How many points did the Packers score when they got bounced by Jimmy G led 49ers? A QB they are now trying to get rid of by the way... Bills averaged 41.5 points per game in the playoffs this year. Josh Allen had 9 TD's, 0 turnovers and in one game had more TD"s than incompletions. Josh Allen is 2nd in NFL history to only Dan Marino for most TD's thus far through his career. He has one of the highest playoff QB ratings in history. So, while I don't really have a problem if someone still finds Rodgers scarier (which lets be honest, has probably more to do with resume than where they are today as QB's) than Allen because he is still elite. But to flat out state there is no chance Allen is scarier than Rodgers highly suggests you seem to think there is this wide gap between, which IMHO is completely wrong. There is not one single thing Rodgers can do that Allen can not also do. BUT...there are multiple things that Allen can do that Rodgers not only cant do today, but never could do at any point in his career. Allen can make every throw Rodgers can and probably a couple Rodgers cant. Allen make plays with his legs that not only Rodgers cant, but no QB in the NFL can make, not even Lamar. So when the question is about who is scarier to defend...its easy to see why someone would say Allen, because there is a lot more you have to defend when facing Allen than Rodgers. And quite frankly, I will add in that Allen is also better at motivating his teammates and making everyone around him better...where Rodgers will immediately throw teammates under the bus after a loss, just like the Niners loss last year in the post game press conference.

I hate it when people say “Andy Dalton”. We would have won 10 games instead of 9 had Tyrod started against Chargers. I was at that game, and Chargers were a losing team, only had 2 close wins over bad teams and were on a 3 game losing streak. Tyrod came in 2nd half and was moving the ball no problem. I was at that game and other Charger games that year. No one can convince me we still lose if Tyrod starts that game against that bad team. So for me, his legacy is as a class act, good teammate who was solid but not great and helped snap the 17 year drought. Two pro bowls, highest scoring era outside the SB years up that time (Allen offense obviously surpassed that now too making Tyrod era now 3rd highest scoring bills era), and saddled with terrible coaching. He should not be crapped on. Don’t have to think he was great (which he wasn’t great), but he wasn’t remotely as bad as his naysayers say and doesn’t deserve the venom some people spit at him.

The only Josh Allen Run That Needs to Go Away
Alphadawg7 replied to JESSEFEFFER's topic in The Stadium Wall
Serious question: Why do you feel the need to take something and utterly grossly exaggerate it all the time to over dramatize something on the board? No one said he was a bad OC, but here you are exaggerating the critique of some of his decisions as if everyone is saying he sucks or something. I think its more than fair to question running your $250M QB on first down between the tackles off the snap. Not really something you want to see a lot of. Or critiquing the times he would try and get too cute or tricky in critical moments instead of just running their best play. None of that translates into saying he was a bad OC, but like any coach or player, for as good as they are there are still things that need to improve or could have been done better. And everyone and their mom knows the weakest area for Daboll was in the run game. He did a good job here overall and was definitely worthy of landing a HC gig, but even the "hottest candidate the last 2 years" is a bit dramatic. I mean he got 2 interviews the year before and didn't get offered a job and was passed over by Chargers and Jets and had to return for another year in Buffalo instead. -
The only Josh Allen Run That Needs to Go Away
Alphadawg7 replied to JESSEFEFFER's topic in The Stadium Wall
Im not talking removing using his legs by any means, its a big part of his game. BUT...I am saying stop running FB/RB style runs with our QB straight up the gut of the defense off the snap into tons of contact for no reason. Josh is not a RB, he is a QB, and too often Daboll ran him up the middle right into defenders as if he was a FB. And those types of runs were not a big part of our success, it was his least successful designed run in terms of YPC and he always takes hits because there is no time to get down as he is running right up the gut into defenders off the snap. Allen is substantially more effective with his legs when the designed run is to the outside or its a run after he has dropped back to pass and either takes off by design or takes off because the lane is there and he doesn't have his targets open down field. All of his longest runs up the middle were after he has dropped back to pass first and then took off, not taking it off the snap inside the tackles. So by all means, let Josh run for sure. But lets get him running in space more on roll outs, sweeps with blockers, or when the targets aren't open down field where he can get chunk yardage and still get down or out of bounds to avoid the hit. -

Not sure I follow you here...I didn't say anything pertaining to what you responded with. In fact, I said do not remove the QB sneaks because its almost a guaranteed successful play based on Allens career with a only a couple that didnt work. I was critical of Dabolls unnecessary attempt at being tricky on the goal line one against Ten instead of just lining up from the get go to run the sneak so Josh could get set and not rush getting into position because he was shifting back from shotgun to over center. -

