not A did this and B did that. It's A and B did this and then B and C did that. A and C are just different influences. I'm not conceding anything re: Russia and the reach of their influences one way or another in 2016 but it's useful to make a point. Why do A and C want to influence B (the voters) so much? What are they after? And, back to the thread, who does it benefit to strip Americans of their ability to exercise their natural right to armed resistance? I don't necessarily know the answers but I believe that the less the government impedes on my natural rights, the better. The natural right to armed resistance leaves a lot of options on the table, which was the reason the founders explicitly protected it.
