TRADE: Arizona ships Simmons to Giants for a 7th
Alphadawg7 replied to BuffaloBillyG's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yeah, there are some age concerns obvious at Safety and of course Von. Tre is still needing to prove he is back as well. But I will say these positives in regards to these concerns. We are deep at Safety, DE, and CB. More importantly all reports on Tre have been pretty great and that he looks ready and back to form, of course we still need to see it when the real games get played, but reportedly hes had a great camp and there is reason for optimism there. Von is the biggest question mark, but I feel a lot better about that thanks to the addition of Floyd bolstering the pass rush if Von isn't ready right away or doesn't get all the way back to form. Floyd and Groot are guys I have confidence in bringing pressure still. So while these concerns are valid, I think our depth and reports on Tre so far ease those concerns for the time being, at least until we see this unit full bore on the field. I, like most, am greatly more concerned about the MIKE and if anyone can step up there. If it is an issue during the season, I hope they don't wait too long on trying Milano out at MLB and Dorian at OLB as so far Dorian has played like he is the 2nd best LB on the roster right now, so they may to get him on the field and move Milano over if MLB is a trainwreck as move along in the season. -
Legit question…How is worst case scenario him being a solid backup? That’s the best case scenario. The team that invested 3 first round picks in him didn’t think he was a solid backup and chose journeyman Sam Darnold over him as the backup. He has not shown anything yet to suggest he can even be a solid backup. So worst case is that we waste a 4th round pick on him and he is worse than what we have and he is cut. Best case is he is a solid backup behind Allen, something he’s get to prove and just failed to achieve with the team that drafted him and invested a ton of draft capital in him.
-
Absolutely not for a 4th. He lost his job to Mr. Irrelevant and then got beat out by a QB who sees ghosts and flopped as a starter since he’s been in the league and is now on his 3rd team in the last 3 or 4 years. So no way am I giving up a 4th for a guy who couldn’t even win a backup job with the team that drafted him. If he was cut, sure bring him in to compete. But we need our picks with our cap limitations moving forward, not risking a decent pick on a QB who’s yet to show any potential and couldn’t beat out Sam Darnold as a backup.

Josh Allen and starters will play against the Bears
Alphadawg7 replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall
A lot of teams starters are playing this week, don’t see the need to over analyze this and read into it doom and gloom reasoning -
Josh Allen is the best weapon in the NFL and he’s not protected.

Again, you avoid the question of what specifically should Beane have done this off-season given he spent the most resources on the OL including drafting what might be a future star player in O’Cyrus. You can’t just say trade for a star player. One has to be available. We have to have something they want. We have to afford them. So who were they supposed to trade for that was available, we wanted, could afford, and had what that team wanted back in trade? If you can’t name those players, then your trade for a star player option doesn’t exist. And as far as Dion goes, you do realize he made his first pro bowl last year right? This was despite how bad Saffold was next to him and the struggles of the rest of the OL. So you’re being dramatic about Dion without any context to how he actually played last year which was not a lot different than his career rankings. Biggest question mark is Brown, but staff also has confidence in him still after the injury issues last year are hopefully behind him. They gave up too soon in Teller, so no surprise they are going to give Brown a chance to lock the spot down now that he is healthy. -

Alphadawg7 replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall
Fair option, but he wasn’t graded as the 88th player or he would have gone earlier than 111. Clearly teams scouting had a lower grade than internet graders did. And no sacks in preseason doesn’t mean a ton as lots of guys look good in preseason against vanilla schemes and backups and guys who won’t make rosters. So he may end up being very good, just saying it’s a bit early to play the hindsight game based on just preseason performance. But, playing the hindsight game in terms of our needs and just being a rookie prospect on the OL is fair game. So thanks, this was certainly a viable option, especially if Dorian remains a backup to MIlano. We are very thin at LB though with only MIlano a proven commodity who’s has some injuries himself. So it’s not like LB wasn’t a need, so it still makes sense if they had a higher grade in Dorian to take him. We will see if it was a wide or poor decision of course. So far, I think both look promising. For the record, I’m not a Brown fan and wanted a new RT myself and would have been good taking Dewand too, even though I didn’t think they would go after a RT based on the confidence they expressed in Brown before FA and Draft. -

