It is going to be interesting to see how they handle Knox this offseason. His cap hit is going to cause something to happen this offseason, and Kincaid looked much improved as a blocker at least this first week. I wonder if Kincaid keeps showing he can be a better blocker and more complete TE than was say expected when we drafted him, it makes me curious to how they will view Knox this offseason. I forget exactly what it is, but if I am not mistaken I think Knox cap hit next year is like $14M or something like that.

Given so much talk has come about regarding my receiver grade, let me provide a single example of what I am talking about when I said they earned their A grade. This is the Shakir TD, and I just went to Twitter to get the clip where it shows all the replay angles so you can see all the great team play on this TD. Ironically the person posting this also is pointing out all the people around Shakir like Hollins making key plays for this TD to be possible. You will see Hollins just wipe out the Nickel off the snap. Coleman blocks his guy all the way into the endzone to keep him from coming up and stopping the TD. Dawkins just destroys the safety. All these things led to Shakir's doing what he does best and utilizing his YAC and strength to get this all the way to the endzone. This is what an A+ performances look like that you don't find on stat sheets or fantasy football scores. And this is not an isolated play, this was happening all over the field on passes and runs. This play does not happen if any one of those blocks don't happen. If people don't think this is valuable and deserves to be part of a players grade, then I will just have to say let's agree to disagree. These are things that earn a guy like Davis a game ball against Dallas when he had 0 targets and no stats but still heavily impacted the game.
-
To be honest, I did not hyper focus on Knox as I just don't have enough time to really do that for every player on both sides of the ball. So I didn't catch anything that I noticed where I would say it was a bad play, but that doesn't mean none happened either. He made a huge play when we needed it on his grab and I did see some nice blocks from him. But I did watch Kincaid more to try and see how AZ was playing him, and why despite leading the team in snaps only got the one catch. And what I was most impressed from Kincaid from is that he sold his routes well, even on runs, and at least for this one game he was much improved as a blocker.
-
No, it was the other TD run where he had Keon. On the one he hurt his hand, Keon ran a short crossing route outside the endzone. On the one he could have hit Keon it was a perfectly ran slant but Allen saw the lane to the right and took off and in his post-game said he should have just thrown it. But I get it, Allen is still getting comfortable back there, building timing and trust with his new targets, etc. So when he has the short run there, I can see why his instinct had him take off.
-
You want to grade them on projected total stats when we had 9 people catch the 18 passes Allen completed? Huh? Let's just agree to disagree as this is going to get off the rails. No disrespect, and nothing personal, but I can't keep discussing this when you are talking about fantasy football rankings in your grading scale on how well they did their jobs Sunday. It is perfectly fine to have differing opinions, and this is only one week and proves nothing for the season anyway. GO Bills!
-
Yeah, that is Tuas game, we just have a history of getting to him and disrupting him and getting him off his early reads which is when he struggles. If you go back and look at every game Tua has played against us since Hill got there, neither have ever had a big day against us. Now our defense is missing two of our best players and has a lot of changes, so whether we can replicate that this week is yet to be seen. But Miami's OL struggled again week 1, so I am at least optimistic we can still get some pressure on him.
-
I won't argue against removing the +, but no way they should go to A- or B+. The receivers executed their jobs the entire game. They can only catch what is thrown, and Allen only had 2 pass attempts before our final drive of the first half. This team still put up 34 points. And many of the big plays that were runs had a lot to do with the receivers blocking down field. It was total unselfish football at its finest on film.

