Oh I don't disagree with you about the calls, its mind blowing they blew the Worthy non-catch, missed the Kincaid first down (but that is also partly on our own staff for not challenging but instead hurrying up trying to sneak it) and 2 plays later denying Allen the first down he clearly got. I don't think it was a "fix" per se, but the problem with the Chiefs is that they are so good that when a ref blows a call it can be monumental in the outcome of the game. The Chiefs don't make many, if any, mistakes in crunch time or close games. So when the refs do something to take a drive away from their opponent, make a bad call to extend a Chiefs drive, etc it makes over taking the Chiefs a near impossible feat without absolute perfection by their opponent. We have robots on Mars we can talk to and exchange data with...you can't tell me they can't get some tech to determine where the ball should rightfully be spotted in a timely fashion.

Wide Receiver Train Full Speed Ahead- CHOO CHOO!
Alphadawg7 replied to Pete's topic in The Stadium Wall
Maxx is my wish list player, he is younger too. While I would definitely prefer to spend less than 2 first rounders, but given our firsts are so late, I wouldn't object to sending this years and next years first for either player. My wish list offseason would be see if we can get Maxx for a first and change and then see if we can send one of our 2nds to Seahawks for DK. Not going to pretend to know how to make that work with the cap, but I would bet there is a path to make it work. We land Maxx and DK, I don't care what we do with the rest of the roster, we are SB favorites next year. Admittedly, I would think that is highly unlikely we could get both...but that is why this I called it my "wish list" lol. But if I can choose one or the other, I am going Maxx for sure. -

Yeah, and this is also why I don't want to rely on the draft solely to fix our issues because we haven't been hitting difference makers on either side of the ball with our premium picks which doesn't help to always be picking late. Lots of starters, good players even, some busts...but we lack more impact players. I would much rather see us do for our defense what Beane did for our offense when it needed that top level player to take the next step up...and that is trade for a proven impact player like he did with Diggs when the Allen needed it in his development. I expect WR, DL, S, and CB to be the focus this offseason, and I am just hoping for once we can go get that impact player on defense, something we have yet to have in the Allen era. -

This is the least that has ever been asked of him though. And many of his runs will always be runs for Allen every year. He is always going to be a guy they go to on down and short. He is always going to be a guy who will take off if he sees a big opening. Again, no one is saying we don't need a WR. The push back is to those who want to ignore defense and again (for the 4th offseason in a row) skew heavy to the offense, an offense that just finished as the 16th best in NFL history and that is with the offense taking whole quarters, even some halves off this year in blow out wins and not playing even in the last game. We for sure need to add a WR, but like the Chiefs dynasty...like the Pats dynasty...it doesn't need to be some all in move for an elite player while we just bandaid our defense again. That isn't likely change much, if anything at all. Go make the splash play on the defense to finally get one difference maker there, and then still add to our WR room with good players that fit the offense and address where we are weaker. This is a spread the ball around offense who also wants to run the ball effectively for as long as Brady is here, some top end WR impact will be capped on that fact alone. Not to mention, scoring is not our issue. -

Every team spends resources on both sides of the ball...but saying we "dumped" resources is just not accurate. We used 3 of our last 5 first round picks on weapons for Josh. We have used 4 of our last 6 picks in the first 2 rounds of the draft on offense. We had a draft a couple years ago where I think the entire draft but one pick was offense. We already spent our 3rd this year on a WR in Cooper. No disrespect, but we have been offensive heavy for 3 straight seasons before this one. -

