Will DeAndre Hopkins be available this offseason?

Hahaha that would be hilarious. I am not gonna get to amped, just a curious couple of things to put up. I mean he could easily just be messing with people for the fun of it. -

The orange juice thing is only curious because OJ played for the Bills and he first posted a video of him with the lyrics Buffalo Solider playing in the background. -

He has some interesting posts, one on instagram playing Buffalo Soldier as the music and the other on Twitter drinking orange juice. Maybe he’s just trolling, maybe he’s teasing something, maybe it’s nothing. But it sure is curious set of posts from him right now... -

Should we trade Ed Oliver?
Alphadawg7 replied to Floridagatorsbuffalobills's topic in The Stadium Wall
Agree, except I don't think I would do both Gabe and Oliver unless we got a decent draft pick included with Hopkins. -
Biggest gain is Hardman wants to be there, Moore doesn't though. Moore wants a bigger role, a chance to start. Hardman accepts what his role is at this point of his career.

I would have easily made the same trade for him, but Jets were never sending him here. This is a good move for Cleveland and makes since for the Jets given their signings.

Should we trade Ed Oliver?
Alphadawg7 replied to Floridagatorsbuffalobills's topic in The Stadium Wall
Im with you on this...I do think we should trade Oliver simply because I think there is almost no chance they pay him and extend him next year. But, I would MUCH rather see Oliver included in a trade that brought back immediate help somewhere on this team plus a draft pick either this year or next year. For example: If we trade Oliver and get his salary off the books so we can make a move for say Hopkins, then that is the kind of move that can move the needle for this team this season. Bills w/Hopkins >>> Bills w/Oliver IMHO. And if we can say get AZ to eat $9M of Hopkins salary, maybe we can just ship Oliver in a package for Hopkins where the cap hits wash this year. Still need to get his next years cap hits down, but they can just do a small extension to handle that. But Oliver has more value to the team IMHO than just shipping him out for a decent draft pick slot in a mediocre at best draft. We are still pressing for a SB this year, so I don't think just opening another hole is the best approach unless we are upgrading somewhere else. Oliver isn't a bum, he just isn't really moving the needle either due to his inconsistency. -
This really is a fantastic read, and it really lets fans into the real world business behind the scenes of the NFL that they don't see on TV or even know exists. There is a reason every Dolphin fan I know hates that we got him too. I think this guy brings a lot to this team, and I keep seeing everyone listing him as 5th on the depth chart or looking at him as just a ST guy. But he is going to be the immediate backup on the outside, and I wouldn't be surprised if he eats into Davis snaps this season unless Davis has a major bounce back. I actually think it could potentially mirror 2021 when Sanders was the #2 and Davis started eating into his snaps in the 2nd half of the season and Davis started carving out a bigger role. I think Diggs/Davis/Sherfield will resemble snap counts of Diggs/Sanders/Davis in 2021 and Harty (having replaced McKenzie) will compete with Shakir for the starting slot position and could have some rotation there too as they both bring different things to the table.

Agree...Beane seems confident in him, at least in his pressers. Although he does acknowledge it wasn't the season expected of Gabe, but I think Beane see's it more as injuries earlier in the season impacted him and he just didn't bounce back fully from that. For me, its a weird spot to be in because last offseason I was very high on Gabe, and not only because of the KC game. I had been saying the offense was clicking better with Gabe getting more reps and Sanders getting less ever since Sanders reg season injury opened the door for that. I really felt like a break out year was on the docket for 2022 and he was of the players I was most excited to see in his new starter role as the season opened. But wow, did he just not come close to expectations. People talk mostly about the low catch rate and drops, but his struggles were so much more than that. He really struggled to get separation on his routes, and a lot of his production relied on a big play or Josh extending plays that allowed Gabe to finally get open. But not winning on routes was a big issue at WR for us this year, because it kept Allen from getting the ball out faster and our OL sucked too much to hold protections. Then there were the concentration and focus issues where he would run a route short of the sticks, or have plenty of room to get his feet down in bounds and not come close to doing it. And you could see the dejection on his face when he made mistakes, like he was struggling with the mental aspect of the game. I am not ready to write him off, but this year is the first year since Gabe has been here where I went into an offseason concerned about him and one has to wonder if he can rebound and get back to being an ascending player or if he has already hit his ceiling.

