How easy it was to take them out on run plays was disturbing to say the least

I'd love for us to trade for Amari Cooper

Gotcha, I was cooking all day for my wifes Niners game as this was like her last big football day with friends for a little bit before our baby is due. So I was mostly just checking the TV's to see the scores and only really watched the final 2 Jets drives that lost them the game. Nothing would make me happier than to see them continue to lose and implode haha -
It happens...flush it and move on...now how do Babich and Brady respond is all the matters Trenches...you win in the trenches...and Balt dominated them and took us to the wood shed Samuel APB is officially out, its like they have no plan for him and they need to get him going How does Bass still have a job? Like seriously... OMG was that trick play stupid at that time when we had momentum...very Daboll-esque We needed to keep calm and play our game with that momentum, not try a high risk play Your silver lining is that may be Keon's mini breakout to where they get him involved more Offense shot itself in the foot too much every time we started to move the ball Unfortunately our injuries caught up with us on D finally, need Taron & Bernard back ASAP Rookies will make mistakes, but seeing how Coleman responded was impressive Expect to see Brady come out with a different look and game plan for the offense this week Second down and short play calling this week felt predictable, needed some more play-action Punch back now. You came out flat and got punched in the mouth, now go out and punch back Open up the offense earlier, don't wait until we are down 2 scores Not going to panic after a short week, tough opponent, on the road missing 3 critical defenders Demar is a good story, but may be time to see what Edwards looks like back there GO BILLS!

Is this a real thing between him and Rodgers? Doesn't matter, Jets would never send Wilson to the Bills regardless, but wasn't sure if this was just your guess or is there some trouble brewing there. -

Coleman was though. He’s the key. Let’s hope this was a mini breakout to where they realize that they need to get him going early and we start seeing him consistently getting 7+ targets each week at least. If Coleman and Allen start clicking, they can’t cheat their top CB to Shakir. -

Im not against Cooper, he would probably do anything to get out of Cleveland and anything he was asked here for a chance at winning. I would prefer him over a me first guy like Adams who was complaining about not getting enough targets in a game they won last year. Adams is a beast of a WR, but he will not like his role in an offense like this and would become an issue as soon as we lost a game where he didn't get the most targets. But...our biggest issue against the Ravens was the domination we saw in the trenches. Coleman got open deep multiple times and had Allen not been crushed at least one of them would have been a TD. Our next biggest issue IMHO is WTF is up with Samuel? Hollins was not signed to be a key target, he was always slated to be the 5th or 6th target at best and his primary role was his elite ability to block in our run game and quick strike short passing game focused on YAC...and he has done that quite well in weeks 1-3. But when we are going up tempo and pushing the ball downfield, it was always supposed to be Coleman, Shakir, Kincaid and Samuel with Cook in the backfield. Or even 12 personnel with Knox and Kincaid out there and some combo of Coleman, Shakir, and Samuel. Right now, I don't know if Samuel is still being slowed by Turf Toe or what...but it looks like they don't have a plan for him right now. He seems to be more of a gadget player than a WR they signed for 3 years to contribute. -
You can't replace every hole on your team in one offseason, especially one where you have Von's (should be final year) contract and $31M in dead cap going to a player not on the team. And lets not pretend this board would not have melted down they had drafted 2 safeties or that any of you wanted us to draft 2 safeties. They signed Edwards, retained Rapp, and drafted Bishop with also the possibility Hyde might return. Edwards and Rapp are serviceable for this season where I expect them to probably add another young player in the draft or maybe look at FA again with the better cap situation next year. And at WR I think the plan is pretty clear, to build through the draft. There obviously wasn't another one they were high enough on after Coleman to where they were BPA on Beane's board or they would have taken one, Beane said so himself. That doesn't preclude them from continuing to add to the room in the next draft. No one ever said they did "enough" at those positions as if they are done moving forward.