All good, it was just you said 7 more points in your previous post Again, nobody has once said not to address WR. And this above reads like you want to go all in on WR in case someone else gets hurt when WR injuries had zero to do with our playoff loss this year, or any year for that matter. Although Defensive issues sure have been a part of our playoff losses. But that was literally our entire season this year...a season where he had the least % of plays in history with a sack or turnover, a season where he wasn't even sacked for 4 straight games, a season where we were the 16th best offense in the history of the NFL. And again, no one is saying don't add a WR, literally no one. Its clear as day that WR along with DL, S, and CB are our 4 biggest needs/priorities entering the offseason. I have even personally stated WR is definitely a need and a priority. The debate is on those people who want to over spend on one WR and then just patch work our defense again. That has already not worked for teams like the Dolphins, Bengals, etc. We already score more points than Vikings with Jefferson/Addison...Miami with Hill/Waddle...Eagles with Brown/DeVonta and Barkley...Bengals with Burrow, Chase, and Higgins. We score more points than anyone has for the past 5 seasons. But who is in the SB going for their record 3rd straight SB Win? A team with a mediocre offense that didn't score 30 even one time...UNTIL...they played the Bills in the AFCCG. Who was the last dynasty before the Chiefs? Pats who won their 6 SB's with average receiving weapons at WR for Brady or worse but they always had guys that fit their system and a run game and a defense to support the greatness of what Brady did on the field. NOTE: Mahomes and Chiefs best offensive season - Didn't reach the SB (2018 they had 3rd best offense in history). The last time Mahomes was in the SB with an elite WR (Hill) they got blown out by the Bucs when their defense shut down the Chiefs. Brady's best offensive season - Lost in the SB to Eli Manning when the Giants D shut down the then highest scoring offense in history. Interesting enough, Brady's other SB loss was when he threw for over 500 yards in the Super Bowl and still lost to Nick Foles. Yet Brady's first SB win...they beat the "Greatest show on Turf" shutting down the vaulted Rams offense and throwing to scrubs at WR. Brady's last SB win in NE...they only scored 13 points and still won by TWO scores when they shut down the again vaulted Rams offense with McVay and held them to 3 points. So when in history does going all in on WR's and neglecting defense translate into a SB win? How many times has that ever worked? Now go look at see how many times a defense made a big impact on a teams SB victory...when a defense countered an elite offense. Even look back at all the SB winner the past 20 years...not many even had an elite WR. Again...when you score over 31 a game (and that is after we took the final week off essentially too), expecting to score more isn't easily accomplished. But when your defense is in the bottom of the league on 3rd down...bottom of the league on number of first downs allowed...and so on...adding a difference maker can impact that in a big way and make a more significant impact, especially when just a single stop on 3rd/4th down on one of the Chiefs scoring drives literally changes the losses to a win in our last 3 postseason losses to them. -
What does Carolina have to do with anything? Brady just led the Bills to a historical offensive season. They are the 16th highest scoring offense in NFL history...16th highest scoring team in history. They had the least % of plays in NFL history that resulted in a sack or turnover. Josh set numerous individual records. Shakir set the record for most consecutive targets caught in history. We had the most games in NFL history with a 20+ margin of defeat. So how is anyone complaining about the hiring of Brady at this point, let alone his time in Carolina. Whats next, people going to complain about Bill Belichick's time in Cleveland now? And the Panthers suck as an organization...they couldn't get anything out of Baker or Darnold both who had great seasons and took their teams to the playoffs while Carolina continues to flutter in irrelevancy without a proven QB. Blaming any OC for stuggles in Carolina who haven't had a QB since Cam Newton fell apart is wild to me.

Why not compare the 1990 Bills while you are at it? I mean this isn't the same roster, DC, or OC of those teams...its as irrelevant of a comparison as it gets. And we NEVER had any kind of a difference maker at ANY point on our DL...never once. Not on those teams, not on this team. Meanwhile...no one in the NFL has scored more points than the Bills the past 5 seasons. No player has scored more TD's than Allen in the history of the NFL at this stage of their career. No team has one more games by 20+ points than we did this year. No QB in history had a lower percentage of plays that resulted in a sack or turnover than Allen did this season. Allen is number 1 in all kinds of playoff QB records. What has it gotten us. Nothing. Nothing at all. While you sit here and complain about the D not being good enough simultaneously arguing to NOT improve the D. -

