Huh? This a typo? Otherwise how does Shakir missing a game get us to the Super Bowl? If he even misses the game -

Where did I say he wasn't? You said TSW never wants to give up picks, and I said no, people are always more or less willing to trade all the time. See the plethora of the threads every time any name anyone knows is rumored to be available. Beane on the other hand is both aggressive and yet protective of his picks. He won't just throw picks away on half year rentals unless he is fully of the belief that trade puts us at the top of the heap to compete to win it all. I have repeatedly said Beane has proven he is aggressive when he sees a move he feels is the right move for the team or moves the needle. So he isn't afraid to move up in the draft or get a player long term like he did Diggs in his prime. But you are talking about old WR's who are likely short term rentals. Not a chance he gives up any picks for one unless he fully believes that the move puts Bills at the forefront of competing THIS year for a Super Bowl. -

Personally I think there is no question before the season began that our Safeties were in worse shape than the overall collection of weapons for Allen on the offense. Especially given the importance of the position to McD's defense and veteran experience we lost with both Hyde and Poyer leaving. Don't get me wrong, it was time to move on, but I don't think anyone expected us to "get better" with Rapp, Edwards, Hamlin, and a rookie who missed a lot of camp from an injury. And in the Ravens game, the defense and especially the safeties were particularly bad. -

We had a lot of holes to fill this year, you can't fix it all in one off-season, especially when you have cap constraints like having an additional $31M dead cap invested into the WR position to make moving on from Diggs possible. Meanwhile, Beane had just invested a first to bring Kincaid in the year before to be a weapon along side a TE they had just extended the year before to run more 12 personnel. Then they had Shakir emerging, signed Samuel, and used their first pick in the draft on a WR. But at no point has Beane ever once even suggested he is done. There is no doubt Beane and the Bills will 100% be investing more into the WR position again this offseason, and if he thinks this team can get over the top this year, he may make a move before the deadline if the right deal is there. -

I get where you are coming from, and normally I wouldn't disagree with this as I have advocated hard in the past for a WR, even to go get Adams the past 2 seasons. I badly wanted to see someone else opposite Diggs than Davis. But I do think you underestimate just how good Baker is and how important Safety is to this defense. And after watching the Ravens game, I would be pretty stoked to see him in a Bills uniform, not to mention he is one of my favorite Non-Bills players around the league. Not saying we will or should go Safety over WR, but Baker unquestionably would be a significant upgrade to our secondary. Wonder if there is a way they could add both Baker and one of the WR's that are being most discussed here (Adams, Hopkins, Cooper). Off the top of the head feels impossible from a cap perspective, but then again, thats above my pay grade and for Beane to figure out lol -

Nah...this is incorrect...its Beane. Most people here are willing to give up picks more than Beane is. He has talked in length about the importance of the picks, building talent through the draft as a strategy to manage the cap, etc. -

All good, just more coming from the perspective that the vast majority of players we are allegedly in on we find out later was never true. And yeah, I just don’t think Beane is gonna throw away a premium pick in first 4 rounds for a half year rental unless he believes that one player could put us over the top for a SB. And coming off the Ravens game, pretty hard to say what this team is or isn’t as the whole team and coaches all had a bad week. But just my 2 cents based on how Beane covets his picks and what he’s stated this offseason. But, I also wouldn’t be surprised if Beane made a move, he’s proven to me to be aggressive when he wants to make a move. But if he does make a move now, I think it’s because he really believes it could put us over the top this season. -

That’s assuming Beane has any real interest in bring him here, there is still a question about fit. And that’s how GMs work, they don’t just throw out offers or low ball other GMs every time a player is available. They may have a convo, but doesn’t mean they make an offer and most of the time don’t. I am still not sure Beane makes any major moves for a WR, S, LB or any position until we get closer to trade the deadline, if at all. I can’t see Beane over reacting to one game and more waiting to see if this team is truly a contender for a Super Bowl where one player could make the difference. If we lose some games and show we aren’t really a player away this year then I think Beane will be less inclined to do anything in season this year personally. So for me, I have doubts Beane is making any offers right until he sees more from this team on the field and knows if a half year rental for a pick he covets moves the needle enough to give that pick(s) up. Doesn’t mean I’m correct, just my 2 cents based on how he has operated during he’s tenure here, what he has said about this year already, and what he has said his plans moving forward are. -

While they may make an offer, I don’t think there is “no doubt” we will. The majority of the time the “Bills” are linked to someone we find out later it wasn’t true. For example, if Raiders called us, they will still say we were one of the teams even if Beane just took the call but never made any offer. -

Budda would make a big difference here, he’s a beast and S is a big position in McDs defense. I would be all for a LB too though. -

I mean I don’t think Beane has ever given the impression he is done adding WR talent to this team. What he said was he doesn’t feel like Josh is in the same place he was when we traded for Diggs where Allen needs an elite WR1 to elevate Josh’s game. Which is was saying as the reason why he didn’t feel the need (with $31m in dead cap already to a WR off the roster) he had to go trade a bunch of assets and over pay someone like Aiyuk. But make no mistake about it, he is going to still draft another WR this next year or acquire one via trade or FA. And if one comes available in season at a bargain he can take on where he doesn’t kill the cap moving forward and have to over pay in draft assets, I am sure he will at least kick the tires. -