Yeah I agree with this, just with Davis they are giving him one carry on a predictable run call. They need to leave him in a series and maybe even put both him and Cook back there together like Saints used to do. Right now when they put Davis in it has been pretty predictable what the next play is going to be. I want to see them run the offense the same whether Cook or Davis was back there to keep the defense guessing
-
Well we needed to replace 2 safeties and will need another WR next year as 2 of our guys are on 1 year deals and only here because we have $31m in dead cap going to a WR playing on another team. It’s not like we need to draft a WR and S to replace the ones we just took.
-
Well that’s the beauty of not having high expectations then. Especially when next year we have lots of extra draft capital once we aren’t paying Diggs $31m to not be here and we can get out of Vons deal. We can move around the draft if we choose, or if we stay put and make our picks early, I would expect WR, LB, and S to all be in play over our first and 2 second round picks. Watching the Niners every week with my wife has made Fred Warner maybe my favorite non Bills player. And I’m really hoping we go get a LB in FA or draft that isn’t undersized and can be a force. And I love Milano and Bernard, but they keep getting hurt and it cost us the KC game last year to end our season and it was again costly yesterday not having them. And quite frankly I don’t know how much better they would have even fared against Henry anyway.
-
Look, it’s my fault 💯 I started the game off still wearing my Niners hat that I wore to support my wife’s team in the afternoon game while her friends and parents were here to watch game. I cooked up a storm for them as this was my wife’s last chance to prob hang with friends to watch a game for a few months as she is due to give birth here in next week or two to our 2nd boy. I was just planning to relax and enjoy leftovers during the Bills game and was so tired I forgot I still had a Niners hat on rather than the new Bills hat I had wore weeks 1-3. In fact it was my wife who noticed it right after Henry’s TD run and ordered me to change it. She’s the best. My bad.

The issue is how they are using him and Cook. They keep pulling Cook to run a handoff or two to Davis when there is no reason to pull Cook out. RB’s need rhythm, and expecting a rookie to come in cold and succeed on the next carry and pull him back out isn’t an approach that is going to win a lot. 2nd issue is he also got carries when we were obviously running in blow out wins to chew clock in 2 games. So that’s gonna also hurt his YPC. I am still very high on him, but they need to let Cook get in rhythm and bring Davis in when Cook needs a rest and let Davis run some consecutive snaps to also get into a flow. I hate how they are rotating them now.

I don’t really disagree with this, although I think Mack has more value than just a handful of snaps given how much he’s affected the offense (almost every TD and many of our big runs and YAC plays)…BUT that value is when the run game and short YAC game is flowing. In a situation where you are pushing the uptempo offense because you haven’t gotten the other aspects going that we saw roll so easily first 3 weeks, it really should be Samuel or even Knox out there more. We have these 2 TE’s and Ravens have been weak defending the pass up the middle, but I don’t recall seeing much 12 personnel out there this week and yet we drafted Kincaid after extending Knox just for that purpose. I love that Brady is using these quick strike screens, been missing from our offense for years. But he also over used it and over relied on it this week. Maybe it was a panic move to try and counter how bad we were getting abused up front, I don’t know. But we didn’t trade up for Kincaid to throw TE screens to him a bunch of times. And we are paying Knox a lot to barely use him. This is a guy who had 15 TDs in 2021 and 2022 despite low usage. Brady has been great the three weeks coming in, so not going to condemn him after a week where the whole team just was flat and out muscled on both sides of the board. But I do hope this is a learning experience and he can show he can adjust moving forward. And that means more Coleman, more Kincaid away from the LOS, and getting Samuel involved outside just some gadget plays or screens. And one last note: While I am very high on Davis, they need to stop switching off Cook so much. RBs need carries to get in rhythm. Expecting Davis to just come in for a random carry on 2nd down is both taking Cook away from getting into a rhythm and asking a rookie to come in cold and succeed on the next play. ESPECIALLY in a game like this where you’re struggling to establish the ground game. Let Cook get Cooking. If Cook gets 8 yards on first down let him pickup the first down if you are going to run it again or leave him in and run a play action or read option.

