Should a losing team go to playoffs?
Alphadawg7 replied to BananaB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I disagree. Everyone has the same task to start the season. Win your division. I would make the case that because you have a better record than another division winner doesn't make you automatically more deserving IMO. Strength of schedules, injuries, strength of division, etc all make that an impossible thing to measure accurately (who is more deserving or the better team). Im fine with the rule, win your division and you are in. Divisions create rivalries too which make the game better IMO too. -

Not sure what you mean by that... I was saying if a 7-9 team can enter the playoffs and beat a winning team, then that seals the case that they should be allowed in if they win their division. Your reply sounds like its agreeing with me even though you wrote "Not me." to open it, but cant tell. Either way, its a silly discussion, if you win your division you should be in IMO. I mean there are so many potential circumstances around that division winner possibly being only 7-9. Maybe a slew of injuries to critical players early in the season caused them to start slow. Its just to subjective to just flat out say no one under .500 should be allowed in. You win your division, you earn a playoff birth. And given the fact not that long ago a 7-9 team went into the playoffs and beat the Saints in the first round shows that they shouldn't just flat out be banned from the playoffs. -

7-9 Seahawks beat the Saints in the first round of the playoffs. That pretty much puts a nail in this argument for me. -
How many "Bring back Fitz" threads are needed in a season. Every time Miami gets a win with Fitz, or Fitz has a good game people start this thread.

Houston? Well yeah, thats certainly an example...But how about San Diego, Atlanta, New Orleans, Green Bay, etc etc. There were many years that the Saints couldn't even make the playoffs while Brees was throwing for 5000 yards. Green Bay has had arguably the most talented QB of his generation and had many meh or disappointing seasons. San Deigo had a likely future HOF QB too piling up stats and missing the playoffs. Of course, you mentioned the Lions too with Stafford. Atlanta has struggled to even make the playoffs for half of Ryans career despite gaudy stats. Its been proven many times throughout NFL history, that high quality to elite QB isn't enough and rarely carries a team to the top without having at least a solid to good team around them. In fact, I would argue that there are more cases of average or worse QB's winning Super Bowls with good to great teams around them than there are elite QB's winning SB's with average or worse rosters around them.

Honestly, behind Allen and Diggs, I think Poyer was the third most deserving Bills player for the Pro Bowl this year. Not to knock Tre and Edmunds or say they didn't also deserve it, but Poyer to me had an even bigger case for the Pro Bowl and been one of the most consistent players on defense this year. Again, this isnt about Tre and Edmunds, its awesome they were selected again and no issue with that. But to me, as good as those guys are, Poyer was even better and its a travesty he wasn't also selected as well. To be clear, not saying he should have gotten one of their spots, just saying, he earned his birth with them too. Poyer stats: 9th in the NFL in total tackles (Leads ALL safeties in the NFL) 5th in the NFL in solo tackles (Leads ALL safeties in the NFL) Has 2 INT, 2 Sacks, and 2 FF. Also, was the top vote getter for his position in the AFC. How this man was snubbed for the Pro Bowl is beyond me. And something tells me Poyer is going to be extra motivated to rest of season and playoffs and will be playing with a chip on his shoulder.

👏👏👏 Looks great! More importantly thank you for all you do for this community. Have a safe and happy holiday season!!! GO BILLS!!!

Stephen has been complimentary to him, just isn’t going to anoint him over part of a regular season the way people did Wentz. He just wants to see him have success in playoffs and sustained success before he officially gives him that elite status. But he does admit he’s playing at elite levels now. I don’t see anything wrong with that take at all. Nick, Keyshawn and Skip are all still stupidly doubters and haters.

Minshew an option as backup QB?
Alphadawg7 replied to Mountain Man's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Im not really interested in Minshew, I think the real Uncle Rico is more appealing personally. Minshwer is Fitzpatrick without the talent...and Fitzpatrick is Farve without the talent. So you are basically saying you want a very poor mans version of a poor mans Farve on the roster. This is not the way. Im all for competition to Barkley, but I think Fromm should get a chance before we start making trades for guys. -
I didn’t realize the season ended today.