Thanks for posting this. That second clip is the play I was talking about many times since the game where Coleman beat his one on one deep for a would be TD had O’Cyrus didn’t get Allen nearly killed on a sack. Coleman was close to having a big game between that play and the unfortunate drop. Its why I said the silver lining might be this mini breakout where they hopefully look to get Coleman going early. As I said in another thread already, look for Coleman to get at least 7+ targets this week as I think they are going start getting him more involved moving forward. -

Pulling for Knox to have a breakout game on Sunday
Alphadawg7 replied to Billsfed1's topic in The Stadium Wall
This. I have no complaints weeks 1 - 3 for obvious reasons. 9 people caught the ball week 1, Cook dominated week 2 and we took the 2nd half off, week 3 10 people caught passes and again took the 2nd half off...no one is gonna have high usage stats under those great circumstances. BUT...Baltimore was supposed to be most vulnerable up the middle of that defense and if there was ever a game to get 12 personnel going it was that one. Yet for the first time in 13 games with Brady it was the first one where I felt like he did not have the right plan. I will say this...execution on the field killed us too when we were getting momentum at times. The OL was getting worked and confused up front, the stupid trick play, Kincaid and Keon with 2 key drops in the first half, and dumb penalties. Still, even though we had moments where we seemed to get into a rhythm (before shooting our own selves in the foot), I don't understand why we didn't utilize both TE's more. I have defended Mack as having value, and mostly as a blocker, both this offseason and during the season. And he has done just that. But at no point was he ever to be more than 5th or 6th target at best in our offense. When we are looking to get the ball moving through the pass game we need to either get Samuel going (another mystery) along side Keon and Shakir, or we need to get into 12 personnel and get Knox involved as well with Keon and Shakir out there with them. Knox had 15 TD's the 2 seasons before drafting Kincaid and that was with relatively low usage. Dorsey completely forgot he was on the team and Brady hasn't really gotten him involved yet either. I do trust Brady more to find a way to get the right personnel out there compared to Dorsey. So I hope he grows from that Raven game and starts looking at what an asset the 12 personnel can be with these 2 guys in games like that. Doesn't mean every week it makes the most sense, I like varying our approach based on our opponent. -

I think Beane has shown a willingness to make a splash move, but also I think he has shown restraint to do things that will hinder us moving forward more often than not. So I don't think he will avoid making a move if he feels its a difference making move, but he also won't want to do something that screws his cap up the next couple years if it isn't something he feels could really deliver a SB this season. Personally, I think the timing is wrong. Bills looked like the best team in the NFL first 3 weeks then got destroyed by Balt...so right now its a big question if this team is a true SB contender or more like Miami was last year where we beat up on weak opposition but are not truly one of the elite teams in the AFC. But if the Bills go out and win these next two games for example, then I think more confidence will build this team could win it all this year and maybe Beane is more willing to make an all in type move before the deadline. Just my 2 cents. -
Oh, I didn't remember that. Thanks for clearing that up. So did that adjustment impact our ability to get out of his deal this year as I have had the impression we still can and no one has suggested back to me otherwise yet when I have talked about that as part of the positive things of this next off season. So now I am curious to how that impacts him this year

See this is where you and I are disconnected...which is fine, but this really shows it more clearly. Yes he has 2 more yards...that is indisputable. Him having "better stats" is where I think it is definitely disputable. His efficiency is terrible and has a YPC that would be bad for even a back up TE. Not to mention, he had almost a game and a half worth of additional offensive snaps while his team has struggled all 4 weeks. His team got blown out the one game he was featured, which is also where he got literally 40% of his yards in that one game of a blowout loss. He has really not been relevant or done much to help his team since his 2 short TD's week 1. I do agree that if Minnesota keeps playing at this high level and that pick becomes a very late 2nd, then it really isn't robbery and closer to balanced. When Minny was expected to be bad with what people expected the QB situation to be, a pick inside the top 10 of the 2nd would have felt more like we got over on Houston in that deal for what may just be a one year rental for them. But that looks pretty unlikely right now unless the old Darnold shows up. -

Agree...the one spot I did not want to see him go was KC, and hopefully being in the same division that it would prevent that from happening. Even better if KC is not interested to where its not even on the table. I am not too worried about the Jets though. -

I will openly admit that the show "Receivers" soured me on Adams as the kind of fit that I think will good for the team. I was all for trying to get him the last 2 years prior to that show though. But since then, seeing him complain about targets in a win, regularly show lots of frustration and displeasure on the sidelines, etc has me concerned about how he will handle it if we are still spreading the ball around with him here. Especially in a games where maybe we are losing or go on to lose. But prior to this year I was all about trying to get him. So I won't hate it if we shock and trade for him, but I would be lying if I said I wouldn't be concerned about his potential to disrupt the fun and chemistry this team has had this year post Diggs. -

I didn't say any of this though. Lets deal with the Facts: Bills blew out teams and the offense mailed it in for 2 halves of football. That is an entire games worth of football. Are you telling me the Bills leading WR is not going to catch a single pass for 2 yards over the course of 4 quarters? Come on...lets be realistic here. Not to mention that our defense not getting AZ off the field the first half of week 1 and Cook dominating the first half of week 2, or the fact that week 1 Allen completed passes to 9 different WR's and then 10 different ones in week 3. To translate the less opportunities to be a function of a failure of Shakir doing his job is completely inaccurate and an injustice to what Shakir has done this season. -
I believe this is incorrect. What I understood was that Beane did not rework his deal, Von just flat out took a pay cut without altering his deal in any way moving forward. It was maybe the biggest deal of the offseason to save cap space this year and not change our ability to get out of his deal next year. Maybe I am misremembering, but I think this is what really happened.
