  1. Lions have a more crowded RB room than Chiefs. AP is at best third in depth chart in Detroit all year unless injuries happen and could see a lot of inactive too. In KC, he had a shot at earning the backup spot.
  2. I avoided Singletary. He’s going to have too many points vultured between Allen and Moss is my fear. But I drafted Allen, Diggs, and Moss in one league. In my biggest league I drafted Diggs and Bills D.
  3. So you think one thread I started equates to namath being talked about more than Brady. No offense, but literally dumbest comment in this thread.
  4. I get that, but at the same time, Sweeney isn't a rookie either, he already learned the offense last year. And he's not expected to have a large role from the get go with both Knox and Kroft healthy. So I think at this point, they saw enough upside in him last year and pretty much know there isn't much Smith brings into the fold outside his stewardship anymore. I get he's a good blocker, but he is also been too easily penalized. With this team full of leaders on and off the field now, I think Smith's value is diminished and the edge goes to Sweeney despite him missing a lot of camp. I could be wrong on this of course, definitely not a declaration here. Just my gut thinks Sweeney will make the cut and its most likely at the expense of Lee Smith. Also, seems like there were some rumblings about Croom having a strong camp this year too. So if thats accurate, I would assume his name is in the mix still. Of course, they could also keep 4 TE's as well, although I suspect they go for extra depth at other positions this year rather than keep 4 TE's. But you never know, maybe they feel safer with 4 given Krofts injury history.
  5. I do think Sweeney makes the 53 roster and probably at the expense of Lee Smith if I had to make a guess now. While they do love Smith's locker room presence, we have other leaders on this team too now. I just don't think he brings enough to the table on the field and is a penalty risk too often to continue to hold a roster spot on this much improved overall roster.
  6. I think CorkScrweHill said it best here...
  7. And if that is the only news available at the time, then thats the only news available. Giving him crap about it is silly.
  8. Exactly. Its like children around here. I for one appreciate JW coming by and given what insight he has at any given time. And its even more comical he's getting grief over Trent Murphy...not like he's alluding to some big trade acquisition with no details here, its a rotational player at best and people giving him grief because the info wasn't definitive yet. Geesh.
  9. Well, I wasn't around to see him play...even though I am not that young at 44. And yeah, I bet it was wonder to behold watching a 50%, turnover over prone, QB throw a ball since it was anyones guess if he was going to throw it to his own team or the other team 🤣...hahaha I jest, I jest... Thread was not meant to offend anyone, just some fun convo. Also acknowledged other posters have made some valid and good counter points, especially those who lived in his era to watch him play. Without the context of living through his era in awe of him, he's a pretty underwhelming QB historically to me. Maybe its because he was in NY, and I grew up on the west coast, but even the people I know older than me out here who did live in through his era feel he is the most over rated player.
  10. Huh? Not sure how that makes sense, I mean all time great players, especially ones with resumes that give them cases for GOAT conversations at their position or overall in their sport, are discussed still to this day from all eras in all sports. Even Ali, who you just mentioned, is still regularly talked about.
  11. Im just saying, when was the last time Namath was really talked about? When he seemed drunk and told the female reporter on camera he just wants to kiss her. Sorry, thats not a vendetta, thats just what happened. Meanwhile, people in the GOAT conversations will always be talked about. And my response was to someone who said Mahomes wont be talked about in 50 years...and I was saying that if Mahomes continues his path to looking like being one of the GOATS, if not the GOAT, when he is done, they will still be talking about him 50 years from now. Just like they talk about other greats in all sports.
  12. I guarantee they will talk about Mahomes a lot more than anyone talks about Namath. Once the people are gone who watched Namath play, no one will talk about him. Mahomes is on a path to be the greatest of all time, and if he reaches that pinnacle he will be talked about forever. I mean, Namath isn't even remotely talked about even today compared to people who talk about guys like Montana for instance. People talk about greatness, its true in every sport. If Mahomes continues on the path he is on, he will be talked about like Jordan is talked about. Namath doesn't get talked about at all really unless he's saying something creepy to a female reporter or appearing drunk while on camera.
  13. This. And that has been clear for 18 months...but we got a 23 page thread to go with many other long threads none the less. Bills could have made him an offer...they chose his teammate instead, Addison and drafted AJE. There was no chance at all we were signing Clowney, some just refused to accept that. I am so glad this is over, sick of hearing about a guy who was never close to coming here at any point.
  14. Yeah, I am big time in the camp that Bradshaw is one of the most over rated players in the HOF. But he did still get all those SB wins, and that definitely gives him some hall credentials. Bradshaw was nothing more than a game manager on an insanely talented team. But hey, he still made enough plays to get to all those SB's and win them, so I dont have an issue with his HOF presence so much. I only take issue with my Steeler fan friends who try and convince me he was a top 5 QB all time, which is just hysterically false.
  15. I will acknowledge some of you have some compelling counter points, and some of you are old enough to lived his era so he carries more meaning and impact to you. All good, I still don't think he was HOF worthy even though I fully acknowledge his contributions to the story of the NFL. At the end of the day, I am not convinced he makes the HOF if he doesn't make the prediction, even still winning the game. Fun discussion none the less so far
  16. Totally agree on this...ST is such an important part of the game and we even have a SB MVP from special teams...the lack of acknowledgement from the hall in this area is long been an issue. Every coach in history will tell you that you need to be good in all 3 phases of the game...HOF seems to think there is only 2 phases.
  17. Fair enough on that point...still disagree that his play warranted HOF credentials when there are a lot better players still on the outside looking in.
  18. I know that stuff...but that says a lot more about the AFL at that time than Namath. Sorry he wasn't a good QB, he was flashy and loud and got him fame. A prediction and fur coats are his legacy, not his great QB play.
  19. I wasn't saying no prediction and he lost. I am saying, if he still wins the game without the prediction he definitely does NOT make the HOF.
  20. But its not the hall of history. And while it contains the word "fame", and obviously Namath did have fame as part of his legacy, the grounds for enshrinement have always been about enshrining its best, not its most famous. True for all sports. So again, just can't agree that being part of the story of the early years makes one HOF worthy.
  21. I have to disagree that just being part of the NFL's story makes you HOF worthy. And while its called the Hall of Fame, we all know that the basis of the HOF is to enshrine its best. Not its most flamboyant, flashy, or famous. Otherwise guys like Jim McMahon would be in there too. I don't disagree that Namath has a place in the story of the history of the NFL, but so do a lot of people also not in the HOF. I mean, he has a case to be the worst player of any sport enshrined into its HOF. Namath was not a good QB, thats just the facts. And no one would care at all about him had he not made that prediction, just like no one cares about many underdog teams QB's who won the SB. Without the prediction, he's just a flashy but bad QB from NY who hit lightning in a bottle one time...for one game.
  22. Seriously, every time I see him doing a commercial I just look at him and ask why? In his entire career, he only had 2 seasons where he had more TDs than INTs (and barely had more in those 2 seasons). I mean he literally made the HOF over one game prediction and wearing fur coats. It’s a travesty he’s in the HOF while so many other players with substantially better careers are not. I mean he finished his career with 173 TDs to 220 INTs and a dismal 65 QB Rating.
