Only if they trade him, and if they do it takes another WR needy team off the board round 1. So it’s at worst a wash for us with the possibility Bengals (who have many needs) could wait to take a WR round 2 with such a deep draft.

People get this wrong all the time…the team trading for him was probably a team that was going to draft a WR if they are making a big trade for Higgins, so no it does not change how many WRs could go before our pick unless it’s a team that drafts after us which are teams that either won’t be trading for him or Cincy would never trade him to. So it’s a wash and doesn’t impact how many WRs go ahead of us.

You realize Matt Ryan was a top 5 QB before Shannahan and after. In fact, 2 sesason after Shannahan left, Ryan put up nearly an identical season to his MVP season. The amount of over exaggeration Shannahan gets about Matt Ryan is insane. In fact, the fact that Shannahan is even considered a QB guru in the first place is a joke. The first QB he has ever developed in his career is Purdy. Kubiak found and developed Schaub who was as good after Shannahan left. He was only with Ryan 2 seasons in his prime who put up similar seasons without Shannahan...he was fired in Washington and a disaster in Cle before Atlanta. In SF Jimmy G was the same stiff he was when he left as when he got there. None of the other QB's panned out and he blew 3 first round picks on a QB he couldn't even develop into a backup to a 7th round QB.

As I said in another thread, the only team in the entire NFL that made sense for Wilson from a potential starters perspective was the Steelers. Between the defense and run game, they don't need the QB to carry the team, they just need them not to totally suck and they are a playoff team. If the QB can be solid, they could challenge to win their division. If the QB can be pretty good, they could be a threat in the AFC. But, I wasn't sold that the Steelers would be interested froma locker room fit stand point. But at a million dollars, thats the bargain of a lifetime even for a backup QB so it makes sense as they really are free rolling on this because if he sucks they have nothing vested and can bench or even cut him. And for Wilson, gives him a chance to redeem his image on a one year prove it deal and try and secure his spot in Pitt long term or somewhere else next offseason.

I would be pretty surprised if they got through this offseason without restructuring Josh, but if Beane finds a way to pull that off then wow, dude is on a whole other level of wizardry.

My answers: OTHER - Diggs drop in play has a lot of factors built into it. One, Dorsey's offense was unimaginative and predictable. And because of that, we didn't run the ball and we had an over reliance on Diggs and it stalled the offense. Once Brady took over, he wasn't able to install his own offense, but had to work more with what was here and make tweaks to try and get some sort of consistency in our ability to extend drives and score. That focus became 2 fold...an increase in the run game as we saw Cook breakout, and also on short passes as an extension of the run game. Diggs was still used down field, but not to the degree it had been. In addition, you had Josh was playing with an injury to his shoulder the whole back half of the season and Josh said he literally had to change how he delivered the ball to manage that issue and the discomfort. What we saw is Josh not as sharp downfield as he normally is, this prevented Allen and Diggs downfield connection from being as sharp as it was and we saw Diggs plenty of times torch his defender and get open and Allen just couldn't connect. And if you go back and watch the second half of the season, you will see Diggs still capable of beating the defenders, but between being used differently, the change at OC, and Allens injury, it just really impacted everything. And I think we saw Diggs struggle with that a little bit too where we saw a few more drops because he just wasn't in the same rhythm as before and maybe was looking upfield for YAC more before the ball got there and just didn't bring in some balls. NOT UPSET BECAUSE THEY SHOULD GO BPA - Anyone who thinks its WR or nothing at 28 would make a terrible GM. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES should they ever lock into ONE position and take a LESSER prospect over more talented players. This team has a lot of needs, and WR isn't even the top need. It is maybe the top priority, but not our biggest hole in a draft that is both rich and deep at WR. Lets be clean, I also WANT a WR like many others in the first, but once the big 3 are gone, if there is a run on WR's the last thing I want them doing is reaching for a 2nd round WR over say one of the better prospects in the draft at another position. Here is the reality...After the big 3, it is possible only Thomas has a first round grade on Beanes board, maybe Mitchell too although he has some question marks about why his stats don't match his elite traits. So I think he could move up for Thomas (maybe Mitchell), but if both are gone, I think Beane might either take another position or move back some and target someone like Coleman or McConkey while picking up an extra 3rd or something. The best thing to happen to Beane and the Bills was Worthy running a 4.22 and moving his potential draft slot from the 2nd round into maybe the first round. No way Beane is looking at this guy for Buffalo, so hopefully he helps push Thomas down closer to us to strike and go up and get, especially now that we just got awarded a 4th round comp pick adding yet another pick to our arsenal to help move around the draft.

The reason he is barely talked about here is because there is almost no chance he will be a Buffalo Bill. Ridley will be the highest paid WR in Free Agency as he is the top WR by a decent margin left on the market with the other guys staying put. And because of that, he is going to get over paid quite a bit. Good WR, but he is gonna get paid above his level because he hit the lottery when all the other guys stayed with their teams and then the cap was much bigger than expected.