Yeah, I mean they had the video ready, Nick even said he hopes they could show it for this "bit". So yeah was all pre planned ahead of time and agreed to before going on air. But Nick Wright is a joke. He is basically just a clown trying to emulate Skip Bayless kind of loud shock statements to get a career.

Who is more instrumental in building the Bills?
Alphadawg7 replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
NOTE: I agree maybe my initial response sounded too snarky, so I went back and edited it. I like the OP @Beerball overall and didn’t mean it to sound snarky. I just feel like there are plenty of times where Beane doesn’t get enough credit or McD doesn’t get enough credit. I mean people were talking about firing McD and/or Beane multiple times this year after a loss, even the AZ loss. So when I saw this poll my reaction was more about they both deserve the credit as they were each critical to getting us to where we are today. -

I already said that a HC has more influence to a degree, and the ceiling in that is low. Changing the culture is hugely important, but it only gets you so far if the talent and right players aren’t in the locker room. The question was about getting the Bills to this point. IMO we are far beyond an “over achieving” team and have a very talented roster that McD is also developing and coaching well. That takes a GM getting the right pieces. Not every situation is the same. What if a new HC comes in along with a GM and that team already had a strong roster and had been underachieving? Well then, clearly the coach would be more impactful as the rosters was largely there and needed a coaching change. But we were a total rebuild both with roster and the cap. And that is a different animal. It took both great coaching and a great GM to get to where we are. And I don’t think Buffalo is where it’s at if you remove either one of Beane or McD and to do so is marginalizing the other which I don’t think is fair. So still stand by my original answer that both had a huge impact and it’s not really possible to quantify whose was bigger. We don’t know how much influence McD had over roster decisions, draft picks etc. What we are told is that they worked as a team every step of the way in shaping this roster, creating the right culture, etc...and again points to both being equally important. -

Guess I just don’t respond to waste of time questions then very well. And given the amount of answers saying both, I think the proof is in the replies and the OP is getting their answer. -
Overrated. He is not a bad coach, but also not a great coach. Id say he’s somewhere between solid and good, closer to good. But he is too often talked about as a great coach. He’s actually always been pretty terrible at managing a game clock and made so many head scratching decisions in game for me to ever be in the elite category. Just my 2 cents

But I said any poll that doesn’t have both as an option, which “All of the above” Is always an option in a poll like this, is not with discussing. And you literally just said that in your reply to me when you said “That doesn’t necessarily mean that one is more influential than the other. Just who WE THINK is.” So you are acknowledging that clearly both is a viable answer, which is the very thing I took exemption to with this poll. And you and I both know “both” is the real answer and anything other than that is just splitting hairs to answer an incomplete poll. We don’t have the same success without Beane and we don’t have the same success without McD. To quantify who is more important or played a bigger role is not really possible given the roles are completely different. So I stand by my original answer that both have been equally important to our success. I do agree, that a HC could make a bigger impact in terms of what he gets out of the roster, but he also won’t get very far either and will have a low ceiling if the roster isn’t good enough. Is McD capable of winning with a mediocre or worse roster? Yes, and probably more so than most coaches, and he proved that his first year here. But ultimately, he won’t get far either with said roster and to take the next step the GM is equally important to the teams success by building a roster that supports the coaches plan, system, scheme, attitude, etc. -

Any poll like this doesn’t have both as an option is not worth discussing IMO. -
Bills sign Brandon Beane to contract extension!!!
Alphadawg7 replied to Logic's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Literally one of the worst takes and posts I’ve read all year. It’s in contention for worst take of the year IMO, and that’s quite an accomplishment considering what gets said around here in hot take moments. I don’t even know how it’s possible to write something this long and have none of it really reflect things accurately. -

So well deserved, easily one of the top GMs in the league and one of the best coaching and GM pairings in the league.
