  1. Does anyone think its possible that he falls to us?

Would we take him if he was there?

We go according to the board...so... what do you think?

There is no way he falls to us.

We have 2 young WR's we are developing still, why waste a high pick on one when we still don't know if we need him.

I would rather see us take Gresham, Mays, DE, or LB with this pick...

  2. I'm calling BS on this. Anyone ever notice that sometimes these posts just come out of the blue when things are just dying down a little bit?

So, this guy is a supposed first time poster, already knows to do a poll, and cancelled DTV all at the same time.

    I'm calling BS.

    :sick::thumbsup:

lol, you are probably right...some one call the "Wahh-mbulance" for the OP...

  3. Yesterday I called DirecTV and canceled NFL Sunday ticket. I've been a Bills fan since Jack Kemp was the QB and have gone through a lot of ups and downs. I can't support this team financially anymore and I decided to do my little part. This coaching staff might be a bunch of nice guys but three years is enough. 3 year plans don't work anymore in the NFL. The future is now. Ralph is living in the past.

You must have a vendetta with Direct TV then because this move will not even remotely be felt by Ralph or the Bills and you are just punishing yourself. I bet as soon as they start winning you will be grabbing that phone to call Direct TV back anyway...

First off, if your a fan of football then why cancel the package in the first place when you can watch all the games.

Second, if you dont want to watch the other games and only had the package for the buffalo game, then why pay for the package when you can just go the sports bar and watch the game with some buds for free.

Third, if you really just want to see only the Buffalo game and are not willing to go to the sports bar with some buds to watch the game, you can watch it for free on the internet.

I just dont get this post or the other dozens like it. Ralph doesnt care that you don't subscribe to the NFL package anymore, and why should he...I mean who really cares...

  4. Considering the complete and utter lack of defense on each team and the difficult schedules they faced, I wouldnt really say that Houston and New Orleans underachieved this year. 8-8 is about right on the money for both of them.

I agree with you on Houston, espeicially with injury to Schaub, but N.O. definitely underachieved. You dont have a QB that passes for 15 yards less than the league record for a season and not make the playoffs. I mean Manning made the playoffs all those years with a joke of a D. Over 5,000 yards passing and all they can muster is 8 wins...and they were expected to be good and have a prolific offense. Not to mention they brought in Vilma and a few other D additions to help with their D. So I would say, they definitely under achieved.

Cincinatti and Cle were no surprise to me as I didnt expect either to be above .500 this year.

Dallas you can say underachieved, but if Romo doesnt get hurt they surely make the playoffs. That being said, Romo still chokes when it counts as they still had a shot and he stunk it up when it counted and was dreadful against Philly. So, given they still had life for the playoffs and missed you can't really blame the injury as they were pretty much healthy when it counted and still stunk, so they are definitely an underachiever.

You can also add in the Jets to this list and I think the Packers. The QB play was the only question mark and Rodgers was pretty good. Considering how good the team was the previous year and that it was still in tact from the year before, with solid QB play like they had they should have easily made the playoffs.

  5. Better than Ronnie Lott? Lott was an interception guru as well, getting 63 in his career (reed currently has 43) but he was also a tackler. Lott had over 100 tackles 5 times, while Reed has never done so. He actually only had 41 tackles this year.

Your safety shouldnt have that many tackles if the group up front is getting the job done. That means too many times guys were getting tackled down field. Reeds tackle numbers are lower because of the tremendous job being done up front, and if you watch Reed, he is one heck of a tackler too.

That being said, at this point, you still have to give it to Lott as best ever, but I think when Reeds career is over he might just over take Lott as best ever. To this point, I would have to agree, he is at least best play making S ever...

  6. The difference between Crowell and Ellison is HUGE. He may be a JAG, but he is in a different class than the alternatives.

The DBs may be JAGS, but when the injuries pile up, and guys (other JAGs?) have to move out of their natural positions, it can make a real impact.

Still, injuries are part of the game, and the Bills weren't decimated by them, as they were in 2007. But, I wanted to point out that, even though the guys who were injured might not be stars, the damage done was more than their quality status might indicate.