I think DJ Chark is more realistic than Mooney from a cost perspective. Outside the organization, the opinion on Diggs and him being a WR1 or not seems to be divided. But, if I had to bet money, I would bet that Beane and Coaches on the inside still do believe in Diggs as a WR1, at least for this next season. They have been pretty emphatic about that belief too and Beane is not someone I have known to say things he doesn't believe. While I would be fine adding Mooney, like I mention above, I just think he is going to cost more than I think Beane will want to pay. With a lot of the top tier WR's guys off the market now it is going to boost his value in FA and I think he is a safe bet to get double digits like $10M - $14M per, especially since he has that one 80+ catch season on his resume while being saddled with bad QB play his whole career. Someone is gonna overpay based on believing he can consistently be that 70-90 catch guy in a better situation. I think someone like Curtis Samuel, DJ Chark, maybe Noah Brown (depends on what his market is as he could also surprise on what he gets) is probably more realistic targets. Could be wrong, maybe the cap room from the higher than expected cap sways him to spend a little more in FA at say WR, but I just think Beane is seeing all those picks in the draft and knowing he can infuse some talent and youth there at WR and maybe spends more on filling some of the other holes on D which right now is kind of like swiss cheese it has so many holes and lacks depth. On offense you still got Diggs, Shakir, Kincaid, and Knox plus Cook. So rookies don't need to relied on as heavy as say rookies that would need to start right away on defense. So I just think Beane is gonna focus more on defense with what cap space we have to try and keep from having to rely on too many rookie starters this season.

Not sure what all the confusion is, seems pretty clear there is an extension in bound, and was mostly expected to be part of the plan to get under the cap.

I think some of you need to come to the realization there is almost no chance Beane trades for a WR. Not only do they cost more, but he isn’t likely giving up assets in one of the richest WR drafts in NFL history where we have 11 picks for a more expensive vet.

Thank god the “trade for Jeudy” stuff can stop. Why anyone wanted to trade for a WR with lazy routes, bad hands, weak mental game, and doesn’t block was beyond me. Classic case of people still living in the past off his pre-draft hype and not accepting he didn’t live up to it in the NFL and is nothing more than a mediocre WR. I was also 100% confident there was 0% chance Beane would foolishly trade for this guy.

Worthy should be no where near our board for a trade up, or even at 28. Do people realize he is 6'1 but only weighs 164 pounds? What is going to happen to him when its snowing in Buffalo in the post season? He cant block, he isn't physical, and his frame is going to have a hard time holding up to 17 game seasons. There are literally guys who are big, with WR1 traits all running low 4.4 or sub 4.4 forty times...we need one of them, not a skinny guy who might get blown off his routes by the wind in Buffalo lol. Nothing against Worhty, he makes a lot of sense for a team like Dallas. But if we trade up for someone, it better be a top end WR1 type prospect. Worthy doesn't have the frame for that kind of volume and work on all 3 levels of the defense. He is better suited for a dome team like Dallas opposite a legit WR1 IMHO.

You have guys on your list not available. And you have guys on your list that the Bills should have absolutely no interest in what so ever. Pass on this one for me.

Thats not fully accurate though because you only present one side of the equation. Yes they can do "things" if there is a player they want to sign, but often those "things" are at the expense of filling other holes, or even creating more holes by losing other players or pushing something down the line the eventually means losing other players. That is IMO the biggest disconnect I think some have with the "cap isn't real" mentality...they see a team go get someone they want while in cap hell and don't pay attention to the 6 guys the team just lost as well to do that. The cap is very real, it will impact the team without question. It can be massaged to for short term flexibility, but at some point the bill comes due, so it is not without risk or impact. Lucky for us, we do have a GM who is very cap smart in how he structures contracts and manages that cap.

All these cold responses I think are missing the point. I expected all of these moves, I felt they all needed to happen, so no surprise here from me and no disagreement with any of the moves. But that that still doesn't mean its not sad to see the door close on their careers here, especially given how important they were to the team and locker room. So I don't know...maybe save the harsh "good" to see them go comments for another thread. Cuz I think the sentiment here is that while its the right move, its a bit of a bummer these guys time in Buffalo is done overall as they were huge parts of the team and community for long periods of time. Talking about several fan favorites too. I don't really see the point to celebrate or mock their departure...myself, I find myself just appreciating their time here and wishing them well where ever they go or do next.

Wow, didn't expect this after the Bates trade. I had expected it before the Bates trade just because his contract was one of the most obvious to cut. This is supposed to be a great draft for OL too, not sure what the C depth looks like, haven't had time to dive too much into it as I have spent what little I have had on the WR's. So wonder if they are going to look at drafting a C as well somewhere in this draft.

No. No. No. Sutton is gonna cost too much and Jeudy is a trash can. People need to let go of this pre-draft hype on Jeudy, he did not pan out and he is not ever going to be the player people thought he was because he just isn't that good. I mean has anyone watched him play? Wanting Jeudy is like wanting more of the worst parts of Gabe Davis. Lack of concentration, lazy routes, dropped passes, struggles to get open. Calling it now: Bills will not trade for Sutton or Jeudy - because Beane isn't bad at his job. This is one of the best drafts I can think of in terms of top end talent and depth at the WR position. This is the year to be stacked with picks and looking for WR's, and Beane is gonna pounce there. We likely add some value vet guys in FA too, but he isn't giving up picks in a WR rich draft for costly vets or retreads.

I was pretty confident he would be back once the higher than expected cap numbers came out. Couldn't see them getting rid of Douglas after what we paid to get him and also knowing that several secondary players were gone or likely to be gone in Hyde, Poyer, and Tre...2 of which are now officially gone (at least for now) and Tre still is a cap casualty candidate and still has question marks about what he will be like if he does stick after a 2nd serious leg injury. So stoked to see it looks like Douglas is here again at least this year given he was easily our best secondary player once he arrived.
