  1. Yeah totally agree with all of this. And I remember you and I were totally aligned on this all offseason expecting a step back. And I agree Holland is likely gone and I would also love to see him land in Buffalo. Personally, I am not so sure this regime is back this next year if they had not given McDaniels an extension before the season began. And I can't see how they can turn things around next year as they seem poised to potentially lose more guys and like you said, so much invested in older guns for hire that are not going to sustain the level of play they were paid and brought in for.
  2. My bad...I thought they dropped to the final seed with our win. Thanks for pointing that out, didn't see @Einstein's Dog post above. Doesn't change anything else I said for me though, it all still stands the same. But will edit to reflect the correction
  3. You realize that if they did that the punter would just change the angle of the punt to get even more yards just giving us bad field position no matter where they are punting from on the field. Gotta have someone at the very least fair catch, if not return it.
  4. As what...the 7th seed again, and to do that they needed to win 2 more games. But let's say they did win 2 more games and limp in with Tua, they were still 1-4 this year with Tua against teams with winning records. So what then when they get in the playoffs and have to go to Buffalo round 1 who has owned them regardless of where the game has been played all of Allens career? 2022 - 7th seed 2023 - 6th seed 2024 - 7th seed (missed, but lets say they made the playoffs like you suggested if Tua plays a handful more games) They have limped in as the 7th seed after losing 5 straight with Tua, blown a 3 game divisional lead with 7 games to go to a team who had to fire their OC in week 10 to limp in as the 6th seed, and then maybe limping in again as the 7th seed this year if Tua plays a couple more games. And why, because they struggle to win games against teams with winning records. How many GM's and HC's keep their job after spending as much money as they have and whose best hope is to be the 6th or 7th seed every year and win 0 playoff games? The expectations for the Dolphins is not to be a borderline playoff team that has no real shot of advancing. That is not why they paid Tua, Hill, Waddle and made big trades like getting Hill and Ramsey. This was a team that has pushed their chips in chasing a divisional title and SB push and haven'teven won a playoff game. And they already had repercussions of their moves and spending last year when it cost them players and had to start resetting the cap. Now this year Hill wants out already which would leave Tua with just Waddle at WR who in 15 games managed to only put 744 yards with Hill on the field drawing the defense. I will be stunned if this staff and FO last past next offseason.
  5. But I never said winning in the trenches was more important than a great QB, said nothing of the sort. I said you need to also be able to win in the trenches...never said in lieu of finding your QB. My comments were about how Miami built their team...which includes paying big money to a QB with injury issues, a sub par arm, and struggles when the protection breaks down. You want to mask some of that, you better build up his protection. Yes Josh is a "contender" every year...but he has 0 SB appearances. Meanwhile, Brock Purdy in his 2nd year reached and nearly won a SB because they win in the trenches and don't need a QB to be superman. You want to wait around for a once in generation talent like Allen to try and win a SB, well you wont be a GM very long given those are rare players. And even when you find one, it still isn't enough. Just ask Allen himself...or Lamar...or Brees and Rodgers who each only reached one despite being indisputable top 10 all time QB's by most peoples rankings. Or ask Marino, Kelly, etc who never won one if it's all about the QB. No one is ever going to dispute having a great QB is important, or even the most important thing, especially me. But if that was all it took then there wouldn't be so many great QBs now and throughout history that have 0 rings or just 1. You need to build a competent team around those QB's, and you would be hard pressed to find a better place to do that than the trenches.
  6. I don't disagree with you about a lot of what you said here except really the part about the trenches thing goes too far. Keep in mind, it doesn't mean you must have the #1 OL and #1 DL in football. Just means you better be capable to win up front when you need to. I agree with you about Tua and his limitations, in fact, agree with all of it. I do think Purdy is a better QB than Tua having watched all of Purdy's games (given my wife is a die hard Niners fan), but like Tua he also has limitations. I just think he has better vision and pocket presence than Tua which for me makes me believe Purdy has a better chance at a SB ring in his career than Tua will. I also don't disagree with you about Allen if he and Tua switched places, but that is the value of an elite QB. But lets be real...part of that is because the Jets and Pats still stink this year, and the Bills wouldn't have Allen so they would also not be any good, so of course Allen in Miami is a runaway divisional title. And you can say the same thing about the Jets...Allen on the Jets and they would have won the division too. Allen is one of one...a generational talent like the NFL has never seen who isn't even 30 yet and already set many QB records in both regular and postseason. Its unrealistic to for a team to go find an Allen who can make up for a teams deficiencies and elevate a team the way he can. So it's not really a fair comparison IMHO, especially in an effort to rebuke the value of winning in the trenches. As far as the trenches goes...Josh Allen just played behind the best offensive line he has ever had, and that helped contribute to his most efficient season of his career and quite possibly his first MVP despite an offensive skill group around him you don't think is very strong. Now look at Mahomes...3 straight seasons of issues at WR but they are back to back reigning SB champs, this years #1 seed in chase of a 3rd straight title. Now his OL had issues in spots of the line this year, and Mahomes had a down season for his standards as part of that. But they kept winning because they were still tough in the short areas of the field and could win in the trenches, were able to run the ball in key moments of the games, and the DL was stellar again. There is obviously no single "must do" way to win...but I can assure you that winning in the trenches is, and always has been, a component of many winning formulas and as close to a "must" as it gets in football. And you would be hard pressed to find a HC, if any, that would say otherwise too.