I did not give the Bills an A...I only gave grades on the positions on the offense. And the only reason the Cards were in this game was because of a ST blunder where 4 Bills should have tackled the runner but blew it, including Elam unfortunately. I would have given the Defense as a whole a B or B- given they adjusted and shut down the Cards for 3 points in the 2nd half after a rough start. But they also lost one of their best players in that half in Taron. I would have given ST a C as they had the big return, Bass made his kicks in the wind, but they made a huge blunder missing tackles to almost let the Cards steal the game. Overall, I agree, I think the Bills grade on the day was more of a B and wouldn't argue too hard against a B- with the penalites, fumble, and blown ST play. But the offense put up 34 points and outside some early rust, really had their way with AZ and all the units overall did their jobs really well.
-
Yeah, I agree and that is why I said its just one week, it proved nothing on the season. My grades are solely for this one game and I can only grade them on how they played regardless of who was lined up across from them. More importantly, AZ had no film on this offense coming into the game. And as the season goes on, we will be putting more and more film out there for DC's to use to try and game plan better for us. That is where Brady comes in and needs to show he can adjust once DC's start finding ways to disrupt the offense too.
-
The TE's were fine. See...you need to watch film and not google box scores. You aren't getting actual context nor are you properly evaluating their jobs on the field. Do this all year? You are the one coming at me here. You want to stick to your guns about your negative opinion on the group, totally fine, its one game, it proved nothing. But I watched their film, and I graded based on the film. You googled a box score and then accused me of issuing a "fake grade" off that fake analysis. So please, don't tell me "I don't want to do this all year" when you are the one doing this lol. I provided my honest opinion on what I saw...you don't have to agree with it.

Yeah, Allens fumble was a bad play, but his overall play for the game was MVP level. He had full command of the offense at all times. I did not ding him much at all on the fumble because he only played like 4 minutes all preseason with this group. It felt like he needed a minute to just get more comfortable and given how well he played after I more brushed it off. BUT...rethinking my grade, I could also ding him a bit for how careless he was carrying the football on his runs. He didn't fumble again because of it, but it was dangerous and hope he starts holding the ball a little more secure rather than palming it so much on runs where he is taking contact. And on the WR's, I can only grade them on the job they did. They did their jobs quite well. They only had 23 pass attempts, and only 2 before the final drive of the first half. Can't ding them because we didn't throw more and instead had 33 carries. When we threw, they were executing and doing their jobs. And when we ran, they were all over blocking helping spring Cook, Davis, and Allen on those carries. I don't love that Taron is out Thursday. But, Miami was a mess in the trenches Sunday, so we have proven to limit Tua and that offense by being able to disrupt Tua. And the way our group played this week, I think Groot is gonna eat again this week and we will keep Tua uncomfortable and limit their offense.

I won't disagree with your assessment with O'Cyrus actually. I was not as critical as you are here because the OL play around him covered for him a lot. But it was a poor outing for sure. And totally agree he looks out of condition, which is partly why I am not as concerned as I feel I should be. But his poor preseason now is bleeding into the first week, so something to watch. And yeah, Hollins popped on film. He looked like what people hoped Claypool was going to be. His routes were crisp and hands soft. And he was flying around as a blocker too that helped spring some of those nice runs. It is just 1 week, but it was an impressive debut for a depth receiver.

Dude stop. Did you watch the film? If you didn't then don't tell me the grade is "fake" because you base your grades solely on your fantasy football stats and are more committed to being right about your negative view than offering an unbiased review. The grade is based on how well they did their job. Period. We only threw the ball 23 times - 18 of which were completed, and they caught every pass. They were getting open all game giving Allen easy looks. They blocked about as good as I can recall ever seeing a group block and play so unselfish. Allen had just 2 pass attempts when we started our final drive before the half. We still scored 34 points. So...how about you don't do this all year long where you REFUSE to acknowledge good play because it doesn't fit your bias. Go watch the film on Hollins, the guy that even after Sunday you refuse to even soften your stance on and insist he is a total scrub who shouldn't be on the field. He played great, and so much so, other people reviewing this game have specifically pointed him out. I am going to critique the game based on what they did on the field. Until you spend the time to review their job performance instead of checking your fantasy stats, please don't come at me with these silly accusations that it was a "fake grade".

All I can judge him on is how he did with the guys lined up across from him. I don't care who they were, he had an excellent game. If you want to diminish that because you feel the competition was sub-par, well fine. I will admit, "one of the best players on the field" may have been a bit of an overstatement, so I will give you that and that was more of a reaction to seeing you kind of downplay is outing. I should have said one of the best OL on the field as so many other players also had great games. But if this is what we get every week from him I will be thrilled. It was awesome