Im not blaming it all on Daboll, but it was a stupid and unnecessary movement that fooled no one. One of many examples where Daboll tries to be too creative in a critical moment instead of just running his best play. If you’re gonna sneak it there, get to the line and sneak it. Don’t waste time moving Josh around and adding in the opportunity for him to not get his best push off the ball. Watch him sneak it every other time and you can see the difference and why he never got his feet and balance set like he normally does when he just lines up right at the LOS and rams it down their throat. -
The only Josh Allen Run That Needs to Go Away
Alphadawg7 replied to JESSEFEFFER's topic in The Stadium Wall
They need to remove all Josh runs designed for RB's essentially up the middle. Far too often Daboll STUPIDLY called Allens number for power inside runs or draws up the middle off the snap, and not like 3rd and 1 type things, talking first down 2nd and long stuff. Josh is MOST effective running when taking off after nothing opens up down field or on some of the blocked sweeps outside. His shortest YPC and where he takes the most damage are these stupid runs up the middle like he is a FB or something. I mean its right into the beef of the defense and no one is cleared out even because its right off the snap. When Allen breaks big runs up the middle, its after he has dropped back to pass and saw an opening to take off where the middle is wide open and can get free then get down to avoid contact. When its right off the snap, there is no avoiding contact and puts Josh at risk for injury or even a fumble. To be clear, I am not suggesting removing QB Sneaks, his conversion percentage makes this an almost guarantee when he runs it. I mean I can only recall a couple times where he didn't convert and the only meaningful one being the Titans game where stupid Daboll tried to be tricky having Josh start in shotgun and move to the line where he didn't get his feet set and slipped. But I PRAY these inside power runs off the snap and other dumb run calls left with Daboll. For as good as Daboll could be at times, he could also be unbelievably stupid with things like this. -

Funny, very early on when people kept trying to compare Josh to Cam Newton (which some still foolishly do), I kept pushing back and saying no, thats the wrong comparison. Maybe in the ability to run with strength, but all comparisons stopped there. For me, since Josh's rookie year, the real comparison was always Steve Young. Not sure how old everyone is here, but at 45 (soon to be 46 on Monday) I got to watch Steve Youngs career as I lived in the Central Valley of CA during that time. And he IMHO is an all time great QB and was one of the funnest QB's to watch of his time. He was an elite QB first and foremost, who could kill your defense at a moments notice with his legs, extend plays, and throw with precision on the run. Everything about Josh Allens game reminds me a lot of young in terms of style...but Allen just has an even bigger arm and an even more gifted and powerful runner. But stylistically I think they are similar players. And truth be told, I think Josh Allen has the potential to be a lot better than even Steve Young was. I am not gonna get ahead of myself here, but just looking at his trajectory, talent, unique abilities, and his constant improvement...Josh has the potential to reach top 5 all time discussions by the time his career is over. Doesn't mean he will get there, its gonna take sustained success, consistency, good health, and probably more than one SB title to enter top 5 discussions. But, its not often you can talk about a young player and see a path to where he could be top 5 all time. For example...I can look around the league and see younger or veteran guys who have pro-bowl or even HOF potential...but not many you can look at and say, this guy could finish top 5 all time potentially when his career is over. Few show that type of potential...guys like Mahomes and Allen do though.

This is how I look at it: Is there any other QB where Josh Allen can not do all the things they are capable of doing? Answer: NO Is there any other QB that can do ALL the things that Josh Allen can do? Answer: NO Its really just that simple. If you look at all of todays best QB's, and even all the greatest QB's in history...can any of them do things Josh Allen can't? There really isn't any example of anyone that is capable of things Josh isn't capable of doing himself. And yet, if you look at all the things Josh can do, there is no QB in history capable of doing everything he can do on the field. And honestly, the closest is Patrick Mahomes. But even compared to Mahomes, there are just things Allen can do with his legs and running ability that Pat can't even though Pat is also quite good with his legs himself. So I do really think Palmer is correct here...doesn't mean Josh is, or will be, the greatest to ever play. It takes more than talent and physical gifts to reach those accolades. But talent to talent comparison, I don't think Palmer is wrong.

All good, I see it similar but different. McD absolutely has a bigger role in the culture change, don’t disagree with you. But when the GM comes in and decides not to pick up the rookie 5th year option and then trades what is widely considered your most talented, and young, offensive player in Watkins because he no longer fits into the long term plans…well that sends a message immediately about the culture. Along with the other moves I discussed prior. But all this is splitting hairs. We are only even discussing this because Einstein foolishly has been trying discredit Beanes success overall and the first playoff run got mentioned. At this point, who cares about 2017…this is about a few people here who are foolishly trying to slam Beane and minimize the job he’s done since arriving in Buffalo. Which quite frankly is one of the most ridiculous and dumbest things I’ve ever seen on this board.