  7. The devastation across the whole region is unbelievable. Pacific Palisades are like 90% or more gone. Fires are all over the southland, more areas facing mandatory evacuations as new fires pop up. Its unreal...I will be stunned if they still play in LA, they should be using Sofi as an evacuation center for those in need.
  8. No disrespect, but they have never passed into being more than a pretender. If not for the playoff expansion in 2020, they would have zero playoff appearances. And you don't spend the kind of money they spent to be a team who has just 4 wins against teams with a winning record in 3 seasons. You don't spend that kind of money and then allow mediocrity at best to be the standard. All they built is a track team that can pad stats against weak opponents but get out played physically against good teams. You want to win in the NFL in the postseason or against tougher opposition, well you better be able to win in the trenches too, not just in a straight line race. And quite frankly, building a track team around a QB who struggles past his first read and holding the ball longer who has underwhelming arm strength isn't the best idea in the first place. There is a reason Jonnu was a lot more important and better than over paid Waddle was this season, and even arguably better than the season Hill had. Personally, I think its only going to get worse for them next year and they will miss the playoffs again.
  9. I agree to where I would not want that job either. And yeah, I can see how Rex would gravitate to it given he previously had success there and his name isn't excatly hot in HC searches to say the least. At the same time though, if he is going to get back in being a HC, the fit there isn't crazy given the strength of the team should be the defense. And he wouldn't be intimidated by the lack of clarity at QB given he took over Jets and Bills with weak QB situations in his prior stops as a HC. But if he does get the job, I do hope Rodgers comes back one more season because I do not think him and Rex will mesh well lol. None the less, Rex being back with the Jets with or without Rodgers coming back would be funny to watch Apparently the Bears have looked into McCarthy's availability. If the Bears make some trade to get McCarthy it will be hilarious
  10. I dont know who needs to hear this...but in a meaningless game you still need to play about 40 players of your roster as no one plays whole games. So this notion we can sit everyone and put every key player in a protective bubble is unrealistic. Come on Simon...logic and reason have no place in a TSW outrage thread 😂
  11. They were 6-5 with Tua and 1-4 against .500 or better teams with Tua in those 11 games. I don't know they would have been in and they sure as heck would not have been relevant had they been limped in for the 3rd year in a row as the 7th seed again. If not for the expansion from 12 to 14 playoff teams in 2020, the Dolphins would have 0 playoff appearances in the 3 years since Hill got there as they have 2, both as the 7th seed.
  12. This. I am not sure why so many people want to project this play as if this happened most of the time. Allen has been excellent this year, but it's been made possible because of a couple of key factors too... First and foremost, the coaches got everyone top to bottom to 100% buy in to what they were doing this year, and that INCLUDES Josh Allen. The skill players bought into the everybody eats formula, and Josh bought into taking what is there more than ever in his career. This was the biggest and most important factor to not only Allens increase in efficiency, but to the team's overall success. Second, guys just did their jobs, no matter what the assignment, the 10 guys around Allen were either making plays or impacting plays on a more consistent basis than we have ever seen before in the Allen era. To be clear, this video clip is absolutely a good one to highlight just how good Allen is and why he is in the MVP. But it is NOT a good video to make judgements on what the cast around him did for Allen and this team this season. Its one play, guys were running wide open on plenty of other plays, even ones where Allen made mistakes, didn't see them, or flat out missed them. So use this play to showcase just how special Allen is in how he can make something positive, even big, on even plays where everything broke down...but to fly this as some kind of flag about how everyone sucks around him is wrong because that is just not the reality of what these guys and these coaches did week in and week out to help this team and Allen exceed most peoples projections and expectations this season. Make no mistake about it...WR will continue to be addressed this season, it ALWAYS was going to be. Some people seem to think the plan was just add Keon and Beane was done. Never at any moment in time was Keon the final piece to the room, he was part of the beginning of rebuilding Allens weapons in a season we got rid of everyone but Shakir and took on $31M in dead cap hit in the WR room alone.