Good info...however, a lot of fans don't see this info the same. A lot of guys who were consistent starters, especially ones drafted in first 2 to 3 rounds, will be seen as busts by fan bases because they expect all this picks to be studs or pro bowlers, and that just isn't the case. My favorite part is when people call players "busts" then say to trade them for like a 2nd round pick. LOL

Oh yeah, I have the same concerns. I do think his rookie year was encouraging enough that it was reasonable to have an optimistic outlook on him continuing to develop, but it definitely wasn't at the level where you could say he was the long term solution at RT. And last year was a train wreck. I hope I am wrong and we at least bring in competition for him in the first half of the draft as I think he is the biggest question mark on the OL at this moment. But, like I said, I think Beane's comments lend more towards they don't feel pressure to go get a guy earlier in the draft.

This is like the 3rd straight thing you just made up to validate your belief this segment about Hopkins best fit is somehow some DaVinci Code segment secretly telling the world that he is most likely going to the Bills. Its all good man, if you want to jump to all these conclusions to give you hope of a trade, then you do you bud. I would love to see Hopkins in Buffalo too, so I get the want for that. And Buffalo very well may be interested, and he could end up a Bill. But this segment clip just isn't proof or any indication that it is in the works IMHO. -
I don't disagree here, him at RT makes me nervous given just how bad he was in pass protection last year. I think I saw his rookie year as more encouraging than you did, so if Brown was truly struggling as a result of the injury stuff, then I think he has a little more potential than you do. But...we are in the midst of a SB window, and it won't last much longer. In 2 years this team is going to look significantly different. Hyde and Poyer will be gone, Von and Oliver will probably be gone too, and if Tre doesn't rebound this year he will likely be gone too. Diggs will be 32 by then, and several guys on our OL will likely be gone. And that is before you look at all the other turnover with short term contract guys. This is the same reason why I hate Dorsey is back. Dorsey may one day be a good OC, but he was not last year and is learning on the job. I hate we are gambling our SB window and Josh to Diggs prime years on an OC who has to learn on the job. So I too would rather bring someone in to at the very least push Brown, if not outright start over him as an upgrade. Makes me nervous gambling on him turning into a much better player than he was last year.

So now we are resorting to just making things up that were not said? Come on dude...I get everyone wants to get Hopkins, myself included, but this is why so much fake info floats around the internet. Could the Bills be interested? Yes. Does this clip PROVE they are interested? Absolutely not. It is just his opinion on best fit, that is verbatim what he said. If he had any info the Bills were looking into Hopkins, he would absolutely state that. His job is literally to speculate on where he would go and to report all the teams interested in said player. Reporting teams interested would not make him look like an idiot lol, it is what they do every day. -

I actually watched a lot of the Cardinals games last year...so yeah, I will trust watching the guy play vs you googling stuff you didn't watch. He is still a top 5 route runner in the league and was constantly open. No one who actually watched him play last year would ever say he was "rarely" open, regardless of your context. -

Alphadawg7 replied to NeverOutNick's topic in The Stadium Wall
No, that is not at all what the clip is about. Have you even watched the clip? He does not say we are the most likely to get him...that is not remotely what this clip is about. He said its who HE thinks is the best FIT for Hopkins because he assumes Hopkins wants to play for a contender. He picked Bills as the best place for him to go, NOT the most likely place he is going to go. There is literally ZERO information in here suggesting we are the most likely to get him...there is ZERO information in this clip suggesting we are even interested in him. You can't look at a clip/article title and form a conclusion, you have to open it and take in the info too. -
If you listen to Beane's off season pressers, he really talks up Brown and his expectation for a bounce back season as he gets further away from his surgery issues. Beane stated he feels that the back surgery and stuff impacted Brown a lot this season. I have a feeling they feel better about Brown at RT than most do, and because of that, I am not expecting them to address RT early in the draft unless someone they covet falls in their lap. I think the more plausible scenario is they won't take a RT in the draft earlier than day 3. Not saying that is my choice, just listening to Beane talk about Brown leads to me think they are comfortable enough with Brown at RT right now that they don't feel pressure to find an immediate upgrade right now. But like you said Gunner, this is a make or break year for Brown.
-
Beane was talking up Brown in his pressers, so I am not sold they feel like they need to replace him early in the draft. Im not saying that is my choice, but I think there is more optimism of a bounce back season after dealing with injuries amongst the staff. So if I had to guess, I am not expecting them drafting a guy early at RT to potentially start, I think if they take a RT it will be later in the draft as a depth developmental guy.