Alphadawg7 replied to Pete's topic in The Stadium Wall
Not sure why I even have to tell you this...Allen was taking WAY more hits in the years past than he did this year...and its not close. He had the lowest % of plays with a sack, INT, or fumble in NFL history. He went 4 games without even getting sacked at one point. -
Wide Receiver Train Full Speed Ahead- CHOO CHOO!
Alphadawg7 replied to Pete's topic in The Stadium Wall
16th highest scoring offense in history...that was the Bills this year. We had the most wins in history by 20+ points. Allen set multiple individual records. Now...there are only so many drives in a game that we get...for your theory to work would mean we are not scoring at a high rate. But we do score at a high rate, more than anyone the past 5 seasons. You guys don't understand how much harder it is to increase our score by 7 points per game. That would literally ties us for the #1 offense in the history of the NFL with the 2013 Broncos...who got destroyed in the SB scoring only 8 points against a defensvie and run first team. Just like the former #1 offense Patriots got shut down in their SB to a mediocre wild card Giants team with a wicked DL. Just because we go all in on some huge WR doesn't not by any means we score "more" points. And let me tell you, its a LOT easier to add a difference maker to our defense who can just affect one more play/drive and get KC (or whoever) off the field one more time instead of allowing a scoring drive than it is to add a player to your offense that transforms your offense into the greatest offense in history. So its not the solution people think it is, nor is it as feasible as people think it is. -
Xavier Worthy: So far, not much more than a gadget guy
Alphadawg7 replied to Logic's topic in The Stadium Wall
The defense doesn't stink...its a play or two away from being the difference in the games. We need an impact player that all they need to do is help affect a drive or two and the game goes from a close game to multi score leads. We just fielded the 16th highest scoring offense of all time...16th all time. It can't get much better than that...and even when it does, it has not resulted in SB wins for anyone in the top 10 outside the 5th ranked team (2011 Packers) and all the way back in 1983 with the Redskins. Thats it. But lets keep doing the same crap over and over again...we arent outscoring them with a hitorical great offense...so maybe just maybe we should try and let them score less. Not to mention, its the ONLY thing that has gotten Mahomes out of the playoffs in 7 years. -
Wide Receiver Train Full Speed Ahead- CHOO CHOO!
Alphadawg7 replied to Pete's topic in The Stadium Wall
We just fielded the 16th highest scoring offense in NFL history this year...16 all time. The top 2 teams lost in the SB to defensive teams with meidocre offenses, both getting shut down, and one of the #1 offense getting blown out by over 30 points. The next 2 (Mahomes in 2018 and Lions in 2024) didnt even reach the SB. The offense has been the priority for 3 straight seasons. We also pick late every year. Once upon a time we were picking too late to get one of the pre-draft blue chip WR prospects who were all certain to be gone before our pick and Beane instead made the trade to go get a proven stud player at WR in Diggs. I suggest we do that again...go make a splash trade (as I do not think there is any great options in FA) for a difference maker on our DL. Then go sign Holland to shore up safety. Draft a WR, or make a move via trade or FA (not sure who is available in FA) for a WR and then draft a CB at some point in the draft. This is exactly what I try and do. We do not have a difference maker on defense. We got plenty of good players who fit the system, but we need an impact player, someone who can disrupt the Mahomes, Lamars, and Burrows of the world because those guys are going no where any time soon and we need to get past them every single year. Doesn't mean we don't address WR, it means a top tier WR changes very little for this team compared an impact player who can get the opponent off the field a drive or two more a game which would have been all the difference in our playoff exits. Its the only way anyone has beaten Mahomes in the playoffs in 7 years. Like it or not...this is now for as long as Brady is our OC (or possible future HC) is a spread the ball around offense. This team will benefit more from a guy who is dialing it up every play they are out there to slow down our opponents. We don't need to become the #1 D in the NFL, a difference maker on our defense who could just make a play or two more a game would be all the difference this team needs to get over the hump. A lot of people have this idea that some elite WR means we "score more points"...there are only so many offensive drives we get per game and we already score more points than anyone having scored the most points in the NFL over the past 5 seasons. Its not like we are not scoring most drives, we score A LOT. Bengals with Burrow, Chase, and Higgins score less than us. Miami with Hill and Waddle score less than us. Philly with Brown and DeVonta score less than us. SF with Aiyuk, Deebo, and Kittle score less than us. Minnesota with Jefferson and Addison score less than us. All of these are facts...there are no use case facts for going all in at WR to get over the hump...none. The only 2 teams of the 10 highest scoring all time that won a SB were the 2011 Packers and then all the way back in 1983 with the Redskins. And this is the era of offense we are in...most offense in history...those teams aren't winning SB's. Instead teams like the Patriots and Chiefs have dynasties whose offenses aren't top heavy at WR and where defense is a substantial part of their success. -

Well then maybe tell Josh (who said this himself) not to misread the defense on 4th and 5 and shift the protection away from the Blitz when Spags did the opposite of what was expected...then tell Kincaid to not drop the hero ball Allen still manages to get away that would have been caught in FG range. You can also tell Josh a tush push a perpetual forward motion low to the ground and to quit side stepping allowing time for the D to react...you know like he did all year but for some reason ran the most bastardized version in the biggest game of the year. While you are at it...call the NFL and tell them to get technology so the refs don't steal, not one, but two first downs from the Bills on the same set of downs 2 plays apart. And while you have them on the phone, you can let them know that Worthy/Bishop catch also wasn't a catch. Then, you can send in all the footage of the facemasks and holding the Chiefs didn't get flagged on too. -

Keep investing in defense? What year do you think is? 2021? We have used 4 of our last 6 picks in the first 2 rounds on offense and we already used our 3rd this year on Cooper too. It’s like you guys have been in a cave for 3 years while they kept investing in the offense. I mean one of those drafts was entirely offense except for one pick. 3 of our last 5 first round picks were spent on offensive weapons for Josh. -

You realize that model has failed not only recently but throughout history. Didn’t work for Mahomes in 2018 when he had the 3rd best offense in history… or Manning when he had the #1 offense in history…nor Brady when he had the #2 offense in history…nor the 2024 Lions who had the #4 offense in history…nor 8 of the top 10 offenses in history. Meanwhile all those offenses were mostly eliminated in the postseason or lost the Super Bowl to teams with tough defenses and mediocre offenses. We all love scoring points…but if you can’t get some stops you put the onus on your offense to be perfect. -

