Tbh you might get flamed for the military comparison but urban police in many places are basically an occupying force with the justification for their presence being high rates of violent crime. Some cities have tried mitigating this by recruiting more locals but it’s tough sledding, especially now. Oh btw tibs I just googled it and apparently court tv has a free app for fire stick, roku, etc. Not sure if the live content is free but worth a shot.

In any case looks like still cases in the double digits, more and more of them seem fine with rolling with their real names.

I think several cases have to be dropped and re-filed due to a judge saying that the cases need to have real names attached.

Of the 1000 people killed by police officers every year, an extremely small fraction of those are unjustified. Daunte Wright is one of about five black men who get killed without justification by a police officer per year. Basically the odds of being struck by lightning. It's impossible to "do better" in this regard. It's down to the level of a freakish act of nature. And yet it's the core justification for overturning the way our criminal justice system works. The "progressive" movement isn't one of science or facts - it's one of emotional manipulation. Which is why it's working. When local police are abolished or defunded, they won't be replaced by social workers. This is a bait and switch. Local police will be replaced by national goon squads that bully normal people over what we would consider trivial stuff. This is what the progressive movement actually wants, because local police and sheriff's departments are some of the last institutions that wield violence outside of the national regime's control. The regime doesn't actually want to prevent police shootings, they want to employ them against their chosen targets.

Frankly I'm not sure how an external safety would help anyway. Cops that carry handguns with external safeties are trained to switch it to "fire" from "safe" during the draw. If your gun is out of the holster it should be ready to fire. Even drawing down is considered use of force and needs to be justified as such. If you're drawing your firearm and not switching the safety to "fire" you're essentially using your gun as a threat instead of what it is: a deadly weapon.

Anyone who talks about disproportionality in police shootings with regard to race who doesn't also mention this well-documented fact (not to mention homicides of police officers) is being deliberately deceptive in the interest of maintaining a narrative. They really aren't worth engaging with on any significant level. Not if they carry a Glock. No external safety.

Every nation on earth has a police force that carries guns in at least some capacity. Without the ability to use deadly force, law enforcement is impossible.

You do realize that placing handcuffs on someone is physical man on man contact, right? It doesn’t have to be violent but that’s what it is. And it’s also the point at which the situation is most likely to go south. And when that happens you’re too close for a taser to be effective. You got hands and feet and your body weight and fighting know-how at that point.

So abolish the police. Got it. Just for kicks do you know how many “bad shoots” of African Americans there are per year?

I don’t know about Gaetz and Kavanaugh but statutory is still rape, still a crime, and absolutely should be categorized as such, complete with registration. Frankly I’m not that interested in what the right and left and up and down have to say about it. Ignore the confidence in the stats all you want, but you won’t find solutions until you acknowledge the problems.

To your first point, we train officers that you don’t make contact with a subject in a vehicle that can still move. Ain’t ***** worth getting dragged. You can find the shitbag at a later date because he’ll never stop being a shitbag. And what happened to Daunte Wright is the direct result of neglecting and underfunding training for cops. All that being said, if you comply you never get an accidental stress response like the one young Mr. Wright received. No, he was trying to run from a felony warrant.

Regarding making the decision now, they can still revisit at some point later on but this is probably done after consulting with the governor's office.
