I'm not too familiar with the inner workings of NASCAR, so maybe one of you guys can answer this for me...I'm aware that Kyle Busch is one of the better drivers, but that everybody just seems to viscerally hate him...why is this?

Incredible QB story discussing Brohm and others
SageAgainstTheMachine replied to F UNC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I realize the level of competition is higher, but so many QBs come from non-power conference schools that I think a player's alma mater should be chucked out the window when considering the draft. Roethlisberger went to Miami Ohio Kurt Warner went to Northern Iowa Brett Favre went to Southern Mississippi Tony Romo went to Eastern Illinois Joe Flacco went to Delaware Hell, Ryan Fitzpatrick went to Harvard and he's a starter (technically) -

So did Roethlisberger. I wonder how that worked out for Pittsburgh... -

Ah yes, the old "I haven't heard of them, so they must be bad" argument. -

I hear a lot of talk about being a "playmaker" around here. If interceptions just starting falling like apples into Donte's hands next season, will he then be a playmaker? I love the success that Jairus Byrd enjoyed last season and I hope that he is a fixture on this team for years to come...he seems to have good hands and a good attitude. But you have to admit that most of his INTs this season were a case of being in the right place at the right time. Balls were thrown five yards over a receiver's head and Jairus happened to be there. Balls were tipped up into the air, and fell right into his hands. By my count, there were only two or three interceptions out of the nine where I said "That was a nice play". I don't think even one of them was the result of him jumping a route. When a player on the Bills has a lot of tackles, everybody says "Yeah, but how many of them were after 5 yards?". When a player has a lot of interceptions, nobody says "Yeah, but how many were thrown right to him or tipped?" Why not? It's a legitimate question. My point is...If Whitner gets 9 interceptions next year, I think you'll all be singing a different tune, even if its just a matter of him getting lucky. The typical football fan's individual player analysis is a lot like this..."Player X is a playmaker. Player Y is NOT a playmaker." Freddy is awesome, Marshawn sucks. Jairus is God, Donte is Satan. Losman is horrible, Edwards is the savior. Sound familiar? Pretty simplistic analysis for such a complicated sport. The one time we all heaped praise on Whitner was after the win against Tampa Bay where he took an INT back for a touchdown. But what did he actually do? The receiver was wide open, and Leftwich (being a terrible quarterback) threw an easy pass waaaay over his head...at which point Whitner got a very easy interception and basically walked into the endzone. I could have done that if I were faster! I agree that Whitner has not proven himself to be a very good player yet...he's been quite the disappointment for an 8th overall pick. Bad coverage, lousy tackling, seemingly bad instincts. However, the following are not legitimate claims as to why he sucks... 1. "He's just not a playmaker" 2. "He got trucked by Sammy Morris!" 3. "I don't like what he says on Twitter." 4. "He guaranteed us the playoffs and he was wrong!" -

The A-10 is probably the second best conference this year, next to the Big East. ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, SEC...they all have 1 or 2 really good teams but are otherwise very weak. Speaking of weak conference, where the fudge did the Pac 10 go this year? Do we only see one tourney rep. from the Pac 10? -
What legit evaluation? He just said to get rid of him for no reason.

Saints fans react to Porter's INT

I can see it now. Bills in the Superbowl next year, against the heavily favored Cowboys. The Bills have a great second half, taking a 24-17 lead...but Romo is driving downfield to tie the game and in scoring range. It looks like it will go to overtime. BUT WAIT! LEODIS MCKELVIN JUMPS IN FRONT OF A PASS TO MILES AUSTIN AND TAKES IT ALL THE WAY BACK TO THE HOUSE OH DO YOU BILLIEVE IT BUFFALO???? DO YOU BELIEVE IN MIRACLES???? THE BILLS WIN THE SUPERBOWL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! oops, the int is called back on defensive holding. Cowboys win in overtime. 60 yard field goal by Suisham...juuuuuust inside the right upright. -

I said physical competition...chess isn't a physical competition. Obviously definitions are subjective. But regarding "sport", you are in the vast minority. -
Anyone else feel the SB was boring?
SageAgainstTheMachine replied to SuperBills12's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The game itself wasn't boring by any stretch. Good football, all around. But I had absolutely no rooting interest whatsoever, which made the whole thing a tad dull. I'm happy for NO that they finally have something to cheer about...but I also would've been happy to see Manning further establish a legacy as possibly the best QB ever. I honestly didn't care who won. -
If we had hired Payton back then, everybody would have just bitched and moaned about not getting "a big name".

Wow, it must be really tough to lose a fantasy championship because of a player that doesn't even exist!
