So not a T. Rapp game, then. -
Taron Johnson Named 2nd Team All-Pro
SageAgainstTheMachine replied to BuffaloBillyG's topic in The Stadium Wall
This whole era of the Bills has just racked up wins without very much individual recognition. Must have a really good HC. *ducks* -

I get a kick out of people with .01% of the football knowledge of an NFL coordinator who try to suggest X and O concepts. As if some intern is going to come across this thread and sprint to McDermott's office to tell him that the Steelers will try to run the ball and, oh, by the way, nobody showed up to Mason Rudolph's birthday party. "So you have no frame of reference, Donny. You're like a child who wanders into the middle of a movie."

Somehow it must be human nature to take things that are hugely multi-faceted and try boiling them down to one factor. What itch does it scratch to determine which aspect of the Patriots dynasty really mattered? They all mattered. (Including being the luckiest team in the playoffs over and over, but that's neither here nor there...) A couple years ago when we eviscerated the Pats in the playoffs the thing people don't acknowledge is that that was a 3-14 quality roster than went 10-7. Just listen to anyone in the actual football world talk about Belichick. They revere him, including those who have good reasons to hate him.

Counterpoint - if someone has an opinion you disagree with and you think it reflects on all of society, it's more of a reflection on you. -

The pass to Johnson at the end of the first half...
SageAgainstTheMachine replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall
Let’s be honest, nobody was thinking about helmet to helmet til the replay. Both players ducked for leverage and the defender won. -
Leslie Fraizer Interviewing with Chargers
SageAgainstTheMachine replied to 17islongenough's topic in The Stadium Wall
I also enjoy that apparently she could have traded Vrabel but chose not to because it would "take too long" and they'd miss out on their first choice for HC. As if any of the best HC candidates are attracted to the Titans' current batch of non-assets. -
What Changes Would You Expect If Steelers Win?
SageAgainstTheMachine replied to Dick_Cheney's topic in The Stadium Wall
Honestly if we lose some fluke 10-9 game in a blizzard I'm not overhauling the organization over that. You make changes because you're moving onto something better, not just to appease an appetite for change. But if it's more ideal conditions and we get outplayed by an inferior opponent like things happened a few times this regular season...yeah. It gets harder to have faith heading into next season. But that's an enormous "if" because I just don't see it happening. We're gonna toast em. -
Shakir needs to get the ball more
SageAgainstTheMachine replied to Scott7975's topic in The Stadium Wall
I’d say he’s getting prime Beasley looks. Different skill set in that he’s not quite the same magician in finding space in the middle of the field but a better occasional deep threat. Which is all to say it really has no bearing on eating up Gabe’s snaps. He plays a different position and we still need a WR2 but Shakir is capable of 800-900 yards a season. -
Who will you root for - Miami or KC?

No he's on the Pats now. -
Brandon Beane should be Executive of the Year.
SageAgainstTheMachine replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall
That award is mostly just a Most Improved Team award. But I'm thankful for Beane. -
Watching all the talking head shows...
SageAgainstTheMachine replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall
I always have to laugh at this. Like sure, let's pretend the QB who can put the ball in a one foot window from 30 yards away just missed his target by 5 yards laterally rather than that the WR did something wrong. -
I say this not as a critique of anyone but just as a reality - winning just cures everything. A lot of this board was putting stock in those takes and if the season had circled the drain and we finished 8-9 it would be taken by many as sacrosanct truth and further evidence for a firing.

Baldy's breakdown of the punt return
SageAgainstTheMachine replied to JÂy RÛßeÒ's topic in The Stadium Wall
I always wonder about this because you almost never see it...on those 4th down situations with a desperation heave why are DBs not just knocking the ball down to gain field position? Seems like you always see them go for the INT? In a league where no stone goes unturned is this not something that's taught? -
As others have pointed out I don't think there was any world in which that game was going to OT. But let's say it had and your scenario played itself out. I think if they were like, on their own 45 yard line, they might realistically just run out the clock with the matchup in mind. If they were in actual FG range like on the Bills 35 they would have kicked to win it. Within the culture of the NFL you can't be seen to be not trying to win a game. It's bad for the product and puts a target on your back from the team you're slighting, not just for your upcoming game but for years to come. Just bad form and I think McDaniel, for all his goofiness, is a guy who would get that.