  13. IMHO, there is almost no chance they last past this next season. I told everyone this preseason Miami was NOT going to make the playoffs this year as their roster was so poorly constructed and headed in the wrong direction. At their strongest points from a roster stand point over the past 3 years, they still couldn't win against teams with winning records and still limped into the postseason as the 7th seed. This team choked away the season in 2022 to barely make the playoffs as the 7th seed losing 5 of their last 6 (all 5 losses with Tua at QB)...then blew a big divisional lead in 2023 to again barely make the playoffs as the 7th seed (again with Tua , and him and Hill being in MVP conversations during the season), and then went 6-5 with Tua in 2024 and going 1-4 with Tua in games against teams with a winning record. This team is not much different than what the Chargers with Herbert before Harbaugh got there. They don't know how to win. Sure, with all the speed they have they can exploit bad teams and put up some stats. But against good teams it was a different story only winning just 4 games in 3 seasons against teams with a winning record. Their team is just another cautionary tale to stop being distracted by flashy things. There are fundamentals to football that cannot be ignored, and none more important than you need to win in the trenches. The NFL is not an olympic relay race, it's a hard nosed and physical game and you better be able to do more than just run fast with some of your players.
  14. We just moved out of the area down there Thanksgiving weekend, but its heartbreaking to see whats happening. I have friends I have seen evacuating who are posting video and pics of the flames out their windows as they drive off. Lots of historic businesses, homes, etc all have been devastated already and the fires are still raging. What is crazy is about 2 days before the fires, I got a news article on my phone talking about how heavy winds could have a devastating affect on Los Angeles this year with fires. Then 2 days later these begin and the winds are wreaking havoc with the fires. We feel very blessed to have moved away already given we have a toddler and new born and the air quality there is horrific right now. Ash is just reigning all over the region from what friends have been telling me too. Hope anyone here or any of your friends and loved ones in the area are safe and remain safe!
  15. Um...no disrespect, but this post is wrong. Evans went BEFORE our original pick. We could have taken Evans instead of Watkins, but that still would have required a trade up. And most importantly...why would anyone want this? Everything had to happen the way it did for us to get Josh Allen, and nothing against Evans, but Allen is a 100 times important to this franchise than Evans ever would have been.
  16. I mean I can't really fault any of these choices/predictions as they all make sense. There are other candidates though, including some OG retreads I think that will be in play as well such as Rex, Gruden, and Carrol. No guarantees any of them get hired, but I think at least one of them will and I think its Gruden. Pats - Mike Vrabel - Agree with everything you said on Vrabel, I think he will be the guy in NE. Jets - Rex Ryan - I am going to go with one of the wildcards here and go Rex. Its such a Jetsy thing to do and honestly this is more me wanting to will it into fruition more than anything. Bears - Jon Gruden - I have been told he has already been discussed in-house and is legitimately in consideration there, and I do know for a fact that Gruden wants that job. I am not 100% sure he will be back as a HC this year given he has his lawsuit still ongoing with the NFL, but I am certain if not this year than next. But I do know there is legit interest in him from more than one team and I know Gruden for sure wants back in, and it wouldn't surprise me at all to see him land in Chicago and also drop/settle his suit. Saints - Aaron Glenn - I think you had this right when you said if he doesn't go to the Jets he probably lands here. For what its worth, a friend of mine works in the marketing department for the Saints...and while she has no real insider knowledge, she did say she has heard Glenn's name a lot when I reached out to see what she was hearing about Joe Brady. Jags - Pete Carrol - I agree about their focus being on salvaging Trevor and that contract...I can see Coen or any of the hot OC's being real strong candidates there, but I also think they may go at it different and go get a proven winning HC and make a big push to try and get someone like Pete Carrol. There are some pieces in place there that I think will make this opening appealing for Carrol too. Raiders - Brian Flores - I did not really have anyone in mind here for the Raiders as Vrabel would be an obvious choice, but I have felt like he was going to end up in NE after Mayo got fired. But I have always felt Flores was a good HC who got a raw deal and deserves another shot. So after you posted him and your reasons, it was hard to find any fault in it, so this is more of me agreeing with you than anything. Personally, I don't think Brady is going to leave this year. If the Bills don't win the SB, especially if we lose in first 2 rounds again, everyone in the world knows that McD's seat has to be warm, if not hot. I think Brady sticks it out another year here to wait for a more attractive opening with maybe a back of the mind thought that more attractive opening could potentially be here with Josh Allen if the Bills don't get to the big dance this playoffs or next.
  17. No disrespect...but the amount of money a person makes at work should not ever dictate how they handle life outside of work. Doesn't matter if he got paid $20 an hour or $20M a year to do his job...it's irrelevant in how he should handle personal and family emergencies, tragedy, etc. The size of your pay check does not change your priorities or responsibilities at home.