    Good post

The problem with the injuries is the lack of quality we have gotten from recent drafts. We don't have the depth to sustain such injuries.

Greer and Youboty were playing as a starter caliber level when they were hurt and hurt more that is believed, especially Leodis took time to develop in is DB role. Schobels injury not only hurt our pass rush, but also our run D and significantly reduced the impact of Stroud as now he drew double and triple teams.

Our injuries were not as bad as last year, but they were still quite significant. You don't win in this league unless you can weather injuries and field capable players which we have shown we cant do.

We need a true GM and better drafts.

  7. You have good points above.

However, that has nothing to do with the awful coaching job that Jauron did this year. Bad decision after bad decision and consistant clock mismanagement have nothing to do with Pennington, Flacco, Porter, Ryan, Turner, Edwards eratic play or injuries to Bills players. Jauron made mistakes that a coach with his experience simply should

    not

    make.

    Period.

That either is, or is not, true. If you believe that not to be true, fine. Then we agree to disagree.

Remember, I said I prefer Jauron to be replaced now for this very reason, this post was to examine some analysis that might have gone into retaining Jauron.

  8. actually my point isn't so much about Haynesworth but that sometimes it might be better to spend a huge amount on a superstar than to spend the same amount on 2 or 3 lessor talents.

Ask Dallas, Washington, Oakland and the Jets how that is working out for them...

Overpaying huge for one talent has never equaled winning in the NFL for any team ever...not once. So how is this better?

Look at the last super bowl winners of the last 7 years...Pitt, NE, Indy, Balt, NYG...name one player who they these teams grossly over paid for to get them over the top? In fact, NE and Pitt let players walk rather than pay them what they can get elsewhere and yet are always amongst the Elite teams.

You build winning teams by drafting well and bringing in players that fit your scheme and system, not just dump huge amounts to get one player...we are no where near "1 player away" from being a SB Champ.

  9. I disagree about Schobel he was locked through 2010 and they extended him through 2013 WhyTF would you do that.

If they cut Schobel at the exact time they extended him, a bidding war starts for him and he gets a similar contract. Doesnt mean we should have extended him, but at the time his previous play warranted his salary.

  10. What's better Kelsay and Schobel for 13mil or Haynesworth for 13mil

Why do people keep talking like Haynesworth is someone we had a shot at? He is NOT leaving Tenn and they have already begun contract talks. He WANTS to stay and Tenn WANTS him to stay and is gonna pay him...

Geezus, enough of Haynesworth talk...might as well talk about bringing in Manning, Ed Reed, Ware, or some other stud, becasue it has about as much likely hood as Haynesworth.

But of course, the posters on here will find a way to blame Ralph for not signing a player that has zero percent chance of coming here...

  11. Some of these agents were absolutely laughing their asses off when doing these contracts, I promise you.

Schobel, Evans, and Dockery would have gotten these contracts from just about any team in the league at the times that they got them...

The rest are just unforgivable really...especially Roscoe, Kelsay, Denney and Fowler...

We need a GM more than we need anything else at this point...

  12. I know you're not defending Jauron. But given his record, both at Chicago and in Buffalo, along with the mind-numbing mistakes he made this year, it's hard for me and a lot of sports commentators and writers, to justify keeping him. I keep pointing to Atlanta, Baltimore and My Yami as teams who did very well with 1st year coaches....all in the playoffs. Given that fact, along with everything else that's been said and documented about Jauron, it's hard to justify bringing him back for what all the evidence indicates, will be a repeat of the past.

All teams play with injuries and/or suspensions. That's not an excuse for Jauron, that's an NFL reality for every team.

Can you tell me the big difference in Atl and Miami this year besides coaching? Good QB play...did we have good QB play? Not even close. When Trent was playing like an NFL QB instead of a scared puppy, we were 4-0. Even then, he wasnt lighting the field up...Bad QB play is the #1 killer of coaches in this league...

So sure, Sparano gets a lot of credit for the turn around, but that team is a completely different team in terms of its roster than it was the year before, and Parcells did that. Pennington, Brown back from injury, Williams, Porter back to form, the trade for Fasano, etc. was the turning point.

