  1. That's a valid point. I'll say this - when I have kids, I'll probably try to gear them toward lower risk sports like baseball. Of course, kids can hit their noggins in a variety of situations but with contact sports you're just asking for it. To bbb's point, I'm no C.T.E expert but I'd bet my bottom dollar that the average soccer player's life is a solid 15 years longer than the average football player's. EDIT: And I hope it goes without saying that I'd never advocate to BAN any sports. People make their own decisions, after all. But I'm debating whether or not to offer my tacit support as a fan.
  2. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/12/06/sports/hockey/derek-boogaard-a-brain-going-bad.html?_r=2&pagewanted=all?src=tp Fascinating stuff. I think I'm reaching a point where I can't morally justify watching football or hockey. Not a judgment on anybody else...just on a personal level, whenever I see a big hit I think... 1) WOW! and then 2) I wonder how many years that knocked off his life? It disturbs the heck out of me.
  3. Best excuse for public drunkenness I've heard.
  4. I'd shed a tear. Nothing tragic about an elderly man dying after a life well-lived, but it would make me rather sad nevertheless.
  5. This is a good point. In addition to following the Bills and Sabres, I'm a fan of the Yankees. During the baseball season (heck, even during the off-season) there is daily thought provoking content about the Yankees from a variety of local (NYC) sources. Most available material regarding Buffalo sports usually doesn't travel very far beyond banal fan-talk.
  6. And it's more than just that. I think an unwritten rule of TSW is that you don't go dredging through old posts in an attempt to humiliate a specific person. If a thread just so happens to survive for a long time, or if new information of relevance comes to light - that's one thing. But this was uncalled for, in my opinion.
  7. Annoying redudancy is irritating.
  8. I guess I meant late September, once the Bills were 3-0.
  9. Today is cake and ice cream day, A day for lots of fun. A baby's day for celebrating Birthday number one! Yaaaaayyyy! Somebody help him blow out the candles.
  10. Amateur opinionists that we are, there's not a single person on this board who's ineligible for a big old batch of "I told ya so", regarding one topic or another. I realize it was an unjustified slight on the local sports media, but I don't think PTR deserves to be singled out for a 3-month old post. Go back to September and most of us look like dumbies.
  11. Well, this is the kinda crap that happens in a system where 2 out of 119 teams make the postseason.
  12. Well, there's nothing left to do now but applaud. Today, he did what many said he couldn't.
  13. I said what was the point in POSTING about it? Why start the new thread? Aren't there already like 10 other threads about how miserable the Bills make you? Geeze, talk about a narcissist.
  14. What was the point in posting this? How enlightening...
  15. Kid can play. Revis type potential in coverage from what I've seen, and he plays with a mean streak.
  16. If firing coaches and GMs merits congratulations, you should have no problem with Ralph.
  17. Crazier things have happened in the realm of sports.
  18. All I can really say is that this would be incredibly difficult to measure due to the changing attitudes about concussions. As recently as a decade ago, guys would just "get their bell rung" and get sent out there the next day. So basically, I would say that you can't develop statistical baselines for comparison to goalies in the past because, honestly, we don't know how many concussions they had. Sorry I can't be more helpful.
  19. At least it's not an autism outbreak. I mean, that's what vaccines do after all.
  20. Then there's the old "Get the dihydrogen oxide out of our rivers" bit.
  21. You left out the part where he calls you racist.