  18. While there is some truth to this, I hope you do realize that is very personal and different for every individual on Earth. People deal with loss, tragedy, sickness, injuries, etc all very differently. You can't say well Brett did it (or Josh when his Grandma passed) and so everyone else should act accordingly as well. People lose site that these are human beings with their own individual human emotions and nuances...these aren't video game characters sent here as slaves to the fans to abandon all humanity in their lives for the sake of the fans desire to see other human beings compete in a game. Coop is obviously back, so whatever was going on with him was weighed by him on whether or not he should play and he has made the personal decision to play. But that decision should have no bearing on the next players situation when it inevitably arises for some player on some team in any sport played in the world.
  19. First things first: When Beane drafted Coleman, he wasn't then, nor ever going to be, the "final piece" to the WR room. I feel like some had that expectation or have this mentality that he has to be that to justify his selection...and that just isn't the case. He has WR1 potential, but at the same time we are building an offense that doesn't need that dominant WR1 150 target WR either. Second, if you remove this high bar expectation and see him more for how he can fit together within a group here, there is a substantially higher potential for him here. He brings things to the table that quite frankly were not only missing, but Josh had yet to have here. His size, athleticism, body control, blocking, etc all can have a tremendous amount of value to both this team and Josh as he continues to grow as a player. And that very well can turn him into a very good WR1. And to do that, you surround him with guys that help attack in ways that are not his strong suit. I liked the Coleman pick and I still like it now. I think he has the right work ethic, approach, and mentality to reach his potential in Buffalo. Like many rookies, he had some ups and downs this year, but that is common and to be expected. Missing time due to injury didn't help either. I think he fits in well here and Beane will look to keep putting guys around him that allow the offense to be dynamic and to keep leaning on individuals strong suits.
  20. Nah, McDaniels and the Fins lose when Tua starts too. In 3 seasons, they have only beaten a team with a winning record a total of 4 times. 2022 they lost 5 in a row in their last 6 games with Tua making the final game a win and in, lose and go home game for the Fins. And ironically, Tua didn't play the final game and a 3rd string rookie started and snapped the 5 game losing streak to help Miami limp into the playoffs as the 7th seed.d 2023 they blew a huge divisional lead against by losing 3 of their final 5 games, again with Tua, going from divisional winners and potential 1 or 2 seed earlier in the season to barely making the playoffs again as the 7th seed (again). 2024 They went 6-5 with Tua as the starter and were 1-4 against teams with a winning record (only beating the Rams) in the games Tua played.
  21. At this point, it would not at all surprise me if Lamar won it. But I still come back to the fact that because this is the first year in 5 years I did not put a preseason bet on Allen winning MVP (was going to, just was getting ready for 2nd baby and prepping for a move and totally forgot)...so this will now be the year that he wins it. So when he does, you know who to thank haha
  22. While this would be amazing...I think you are being too hopeful here. Shakir has earned a ton of respect around the league. When other coaches, GM's, players, analysts talk about him, they gush about him...not to mention our own teams extremely high opinion of him. Now add in the bigger caps now, and this feels a bit unrealistic IMHO. I do however think its a mutual fit and want here between Shakir and the Bills, so I do believe he will sign for less than he would get on the open market if he waits another year for FA. I think the mid teens is much more probable (like $15-$17M per). But like @NewEra stated, I hope you are right because he would be a steal at $12M per.
  23. Shhhhh...you are going to stir up the "We must mortgage everything for WR's" crowd... Totally agree with you and its what I have been saying repeatedly for a while and its also historically true as well for Super Bowl winning teams. Does that mean you shouldn't have good WR's and roll with scrubs? Of course not, but scheme, fit, execution, and consistency matter a lot more than over investing into the WR position from a cap perspective. In terms of importance...if you want to win in the post season consistently...you better win in the trenches. That being said, without question WR should and will be a priority this offseason. We either will resign Cooper (I hope this only happens on a cost friendly deal, hes not worth higher WR1 money) or they will address it via trade, FA, or draft. Beane by no means was ever "done" at WR last offseason, we had $31M in dead cap at the WR position and not a lot of cap maneuverability in a mini cap reset year. Beane even stated it was Coopers price tag that made him gettable mid season. So I fully expect an investment into the WR position either from bringing some guys back or adding to the group in other ways. I have not had time to look at the FA market ahead of next season, so not sure what kind of player he can find there (outside of Cooper), but there are some potential trade targets and of course the draft too if we don't bring Cooper back.
  24. Well that may be a one off after the disaster that became lol...
  25. What excuses are the Dorsey defenders going to make this time? Still can’t believe some people over the offseason were trying to claim Dorsey firing was a mistake (even calling his firing just a scapegoat by McD) and the offense was better with Dorsey than Brady 😂
