Deeply Concerned for Our Country
SageAgainstTheMachine replied to scribo's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
F.W. de Klerk was instrumental in ending apartheid, regardless of his motives or what kind of man he was. And Arafat, well it's wrong to say he's redeemed, but the Oslo Accords were a pivotal moment at the time and I won't say those men didn't deserve the award. On another note, you seem intent on flaming me and calling into quesiton my intelligence on several topics...did I do something to offend you? I mean, in all fairness you could have stopped at "Arafat redeemed? de Klerk?" -
I never said I wouldn't vote for McCain because Palin is unqualified, I said I wouldn't vote for McCain because Palin is an absolute idiot. I said that Palin lists the PTA as a qualification of leadership. That was an example of an asinine thing she said, not me attacking her qualifications. Obama, on the other hand, is both intelligent and an eloquent speaker. I'd much rather have an intelligent/capable person in office than one who is qualified. You are acting as if I said I was going to vote for McCain until he chose Palin. I said that I was undecided, but leaning toward Obama and that this pushed me over the edge. Also, I lost respect for McCain when he chose Palin. Clearly, he didn't choose the best candidate for VP, he simply chose somebody who he though might garner some celebrity and perhaps steal the votes of some Hillary supporters. (This worked for a while in the polls, but doesn't seem to be any more.) And no, I'm not a Hotelie, but don't disrespect them because they work hard just like everybody else here. Besides that, I won't pander to you and defend myself as an intelligent person against your insults. From what you said about sending a check to Cornell, I'll assume you went here? Frankly that makes me more worried about the alumni than the current students.

well they move in the sense that the Sun also "moves"...they appear to move due to the earth's rotation...and from a practical visible standpoint, thats analogous to movement in another regard though, the universe is expanding and EVERYTHING is moving

Yeah, a great man but unfortunately not so effective as a president. I say when you get a Nobel Prize, you're redeemed though -
It depends upon how you define "fan". Given the sheer population of Toronto (It would be the 5th largest city in America), that statistic might be pretty close to true. But in terms of season ticket holders, people who live and die by the Bills, and people who never miss a single snap of a single game...those people are relatively concentrated around WNY and the surrounding areas.

I hope, for your own sake, that this is tongue in cheek. If a candidate is not even smart enough to PRETEND that they know a single periodical (honestly, she couldn't even bullsh*t an answer and say she read Newsweek or the Wall Street Journal or anything), I don't care if that person is a woman, man, hermaphrodite, or what have you...I am NOT potentially making that person the most powerful person in the world.

Wow, he did have a good game, but offensive player of the week??? Trent was 10 times more instrumental in his team's win. -
Tim Russert Article
SageAgainstTheMachine replied to SageAgainstTheMachine's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Thank you very much for responding to my post of a well-written, emotionally charged article by attacking my agnostic religious beliefs and implying that I'm going to hell. I don't judge you for your beliefs, so don't judge me for mine, ok? -
http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=Apsn...o&type=lgns This is a very well written article (something I'm not familiar with seeing from Yahoo Sports) about Tim Russert and his relationship with the Bills. If there's a heaven (and I don't happen to believe there is), Russ is smiling down on his 5-1 Bills from it. Let's Go Buffalo!! And do it for Tim.

I consider myself a political moderate and I am registed independent as a voter. I am not a fan of McCain, and I am not a big fan of Obama either, though I've long thought of him as the lesser of two evils. However, my mind was made up 100% to vote Obama with McCain's VP selection. The fact is that, McCain might appear to be in good health, but when you elect a 72 year old man to be president you have to accept the distinct possibility that he will die of natural causes in office. Who knows how close he is to a major stroke or heart attack? And if that was the case, then the leader of the free world would be a woman who can't name a single American periodical, considers Alaska's proximity to Russia to be foreign policy experience, and thinks being a PTA member is one of her qualifications for leadership. Besides that, she just comes across as a complete idiot whenever she speaks. I'm aware that it's partially due to her accent, which it's wrong to judge somebody about...but half of what she says is just political right-wing buzzwords. Bottomline is, I CANNOT with good conscience vote for McCain knowing his veep could very well be handed the presidency some day. Anybody with me?

True that, man, true that. But we should win by more than two points IMO...

Quarterback a gunslinger or game manager
SageAgainstTheMachine replied to BillsWatch's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You do realize that DJ Gallo does nothing but satirical material (albeit not funny) and that he isn't actually analyzing the quarterbacks? I read that chart about a week ago, but I believe his reasoning for naming Trent a game manager is that he went to Stanford. It's all just a (bad) joke. -
So just because Walsh met Trent before he was drafted means Walsh called the Bills before they drafted Trent? Your argument doesn't add up. Maybe our scouts just noticed the same things Walsh noticed.