What a way to start the season...I won't have time to do one of these every week, but I was just very interested in this first week as we finally got to see the veil removed on a lot of the unknowns. I spent most of the time reviewing the offense as that was what I was most interested in and excited to see since I have limited time. Feel free to expand on the defensive stuff for anyone with more insight there... QB - Grade A++ Its almost a waste of time to write anything here. He was a beast Sunday and showed why he is an MVP favorite this year. OL - Grade A- This was certainly an area I had high interest coming into this game and was excited to see. Between life after Morse, Spencer's new deal, O'Cyrus 2nd season, etc it had a lot of interest for me. I have to say 4 out of the 5 guys on the line really had a very good to outstanding game. The only one who didn't was O'Cyrus, and while it wasn't a disaster, it definitely was a down game for him and is what kept this groups grade from being an A+. I am still not too concerned, but he also had some struggles in the preseason games, so def something to keep an eye on. Spencer and Dion looked like one of the better tackle tandems in the league this week. Some early rust with some penalties, 2 on Dawkins who only had 6 all year last year. But outside of that, both had an outstanding game IMHO. One of my favorite plays of the whole day was watching Dion road grade in front of Shakir on his TD catch. It was a thing of beauty, and if you haven't seen it, go watch a replay from the endzone angle. Edwards had a very good game as well and McGovern didn't miss a beat replacing Morse out there and had a great debut as our new center. WR's - Grade A+ This group looked good this week. Not only were guys getting open regularly for Allen, but they were flying all over the field blocking for anyone running with the ball on catches, runs, or Allen taking off. This was a very bad day for the "our WR's suck crowd" because they played excellent team ball and consistently were giving Allen easy looks. Its one game...so despite the stellar showing, it does not yet prove anything. But for all the disaster and doom and gloom, this group went out and said "Hold my beer" week 1. Coleman could have had an even bigger game than he did. Allen had him on an easy slant for a TD on one of Allens TD' runs. Allen said he should have thrown it to Keon, and he isn't wrong, Keon beat his man for an easy TD on the slant. But Allen still scored as he saw also the easy run lane to get in as well. And Keon was getting open and position all game, but more importantly, he was flying to the ball as a blocker when the ball went elsewhere. My favorite Keon moment was when Shakir scored and he asked Shakir if he wants the ball and he said yes and Keon immediately went to the stands to try and get it for him. Shakir had to actually call him off of trying to get it as they needed to get off the field. For the "Hollins is a scrub crowd"...well go watch his film Sunday, if that is what a "scrub" looks like give me more "scrubs". He ran crisp routes, was open on several other plays where the ball went somewhere else and he was mauling people as a blocker on other plays he was out there. I said it in preseason...he is our WR5-WR6 essentially as a receiving option (Kincaid, Shakir, Keon, Samuel and then maybe Cook/Davis) probably be end of season. And I think you will be hard pressed to find a better WR5/6 on most teams. Shakir - This man is a beast. He was open all game long, and not only that, despite his size was out there blocking with the best of them when he wasn't getting the ball. And when he gets the ball, good luck tackling Deebo-Lite. And he is emerging as a leader for this group, go listen to his Mic'd up for this game. I can only imagine what he would do with 8-10 targets a game. TE's - Grade A On one hand, it feels weird giving a group an A that had 2 catches, but honestly, they did what was asked of them consistently all game. AZ focused on Kincaid and he sold his routes that opened up the field for everyone else. This is EXACTLY what I said all offseason to the "but Diggs is gone to draw double teams" crowd. It was unrealistic to think that no one else was going to attract extra attention just because Diggs is gone. And I pointed out guys like Kincaid, spying Allen, and trying to defend Keon's size is going to take extra attention. Literally all 3 of those things were on full display week 1. DISCLAIMER: Its just one week, we still need to see what this all looks like as DC's get more film and try to adjust to this new look offense. But none the less, this is exactly what I and many others expected to see. RB's - Grade A- I wanted to give this group an A, but dinged them a little for the efficiency drop later in the game. But Cook looked fast and more decisive than he had looked to me in pre-season, and Davis showed why there is so much hype on him. Interesting is Ty, he is clearly the passing down RB and Davis right now is the guy who spells Cook. And that is because Ty is better at pass pro than Cook, and Davis (who will probably prove to be the best at pass pro by seasons end) is a rookie and they aren't ready to trust him in the 2min drill like Ty when he took every snap on the TD before the half. Because of my limited time today, I again didn't spend as much time on the defense. So here are just some quick notes that stood out from watching the game live and skimming through it in review. How does Rapp keep hurting teammates? I can't think of another player who scared me when he was out there of hurting his teammates. Rousseau was a beast Sunday. He looked like one of the best DE's in the league for this first week. Even on Von's sack, it was Groot who made that sack possible IMHO. Von looks much better than last year, but it still isn't "vintage" Von which I think has always been an unrealistic hope. But it was encouraging to see that he has some value to this team. Babich impressed me with how they adjusted in the 2nd half. To go from what felt like a very scary first half (in terms of the rest of the season), to holding them to just 3 offensive points in the 2nd half is the kind of stuff I want to see from a DC. Bernard seemed very frustrated early on in that first half, but it was great to see him settle down and help lead the defense back. Dorian had a so-so game, his second half was better than his first. Did not expect to see so much Ingram this game, and didn't have a lot of expectations coming in, but from what I saw he played a pretty good game.