Atl just got only Matt Ryan and Michael Turner...hmmm...pretty good players to me...could they have a huge impact on that turn around?

Balt was already talented enough, so I leave them out of above example, but they too found a young QB to keep building on who is just asked not to lose them the game.

All teams do play with injuries, but not team in football has had as many injuries to key starters than Buffalo the last 2 seasons. Last year we had players that would struggle to start in the world league or CFL starting for us. This year our QB, OL, Reed, Schobel, Youboty, Greer, etc. were all hampered a CHUNK of the season, mostly during our season AFTER the 5-1 start and we couldnt recover.

  13. What I hope Ralph did was Identify 2 or 3 candidates who he thought could be significantly better than Juaron - made inquires and was turned down- It does make sense to keep Juaron over other mediocre coaches - who needs two years of transition.

The coaching crop will be better next year if DJ doesnt get it done this upcoming year...Ralph knows it, heck everyone knows it. Plus, there will likely be less job openings making us more likely to land one if we pursue them. It likley has:

Cowher (said he will not coach next year and sit out one more year)

Holmgren (said he will sit one year)

Shannahan (I think he sits a year)

Mariucci (don't see him taking one of the open jobs this year)

    Billick (see Mariucci)

Reid (if Eagles struggle next season he will be fired)

    Etc

So, giving our young team one more year in the same system to see what our young team can do has the added security of having a prety deep coaching pool the following year if DJ can not get the job done. DJ has had to deal with quite a bit of adversity, the players like playing for him, he has an extension, we don't have enough talent anyway, and we have the fall back plan of having quite a few good coaches likely available if he fails next year (which will get him fired).

Plus, (as one poster added) one more year with Trent will give any new coach a clear indication on whether we need a new QB or have one to build on.

  14. How many Super Bowls do NE, Pitt, Balt, and Indy win without Brady, Roethlisberger, Lewis, and Manning? I know they were drafted, but the Bills can't seem to do that either. Get impact players anyway you can. Dallas, Washington, and Oakland are dysfunctional franchises. Over-spending is but one of their many issues. You can't blame their problems solely on over-paying but it works for Ralph.

You just made my point trying rebuttal...Brady, Roth, Lewis, Manning were all drafted by those teams.

The formula of overpaying to bring in names hasnt worked for Dallas, Oakland, Jets, or Washington. In fact, Washington has elected to stop doing it. In fact, it hasnt worked for a single team ever in the NFL to go on wild spending sprees to try and buy a SB. Has it even worked for Yankees? Nope. How about the Mavericks? Nope. How about the Mets? Nope. Just not a good formula to win.

The teams with consistency in this league build through quality drafts and FA's that fit their scheme, not just big names with big contracts. Sure, some key signing help, but just going out and massively overpaying just to get a player isnt going to win you anything.

  15. yeah, as much as i try to support the team and it's decisions (and therefore the players and coaches, whoever they may be) i can not use injuries as an excuse for this teams performance. too many other teams have injuries. actually, EVERY team has injuries. good TEAMS adapt and play through them.

every team does have injuries, but we have been hit exceptionally hard and did not have the depth to overcome it. We don't draft as well as NE...

Cassel was not as big a shock either as it was for casual fan. He was playing lights out in the preseason a couple years ago and rumbles were brewing in fan circles of a QB controversy as absurd as that is.

I know Cassels mom, worked with her on the TV show "My own worst enemy" this season as she was head of wardrobe. Nice lady, all her sons are pro athletes. He was highly recruited coming out of high school and got stuck behind 2 Heisman QB's then Mr. all world himself Brady. It says something to never have started a game in college as a QB and to still get drafted. Chow said Cassel was his #1 priority to sign after the draft becasue he thought no one would have drafted him since he hadnt started a game. He said if he knew he was on someones radar he would have pushed to use a draft pick on him as he knew his capabilities from USC days.

I actually was not surprised by his performance, especially with Welker and Moss to throw to. By the way, off the record, Welker she said is the nicest guy, total class act, humble, and real laid back.