We have cap issues, low end FAs is a reality of that. Your answer about taking Dewand Jones was a fair point and legit option, making a splash in FA with all the other holes on this team was not realistic. -

Alphadawg7 replied to Alphadawg7's topic in The Stadium Wall
Well considering he’s looked like the 2nd best LB on the team so far, they are going to need to consider moving Milano over to MLB and Dorian to WLB sooner rather than later if one of our other guys can’t secure the MIKE sufficiently enough. Hopefully Bernard comes back and shows better than Dodson has so far , but until he or someone else steps up better at the MIKE, I don’t think our defense is better with Dorian on the bench behind MIlano. -

Its because they have multiple times referred to him potentially playing MLB for us. They specifically stated they are starting him off behind Milano so he wouldn't have to learn 2 positions as a rookie. I don't know why you keep ignoring the fact they have directly referenced him potentially being a MIKE for us, which they have done multiple times including after the draft and heading into camp. -

If Beane didnt think OL was a problem then why did he make more moves at OL than any other position, including drafting one of the top OL prospects in the draft? I mean this question doesn't even make sense. -

Alphadawg7 replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall
Come on man, talk about being unreasonable and whiney just to be whiney. What did you think was gonna happen? Did you expect Beane to trade for 5 picks in the first 2 rounds to rebuild every OL spot in one offseason? We signed guys in FA and then drafted one of the best OL prospects in the draft who has looked the part so far as well. These threads are dumb. If you’re going to start one then at the very least post what SPECIFICALLY Beane could have done different this offseason. I mean he made the most moves on OL than any other position on the team this year. -
Colts grant Jonathan Taylor’s request to seek trade
Alphadawg7 replied to Big Blitz's topic in The Stadium Wall
Well to be fair, Cook's season last year was on par with his past 4 seasons, so statistically there isn't any significant sign of that. In fact, of the 2 RB's its Taylor coming off a down year and a late season injury. Again, not saying Cook is better than Taylor, just saying that the difference isn't significant enough to where the Dolphins would pass up paying Cook peanuts to now give up a first round pick and a lot more money to Taylor. With Miami's cap situation coming up, it just doesn't seem to make a lot of sense to invest that much into a RB, especially when they still have a good RB group there as it is. They didn't bite on Cook who was trying to go there and who fits their offense better, so just saying I am skeptical they are going to be players for Taylor at what he is likely going to cost in trade and contract. -
New QB and new OL take time to find rhythm usually. Granted this QB is an all time great, but signs of OL issues have already been surfacing in practice and scrimmages with Rodgers already showing some reserved frustration. There is no denying their offense is better with Rodgers, I just think it’s possible it could take a few games before they start clicking more. But yeah, there are certainly obstacles for the Bills too. The game could go either way, they are both talented teams. But this is also a statement game for the Bills too. They need to show they are still a force in the AFC after the let down vs the Bengals and show the division still goes through Buffalo.

Jets OL deficiencies keep their offense from getting rolling week 1 but good D play keeps Jets in it until a late Bills score to go ahead 27-17 and put the game away.

Dorian and my pet peeve with the staff on rookies
Alphadawg7 replied to Alphadawg7's topic in The Stadium Wall
Ha for some reason I thought someone else originally asked me that lol. But yeah, that’s what you asked and what I answered. But like i said, if you rephrase the question to will these guys be starters in 3 years then yeah, the list does get shorter on who I think could still be starters 3 years from now. -

Alphadawg7 replied to Alphadawg7's topic in The Stadium Wall
He only asked if they will be in the league in 3 years, not if they are starting caliber players. That was the only question I was answering, so I think you are misinterpreting what question I am answering. They are specifically to whether those players will remain on a 53 man roster 3 years from now. Nothing more than that. If you want to know who I think has a chance at relevant playing time or starting still in 3 years, then that is a different answer and the list gets much shorter. I legit laughed on this one...you win the internet today -
Hard to say though as we were "linked" to some guys that signed elsewhere. Now you can't put a lot of stock into all the players we get linked to, most are BS, but just saying that we don't actually know if Beane tried to sign someone or not. It is possible he looked to bring someone in during FA and it just didn't work out. Either way, I expect a MLB and RT to be high on our offseason priorities next season.

