There's a lot of reasons why hiring sucks right now and pay is a factor in a lot of areas. FHP starts at like $15/hr to do traffic stops of Florida Men in 100 degree heat. That's insane. Many agencies are down people right now. NYPD down 8%, NYSP down about 10% at the moment and you can tell. My agency is down 10%. There are big city PDs in the south that are 30 or 40% down. When you're down 30% of sworn personnel it's almost impossible to catch back up without dropping standards. And most places have dropped standards significantly in the past 50 years already.