What is the over/under on the percentage of posters that are going to think this guys personal opinion on the best place for Hopkins to play is somehow a rumor showing the Bills are trying to get Hopkins here? I'm gonna say 72% And I will take the over. Don't get me wrong, I would love to land Hopkins...but this is a dude talking on TV about where he thinks is the best fit for TV. It has nothing to do on whether or not the Bills are actually working on this. -

Why do you always just make things up? He's rarely "open"??? Might as well tell me you did not watch him play without actually saying you did not watch him play. He gets open all the time with ease and he is a top 7 WR without question right now. He played with Murray for 5 games and 2nd and 3rd stringers for 4 games...and yet if you project those 9 games over the full season he would have had 120 rec for almost 1400 yards...again, playing half his time with scrub QB's with little else around him on a bad team. -
Take him IMHO. I am always about taking the talent. We have an undersized RB in Cook and Harris on a 1 year deal who has had some injury issues. I would rather take the better player than reach somewhere else or trade back and take a lesser player. Bijan is a top 10 talent, getting him at 27 would be insane value too. BUT...he isn't going to be on the board at 27, not since he answered all the speed questions at the combine.

WR Allen Robinson available, Rams willing to eat salary
Alphadawg7 replied to Buffalo_Stampede's topic in The Stadium Wall
Exaclty. Stevie was not nearly as good as fan lore about him is. They cite his 1000 yard seasons, but they were barely 1000 yard seasons, like right at 1000 yards, which is not that great of an accomplishment, especially in a Chan Gailey offense who threw the ball constantly despite having good RB's. But, the absolute most important thing is that a huge portion of Stevie's season totals came at times in games that were blow out losses in garbage time. I posted plenty of stuff on this during that time where he would be a ghost through the first 3 quarters of a game where he would have little production, then in the final half the 4th quarter with the Bills down 3+ scores, he would get a single garbage time drive with like 4 catches for 55 yards and TD that make his game total look solid and pad his season stats. He might be the most over rated player in Bills history. He was the only WR on a bad team who played in a high volume passing offense. That is the only reason he even got to 1000 yards, and again, it was literally right at 1000 yards, not like he was having 1200+ yard seasons. There is a reason his career completely fell off the cliff as soon as he was out of Buffalo and with better QB's too. -
To be fair to the Bills, there were a lot of reasons, including being a high volume passing team playing in difficult snowy conditions didn't help. Dorsey getting completely out classed didn't help. Our inability to establish a move the chains running game contributed to that. Not to mention all the mental toll the team and organization went through over the course of the season. In 2023, Cincy scored just 20 points with all its weapons against the Chiefs to lose the AFCCG In 2022 the Chiefs scored just 3 points in the 2nd half against Cincy to lose the AFCCG. In 2021, the Chiefs scored 9 points in the Super Bowl in perfect conditions to lose that game. In 2019 the Rams and their #2 offense in the league were held to 3 points in their Super Bowl loss. Even the two greatest offensive seasons in history lost in the SB with low scoring efforts. In 2014, the Broncos broke the NFL scoring record and then was held to 8 points in the Super Bowl. In 2008 the Patriots broke the NFL scoring record and then was held to 14 points in the Super Bowl. So that happens to every team regardless of potency of the offense and it happens every year. Can't disregard a team as an offensive powerhouse over one game. Now I don't disagree we need to improve things like the OL and WR room, or even that Dorsey needs to step up and improve himself. But the point remains, it is not critical to have two #1 WR's on a team for the offense to be elite or win a SB.
