And that literally has nothing to do with the question here. Spiller was not a multiple time pro bowler who led his team at his position for 5 years. He had one big year, so he hadn’t proven he could do it again. Meanwhile, Edmunds is among the leaders in tackles across the whole NFL over his time in the NFL, just like Fletcher was. Sorry but this comparison was a fail.

Bills reportedly interested in Jamaal Williams
Alphadawg7 replied to SCBills's topic in The Stadium Wall
Henry also only averaged 4.3 last year, not a huge difference. Jamaal plays a lot like Henry, a big powerful guy with great burst and acceleration. Henry has a little more top end speed, but Jamaal has more agility in tight spaces. And he will be a lot cheaper and has a lot less wear and tear. He also won't command 20-25 touches a game like Henry will. Plus, Jamaal brings a fire and energy few players in the NFL bring. -
Bills reportedly interested in Jamaal Williams
Alphadawg7 replied to SCBills's topic in The Stadium Wall
Sorry, if you don't think Jamaal Williams would be a good signing, then I don't know that you have watched him or the Lions play. Jamaal isn't just running through gaping holes by the Lions offense, he is running with power and finding slivers to get through and finding his own holes. He is getting stuffed and then bouncing it outside for the score. He is ripping off big runs in other parts of the field. He had a 4.1 YPC despite being a short yardage and redzone specialist with Swift there, and there were times where Jamaal ran more as the number 1 back over Swift. This guy is a smart, passionate, and fiery football player who can find creases that most guys wont despite being a big powerful back. Then of course he brings that power, but its an explosive power, he has very good acceleration and burst. And he is a very good receiver out of the backfield too. For those saying "But Bijan"...well you need to move on. There is not much of a chance Bijan is getting to us at 27, he might even go top 10. But ever if by some miracle Bijan slipped to us, they could still draft him. Signing Jamaal doesn't mean they can't draft Bijan if he unexpectedly falls to us. How many Redzone trips did we not score a TD on last year? How many short yardage plays did we see kill drives? And you don't want a guy who was maybe the best in the NFL in those areas last year and has been most his career? Not to mention, he is a great pairing with Cook where they can play a lot like Ingram and Kamar did in NO for so long.- 229 replies

Im not sure we can afford the draft assets to move up. If we lose Poyer and Edmunds too, plus all the needs we have at OL and WR, hard to see Beane moving up this draft. Feels more like a move down year if anything. Now if we traded a player like Davis or Oliver, then maybe we would go up for someone they covet if they get within an affordable range to do so.

But, the only facts that matter is that his contract makes him impossible for the team to trade, which makes trading Diggs a dead topic. We can’t trade him without severely hurting the team the next 2 seasons while we are trying to compete for Super Bowls. He has a $35m dead cap hit this year unless traded after June 1st, where he still has over a $12m dead cap hit. Then he still has a $24m dead cap hit next year. Trading him would be a disaster for a team with little cap space. It’s never going to happen without something catastrophic happening with Diggs where the team has no choice. He is clearly the 2nd best player on the team behind only Allen, so losing him already sets the team back as we are not replacing him with someone as good as he is right now. And with the cap hits will prevent us from upgrading the team elsewhere and could even cost us to lose players too. Diggs isn’t set to go anywhere at this stage unless significantly more substantial develops.

No worries, happens all the time, usually a product of recency bias and to be fair to you, he had missed time 2 consecutive years. Just this year it wasn’t because he couldn’t stay on the field, it was over him not being eligible to be in the field from things he did working to recover the year before. That being said, he is entering an age where injury is still of a higher risk regardless, so there will always be a little risk once a receiver gets into his 30’s.

This. We have a lot of holes we need to fill based on players who won’t be back. Then we still have places we already needed to seriously upgrade like along the OL and offensive playmakers. If anyone thinks we made these moves to be major players in FA then you’re surely going to be disappointed. We will be active, because we need bodies, but we most likely won’t be big players at the top of the market. That cap space needs to be spread around, including signing our draft class. Our best chance at a significant addition IMHO is via trade where we offload some salary in the acquisition of said player. For example, I could see us trading Ed Oliver for a WR or OL help, or even for someone to replace guys we may be losing like Poyer, Edmunds, and Devin.

Why do you say that? Other than his injury in 2021 where he missed 6 games, he only missed 2 games the rest of his entire career due to injury. In 2022, he missed games due to suspension for something he was taking during his recovery from the 2021 injury. He wasn’t hurt. He has shown no issues staying on the field and showed this year he has plenty left in the tank too.

Bears to trade #1 overall pick to Panthers
Alphadawg7 replied to Draconator's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yeah, agree they likely still make a trade and get a nice haul. My original comment was that Texans gave them a gift of getting even more by just having won their last game and giving them the top pick. -

I doubt Carolina gives them this same package to take the second QB in the draft though if Houston had the top pick -

Bears only got the first pick because Houston won their last game of the season or Houston would have had the top pick. -
100% Bijan is the best player in the board period if he is there at 27. And it won’t be close, he will be the unquestioned BPA if he lasts to 27. But not to worry, he won’t sniff the 27th pick, and may not make it out of the top 10. So I think it’s safe to say Bijan won’t be a Buffalo Bill.