I honestly get excited every time I see I have a notification that you replied to something I said or mentioned me. I sincerely find it amusing that I get to live so rent free in your head that I am the first thing you think about in each of these topics. I did mean it when I said I think you need a ghost writer though...most of these are pretty weak, so I am hoping you start to better on these desperate troll jobs so they are at least more entertaining Hope you keep these coming, its been a bit since I had stalker like this, brings back nostalgia of the good ole days around here and makes this board more interesting for me again -

Maybe you don't remember their rookie years with none of those guys got a lot of run on the field. -

Do I think they will be in the league in 3 years...good question: Elam - Yes - He was a first round pick and played well down the stretch including a couple INT's, so yes I think he will be Shakir - Probably - This is just a gut feeling on him, I think he made some key plays last year showing promise including a big one in the Dolphins playoff game. But had we gotten him more reps last year we might have a better idea heading into this season. His drops in camp are a concern, so no lock either to be. AJE - Yes, he is coming off a 6.5 sack season while playing in a rotation for a DC whose defenses are not known for sacks. Boogie - Yes, I think he has shown enough that I believe he can stick in the NFL another 3 years. I think he even has some trade value and would get more playing time on another team where he wasn't so buried on the depth chart. Bernard - Maybe - Still needs to show he can play in the NFL, especially being undersized. I wont say for sure he wont be in the NFL in 3 years, but of all the gusy he has the biggest question marks. Wont write him off yet, I mean he is still competing to start here, but he has the most question marks of this group. Dorian - Yes, I actually think he is a promising LB and can play at this level and will still be in the league in 3 years. -

I don't disagree that they never committed to him moving to the middle, but they did say it was an option for him when they drafted him. My main point is that the options right now are an issue at the MIKE and its an important position in McD's defense. So I am hoping that they start looking at ways to get Dorian on the field because he could be the 2nd best LB on the team right now given Dodson, Bernard, etc have yet to step up and take the MLB spot. I suggested in another thread that maybe they decision to leave Dorian at WLB is because they feel they can move Milano to MLB and Dorian to WLB in a dooms day scenario if MLB spot is still a big issue as the season rolls on. And if that is the case, then I get it, and actually think that makes a lot of sense. Although they have rejected the idea of Milano moving there in the past, but doesn't mean they cant change their mind if necessary or realize they have that as a fall back option when needed. -

The list is a bit longer than that in recent years. Earlier years when the roster was bad, sure, rookies had a quicker path to the starting lineup. But the last few years guys like Cook, Elam, Shakir, AJE, Boogie, and now Dorian have had slow paths to the field despite having the need for help at their respective positions. -

Alphadawg7 replied to Big Blitz's topic in The Stadium Wall
This. Dolphins weren't willing to pay Cook enough to come there, I seriously doubt they are looking to spend more on Taylor with their upcoming cap. Not to mention having to send Indy valuable draft capital they will need with their cap ballooning soon to help keep the roster up. -

Alphadawg7 replied to Big Blitz's topic in The Stadium Wall
I respectfully disagree there is some huge gap between these two RB's...Taylor had one great year behind one of the best OL's in football as the main focal point of the offense. The other 2 seasons Taylors production isnt any better than Cooks and Cook didn't have the benefit of being on a run first team behind an elite OL. So I am gonna have to say this feels like a stretch to act like there is a vast difference in the quality of these two players. Plus, you can make a case that Cook is a better fit given he comes from a pass first team where Taylor wants to be paid top dollar and the focal point of the offense. -
The best 53-man roster projection
Alphadawg7 replied to Giuseppe Tognarelli's topic in The Stadium Wall
True, and its a risk. But heading into the draft, Shorter wasn't even a lock to get drafted. So I don't think he is a lock to be gone, I mean another team would have to want him on their active 53, its not so cut and dry.
