  1. I've thought about the use of this term myself and decided that it is probably kosher. The root of the comparison is valid, in that the "cancer" eats away at an organization and can spread to otherwise team-oriented players. I'm aware that it's a cliche at this point, but it really is a very good metaphor. Additionally, since the metaphor references the cancer itself and does not attempt to conjure images of a cancer PATIENT, I do not believe it is a damaging turn of phrase. On top of everything, if this was actually bothersome to cancer patients or their families I believe that enough people would have come forward at this point and suggested that media outlets cease to use the term. However, the fact that the term remains an oft-used cliche means to me that these people are for the most part un-offended.
  2. Ok, I understand his disdain for selfish players because I largely hold the same opinion of those guys. But it seems like he allows this disdain to cloud his opinion of the signing in terms of brass tacks football. He lists the positive arguments for the TO signing and then dismisses them with "baloney, baloney, baloney, and baloney" instead of presenting logical counterpoints to those arguments. To me, it's impossible to ignore the fact that TO behaves well in his first year with a team, so when Pollock responds to the "only one year" claim with "baloney" and no other explanation, his bias begins to seep through.
  3. I haven't seen us do one wide receiver screen over the past couple of years, not one, and last season we actually threw downfield quite a bit.
  4. There's a chance he isn't going to die?
  5. Yeah, a 6 foot 6 beefy receiver who could run fast and jump high...just goes to show that physicality is only one half of the story.
  6. Wasn't Paulus considered one of the best athletes in the country? If I remember correctly, he was a heck of a quarterback prospect too...
  7. What's wrong with I-town?
  8. Hey, it's not my fault that you suck at being sarcastic, brother.
  9. TO told everybody Garcia was gay...two guys generally don't make up after that.
  10. Really? I was just in Philly (granted, it was the better part of Philly) and I found it delightful.
  11. Nope, don't try to backtrack.
  12. I love it when sarcasm flies right over somebody's head. WHOOOSH
  13. I bolded the ones that I believe are correct. Playing through the Superbowl for Philly in pretty excruciating pain proved that he's in to win it. However, whatever emotional issues he has have made him very very far from being the ideal teammate. Also, he acts selfish. A quarterback's job is to throw the ball to an open receiver. If Witten was open more often than TO, he deserved the ball more. TO complains when he isn't the premier receiver in any given game. What will happen if it's week 1 and TO get 4 receptions for 47 yards, while Evans gets 7 receptions for 150 yards and 2 touchdowns? Even if the Bills win the game, TO might be prone to running his mouth off. That can create issues.
  14. Possibly the single worst paragraph of sports writing I've ever had the misfortune of reading.
  15. I used to watch those shows a lot more than I do now. I got tired of hearing the same old crap over and over again. But I think most people would be lying if they said they weren't interested in what the talking heads are saying about the signing.
  16. Mmmmm Ted's...I'm hankering for a couple of dogs and vinegar french fries right now.
  17. Well, an upgrade over Royal perhaps, but Dereks Fine and Schoumann are probably better than LJ Smith.
  18. Well, he went to school in Binghamton's journalism school. I suppose that's not a Buffalo connection, but he's been kind to the Bills when they were on MNF. Honestly, when I wrote my original comment I got his back story mixed up with Jaworski's.
  19. Unfortunately, you're probably right. I think the PTI guys will be kind, Kornheiser having the Buffalo connection. Jim Rome will insult us and the Around the Horn guys will be tool douches as always.
  20. It's the NFL, there's no single team that "stays healthy".
  21. Lack of interest elsewhere, we ponied up some dough, and we might have had the most potential among the teams vying for him.
  22. Can't get any better than this? You're easily impressed...
  23. Sadly, I could actually see that one happening.
  24. Did you think it was his burning desire to play for the Bills? I'm sure he's a die hard fan, having grown up in Alabama and all.
  25. I hate how most people don't understand what the word irony means.