Ironically when Fletcher was here he was the whipping boy like Edmunds has been here. I loved Fletcher, but the irrational nonsense around here was almost the same as Edmunds. As the leader in tackles, all anyone here said over and over was that it didn’t matter, Fletcher made the tackles too far downfield because he sucks so he has to go. All he did was go on to KEEP being one of the best LBs in the game for a long time. Bills would go on to have crappier play at LB for a long time. Posters here were as wrong about Fletcher sucking as they are about Edmunds sucking. Im totally fine not resigning Edmunds for cap reasons, but he definitely doesn’t suck and he’s been better than the over exaggeration of his detractors around here claim. I wish him well in his next destination and I have a feeling he’s going to have continued and maybe even greater success elsewhere.

Bears to trade #1 overall pick to Panthers
Alphadawg7 replied to Draconator's topic in The Stadium Wall
What a massive gift the Texans gave the Bears. That trade haul was a massive home run for the Bears. I am surprised the Panthers included More who would have been a valuable piece for the new QB. Especially since they could have probably just traded Moore on his own somewhere else and regained one of those premium draft picks. Agree this wreaks of desperation by the Panthers -
It’s not about giving up on him, it’s a no win situation for the Bills. If Davis has another similar year, they are going to need to replace him anyway, it won’t be good enough. But if Davis has a big year, we won’t be able to afford paying him and Diggs big money at WR that he would command in FA that would be at a min over $20M per year and could be quite a bit higher depending on just how big his season was. Translation: It is highly unlikely Davis remains a Buffalo Bill after next year. So if we can get a 3rd or better, I would pull the trigger right now personally. But I am not convinced a guy coming off a disappointing season with a terrible catch rate, and among the league leaders in drops is going to bring back even a 3rd rounder.

Defensive Coordinator Candidates…whose worth a look?
Alphadawg7 replied to Wizard's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yeah, I am also on board for compiling future valuable assets next year, and it is something I think is a real possibility this year. I also wouldn't be surprised if Beane traded Oliver before the draft too. While I won't go as far as to say I expect it, I think it is something that could be in play if the right offer was there as I don't get the impression from Beane or McD comments that they see him here past next season based on what he has done so far. -
Defensive Coordinator Candidates…whose worth a look?
Alphadawg7 replied to Wizard's topic in The Stadium Wall
I don't think it's fair thought to say McD has used Frazier to shield himself though. The one thing about McD is that he doesn't publicly throw people under the bus and keeps it all in house. If you want to say some fans defend McD by assigning more complaints to Frazier, that is fine, but McD himself has never used anyone as a shield for himself IMHO. For example, McD was reportedly screaming when he saw the DB's ten yards off the LOS on 3rd and 4 before the snap (as we all were). This was a critical play, so much so it was even referenced by Beane in the end of year presser. But McD didn't come out and cite that and blame the play call or anything. It is one of the reasons McD is so respected amongst the players and staff, he doesn't air things out in the media. I do agree, there will be a lot more responsibility this year in how the defense performs on McD's shoulders though. He is going to face potential scrutiny both as a HC and DC now and there will be more pressure on him. Agree on McD and this. I think its pretty obvious McD is a good coach based on his accomplishments going back to his first year here, and his defensive accumen is also well established as one of the top defensive minds in the league right now. This is definitely IMHO the most critical offseason for Beane as a GM since facing drafting the right QB when it was clear we going to take a QB early in 2018 and traded assets to be in position to do that both before and during the draft. He doesn't have the war chest he has had in previous years between cap space and draft assets. We no longer have a rookie contract at QB, we draft late every round, have no extra picks of value, and entered the offseason well over the cap with several key starters set to hit free agency. He planned ahead for this and built in the flexibility into the contracts he gave out to be able to navigate this offseason. However, there is little room for error given the state of the competition around us. Jets seem like they will land Rodgers, isntantly making them a bigger threat to the AFCE title. Miami is still formidable, and could still even upgrade further at QB. KC is still KC, and Bengals have a lot more cap space to be bigger free agent players this offseason than us. Then there are teams like Jax that are on the rise and even before the offseason begins are getting Calvin Ridley into their offseason next year now that he is back from suspension. Just means Beane really needs to make the right moves in free agency and how he uses his money, and then we need to also get relevant contributions this year from our draft class much like KC did last year. If we can do that, we will absolutely remain one of the top SB contenders in the league, but that margin of error is tighter this year than its ever been. -
Sorry people reading reports written by real scouts who have studied these guys for a year or even multiple years is not “identifying talent”. Nobody on this board is “Identifying talent”. You wouldn’t have even heard of like 90% of the players in the draft if not for media mock drafts and scouting reports. The most popular “mock draft” writers around here are wrong a lot more than anyone wants to admit. And most of what they write is the same regurgitated stuff written in every online mock draft.

How does this indicate if someone can “hit better than NFL GMs”? I mean NFL GMs don’t get to draft their top 10 prospects in the whole draft. So how does someone choosing their 10 best prospects compare to a GM picking one guy from a pool of only the players still available when they are actually on the clock, and then not drafting again for another 32 picks at least to pick the next? Doesn’t make any sense, not remotely comparable to an NFL GM.