I don't necessarily believe people who claim to have seen alien spaceship and I certainly don't believe the nuts who claim they've been abducted. But at the same time, I certainly believe that there is plenty of life out there in the universe (and some of it intelligent)...I'm sure some of that intelligent life has been around longer than humans and has us beat technologically, so I definitely think alien visits are a possibility.

He was always a d-bag in college too, I remember him getting into fights a few times on the field and there was that time he made an ass of himself by continuously saying that he was a soldier in a war.
-
He has been incredibly injury prone and (frankly) stupid during his young career. He has an abrasive personality and would probably be a clubhouse cancer. He might very well be the most talented TE out there, but there are many issues with a trade for him and the price might be too high, certainly higher than a 3rd and change.

A Tricky Question
SageAgainstTheMachine replied to SageAgainstTheMachine's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm saying I was exaggerating my points because I like to argue when I get bored, which is what I was in class. I'm really not as big of a bleeding heart liberal as I was coming across as. -
A Tricky Question
SageAgainstTheMachine replied to SageAgainstTheMachine's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Haha I won't even be making $50,000, as I intend to go into sports writing/broadcasting, which will mean a pretty long time with low salary, or perhaps an entire career with low salary if I never make it big. Plus, my parents aren't helping too much with the cost, so I'll be in debt up to my eyeballs, but theoretically better for the college experience...and an Ivy League education does open a lot of doors so I don't regret the decision. The apartment I live in now is $490 a month, and the one my friends and I are looking at for next year is $517, so I guess we're finding bargains. -
Power Rankings - after Week 7
SageAgainstTheMachine replied to In-A-Gadda-Levitre's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's true but IMO you don't disrespect the Super Bowl champ with a low ranking until they seriously show you something to doubt them about. We'll see what happens when they hit the meat of their divisional schedule. The same can be said for us. -
PTI about to talk about the Bills
SageAgainstTheMachine replied to Hazed and Amuzed's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Thanks for the link, it was a good interview. He is probably one of the more likable players in the NFL. For a young QB of a 5-1 team, success is not going to his head AT ALL. That's a credit to both Trent and Dick Jauron. Combine Trent's physical skills, intelligence, youth, and personality and you've got a QB that probably makes every other team jealous of the Bills. -
A Tricky Question
SageAgainstTheMachine replied to SageAgainstTheMachine's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
And since I've been showed up, I guess I'll admit that sometimes I just like to be a douchebag and exaggerate my argument for the sake of exacerbation. I still disagree with absolutely everything murra has said so far, but am I REALLY going to give 70% of my income to charity? nah Though I am more charitable than your average student. Apologies. Seriously though, chickenwing, I give you props for seeing through some of my bull sh--. -
A Tricky Question
SageAgainstTheMachine replied to SageAgainstTheMachine's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I go to Cornell. Hoist by my own pitard, perhaps? Anyway, that is a good point, and I'm man enough to admit when somebody has properly called me out. But I'm being honest when I say that I go here because I think it gives me the best chance to pursue what I'm going after in a career, not because I'd like to make more money. -
A Tricky Question
SageAgainstTheMachine replied to SageAgainstTheMachine's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
First, I'm a what? a protege liberal student? Whose protege am I? And of course you're just resorting to your conservative buzzwords like "undermining family values" and "those who work hard" (in reference to those who make money) There are those who don't do a lick of work all day and still make 6 figures and there are those barely scraping by who do 60 hours of manual labor a week. You just assume that all poor people are lazy and could be making loads of money if they just tried harder. Not true. And the whole family values thing? Maybe those are your values, but not mine. Why do you treat family values as if it's something that's supposed to be universally agreed upon. And I'm sure that if I'm brainwashed, you are just as brainwashed as me, but from people of the conservative perspective. I interact with both liberals and conservatives on a daily basis and for the most part I tend to agree with the liberals. I don't see how that's brainwashing. And regarding the election. No, I'm not an Obama supporter, I was a Bill Richardson supporter. But the country CANNOT continue down the same war monger oil hungry bullsh*t path that it's on, and McCain is so much more likely to do that. This is a football site, so consider this football comparison. You've just fired your head coach and need a replacement. The team is 0-5 and needs to rebound quickly if it's got a shot. Do you hire a coach who is going to enact the same exact play calling and philosophy as the last one, or do you shake things up? I'm not saying Obama will be perfect, but he'll be better than just having more of the same.