We had the highest scoring offense in the AFC, set multiple offensive team and individual records, and have scored the most points in the entire NFL over the last 5 seasons. Scoring and offense isn’t the problem you think it is. -

No, the point is nobody has beaten KC through a better offense in 7 seasons since Brady was in NE in 2018. -

I didnt say I want our defense on the field for the final drive...I said if our defense could get some stops throughout the game then we would be in control of the game instead of relying on a hero ball from our QB to a TE with bad knees. And no, the reason we lost was because the refs stole a possession from us (twice within 2 plays) when we had the lead and were already approaching FG range up 1 with a chance to go up 2 scores. Then our defense responded by letting KC drive the field and get a 2 pt conversion to put us instead down 7 midway in the 4th. The 2 highest scoring offenses in NFL history got shut down in Super Bowl losses to teams with mediocre conservative offenses. The 3rd and 4th highest scoring teams in NFL history led by Mahomes in 2018 and the Lions this year didnt even make the SB. Mahomes got smashed in the SB by the Bucs defense in his only SB loss. Last team to beat him in the playoffs held him to 3 points in the 2nd half which came on the final play or regulation at end of 4th to force OT. No team in the NFL has scored more points than us the past 5 years. We have reached the AFCCG just twice and lost 3 divisional games, two at home. I mean even when Josh Allen gives us the lead late it hasn't mattered. Josh Allen gave the Bills the lead with 1:54 left in the game...Bills went on to give up 10 points in the final 1:54 of the game and another TD in OT for a total of 42 points...just to see the Bengals hold that same team to 3 points in the 2nd half the week after in the AFCCG. The only teams who have been beating Mahomes in the playoffs have done so through defense. -

Alphadawg7 replied to Logic's topic in The Stadium Wall
If our defense could get a stop and get to Mahomes we wouldn't have had to been down to the Chiefs on the final drive having to find a way to score against one of the greatest Defensive Coordinators in history. The last 2 teams to beat the Chiefs in the playoffs were leading the Chiefs in the 4th quarter. Bucs, who blew them out dominating them with their defense and the Bengals who held the Chiefs to just 3 points in the 2nd half, which came on the final play of the entire 2nd half at end of regulation as Benglas put the onus on the Chiefs to come back to extend into OT. How is it odd? People seem to think the only solution is to make our already top offense better...one that was already historic as a team and as an individual player in Josh...as a solution to the Chiefs problem. I was pointing out how that isn't the sure fire solution everyone seems to think it is given that even fielding the greatest offenses in history didn't translate to SB wins with the majority of the teams. -

I find it interesting that everyone seem to blame WR's, Worthy trade, etc for our short comings. Meanwhile: #1 offense in the AFC and 2nd in the NFL only to Detroit who the 2024 Lions were the 4th best offense in NFL history. Offense set or tied a number of NFL records such as least negative plays, most wins by 20+ points, etc. Allen set numerous individual records. The Bills have scored the most points in the NFL over the past 5 seasons. But...offense is the issue for so many of you? Meanwhile, the last team to beat the Chiefs in the playoffs were the Bengals, who only did so by holding Mahomes to 3 points in the 2nd half...a week after the Bills gave up 17 points to the Chiefs in the final 3 minutes of that game where they scored 42. Bills just this Sunday scored 29 points against a tough defense and a team that offensively had not scored 30 the whole season...yet we gave up 32 to them and lost because of it. Oh and the team before the Bengals to beat the Chiefs...Bucs in the Super Bowl where the defense dominated Mahomes and the Chiefs offense. If you need to field the greatest offense in NFL history to get to the SB, then that is a dead a** sign that there are BIGGER issues with your team. And even having one of the greatest offenses in history has done very little for other teams. Only 2 of the top 10 offenses in history even won a SB, several didn't even reach one. #1 offense - 2013 Broncos over took the 2007 Pats as the best offense in history and got blown out in the SB by the legion of boom and a run first Seattle offense. #2 offense - 2007 Pats were the then greatest offense in history and got shut down by a team with a mediocre offense but elite D-Line in the SB. #3 offense - 2018 Chiefs was Mahomes best statistical season ever and doesn't even make the SB. #4 offense - 2024 Lions didn't even make the SB. The only 2 in the top 10 all time to win a SB were the 2011 Packers (5th all time) and the 1983 Redskins (8th all time). We are, and have been, an elite offense...our achilles heal is our defense has no difference makers, no closers, no one to disrupt the greatness of the Chiefs and Mahomes. The definition of insanity is to keep doing the same things and expect different results. Meanwhile, the Chiefs with a mediocre cast around Mahomes on the offense the past 3 years are now playing for NFL history and a 3rd straight Super Bowl.