Does Brady struggle to feature top TE's and WR?
Alphadawg7 replied to Mikie2times's topic in The Stadium Wall
Keep in mind, our offense took a vacation second half of weeks 2 and 3 and Josh had only 2 attempts before the final drive of the first half week 1. Not to mention week 2 was the Cook show. So that’s gonna affect his target totals through these first 4 games. -
The throw to Shakir deserves its own thread
Alphadawg7 replied to Success's topic in The Stadium Wall
It needs to get some use out Samuel for sure. This reminds me when they talked up McKenzie back when Cole was still the slot WR all camp long. How he was gonna be used all over the place and such…then the season started and he barely saw the field the whole season except for the one Pats game. But more puzzling is that McKenzie sucked, so that at least made more sense. Brady has gotten a lot of Samuel before who is a legit NFL WR (unlike McKenzie who is a low rent gadget player at best) but somehow doesn’t look like he has much of a plan for Samuel other than quirky gadget plays. -
So far WR group looks like a dumpster fire
Alphadawg7 replied to Ethan in Cleveland's topic in The Stadium Wall
Agreed Yeah they focused so much on the fumble and if Josh was hurt on the replay I had to rely more on what the announcers were saying who mentioned it was Coleman coming open. So yeah, will be interesting to see what that crap show play was looking like downfield on the All 22. -

And I’ve said it a bunch now, Coleman absolutely torched his defender one on one and was running down field for a would be long TD on the play OCyrus got worked and they sacked Allen quickly. The kid then got open downfield again next drive and that was the one he dropped. And I am pretty sure it was Coleman running open deep down field that Allen tried to launch the ball too on the stupid trick play where Allen got stripped on the attempt. I really feel like this is the game where when they go back and look at the film they realize they need to get this kid going early moving forward. And if they can get the Allen-Coleman connection humming, this offense is going to benefit greatly. -
Im going to call it now - Coleman is going to see 7+ targets next week. I think this is what is going to be the silver lining, that this was sort of a coming out party for him. And once Coleman starts establishing himself as a primary target in this offense, they won’t be able to cheat their top CB to Shakir. Now…the bigger concern is how can they get Samuel going. When we need to get into high uptempo pass attack, we should be relying on Coleman, Shakir, Kincaid, and Samuel…but so far it’s like they have no idea what to do with Samuel out there. They need to get him involved.

Good recap, and I pretty much agree with most of this. Couple minor notes: I never liked the MVS signing and was praying someone would bump him off the roster. So I don’t disagree he’s not bringing a lot to the table other than running fast in a straight line. To his credit, Allen has missed him on 2 deep shots he was open earlier this season, but honestly I trust him to make the catch about as much as I trust Bass to make 50 yard FG. But Hollins has value to this team still. He’s supposed to be our 6th target, so he was never meant to be a high target volume guy. Where I think the problem is really with Samuel being a non factor. When we need to press the ball downfield it shouldn’t be Hollins we need to depend on. It should be Coleman, Shakir, Kincaid and Samuel along with our backs that we look to in those moments. But like you said, for what ever reason Samuel has been a ghost and it feels more like they don’t know what to do with him. Whatever they are doing isn’t working, and they need to get him going and get Mack off the field in those more pass heavy moments. Or of if they can’t, then they need to get Knox more involved as a pass catcher run more 12 personnel. The only area I disagree with is Shakir. Teams are not going to be able to cheat their CB1 short on Shakir if Coleman keeps building on this game, and I think he will. Coleman was close to a massive night tonight. When Allen got sacked because O’Cyrus got torched, Coleman toasted his one on one on the outside and was wide open deep for a TD with an accurate pass from Allen had he not had the Ravens DL in his face of the snap. Then of course the next drive was the one he dropped which would have been another big play. Seeing Josh and Brady come back to him and trust him to make those great plays down field after was awesome. And I really think that this may have been a mini coming out party for him in terms of his involvement moving forward.

I agree with you about the OL. With the receivers, it’s hard to gauge them this game with the OL playing so bad and no run game support. But, I was encouraged by Coleman tonight and I’m hoping tonight’s silver lining is that he starts being more involved moving forward. He got open deep multiple times plus he had those great back shoulder plays. I have a feeling we will see his targets grow from this point on personally.

What I don’t understand is what happened to all the plans they had for Samuel. They use him like they don’t know what to do with him. -