  16. After 2 head coaching jobs, the fact which stands out is that Jauron has regressed. He has absolutely no excuse whatsoever for the horrible play calling and time mismanagement that happened this year. No one is perfect. The mistakes that Jauron made, or allowed to happen, would be understandable if he was a rookie HC. He isn't. He's had 3 years to prove himself in Buffalo and instead he's produced 7-9 duds each year.

If you can give me any tangible reasons why his 4th year should be any different than the first three, I'm all ears.

I am not defending the guy...even started the post saying I prefer to replace him. My only point is that keeping him isnt as absurd as his record if you look at the whole picture, and still could work out.

Honestly, for us to win as many games last year as we did was a miracle with all the injuries we had. Many of our players we were starting we not starting caliber players and some would struggle to start in the World League.

We were hit hard by injuries then ended the year with a Rookie QB and dealt with the devastating Everett situation. Most among the NFL thought he did a heck of a job last year, myself included, given the circumstance.

He again was hit hard by injuries, had no consistency at QB, Trent even regressed.

So, that is why he is not looked at as bad in the NFL circle as he is by Buffalo fans.

  17. I want your opinions

    1. Do you think Edwards should pack on another 10 pounds of muscle like he did last season?

    2. Will the Bills ever figure out the 3-4 Defense. Will we pick up a Safety blitz for once in 2009?!

    3. Will we pick Gresham, Brown, or a center in the draft? I want Gresham (spelling?)

    4. Will we pick up a big WR in FA or even get one in the draft? I'm not a fan of Roscoe in the slot to be honest.

    5. Can Steve Johnson ever be a #2?

    1. Yes...he is and always has been fragile and would like to see him get more size to give him a little more confidence in taking a hit and any improvement to arm strength will be greatly appreciated.

    2. Talk to Trent on this as well as the staff...and lets hope so.

    3. I like Gresham, but who knows, I keep hearing that the staff is high on D. Fine's potential.

    4. No...they still have big plans for Hardy and Johnson is showing lots of promise.

    5. I think so, he shows lots of promise and I was high on him when we drafted him.

Truth is, this team is only going as far as TE development and ability to stay on the field. If he doesnt shed the "shell shocked" approach he had the last half the season, then we will be luck to win 6 games next year.

  18. http://www.sportscity.com/NFL/Buffalo-Bills-Salaries

It's disgusting what some of these guys are making.

Roscoe, Denney and Kelsay make me sick when I see their salaries...

I dont even mind Schobel as he earned it when he got it, but these other 3 never earned anything remotely close to what they got...

Walker and Dockery I understand as thats what it took to get them that year and we had to overpay a little to give us the chance to sign em. Now, I am not saying they have lived up to the contract, but I do understand why they got them, especially Dockery as he was considered a premier FA that year and 2nd best OL available.

  19. It means that we piss money away on mediocre players. A Haynesworth or Peppers means players of their ilk. Why not over-pay for true difference makers? If Tennessee offers Haynesworth $10m per year, offer him $13m per year. Let his agent know that the Bills will offer 25% more than anything Tennessee offers. It's just depressing to hear that we can't go after these type of players when so much money is currently wasted on average players.

I understand the desire for these players, but having Peppers or Haynesworth does not fix our problems but fills a single hole (haynesworth doesnt even fill a hole as our D line is solid in the middle). Putting an absurd amount of money into one player like that means we dont fill several other holes for one.

Two, its still a mute point as they want to stay where they are at and will get the money they want where they at...so why leave?

Three, we DO have the money to throw absurds amount of money at them, so why do you keep saying we don't?

Four...NE, Pitt, Balt, Indy are all consistently among the best teams in the NFL the last 7 years, yet none of them go out and sign elite FA's and throw absurd amounts of money at them...Dallas and Washington do...how many SB's do NE, Pitt, Balt, and Indy have the last decade and how many do Dallas, Oakland and Washington have after throwing stupid money at players?

    6 to zero...

Dumping all your money into a single player doesnt win you a championship...bringing in players who fit your scheme and drafting well do...