I clearly see the Bills as the odds on favorites to win the SB. But the world isn't as black and white as you want to make it seem. The best team/roster doesn't always win the title each year, especially in the NFL where you don't play a series like Basketball, Football, or Hockey...its a single game, win or go home. Any team can win on any given day. Sometimes a team just has a few breaks that go their way or against them and that can be the difference in the game. The Bengals, who made the SB, also lost to the JETS. Doesn't mean the JETS are better than the Bengals though. Nick Foles is NOT better than Tom Brady, but he caught lightning in a bottle and beat a Tom Brady led Pats team despite Tom throwing for over 500 yards. They play that game 10 times, Eagles may not win more than the 1 or 2 games.

I missed that...wow, thats pretty gross. Guess in his mind, that would mean he doesn't think Dale Earnhardt was an elite NASCAR driver then either lol.

Lets see...most the sports world lists us as the SB Favorites. Vegas lists us as the SB favorites. Fans see this team as a SB favorite. So yeah, Buffalo is setup for a SB run this year, and that is the expectation. But we are talking about pre-season rankings...on paper, the Bills are seen by almost everyone as the best roster in the NFL right now. But you still gotta play the games, still gotta deal with variables like weather, injuries, schedule, rosters decisions, etc. But TODAY, until those games are played, Bills are the most common favorite. Only time will tell how that story plays out. I mean, thats all pretty obvious...not sure why this has you so perplexed.

Just to clarify on Darby, I didnt say he was a malcontent, just that he wasn't a fit clearly for what McD wanted. And they replaced him with Gaines, who did play well opposite Tre for the 11 games he started. So Darby was a scheme fit decision, at least as far as we all heard and know. Who made chose the final 53 roster? Beane. Who traded multiple starters prior and during the season? Beane. Who made an in season acquistion? Beane. And we were a 7 win team. To think that a shift in culture didn't have anything to do with our improvement as a team is short sighted IMO. I mean we won 2 more games with essentially less talent than the season before. And had McD not tried the Peterman experiment out against the lowly Chargers who were sub .500, on a losing streak, and only had narrow wins against the worst teams...then we probably win that game and finish with 10 wins instead of 9. Its not all Beane, I mean McD is a huge part of that, and even a bigger factor. I am just saying, its short sighted to think Beane didn't have his stamp on that roster himself and the shift in culture that helped get the most out of our roster. I even remember multiple veteran players even commented after the KB trade that they appreciated the fact Beane was supporting what they were doing on the field by trying to add pieces to help their payoff push despite clearly in the process of rebuilding. All good...we agree on most things, but don't have to agree on everything. I just think Beane is being a bit short changed to say he didn't impact that season or roster much.
-
The current roster has never played a single NFL game, or even a scrimmage, together yet. The current roster is what is listed as the best roster in the NFL, as in TODAY, not in past years. But hey, who cares about facts, logic, and reason right when you can just spout nonsense instead to force a flawed and silly narrative.

Have to very respectfully disagree with you here Gunner. Beane traded away Watkins, Darby, and Dareus. Make no mistake about it, a big part of our playoff run in 2017 had to do with a shift in culture. Coming off a 7 win season, changing the locker room, culture, and mindset can easily result in a few more wins. It’s why teams fire coaches all the time and change front offices, because they believe someone else can get more out of the roster and locker room. And both McD and obviously Beane contributed to that in different ways. Beane jettisoning guys who were considered part of our core just a year prior that didn’t fit what we wanted to do as a team 100% impacted both the locker room and how the guys came together. Plus, he made the decisions on the final 53…and decisions like I said that saw us trade what was previously seen as our best offensive player and our young starting DB that was considered a promising player previously. Then what was at one time considered our best defensive player in Dareus during the season. And no one disagrees KB overall was a miss, but…that trade did unquestionably help us make the playoffs which was the entire point of the trade when we found ourselves surprisingly in the running for a playoff spot to potentially break the streak. And that also shows the guys on the field that Beane wasn’t just giving up and cleaning house, but showing he’s willing to put a wrinkle into his rebuild strategy to support and help those guys win now. Which is something that also goes a long way into the rebuilding of a culture. So for me, I don’t care that Beane didn’t participate in the draft, he was in here right after the draft and he begun shaping the roster and culture in a lot of ways that surprised people and in ways Whaley would NOT have. So for anyone to say Beane had no impact on that season is just not something I can agree with and completely over looks the entire role of a GM, which is a lot more than just the draft. Just the sheer fact he did things Whaley was not ever going to do like trade Watkins, Darby, and Dareus is enough of a reason to see that Beane had some fingerprints on that team. I mean his moves that year set the entire foundation for our culture and our future.