Spencer Brown was a manimal on Sunday as was Dawkins. Our tackles were mauling people out there. It’s only week 1, but his new deal versus his level of play Sunday is what I would bet will look like a bargain here pretty quick if this continues. Brown was literally one of the best players on the field Sunday. Are you trying to say different? And what happened to your “it’s just one play” defense of Diggs drop against KC? You want to disregard that Brown was mauling people all game because of what feels like a negative bias recount of one play?

Dude, the head of the “Diggs was the problem crowd” is Beane and Josh Allen. Take it up with them. -

What I said was you can blame one or the other…or you can look at it as more something was not clicking and working between those two in the big games. -
The Bills beat the Cardinals because… (superstition reasons only)

Because so many in the shout box and game day thread declared the game and season over in the first quarter and the football karma gods said “hold my beer” 🍺 -

Huh, we had a fine discussion. Did not realize the prerequisite for said discussion is that I had to end it being persuaded by you to yearn for Diggs. -
I have 3 leagues, and the one I got him in I had the 8th pick and took St. Brown. I did not love Bijan at 8, so it was really Saquan or St. Brown as my pick was one away and then he took Saquan at 7 making St. Brown the easy pick for me. Then it went Bijan, AJ Brown, Johnathon Taylor, and Garret Wilson. So Puka came back around to me. Although I didn't love Puka with a healthy Kupp in the first, was still happy to get him in the 2nd.

My dogs name is literally Diggs. I was all about Diggs, I defended him and said he is more misunderstood than he is of a give me the ball Diva. I have no doubt in my mind that Diggs is more driven to win a SB than pad his own stats. But...for all of Diggs regular season dominance where he was a perennial top 5 and even top 3 WR at times during his four years here, he was also remarkably ineffective in our biggest games. That is just a fact. Now you can blame Allen, which most of your write up does above, or you can blame Diggs...or more importantly...you can look at it more as something just wasn't working and clicking in these moments with Josh and Diggs. Last year, Diggs is on pace for his 2nd biggest individual season of his career...but we are 5-5. And in 7 of those games, the offense went 2-5 to teams with a .436% win rate and we were lucky to not be 0-7 as Giants and Bucs blew the game on the final plays of the game. We also averaged under 20 PPG in those 7 games. Then, Brady comes in and we go 6-1 to save the season, average 8 more PPG than we did in the final 6 games under Dorsey while emphasizing Diggs less. And once again, we are in a big game against KC...Diggs has his moment to make the big play to get us over the hump and ball goes right through his hands. I care about wins...you win games by scoring more than other team, not padding the stats of one player. We won more games, scored more points, and had a better chance to win when Diggs was less involved. Those are just facts. And in 4 playoff exits, Diggs was not the man no matter what excuse you want to bestow on him. Shakir on the other hand made big plays in both our playoff games last year, including a TD in each and would have had the go-ahead TD too had Dawkins not been blown up by Chris Jones into Allen on the play you showed Diggs open. But once again, that play should have never even happened if Diggs had just done his job earlier. I think Houston is a good place for him, and I think the Bills are in a better place without him. It was a win-win split up IMHO. And lets be real, Diggs days as a top 5 WR are likely in his rear-view mirror. Houston already voided his contract after this season, he will be a 31 year old FA WR next year likely coming off a season with less than 1000 yards.
